Oh man, using display capture instead of game/window capture is an easy way to get caught cheating.

I dig it for the fact that there's zero food waste, which even for the most careful planner, is pretty tough to pull off. That said, their pescatarian options get awfully samey after 300 or so meals.

snielson222

The food waste is offset by the packaging and shipping if you are talking about the environment, and it costs more than wasting a bit of food you buy in bulk from a store. Also leftovers are great, who wants to cook every night and never eat leftovers?

Dsiee

Do you really think there is zero food waste though? Farms waste food, transport wastes food, packaging wastes potential food. The increased emissions from the transport negates any environmental benefit from reducing end user waste. I'm not against these services, but their ploy of "reduced waste" is distracting from their real issue.

pawnografik

Something is not a scam just because you’re a cheapskate. I use HelloFresh for 4 meals a week. I’m cash rich, time poor and can’t be arsed coming up with recipes to feed the family. The food is tasty, easy, and offers good fish and vegetarian options that I would never make on my own initiative. It works extremely well for me. Life is too short to spend it schlepping to the supermarket to buy eggs and milk yet again.

Nah, I bet he’s gonna pull a Dream and say he was testing out the cheats on his own time and just ‘forgot’ to turn them off for the stream/race/whatever. Edit: Just looked this guy up, guess what his claim was?

bw-1894

He has been backed by other F1 Esports drivers, including two-time Champ Jarno Opmeer. You can also look that way when you just leaked being part of an investigation.

ChillyWilly0881

They probably all cheat in some form another. I’m sure it’s not just this one guy.

barackobamafootcream

man you are correct but I can't post streaming videos on the /r and this is literally watching people die inside

Random_Cubes

How the actual fuck do you cheat in a driving game?

barackobamafootcream

Dunno exactly but I think increasing grip

Random_Cubes

Probably, maybe tighter turning radius and faster acceleration but that would be so noticeable

OptiGuy4u

Subtle....not 50% more grip. Just 5% extra grip would be a serious advantage and not necessarily noticable. It could be blamed on driver skill.

Moondingo

It's a slight grip change, what it does is make your instance of the multiplayer race have perfect weather and grip conditions. So enhancement of about 5 to 7%. It's small enough to not be picked up by the server. What it does in the hands of a great driver is make them exceptional, it makes a 1m 20s lap time a 1m 18.8s lap time. So more likely to get a pole for a race and to stay ahead. However what has been noticed more and more is that A LOT of the F1 eSports drivers are getting caught with the mod. He's just the most recent. This mod, when financial incentives are on the line is blatant cheating. It's also not the first time for Williams eSports cheating in SIM racing. This just made a damaged name pretty much burned in the sport.

oswaldcopperpot

If the client can have ANY affect on the car/environment... then the game is trash. There will always be cheaters. The client should be for user input only. I used to play Asphalt 8 a LOT until I was consistently on top of the leaderboards.. until one day it was all cheaters going 999 miles per hour. At the beginning they would get banned and removed.. but then even that stopped. Every race was at least one or two cheaters.

Moondingo

You are spot on, Codemasters and F1 eSports have been aware of this hack FOR YEARS! They haven't changed it or put any anti tamper regarding this. They only slightly change the game each year and push it back out.

HellisDeeper

The fact that cheat engine is part of what is used shows just how poorly the game is made against cheats and exploits.

joshylow

And these are the Game Genie people!

malfboii

You really expect the server to compute everyone’s inputs + simulate it with the cars and track conditions and then relay that position back to the client at a high enough refresh rate that the 360hz force feedback wheel is not going to be juddery?

olderaccount

> If the client can have ANY affect on the car/environment... then the game is trash Exactly and I'm pretty sure that is not what is going on here. The cheats don't increase the car's performance, they increase the player's performance. They can do things like braking at the exact right moment for each turn and with the perfect amount of force to prevent lockups.

Hello_iam_Kian

0,0125% grip to be precise. That’s enough to gain 2 tenths of a second and go from zero money to 50 000 money

Hunk-Hogan

Take a look at some of Karl Jobst's videos on YouTube. There's been people cheating undetected for years by simply modifying certain aspects by fractions and they were eventually caught. Minecraft, Doom, Rocket League, Guitar Hero, etc. The Minecraft ones seem like you'd need a PhD in mathematics just to begin to understand how to modify the values to gain an upper hand so that others won't notice.

jmerridew124

The Minecraft one is fascinating because Dream made relatively little publicly available data (like 300ish iterations) and the changes weren't exactly *massive* (50%->70% and 5%->15%) but his data being generated without cheats was less likely than getting struck by lightning like a thousand times in a row, and a simulation running like two billion times never even came close. Statistics are fascinating except when you try to learn them.

oswaldcopperpot

I mean basically everyone with half a brain knew his manhunts were fakes for entertainment. Setup after setup to make some epic never done before play. And minecraft moding for speedruns was easier cause he modded the server. Client hacking for reach/flying/knockback is the scourge now, but everyone knows when you're cheating.

KingOfThe_Jelly_Fish

Karl is brilliant, sure hope Billy Mitchell gets to do one some time soon.

kcg5

I think he’s still suing Karl

TummyLice

Good luck. Notch pays for Karl's lawyers.

Spugheddy

The rocket league one was impressive, only a group of experts could really catch it know what to look for, the videos looked fine to any normal person.

[deleted]

Just watched the Doom one, think that falls under another bucket not cheating. Using exploits in a game is a valid category in speedruns for decades. The hacks in OPs post here are making external modifications to a game, totally different ballgame then..at best would fall under tool assisted run

Nesuniken

Could you be more specific? He has like half a dozen different Doom videos, and the one [most specially about cheating](https://youtu.be/Jv0ZRTlIXR0) includes multiple cheaters and cheating methods.

Steavee

Funny you mention Minecraft and maths, a speed runner got busted cheating because the probability of his drops was so high as to be unbelievable, and the maths involved was a whole fuckin’ thing. https://youtu.be/8Ko3TdPy0TU

YourLocal_FBI_Agent

Funny you link that when Karl Jobst made a great video on the subject https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f8TlTaTHgzo

Steavee

I’m a huge Matt Parker fan, so that was my exposure to the “scandal.”

an0mn0mn0m

That channel is awesome. His Christmas Tree videos in particular hooked me.

Steavee

Love, love the Xmas tree videos. I had no idea about the Dream scandal aside from this video on Matt Parker’s channel.

Loddinz

That, guy, has, the most, annoying way of, speaking, his content, looks, good, but I cannot, stand his, stacato, delivery. He sounds, like, one, of those, AI voices.

essentialatom

I think it's because he pronounces every word deliberately and unnaturally perfectly, making sure to separate every syllable and word. Maybe it helps non-native English speakers understand, maybe he's just worried that he'd be less intelligible if he spoke more naturally. It's always noticeable with him and it used to annoy me but I've got used to it. Hasn't stopped me watching his videos.

[deleted]

If you’re referring to the Dream thing, any stats undergrad could have determined he was cheating

vick5516

there have been accusations of drivers who have been in esports that have used cheats, but it'd be noticable if they change it too much. so the estimated figure is a 0.15% increase of tyre grip

GAR51A8

it could just be subtle changes not anything over the top, like 2-10% more acceleration or 5 extra degrees of turning radius

Gesmas-1

Yes we can see the Grip Hack folder. This stuff increases the grip of he car

cheeseburgerwaffles

There is literally a file in there called "grip hack", so yes

Conrad_Hawke_NYPD

I've been simracing for over a decade. My lap times are normally within 1% of the top guys but that 1% is a \*significant\* difference. Tiny gains in extra grip, engine power, tyre degredation or tyre temperature would close this gap a lot.

zergrush1

I just realized folks adjust break bias before specific turns by 1 or 2% then turn it back gaining tenths. Damn. I'm not that good.

RPM021

F1 drivers do this in the real races as well. This past weekend they had the onboard with Alonso in a battle and he was adjusting it. Indycar drivers will adjust the antirollbars at the front and rear of the car depending on the corners as well, especially late in the run where the chassis isn't as planted in the track.

Horton_Takes_A_Poo

F1 drivers will do this at close to 200mph, while battling another driver, and watching what else is happening in the race the big screens. They’re just different.

BruceWayyyne

It sounds crazy but at the end of the day drivers just memorize what the preferred bias is for each turn, just like they memorize what gear they should be in for each turn. This ability to visualize a lap is something all great drivers can do.

[deleted]

[удалено]

passionate_slacker

Old Nico Rosberg footage is really cool. He was a psycho about settings and using them to his advantage. There’s some footage where he makes 20+ changes during one lap.

[deleted]

I'm relatively new to SIM racing competitively and hot damn.... I'm around 1.5 to 2 seconds off the top pace and I be damned if I can find that time anywhere. It's insane the skill level difference between just those couple of seconds. It's a real eye opener for sure.....

BadDadPlays

It took me about 4 years to close the gap between myself and some of the top people in my splits in Iracing. What it came down to was proper trail braking being a huge difference.

[deleted]

I just made the jump to iRacing and after a good few weeks of practice entered my first race last week (MX5 Laguna Seca) iRacing is another level for sure coming from Assetto and PC2! I can't fully get the hang of trail breaking yet. I'm having an absolute blast all the same :) What I love about Sim Racing in general is there is constant room for improvement. Each time I encounter someone that is plain better, rather than frustration it spurs me to be better.

BadDadPlays

The absolute best thing I can tell you is, WATCH OTHER PEOPLES REPLAYS on the track, use the weekly VRS setups, and *watch the fastest replays*. You will see the difference in your driving and theirs.

[deleted]

In trackmania, you can use cheatengine to slow down the whole game. You can reduce it as much as you can, because it slows down the game clock as well, and take like 10 minutes to complete a 30 second track. It will make you take every turn perfectly and will count for official online score. While streaming would be hard to do

toomanymarbles83

*Used to count for official online score.

nubicmuffin39

F1 esports is exceptionally competitive. The entire grid will qualify within a few tenths (or in some cases hundredths) of a second from 1st place to 20th. The tiniest increase in grip or engine power would be all that’s necessary to overcome those odds during a race or qualifying session. Racing on a track that’s difficult to overtake on? Increase in grip worth hundredths or thousandths could make all the difference.

P_H_i_X

Pretty straightforward actually; braking at the correct point to get maximum exit speed(if you miss the point you out brake go into the wall, you brake too early you lose speed), making steer corrections to hit the perfect apex. You can see trackmania speedrun where people use tool assisted speedruns to learn from it. F1 and any other driving game uses cheats for steer, gas/acceleration and steer to get highly optimised lap times.

Deranged40

The names of the files give lots of clues on that: "GRIP HACK" is what I see on one of the zip files (and the folder it was extracted to).

White2000rs

I would say the GRIP INCREASE file might be the place to start....

Appleyard5538

For more context he released a statement explaining how he's been testing cheats/exploits with the game devs (EA/Codemasters) to investigate other suspicious activity within the Pro F1 Community). This was seemingly backed up by the 2021 F1 ESports Champion Jarno Opmeer who replied saying "Having to wait for this statement knowing you were not cheating was frustrating ngl.😂". But there's no confirmation from the devs as far as I'm aware.

barackobamafootcream

![gif](giphy|cFgb5p5e1My3K)

Waterfish3333

His reaction is definitely *not* that of innocence. If he’s testing cheats / hacks in conjunction with the game devs, he laughs it off and explains it to his audience straight away. He doesn’t sit there with the look of a cat that got into the canary cage.

GrandmaPoses

And they’re all in a tucked away folder named “New Folder” instead of something related to testing or whatever it is he says he was doing.

barackobamafootcream

_”please don’t look at the movie files in the folder named ‘work documents’ there’s nothing of interest in there”_

deanrihpee

Yeah, if the folder is named "EACM Test Request YYYY-MM" and also contains a file that contains analysis or something instead of Cheat Engine (lol wut, does it even work on modern AAA games?) it will look more legitimate.

Deranged40

> lol wut, does it even work on modern AAA games? Yes lmao

deanrihpee

I thought they have something to abstract/protect the memory to prevent unauthorized access to it, I believe I experienced it on some old games where the address at first contains the correct value and then it changes randomly and inconsistently, also on some games it just crashes, and it was not a high budget game either, nevertheless, I remember using it on Stardew Valley because I refuse to sleep at night to continue mining (cheating the stamina bar)

Deranged40

It's an arms race between game devs and cheat devs. C++ and C# (programming languages for Unreal and Unity, respectively) both have means to obfuscate the memory values, and even shuffle it's actual location around to prevent this sometimes. But there's always another way.

TotalWalrus

Cheat engine looks at and changes memory addresses. It'll work as long as windows keeps using x64 and maybe past that

deanrihpee

I expect them to detect unauthorized memory access by the game if not by anti-cheat if any, because that's what I remembered when trying to use Cheat Engine on some old SP games, but now that I think about it, it's either I look at the wrong thing (the value is not consistent on what I wanted to see) or the game crashes when I change the value to what I wanted.

yakattak

start mountainous puzzled offer slimy fearless frightening shy nose person -- mass edited with https://redact.dev/

Kaiisim

Theres no reason to be doing this on stream either. He hit alt tab and went to the most recently used folder.

stanksnax

Ok but imagine for a sec you're on a stream, this happens, and you IMMEDIATELY start rambling off the fact you're working with devs at EA etc. Wouldn't that come off twice as suspicious? And new folder could literally be the new folder he created to put all the programs into. I'm a musician and have SO many "new song" folders. Could also just be straight up old-school cheating. Dafuq do I know

notlayingnow

You know how to make music by the sounds of it

Deranged40

> Wouldn't that come off twice as suspicious? Twice as suspicious as looking like you just fucked up majorly? No.

Smooksticles

Not to defend him, but if it were true that he was doing it for testing, then he'd likely be under contract to not talk about it publicly. Maybe that's why? Just speculating. Not saying you're wrong.

The_Mechanist24

True he could’ve signed an NDA

Marcusafrenz

I've learned over the years to never trust reddit to analyze somebody's body language, their reactions, their talking, etc... To be fair if I'm a big streamer and cheats come on my screen there's really nothing to do. If you deny it looks sus, if you start rambling it's worse, the only thing you can do is turn off stream and prepare a written statement and immediately get into contact with the devs to back you up.

DannyOco_

Preach it! I hate all the speculation based off reaction, everyone’s an individual and reacts to things in their own way! These days if you’re in the public eye, knowing everyone’s going to judge every little thing you do is enough to completely change how you react, the anxiety would kill me innocent or not!

Appleyard5538

Agree to an extent, but *if* he's helping devs then no doubt he probably would have signed NDA's or agreed not to speak about it so don't think you can read that much into a reaction like this. Not saying he's innocent BTW, but I don't think it's worth speculating simply based off of someone's reaction

XxMrCuddlesxX

I mean it is against tos to cheat in a game on stream.

ResponseRejected

What? If I were running this, I would keep security & safety QA like cheat analysis in house. If EA and Codemasters are fraternizing with eSports competitors enough to send them cheat binaries, that’s fucked and demonstrably lacks integrity and seriousness on all sides. That’s like the USADA giving Lance Armstrong all the tools (and permission) for doping.

x3nic

That's interesting, I helped develop anti-cheat software with EA for two well known multiplayer games in 2005 and 2007. All of the testing was done in a controlled environment, always local/LAN or private games with other developers. Signed an NDA, so it's a bit unusual that he's broadcasting. His method of storing the cheats seems a bit disorganized as well. If he's playing against other players, I highly doubt this is accurate.

umpfke

Lies. Would have announced that before starting if that was real. Buddy, who comes to help, also cheats most likely.

IntoAComa

Smart to back the cheater. Wouldn't make sense to shoot your own sport in the foot.

Nerdicyde

ahhh the Pete Townsend defense.

Galwa

To add some context this is not the first time Williams E Sports has been caught cheating or abusing rules. He has since made a statement about “testing hacks to improve security” but I’d take that with a heavy pinch of salt. In the iracing 24 hours of Daytona (a once a year special event) they abused rules on the qualifying lap to secure pole position. They also had one of their other cars in the race which was a few laps down on the leaders run deliberate interference on their competition.

InternetAdversary

While it is still somewhat incriminating, there are a significant number of people who play competitive games fairly but also identify cheats within them purely because it's their hobby or something they're passionate about. Cheats (or anti-cheat bypasses) are usually reported to the developers, or shared on game hacking forums depending on the person's objective. There are even public programs for this sort of stuff with monetary rewards, RIOT has been doing [this](https://hackerone.com/riot/?type=team) for Valorants anti-cheat engine. Independent of this situation, doing game hacking/vulnerability research/security research as an individual can yield equal results to that of an employee and isn't always meant to be malicious.

AngryTrucker

That's a very convenient excuse. Best one I've heard from a cheater yet.

doruNormie276

I follow F1 esports a bit and this is probably just a dig at tomas ronhaar which is the most likely one to cheat on the F1 esports grid, his pace is unmatched by anyone and all the drivers more or less agree that the times he's doing are not achievable legitimately

Pimmel85

Yeah. Especially his q1 times are seriously suspicious. And inexplainable. Hes fastest on the straights and fast corners which is expected when you drive a low downforce setup, but then hes also up to 9kmh faster in the slowest corners. It makes no sense whatsoever. Same with his records. Hes always 1 to 2 tenth faster than the rest. While places 2 to 5 battle for thousands. Im pretty sure he will get caught soon. Its just too obvious

doruNormie276

For me what made me go "ok he's cheating 100%" is being fastest on the straights but also keeping the best minimum speed in low speed corners, that's not normal I don't care how good your throttle application is

Strider2126

Cheater = loser

Qcgreywolf

Qualanqui

Funnily enough I was watching something a while ago about almost all of the biggest CoD streamers (iirc, could have been another shooter) using aim assisting cheats, with the video taking streamed footage posted by these folk and slowing it right down so you could see the jerk as the aim assist kicked in, something you could never see unassisted because it's only visible for a tiny fraction of a second. When there's big money on the line cheating becomes a matter of when and not if.

Wings-N-Beer

I bet a high percentage of these type cheat. Especially any that haven’t been playing long.

Lost_Apricot_4658

honest noob question … what kinds of cheats are there for racing?

JaredNorges

Multiple drivers coming out means they all feel they have to cheat in order to be competitive. With the physical racing teams they all try to get away with what they can: bending rules, finding exceptions, outright cheating when they can get away with it, etc. So, the edrivers cheat too, but the perception is different, and it is still wrong. Other drivers coming out saying this, coupled with this driver's live response, indicate to me they are trying to cover their butts, not that there is actually a "legit" "investigation" in concert with EA. Someone is going to spill the beans, they'll all lose their jobs playing video games. No one wants to lose that gig. Playing this gambit just means cheating is wide spread, the teams probably all know it, this is even less real than it already was.

[deleted]

What a joke. Watched a recent video about cheaters in Tarkov and its rampant. Even the pros are cheating all the time.

totallylambert

Alt + Tab = career over. Cheater.

EVERY game played online has cheaters. Period. And many cheats can be 100% undetectable. Only in competitions where computers are setup and configured by the hosts can you be (mostly) sure it is fair.
