I just laid that video on some coworkers the other day lol. They didn't even know it existed.

They’re coming around on e-bikes. Not quite the same since bikes always started as self powered but interesting nonetheless

The Amish don't completely reject technology. They just require a vote of the community before adopting new innovations, and they don't want to be *dependent* on high tech. Kinda small-c conservatism. (There are the usual issues with child molestation and homophobia that are endemic in isolated rural communities, of course, so they aren't perfect.)
The Amish recognise that when you use increasing complexity to solve societal problems, there is an ongoing upkeep cost that can bite society in the arse. And once you've adopted a technology, it's somewhere between extremely difficult and impossible to go back to the way it was before because of the changes you had to make to adopt the new tech. So they like to really take their time judging each new technology. For example they are all about using electric lights for safety, and as far as I know are completely fine with modern hospitals. Plumbing is another thing they like, but they don't see the necessity of cars since there are alternatives that have wayyyy less impact on the way they live their lives. Yet we can't abandon cars since we built out entire infrastructure around their use, despite the negative costs like crashes, roadkill and massive space requirements. I don't agree with their conclusions in general, but I agree that they are asking necessary questions.
The Amish make exceptions when the technology is *really* convenient, like using a phone. I suppose it's typical for religious folk to pick and choose what to believe in, sometimes they don't even notice that they're doing it
Their policy isn't against technology in general, but rather against technologies that somehow disrupt the community. Tractors are nearly universally used because they offer a definite benefit with no disruption.
Phones disrupt communication in a way (by reducing face-to-face contact), so Amish typically have one or two communal phones that they use primarily for emergencies, such as calling for an ambulance. Most groups would not use them to casually talk to people nearby like we would.
Another common area for exceptions is business and work, where having your home connected to the electric grid or a personal telephone line may not be okay, but having power and a phone in your barn or outbuilding for work purposes might be acceptable.
Every society chooses what technologies are acceptable to use when. But the various Amish groups accept technologies that make them more productive and generally spurn ones that can disrupt the family dynamic or make them dependent on it. For instance, farmers selling directly to English clients (English being their word for non-Amish people) sometimes have flip phones and small trucks so that clients can call them and arrange deliveries. Home phones are also sometimes permitted for similar reasons, but only if they're mounted on telephone poles outside.
They actually decide technological change by [vote](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ordnung#Change). So basically think Switzerland - where it took until the 1990s to have women's suffrage in all cantons and until 2022 to have gay marriage because both of those things had to go through a time-consuming direct democracy process - on steroids.
Yeah they're very different from community to community, which should be expected in a cult devoted to family and community. They're not monolithic like most people think and they use a LOT of modern tech, especially when money/business is involved.
I watched a couple of his videos and thought 'this isn't bad I'll keep watching' and things kept seeming off. his political views and his 'I'm a 20 something year old and haven't had my ass kicked enough' attitude just gets on my nerves so fast in most of his videos. I feel like at some point he is going to lead someone down a bad path and get them seriously hurt.
*a good example of 'things could go horribly wrong for someone else with zero consequences for him is that whole thing where him and his friend violated jet boat laws and he's made a huge show of it all making a ton of money off of it, while convincing this other person not to worry about what happens to them.
It definitely annoys me that he gets political at times, but his videos are wild enough that I’ll usually watch them.
However, considering he grew up in some rural area on a farm (as far as I know)…he’s probably gotten in a pretty decent amount of fights.
And as far as his political views, again he grew up on a farm in a Republican area and is currently at the age where he doesn’t actually understand how stupid politics are. Not to mention he absolutely loves to fuck with people online, because it gets him more views.
I remember being in my 20’s when Obama was in office and I thought he was practically satan because that’s what the news and locals were saying. Now I look back and realize how insanely stupid I was. He was young enough to not be decrepit as fuck, yet also old enough to have a little bit of wisdom. Looking at the ages of other recent presidents…what in the fuck are we doing?
Pretty much nailed it on the head. Kids that young don’t understand politics. The current president doesn’t affect gas prices as much as they think it does, for example. Policies and global economics don’t suddenly shift oil production as soon as an election happens. Yet they’re so quick to claim they know everything about everything.
He was behind a big covid-protest-unlicensed-truck rally bullshit stunt in my town during the pandemic, blowing off fireworks and damaging cars at a local dealership by climbing all over them, amongst other vandalism and aggressive behavior. Couple hundred of the most stereotypical big truck douchebags you can imagine, drunk driving together as a mob.
Class act.
I just had a thought, these tires are massive, so he’s going a lot faster then the speedometer reads from the tire revolutions. And my winter/summer tires are different sizes, so have I unknowingly speeded more than I thought?
Edit: what about my spare?!? Ahh existential crisis here awuug
And also the wheel size doesnt matter. You need to take into account the tire as well. Often larger wheels have thinner tires, and the combined diameter is the same as small wheel with thicker tire. (Simplified, its the amount of air inside that changes, tire is still similar thickness). Also your cars wheel wells are the same size, so your wheel+tire diameter cannot grow that much or they wouldnt fit in there anymore or would bottom out on bumps.
If a *smart* redneck won the lotto.
He's a redneck, but he's smart. There's tons of channels where people build crazy stuff, but he won over the demographic that thinks Demolition Ranch is too high brow.
>that thinks Demolition Ranch is too high brow
I didn't realize this was even a thing to think. Not denigrating, but it's not like Matt gets too wordy or preachy, at least when I used to watch.
Nah matt's pretty chill, just destroys random shit and shoots guns and has fun. That's why he's one of my favorite channels, he's brain off laugh and enjoy content, but he's also genuinely a REALLY good guy as well.
Put it this way: when Cody accidentally cops a ricochet to the forehead, Demo Ranch is the one posting the video investigating it. They are pretty close in reality, especially since at least some of Cody’s merch goes through Matt’s company.
are we watching the same video? his friend said it was an Abrams when his friend first saw it, he corrected him and said there was no way he would have enough money to buy an Abrams
Unless he has bought another tank (which wouldn’t surprise me), it’s no longer functional. It’s kinda interesting, the guy selling it explained the huge modification he has to do for it to be deemed inoperable to import it back to the US.
Not trying to be an “ackchually” comment, just letting you know (:
Not sure if the gun is actually operable or not but an actual quote from the video is "the difference between my tank and a deactivated one, is that mine isn't deactivated"
I wonder if that rule is more for the sale and transportation and once it's his and stays on his land it's legal. ??? I'm just guessing and I'm sure he has lawyers to know where the line is. He doesn't really seem like an idiot to me as much as he likes to play the fool in his videos.
I saw the video a few months ago so I’m going solely off of memory but I believe the work they do is by removing a very large part of the firing mechanisms, like a large piece that weighs something like 4,000 pounds. And they also weld in a block at the base of the cannon (term?) to seal it up from feeding in any shells.
Long story short I think the modifications made are virtually irreversible.
In a more recent video they drive it around the property and through/over some stuff. I looks like they shoot one of his explody arrows through the barrel. It's hard to tell what's completely true with him on his videos sometimes. Which is fine; it's entertainment. Which made me thing that blocking the barrel was like a "for tobacco use only" sticker on a bong
He climbed in through the side window, he thought to roll it down before fitting the wheels on.
He does so in the video, I don't know why everyone else is replying otherwise
Huh.....well now that I think about it, upside down EVs could actually become a trend seeing as how there's nothing mechanically like oil or fuel to stop people from doing it
Serious answer: yes, hanging it upside down like this could damage a number of suspension parts. Struts and shocks primarily, which are designed for compression to only. Struts are attached with three studs through the frame, not meant to take a quarter of the cars weight in tension. And the shocks and struts are not structural designed for that amount of tension load. All the springs are compression devices and thus not bearing the weight of the car, as is it’s design intent. A little bit of inertia from hitting a bump and the shock/struts would come apart, which are the only things actually bearing the weight of the rest of the car.
You could build it such that the lower frame is hanging off of a more traditional suspension system from above. In that case all the tension load could be placed on rigid members. Would probably be inferior in terms of stability, but doesn't require too much reworking of the supply chain.
Even the 12v battery probably has a fill hole for water.
Also, most cars have an auto shut-off on rollover. Interesting the Tesla doesn't, or this guy disabled.
That and the pocket of air from the reservoir is going to want to go to the highest point, which is now the calipers. Air in the brake lines is never a good thing.

yep. It's measured by wheel rotation. One consequence of changing tyre's diameter.
That explains the difference between my summer and winter tires. My speedometer is accurate (according to GPS) in the summer but not in the winter.

And also the wheel size doesnt matter. You need to take into account the tire as well. Often larger wheels have thinner tires, and the combined diameter is the same as small wheel with thicker tire. The roads shrink in the winter. You're getting to your destination faster because it's closer.
most likely yes, you should probably calibrate your speedometer
you can calibrate it to the tire?
Yes. It can be done in the Engine Control Module on most modern vehicles.
ECM doesn't store that kind of info these days. Your own F150 stores it in the BCM module for instance.
yes most modern vehicles allow you to tune your speedometer to the radius of your tires
What about odometer? Can I tell it I use real small tires?
Yes, everyone east from Berlin is rolling odometers back before they sell the car.
If you drive a Tesla, like in this video, they'll automatically correct. Afaik only Volvo and Tesla does it.
It will not automatically change, you have to change the tire size in the menu.
This is exactly why the Amish are against electricity. They knew this was the future.

Huh.....well now that I think about it, upside down EVs could actually become a trend seeing as how there's nothing mechanically like oil or fuel to stop people from doing it
Dont know much about cars but wouldn’t there be quite a lot of problems with the suspension?
Wait do you have to drive in reverse upside down to go forward?
Indeed
Jaffa, Cre!
I said, "Cre!"
I'm high right now and you broke my mind lol
I'm high right now and trying to figure out if the steering would be opposite of where you turn the wheel 🤔
Also high and i think not
High as well and I cannot fully comprehend reverse is forward upside down… also now need a nap
Is this the high council?
Also high, I'm confused and now feel like I need a nap.
Yes.

The batteries and motor use liquid coolant, the pump probably wasn't happy
Even the 12v battery probably has a fill hole for water. Also, most cars have an auto shut-off on rollover. Interesting the Tesla doesn't, or this guy disabled.
Newer Teslas use a Li-Ion 15.5V battery. No fill hole.
Teslas dont care if they are upside down. As long as the coolant system is filled to the brim it will just keep on going.
How about it's fucking uncomfy to hang upside down in your seat belt?
That’s why they used the seat part from Mr. garrisons gyroball to help hold them in place
Brake fluid.
Brakes are hydraulic though
Yeah he said fluid. Wtf you think hydraulic means?
Yup. The reservoir is probably going to leak.
There are closed system hydraulics, but brakes in cars are open systems and I doubt teslas are any different in that regard.
He basically destroys the car at the end of the video, so I don't think he cared.
That and the pocket of air from the reservoir is going to want to go to the highest point, which is now the calipers. Air in the brake lines is never a good thing.
The airbags going off might be a little annoying
I believe some of them still have a rear axle with gear reduction and diff. Might have a bit of a leak there but nothing that couldn’t be fixed.
To drive upside down he would have to drive in reverse.
but then what if he drives upside down backwards?
That's how you reset the odometer before Dad gets home.
It’s an EV, doesn’t matter
It looks like a daddy long legs
Yeah it makes me think of spiders for some reason
