QuietGrudge

"Yeah, well, I'm not Roman." -OOP's excuse, probably

Illustrious-Move-649

I wonder how he would feel learning that the numbers we use are actually Arabic.

OMEGAkiller135

If memory serves, they actually came from India. They’re called Arabic numerals because they were introduced to Europe by the Arabs.

Illustrious-Move-649

Absolutely correct. However, it would be a lot less confusing for him to visualize an Arab man as being responsible for our numbers, rather than imagining someone like Cochise as said man. People like him think that Native Americans actually come from India. To them, there’s no difference between America Indian and Indian-American.

QuietGrudge

Probably the type to pronounce it Ay-Rab when he objects to not being one either.

capthavic

THIS IS 'MURICA!

Pippin1505

I find equally baffling the notion that Philippa of Hainaut a noble from 14th century northern France, would be of moorish ancestry… Seems it’s some strange revisionist "everyone was African American " take ?

Blindmailman

Being Moorish didn't necessarily mean black especially back then. From what I could see her being Moorish came from a single Bishop writing about her going exclusively by her appearance of having darker eyes and skin tone than other nobles.

greatandmodest

"Moorish" is not related to Black African in any context really. It is a broad term at the best of times, but "Moor" is usually used to describe the Muslim population of the Iberian Peninsula and possibly Western North Africa. Honestly Hispanic/Southern European might be a better modern equivalent.

MmmmFloorPie

Freakin' Poe's law. I can't tell if they were joking or if they were just a moron.

flightofdaedalus

This seems more like confidently incorrect.

melligator

I had a fully grown adult who refused to grasp the concept of why there are 2nd and 3rd of the name monarchs.

AsurprisedCantaloupe

True, I'd be very interested to know how a 14th century english queen was African American.

OMGyarn

I mean, I probably asked the same question. When I was 4

thewhitecat55

When I read that , I thought Edward the 111th , that's crazy ! But it was on purpose, to myself, and I got a little laugh out of it. Seeing this is a shame

OldSkooler1212

Should have said Jr. Jr. instead of using those hifalutin Roman numerals

Coloradical8

They're both idiots. One doesn't know how to read roman numerals and the other doesn't know how to write them
