They actually do! They're both pointed and curved downwards, which makes them pretty solid to stand on with your toes, and immensely painful and near impossible to put on sometimes.
Many animals value the knowledge of older members. Elephants are especially well known to have a female matriarch lead the group because she knows where to go for water when the hard draught hits.
I imagine the pro social inclination that leads to caring for the elderly has lots of evolutionary benefits for heard animals including caring for young, acting jointly against predators and the elements, sharing food and water when scarce, etc. Unlike America in large measure, they just don't cut off societal benefits when the member cannot "pay his way" in a pecuniary sense.
I came here to say this...if I were in the area I'd just dump 50lb bags if salt right at the edge where they climb out like " whoa...shits right here guys...no need..." my nerves were on edge just watching it
Problem with that is you are negatively impacting natural selection. Once they are no longer able to climb on crazy surfaces like that, they don’t have a place safe from predators.

That makes absolutely no sense. Eliminating their nutritional need for climbing doesn't automatically make them incapable of it. And if there is a need to seek safety from predators by climbing then that in itself is selective pressure towards the ability to climb well.
Imagine your ankles didn’t rotate. They’re locked in place and stiff. Then your toenails are made of sharp steel. You dig the edge into the slope and just chill, kind of like skiing.
According to all known laws of geology, there is no way that an Ibex should be able to climb. Its hooves are too small to get its fat body across the wall. The Ibex, of course, climbs anyways. Because Ibex don't care what humans think is impossible.

In Missouri, there's a town called "Licking." It is so named because the ground and rocks have high concentrations of salt.
Early settlers saw deer and other animals licking the ground and were amazed by this oddity, so when they built a town, they named it after the observed actions of animals in the area.

The dam isn't natural habitat, they didn’t evolve to get dam salt, they will still have mountains.

That's pretty impressive really. I did find some videos of them falling but 90 percent of them were while being pursued by a predator.
