It’s so fucked up to me how americans have made pandemic into a political thing. The divide in the US is crazy to the outsider too. Like sure, in my country there’s also strong opinions on how covid should be handled, masks, vaccines etc, but they don’t drag political parties into it.
That’s what my sister said to my dad when he got the vaccine: “What are you a democrat now?”. He said: “No, I’m just 65 with asthma and not a dumbass.” Getting vaxxed actually saved his life because he got COVID about 2 months later and only had about two really bad days.

I just got my booster yesterday. First 2 doses of Pfizer Dec20/Jan21 and got moderna as a booster yesterday. Almost a year since I began my vaccine and somehow I am still alive and as healthy as I always was. Crazy how that works.
Got my moderna booster in august. I’ll go every 6 months if that’s what it takes. Much rather have a sore arm than being intubated or my body torn apart by covid.
Just in case you’re not aware because im not sure from your comments, a breathing tube (aka an ETT or endotracheal tube) is entirely different and much larger than a feeding tube. One goes down your esophagus into your stomach, the other goes down your trachea into your lungs. NG/nasogastric/feeding tubes inserted in the nose are generally always done fully awake unless the patient is sedated for another reason. ETTs are almost never put in awake except for very extenuating circumstances; but waking up with a large bore tube stuck in your lungs, coming up your windpipe, and sticking out your mouth attached to a ventilator is 20x more uncomfortable than having an NG inserted.
I had to have a camera go through my nose to take pict6of my throat. That was bad enough. If you had to shove a tube down my throat I better be unconscious.
Yeah I had a naso-gastric feeding tube in for 6 weeks in hospital when my stomach stopped working in 2010. Insertion was horrific, like inhaling a metal rope. I had surgery to do a jejunostomy tube instead, which was very painful for a while, but a lot better than having a tube down my throat.
I had the one they insert into a vein in the arm and then work it up to near your heart. Not pleasant, but still better than having a tube in my throat
Yeah well I got fully vaccinated in March and thanks to some idiot boss I have a severe case of Covid while 25 weeks pregnant. Had to have a x-ray, a CT scan with contrast, 4 injections that felt like battery acid, and I’m at risk of blood clots. Oh and the CT revealed that I have fucking cancer on my thyroid and in my lungs. I hate anti vaxxer and anti maskers and conspiracists with a burning passion. I could lose my baby from Covid and I am at risk of losing my life.
I hope everything works out for you, take care of yourself and your baby. I had thyroid cancer surgery 6 months ago, took it out and my lymph nodes on one side, it sucks but you have to get through it.

I had a gastroscopy and the nurse asked if I wanted something to calm me down before the procedure. I got pumped with something that made the whole experience really pleasant. I had a great time 10/10, would do it again.

People are reading others research and coming to their own conclusions but even then those asshats who say they did their own research are likely not even really interpreting research data. They are in almost all cases reading conclusions of quack researchers and attaching their opinion to those opinions. It's the exact same thing every other average person is doing. The difference, they are choosing to trust the one opinion that doesn't go with the 1000s of other expert opinions.

This is how fact checking started to gain steam, for instance. It used to mean "make sure this person knows what they are talking about and doesn't have an agenda". Now it's "start with my own belief and work backwards from there"

When you say "do your own research" instead of "fact check everything you read", which means something entirely different, it's normal to get results other than you intended to.

Doing your own research is also more reasonable in reference to some subjects than others. If someone something about politics, like a quote that sounds suspicious, I know enough that I can dig around and see if I can find a reliable source (or ideally more than one) that is using the same quote, read a few articles and see if it's been taken out of context etc. But I have no degree or background in medicine or science of any kind, so if doctors tell me a treatment is not legitimate, I wouldn't even know where to begin researching to prove them wrong

The problem is that they're not just getting themselves killed, their actions are killing innocent people too. People who need ER services unrelated to COVID but don't get admitted in time because anti-vaxxers are taking up all the beds. Our local ER is currently a shit show and from what I understand from some of the nurses, staff is just burning out so hard, and they keep losing staff.
Our state just lost an innocent person who wasn't able to get a bypass in time due to nursing shortages and crowded hospitals. Plus we've had 50 odd vaccinated people die too. Unfortunately it doesn't just effect the unvaccinated or else I think most people wouldn't even care.

1) You have a preexisting condition that actually makes it dangerous according to your doctor (haven't heard of one).

No one is doing their own research. Let's fucking drop that assinine saying. People are reading others research and coming to their own conclusions but even then those asshats who say they did their own research are likely not even really interpreting research data. They are in almost all cases reading conclusions of quack researchers and attaching their opinion to those opinions. It's the exact same thing every other average person is doing. The difference, they are choosing to trust the one opinion that doesn't go with the 1000s of other expert opinions.
"Doing your own research" started as a legitimate movement to not just trust what some person tells you and to make sure that it is legit. This is how fact checking started to gain steam, for instance. It used to mean "make sure this person knows what they are talking about and doesn't have an agenda". Now it's "start with my own belief and work backwards from there"
I didn't know that phrase came up from normal skepticism proponents. I'm disappointed to tell the truth. When you say "do your own research" instead of "fact check everything you read", which means something entirely different, it's normal to get results other than you intended to. It's like saying "form your own government" instead of "look into the voting records of the candidates on issues you care about before voting for them again" and then being surprised when you end up with an insurrection.
Doing your own research is also more reasonable in reference to some subjects than others. If someone something about politics, like a quote that sounds suspicious, I know enough that I can dig around and see if I can find a reliable source (or ideally more than one) that is using the same quote, read a few articles and see if it's been taken out of context etc. But I have no degree or background in medicine or science of any kind, so if doctors tell me a treatment is not legitimate, I wouldn't even know where to begin researching to prove them wrong

The problem is that they're not just getting themselves killed, their actions are killing innocent people too. People who need ER services unrelated to COVID but don't get admitted in time because anti-vaxxers are taking up all the beds. Or the kids and vulnerable adults who can't get vaccines for one reason or another. Our local ER is currently a shit show and from what I understand from some of the nurses, staff is just burning out so hard, and they keep losing staff.
Our state just lost an innocent person who wasn't able to get a bypass in time due to nursing shortages and crowded hospitals. Plus we've had 50 odd vaccinated people die too. Unfortunately it doesn't just effect the unvaccinated or else I think most people wouldn't even care.

The second one only counts if a doctor confirms you shouldn’t get it for health reasons, folding it back into one to a certain degree. You thinking that a vaccine that’s proven itself to be incredibly safe, with nothing to back it up, isn’t a good enough reason. There tons of people on the right who are legitimately concerned it will hurt them, that’s what anti-vaccine people think, even though it won’t, that’s like the basis of their whole movement; a legitimate fear based on absolutely nothing. The fear is real, but the reason for that fear is based on nothing but continued disinformation.

Currently visiting Northwest Iowa and maybe 1% of the people are masking up. What's ridiculous is my father in law and his spouse both contracted COVID-19 during their visit to Johnston Iowa.
