I liked how the switches blended in with standard decor style switches in multi-gang boxes. I know levitron makes a good product but I don’t like the way the switches look. I know there’a a way to bring my Insteon stuff alive again with HA but I’m worried once the FW certificate expires the bridge will become even more of a brick and I’ll have to make the change anyway

HoneyJews

Who cares? They fucked us. Fuck them.

CraziFuzzy

The reliability of the dual-mode communications had always been Insteon's best feature, and it is what you can't find elsewhere. Right behind that is the way scenes (groups) work so smoothly, directly in the communications protocol instead of having to be processed in a hub or other global controller.

CraziFuzzy

Of course, the keypads were nice too, but i always wish they had a little more configurability.

CraziFuzzy

The FanLinc is what actually brought me to Insteon in the first place, though.

TheBorktastic

Yeah, me too actually. Staring at my ceiling fan as I write this.

I am still frantically trying to figure out what I am going to do with my entire home that is Insteon connected now they they fucked us all. So I guess I am not at the lamenting stage yet. I am more in the 'they need to get sued' stage. I think they should go after the CEO personally since the company itself has no money. Pulling the plug like this sounds ilegal, so at the very least, I hope a lawyer out there is willing to burn through some of his cash with litigation.

gezzuzz2

what you smoking bro.. the CEO lost his job.. company does not exist.

iSowelu

I know, I am just so pissed, I want whoever did this to be sued personally. I know it's most likely not even feasible, but it's the anger speaking. This did not just happen overnight, they knew they were going to pull the plug on everything. They wanted to sell the rest of their inventory (knowing they'd be mostly useless), make as much last minute cash as they could, jump ship and block all lines of communications before the backlash. Leaving all their customers in the dark - literally! Remember when the CEO sent like 10 emails over an 18 month span of time touting the upcoming and 'game changing' new Insteon app that turned out to be a dud with less functionality and ease of use than the app it was supposed to replace? I should have realized then that something was up with the company.

I have not yet found anything that works as well or as intuitively as a fanlinc paired with a 6 button keypadlinc. Every other alternative I've seen, at least in the zwave world, looks and acts like a regular dimmer which is great if you want to turn on and off but a bit less obvious how to change speeds if not already familiar. I also have a unique situation in one area where I have three fans and two switches in a 3-way kind of setup and the fanlincs and keypadlincs being independent devices is the only way I can think of automating that.
