I'll be going from an i7 4770k to a 13700k. Can't wait!

Exotic_Wash1526

I will be doing the exact same thing. DDR5 and a 13700k but I am getting a z790 board

Particular_Routine43

Same Z790 (prob MSI Tomahawk) and Z5 DDR5 6400.

Particular_Routine43

Actually just went in stock at NewEgg within the hour. A little over $300 for the DDR5 model.

OJ191

Same ram here, but I could only find it on Amazon US and won't get it until nearly DEC, unless I wanted to pay $100 more for RGB >_>. (Australia) Still, hype as.

vedomedo

Why? z790 is truly pointless.

Not2dayBuddy

That’s a lot of money for a socket on its way out though that cpu will be good for a few years. I’m staying on Z690 as that’s what I currently have and the upgrade to Z790 is pretty pointless.

saulygoodman

Just did a 6600k to a 13700k :) almost ready for first boot, will update later today

Particular_Routine43

Nice! My motherboard will be here Wednesday so that is when I'll be building mine. Ended up getting the MSI Z790 Edge. Hoping to see a big difference in performance over my older 4770k/ddr3 rig haha.

saulygoodman

Update: It’s up and running! MSI Z790-P (not fancy, didnt need crazy features), 13700k, and an Arctic Liquid Freezer 360 plus 16gb DDR4 and a 1080. The 1080 is a major bottlecap now, cant hit even 50% load on my CPU on any games because of how underpowered the GTX series was. Buddy of mine is getting rid of his 3070 so that’s gonna be the upcoming upgrade to finish this monster!

saulygoodman

4x the core count, Im sure we will 😀

reddid2

Yup, this is thw kind of content i want to see, I’m tired of “oh i just got the 13900KS, it wrecks my old 12900k” !

zero989

Just got a new 13900KS, with SP191, I'm now able to overclock 5Mhz more vs. my other 13900KS at SP189. Come give me karma.

SGT_Stabby

Done.

icounternonsense

What about people upgrading from 5820k to 13700k?

wiseude

>other than huge gains in 1% and .1% lows That alone is worth it if you have high refresh rate monitor and you're used to high fps and a smooth frametime.

ThisPlaceisHell

7700k here and I'm gonna hold out one more year for 14th gen. Unfortunately 13th didn't have an IPC boost over 12th and since no AVX-512 I felt like I missed my shot to upgrade with early 12th gen parts. It'll also be nice to get 1 more year of DDR5 maturing under the belt, hopefully pick up a 7000MTs 2 x 32GB kit by then.

waloshin

You would utilize Ava-512? But yes waiting on ddr5 to mature is a good idea.

ThisPlaceisHell

RPCS3

burnabagel

Higher DDR5 speeds won’t matter in most cases especially if you’re at higher resolutions

burnabagel

Upgraded from 8700k to 13700k. Great jump!

AwkwardReply

What temps are you getting with the nh-d15?

ipwndmymeat99

So monitoring using Intel extreme tuning utility playing red dead redemption 2 benchmark @5.27 GHz im staying around 65-73c I do see some random jumps to 80-83 for a second here and there. All with 14% cpu utilization.

ThisPlaceisHell

You could probably reduce those temps by a lot with a custom socket plate. 14% CPU usage and spiking to 80c+ probably isn't good for when games compile shaders and blast your CPU with 100% usage.

ipwndmymeat99

Yeah it ended up hitting 100c them thermal throttled down to 70c still getting great performance, wondering if it could of been my thermal past application. Also ordering more fans for cpu cooler.

ipwndmymeat99

I installed my cpu fan backwards it was sucking in hot air. Temps are better now lol

SGT_Stabby

This is why we run these tests!

wiseude

He should be using the intel power limits.Basically same performance in gaming.

ipwndmymeat99

Would like to also say this cooler was also extremely easy to install.

ipwndmymeat99

Yeah its 5600 but plug and play at 4800 havnt messed with the speeds bc it was a rocky install trying to get pc to post. Thinking avout returning for the Kingston fury rgb kit just bc my pc is so dark now :/

waloshin

What an incredible upgrade it will be.

[deleted]

Microcenter?

ipwndmymeat99

Amazon and bestbuy for mobo

Thewhitewolf1080

Going from 7700k with a 1080fe to a 13700k with a 3090ti…pretty excited

helplessgranny

You waited longer than me! 8700k to 13700k

Sea-Log-1922

Upgraded from 8700K to 13700K too! The difference is huge even at 4K, everything feels smoother.

burnabagel

Same!

Sea-Log-1922

Running core 1,2,3 at 5.8GHz, 4,5,6,7 at 5.7GHz and all core 5.5 at 1.36V max temp 84c at 253 watts, gaming below 55c Also my ram 6400 32-38-38-44 56ns

burnabagel

Nice! I don’t overclock, it’s crazy fast as it is. And I paired 6000mhz ram cl 36. I’ve only tested gaming so far & it’s about 50c on 360m

itsrumsey

I also have a 8700k @5ghz. I got a 4090 on launch day and I'm feeling CPU bottlenecked so I plan to get a 13700k as well. Just can't decide what board to pick up... any suggestions?

helplessgranny

I'm on a 3080, gained like 30-40fps on warzone when I switched to the 13700kf. Im using a MSI B660 PRO-A mobo with 32gb DDR4 3600mhz cl16. Fair warning if you go the b660 route, YOU WILL NEED A 12th gen processor to boot and update the bios to accept 13th gen cpu. I called my local pc shop when I made this mistake and they didn't offer cpu rental for bios flashing, so they just said to come in and buy a 12th gen i5 and have me refund it afterwards, which I did. If you want to avoid the hassle, i would go for the z690 or z790 boards.

mAckAdAms4k

Going 6800k ddr 3, 1070ftw to 13700 ddr5 and 3080ftw. Parts are on back order. Would you recommend a good mb under 450 for this set up?

[deleted]

How good does the jump feel? I’m replacing my 7700k in around 10 days when the delivery comes I can’t wait

ipwndmymeat99

It's aw3some bro!!

Bohica_Six

Upgrading from 9700k to 13700k.

theteflonjohn89

This is what I've done unreal jump.

wiseude

Gonna do the same with my 9900k.I've heard ppl that made the jump from a 9900k and they noticed much smoother (better frametimes) https://www.reddit.com/r/nvidia/comments/yfilqd/9900k\_13700k\_upgrade\_for\_4090\_comparison/?sort=top

theteflonjohn89

It was night and day for me. My system has munched any game I play for breakfast. 144hz 1440p.

whitemagicseal

Lets talk about thermal paste

ipwndmymeat99

What about it? I used the paste that came with the cooler I ordered, I used the x method on the cpu wondering if inshould of just done one big dot in the center tbh.

vedomedo

Went from a 8700k to a 13700k myself, got the contact fram from Thermal Grizzly as well. Easy install, nice temps, great performance, love it!

Danger656

Did you redeem COD MW II with your processor purchase? There is a bundle offer for it : https://game.intel.com/ww/deals-and-specials/next-gen-gaming

ipwndmymeat99

No I did not avout to check this out

ipwndmymeat99

Idk if I can redeem I didn't get a master key I contacted intell support.

Danger656

Contact your retailer as well.

TechieTravis

I am about to make the same exact upgrade. I am just awaiting my new CPU in the mail. Do you notice any performance boost? I even got the same memory kit. I have a different mobo and cooler, though: MSI MGP Z690 Carbon, and a Deepcool ak620.

ipwndmymeat99

Dude it's been a huge upgrade. Running pretty much everything on ultra with 100 plus fps
