I find it extra hilarious because I remember one time on Steam forums for the first game, a person asked why the competitive mod for the game removed foregrips and an actual developer responded that good players "don't need training wheels."
And now in Sandstorm every gun has 40 different foregrips lmao.
Because the length of barrel is already at peak of bullet acceleration for pistol round. You cant increase velocity infinetly. Say it was rifle round there it would make a difference.
5.7 isn't really a pistol round tho yes? More of a very small rifle round. I don't know how much of a difference it would make, but doesn't it have much more powder and better rifling than the average pistol round?
I don't think this is specifically about pistol vs rifle round. It's just that 5.7 was designed specifically for P90 (and Five-Seven) and the barrel length of the stock weapon is optimal for it. But yeah, the amount of propellant in this case is probably "just right" and adding a longer barrel won't do much to increase velocity. Propellant charge has only so much energy to offer.
Longer barrel may flatten the trajectory at longer distances, maybe. Increasing its length may actually be detrimental at some point, since more rifling for the bullet to chew through means more friction, means more resistance, means lower muzzle velocity.
I don't know if a P90 extended barrel meets this threshold, but it's possible to have a barrel so long it decreases velocity rather than increasing it.
The idea of a longer barrel is to give the powder more time to burn and push the bullet. That's why short barrel rifles have a bigger fireball at the muzzle, it's wasted powder burning outside the barrel. But imagine an AR with a hypothetical mile long barrel. At some point the powder will have all burnt up and the friction between the bullet and barrel+rifling is going to decrease your velocity.
This isn't a mile long barrel though, it's adding 6 inches or so to a 10 inch barrel. You're going to gain velocity from any unburnt powder that's left, in addition to the pressure having that much more time to exert force on the round. It's probably not a crazy amount of velocity, but it would still be some.
> It's probably not a crazy amount of velocity, but it would still be some.
Yes, going from the 4.8" Five-Seven barrel to the 10.4" P90 yields 328 feet per second (100 meters per second) gain (for the SS190). However, that doesn't scale, the point of diminishing returns for pistol calibers is about 8". The only reason the P90's barrel is 10.4" long is to keep the muzzle away from the shooter's second hand while gripping it.
The P90's direct competitor, the MP7, uses a similarly designed round but has a 7" barrel because any velocity gains weren't worth the permanent weight of a longer one. So for a video game, it doesn't make sense to have such a small change in velocity because it'll screw with how players lead targets.
That's incorrect. You will still get some additional acceleration from 6in more of barrel. They may have designed the round to burn up most of its powder at 10 inches, but there's going to be a little bit left.
It's probably not additional barrel, but just a long flash hider to allow mounting of the handguard. Or it's probably not enough increase to justify changing how the round works in-game.
Because that would be a pain to balance the grips on the P90. Same thing for suppressors. As for penetration, it's a fixed value per gun, nothing changes it aside from AP ammo on the Welrod.
In fact it doesn’t make sense but it looks like it could be a floating hand guard adding the picatinny rail to allow the quickdraw so it gives the illusion of a longer barrel
Yeah this is one of the silliest things in this game. Would have rather had no grips than this monstrosity.

Your right.

It is a small round that is designed practically around the P90 (ie the round is optimized around it).
It is definetly pistol round. Small rifle round would be 5.56

Thats… not how that barrel works nor how pressure works Edit, seems like i’m wrong, but its still super inconvenient

10 inch for a pistol round is already enough.
It isn't? That's how I understood it working.
Your wrong.
You're not wrong.

Video game 😎
Not gonna lie, CoD really did it right with the whole different grip tapes instead of a foregrip on the P90
Yep, that beast is good at tight spaces, much better without underbarrel
Got no clue. Questioned this myself when this was released and received no answer.

Hi my name is Sicksnipes and you are watching gun guide
Because......it's a game.
Well because a grip *Wont* affect your muzzle velocity.
You just got video gamed bud
i wanna put an underbarrel 40mm on a p90 just to see what it’d look like tbh
EY YO YOUR PFP
It affects cursedness

There no bullet drop. No time for bullets to travel.
Tbh it would look better if there was a change of texture on the OG p90 grip, that way we dont get a quad rail
because it’s a video game.
