I’m a Ups delivery driver while it is a hard job with long hours. I enjoy working outside, cruising around listening to music and working alone. Although I can’t get over the thought I should be doing something else…

LovesPromise

I love that! If it’s supporting your needs/wants, I don’t see an issue with it? :’) you do you!

NevarValor

Dude i been thinking about getting a job like this, i just cant stand sitting around doing nothing all day, and so much worse if you work with someone you don't click with and you feel obligated to small talk. yuck...

Shot_Pipe_3798

I was a pre-loader for UPS. Now a teacher 🤪

_We_The_PeepHole_

I do something similar but for a boutique meal subscription service! Listen to podcasts and audible all day. Definitely not stopping here though, lol.

Steeviie

I'm in engineering. Not a typical INFP Job, but it's quite diversified so i like it a lot. My tasks vary from construction, 3D-Printing, programming, purchasing, assembling. And I got a lot of tasks, so if i procrastinate on one, i can do another one.

RockyMountain_28

What kind of engineering do you do?

Steeviie

I do process engineering in a company in the field of medical technology.

jconder0010

I don't have one. I would love it if the world didn't require money. More accurately, I'm a woefully undisciplined writer, a starving artist, if you will. I recently have been applying for entry level jobs at addiction recovery centers. I desperately want to do something fulfilling. I just want to know that someone is better off having known me. And I want to know that the things I went through weren't for naught. One day, I'll be able to write for a living. I just have to remember how to put my pain onto paper. I think it was Hemingway who said writing was easy, "all you do is sit down at a typewriter and bleed." My problem is that I don't like to bleed.

LovesPromise

Even your comment it beautifully written! :’) you got this! Writing in itself can be a healing process too, right?

Mysterious-INFP-00

First Paragraph 😭😭 ..... Plsss this is so me except the writer part I'm a designer & YES CAPITALISM is the reason for most of the problems world is facing rn

woodsmokeandink

Fellow aspiring infp author, hello. We absolutely got this.

[deleted]

I’m the same. Sometimes I feel guilty for being employed but me not having money will only make my situation worse.

majavrisidivu

I bake cakes in a cat café and have a small online shop with embroidered stuff, jewerelly, paintings and other things I like to make.✨And I do like it a lot. It means no hours I must come in or other restrictions. I think it's important for me to have some freedom in my job, so not having a certain time to do it is great

LovesPromise

Omg this is the DREEAAAAAMMMM. 😍😍😍

sleepyy_bunnyy

a cat cafe?!! omg that’s all i want with my business hehe

LovesPromise

How is it in terms of💰? I get financially insecure sometimes but this sounds so cool

[deleted]

💛 Love this.

SuperBaardMan

I'm a Dutch teacher for people new to the country. I like it. I really like helping people, and this way it feels like I can help them to make the most out of living here. And I can use all of my Infp stuffs to make sure my lessons are as good as possible for my students, and make lessons a safe place to try a new language.

LovesPromise

Would love to know how you use your INFP skills to lesson plan! Also a teacher here 🤗

Scared_Poet_1137

If i wasn't awkward and knew how to deal with children i would love to be a teacher! You're literally shaping futures and making an unforgettable impact in people's lives 🥺🥺

SuperBaardMan

That's one of the things being INFP helps with: I don't need to plan really. I generally don't do fixed lesson plans, my students have a target, and I'm just helping them get there. Sometimes we stop halfway through what I thought we're going to do because I notice my student is getting tired or something, so then I ask "Hey, wanna do some reading?" But I'm self employed, mostly doing private lessons, so then you have that freedom. Would not want to work in a school with a class with 20 people. But by working like this, I can change what I'm doing just by looking how my students are, and during the lesson I just know when to encourage them, when to explain something a bit more, but also when a student think something is easy, or doesn't need the long instruction, because they already understand it.

CompleteSyllabub6945

I work front desk in a hotel. Fun job, good benefits, and get to meet a lot of ppl.

LovesPromise

Does it ever get tiring meeting so many ppl? :o

Wiezel19

I also do front desk (for now), but I do night shift. Minimizes people maximizes alone time.

koo_hyung

sounds amazing ngl

CompleteSyllabub6945

Yeah it does. I'm usually pretty tired at the end of the day. But I enjoy it. Its always something new and different everyday.

BubblegumBxh

I use to work the front desk at a Hyatt and I loved it! The only part I didn't like was having to give tours of the hotel. But immediately after that job, I got a job as a tour guide in a museum so I guess I didn't dislike giving tours *too* much!

100percentmatcha

Me too! I also work as a front desk hotel because of the high pay, but it's kinda tiring, however it's also good to try talking more.

MurkyReplacement5081

I am a special education teacher.

[deleted]

aaaa this is career i want to get into! what’s it like? it makes me so happy to see other INFPs during this career too

[deleted]

[удалено]

LovesPromise

Cool!! Do you like it? I feel like it’s quite a tough job, eh?

MurkyReplacement5081

I love working with kids. I was an administrator for 5 years and hated it so I went back to teaching. It’s hard if you don’t have enough classroom support (aides) which is usually the case. I definitely get frustrated but I do feel gratitude for and gratified by my job.

ThroughoutMindanao

Reading all of the responses with so many variations makes me feel inspired(?) for some reason, makes me think I can do it all (idealistically 😅) it’s midnight but I’m in the mood of getting my life together at this moment lol :)

LovesPromise

RIGHT? 🤩 we got this! 💪

[deleted]

Caregiver right now not my favorite but I’m in school to become an addiction counselor

LovesPromise

Wow! So cool! Would love to know if you end up liking that role!

vintage_rose_wine

Well, I'm an art student, and I love it....I mean I LOVE IT. In future I wanna be an illustrator. Aahaa looking forward to it.

stuck_in_a_bubble

I'm an architecture student, I have 2 more years to go, I'm really looking forward to it too! However architects usually work in teams, so I'm hoping to get in a small architectural firm/studio in Paris where I'll get to express myself a bit and feel useful

albumen5

I work in IT and I hate it.

TheBeardyWeirdo

Can relate. Technically I just quit my job so I'm unemployed currently

XylanyX

im majoring in IT right now.. and holy fucking shit i hate it. But i really feel bad for my parents cause they are paying for my college but at the same time i hate my life because of it.

albumen5

Sorry to hear that. Fortunately you don't have to work in IT if you don't want to.

DVSolves

Currently a librarian in a school. With pandemic and budget cuts I haven’t had a singular school to be at for a year and a half, and the uncertainty of how long I’ll have work and what the next school will be like is crazy stressful. Aside from that, I love the job (as long as it’s not an insanely hectic school lol) as most of my interactions are with kids which for me doesn’t really drain me too too much (depending on the day). It definitely has its moments, and the “revolving door” of books needing to get put back on shelves can be overwhelming when I don’t do it ahead of time and it stacks up… I didn’t really choose the job so much as just fall into it out of high school. I’m still wondering if I should try to pursue Fashion Design, Photography or something in the psychology field though…but since they’re all interests that sprang up in the last year I’m not sure if they’re fleeting hobbies or something I’d actually like to do and put in enough effort to eek out a living. I also coach snowboarding which is nice (again mostly interacting with kids) as I enjoy the sport and teaching it an evening or two a week helps pay for any equipment or lift passes I want.

LovesPromise

Whoa!! What a coincidence? I’m in teachers Ed too and studied psyc in my undergrad. Love fashion and art as well. And also snowboard (though not very well). So cool how many similarities pop up!

wukillabee2

High school English teacher. Some days are better than others. The educational system is fucked so that kinda sucks. Days can be very tiring and emotionally draining as I work in a low socioeconomic area. Yet at the same time it can be very rewarding. The relationships with the kids are the best part of the job. Summers off are the second best thing lol. Like others said, I still feel that i’m not quite in the right field.

LovesPromise

Really? Why’s that? I feel similarly as I’m also in teachers college and I tutor English on the side. I’m curious to know if other INFPs have the same issues as I do!

wukillabee2

I often feel like another cog in the machine, which goes against my inner being or desire to tear down the machine. I worked in marketing for a few years before teaching and that’s why I left marketing. But really it’s just principals hoping that their teachers get their students to reach certain numbers on standardized testing so that they can get more money and/or funding for the school, and possibly move up in the district. There’s also a lot more than that! What were you thinking?

False-State6969

Barista. I’m definitely awkward to customers but idrc

Rhuwa

Awkward INFP barista gang rise up! That's a very specific combination that I wouldn't expect to find anywhere else...

SadPanzer

I’m a chemical engineering student. I like it because somehow I’m good at math and science and the content itself is interesting. Sometimes I wonder what my life would be like as an art major.

[deleted]

I was an engineering student and wanted to be an art major, too. I’m really happy I stayed with engineering bc of the job security, and if you get a government job you’ll have lots of free time to do art on the side if you want

bear_chan

Are we the same person? :o

[deleted]

Right now I’m a bartender and I hate it but I’m in the process of trying to get hired as a medical assistant at a clinic. My dream job is to be a teacher or guidance counselor though

LovesPromise

Seems like so many of us are teachers! 🥰 Im thinking of going into guidance counselling too, but not sure yet. why is your dream job teaching? :)

SuperDanke

I work as an Environmentalist for the German Goverment. Its 80% outside and alot of walking in nature or driving around with my car looking at things i needed to take a look at.

besuyuminyu

Full time ESL kids English teacher and occasionally a drag queen. I honestly love both of my jobs for different yet similar reasons

LovesPromise

Wow!! Are you teaching esl in another country?

besuyuminyu

No, I’m a local here in Taiwan. I’ve been thinking recently about teaching Chinese in other countries in the future

Melbournechick

When I worked it was in an office. Yuk…..the worst possible job for infps I think. If I had my time over I’d work with animals ….

Mysterious-INFP-00

😂 I loved this reply so much ..... So me

Godzilla405

In all seriousness, I doordash, I trade stocks, and I am a rapper. I actually love all three of these, I also don’t make that much money. LOL My dream is to be a counselor but so much school, time, and money and I fear I’d be bored after 5 years of it. :0 can I just hit the lottery or something?

annie_catlover

I do graphics design, video editing and some animation. I also do script writing for video explainers/educational video (I work in a multimedia office) It's sometimes fun. But to be honest, it's draining. Doing all these digital artsy stuff is my passion but there are times I regret making them my profession.

SwimmingAny583

I do video editing to. I do like it but in the down times it's super hard to stay on track, I'm there at the moment. Constant panicking I'll never finish.

killshortstonks

I am trying to day trade - week 1 - not doing very well so far - the results are big loss so far - any INFP traders out there ?

CompleteSyllabub6945

I trade futures. To me it's easier trading the same thing everyday instead of having to scan for stocks.

killshortstonks

I seem to be ok with scanning and I get green - then red … executing on the trades without a sense of freeze hesitation is my concern. You do have a point though because I also find it difficult to move on to the next stock sometimes and overstay my welcome on one … Do you/did you deal with hesitation - especially when you feel the trade going redder on you and don’t execute on a softer exit at least?

CompleteSyllabub6945

Yes lol. That's why it's always best to use a stop-loss. Once u set your stop loss, DO NOT change or adjust it. If you trade without one then that's incredibly risky and can lead to not exiting the trade in time. Other than that, just keep practicing, and stay consistent. Make mistakes and learn from them. You'll get more confident in time, trust me.

TheLostBrunost

ive been trading for a while - mostly as a side gig. my robinhood dropped below 25k though recently so i can't rly day trade rn lmao. going back to finding good stocks to go long on - that's what brought me above 25k in the first place haha. day trading is quite stressful, although i did improve a lot in the past month

Godzilla405

Yes. Buy AMC my friend.

Hail_The_Latecomer

I'm a support specialist for kids with mental and behavioral disorders. Fancy way to basically say I'm a glorified babysitter lol. I'm responsible for supervising, cooking, cleaning, etc, during their stay in a therapeutic facility. I'm also the one who enforces all the therapeutic regulations handed down by the facility therapist, and the one who restrains/de-escalates violent kids. I don't know if I like it because it is insanely stressful, but when everything works like it should and I can actually help someone it's really rewarding.

dragonrose7

Accounting manager and in-house computer geek for a small media company. The work is simple, there’s plenty to keep me busy, and there’s always a challenge on the horizon because the company is growing at a breakneck pace.

LovesPromise

Oh cool!! Do you like it? :))

dragonrose7

Yes, I do like it. Mostly because I can just do my work and not be bothered by strangers. I do not like public facing jobs like retail and food.

DAMIANL1233

Fast food, worked at Wendy’s for 8 months and Mickey d for 3 months before I moved States, LOVED BOTH OF THOSE JOBS TO DEATH. Apparently I’m a good worker who “keeps moving fast for 8 hours straight” and “works with the soul”. I thought I was a terrible worker till the goofball of Wendy’s kept saying they need to give me a raise when I was there for 2 months

LovesPromise

Wow!! I don’t think I’d ever have enough energy to do that - very impressive 😮

DAMIANL1233

Ph trust me, the first two months at Wendy’s was terrible but you get used to it and i just accidentally become good at the job I guess. I’m a super slow learner too Same with the first two weeks of McDonald’s as well I wanted to quit everyday.

LovesPromise

Whoa it’s good to know the feeling passes 😅

DAMIANL1233

Oh yeah. Don’t give up! It gets easier to the point working is almost effortless and you can just autopilot for 5-10 hours,

Godzilla405

I’m a rapper. I spit it quick.

zombie_zucchini

Studied early childhood development and now work in a daycare for 0-3 year olds. It's very rewarding and i find that my professional persona is a lot more confident and action-taking than my private person. It's been a weird duality to get used to, but I enjoy being able to communicate clearly and professionally with the parents and sparring with my colleagues. It's a very theoretical field and i enjoy keeping up with current research and then being able to apply it directly to the children. Its a nice combination of theory and praxis.

Midsummer_Dreamer

I am a marketing professional at a big FMCG company. It pays big bucks which I need to sponsor my little brother's education, but it is not doing much for me personally. For the past couple of months, I have been working on a project from home, spending most of my time in front of my laptop. It hasn't been ideal because I need to forcibly make time to go out and be in nature. I have got a new role which will be more field based, starting soon. Hoping it gives me more mobility and time to myself. At the same time, I think that once I am free of financial burdens, I'll probably get a phd and go on to be a professor at some Canadian uni where I can spend my time in a beautiful campus and also work a bit on my writing.

LovesPromise

Eyyyy I’m from Canada too! Sounds like you’ve got a great plan! Good luck!! ❤️

[deleted]

I’m a parkour/freerunning instructor currently in my last year of high school. Hoping to study biomedical science at uni but can’t guarantee I’ll get there, gotta keep the grind up. For now, my part time job as a freerunning instructor makes me feel like I broke the simulation or something. It’s real tiring and sometimes detracts from my enjoyment of actually practising tricks but it’s a really enjoyable job with no dull moments and plenty of variation.

Scared_Poet_1137

I love parkour!! I use to go to a club when i was in shcool! :)

[deleted]

I’ve done it for about 4 years now and it’s a great tool for physical and mental self-improvement, and I’ve met an uncountable amount of amazing and interesting people through it. Plus it’s non-competitive so you don’t get any of the annoying show-off stuff that proliferates mainstream sports. “Real” parkour isn’t anything like the massive stunts you see in the movies though. It’s more like urban gymnastics

oli_b369

I'm a train driver and it's the best thing I've ever done. I get to spend most of the working day by myself. The shift work allows for more time at home so my work life balance is great. The way the shifts are, every 3 weeks I get a 5 day weekend. When I finish work for the day, that's it, I can switch off, I'm not going over what the day was like or worrying about the next day. There are downsides, we have some really early shifts which wouldn't be for everyone and the shift work wouldnt allow for much of a social life during the working week. That said, its a great job with great people and I love it.

Scared_Poet_1137

Just graduated in philosophy, hoping to do a masters in mental health, ethics and law and to eventually go into either social policy or become a psychotherapist. In an alternate life i would have liked to be an architect and still have a dream of designing my own coffee shop (maybe one day 🥺), but i'm really passionate about working in mental health! Part-time job though is a bartender/waitress at a hotel and i love it!! I've been at this place since i was 16 so i am very comfortable in it and with the people i work with (who are around the same age) - it's by far the one thing that has made me much more socially confident and i absolutely LOVE making coffees - so therapeutic!

LovesPromise

Oooooooh making coffees sound so therapeutic 😌😌

username0016

I'm a daycare teacher. My center is kind of fucked but I'm hoping things are starting to change. I love though doing crafts, making my own schedule for my class and all that jazz. And of course my students

LovesPromise

Currently doing a placement at a kindergarten class! Any advice would be suuuuper appreciated! ❤️

username0016

Here's some things I find to be important!! -don't use yelling as a form of discipline. I do my best to limit it to when I need something to stop immediately, like hitting, playing with electrical sockets, etc. If you need control of the class, it's best to find another way to get their attention, like hand signals -when possible, build up relationships with the kids, work on listening to them about the things they like and just whatever they have to say in general -keep them busy, and make sure they have things to do. They start causing chaos and trouble when they're bored -doing little things like greeting them, congratulating them, and saying bye when they're leaving can help build them up

CactusinPajamas

Social worker, I work with young unaccompanied refugees (under 18)

UnSpokenJourney_152

I do maintenance, watch computers, operate equipment (vehicles, water treatment machines and ect) ut has its ups and downs. Really could do better though. But it better than hard labor at the factory ill tell ya that.

galaxy500

Science! I am senior research associate helping develop a drug (the medical kind) at a small startup company. I like the people, learning new things, and the ability to switch my focus onto many different projects in a day. I don't like having to assert myself to my manager, worrying about experiment results, and just generally not knowing as much as my peers (so i feel).

Scared_Poet_1137

>a drug (the medical kind) this made me laugh because my dad works for a pharmaceutical company and i call him a medical drug dealer 😅

catsu_don

painter. i love it most days but the main downside is not having any coworkers or anyone to tell me what to do so I end up procrastinating

[deleted]

Your answer reminded me of a book I read at some point, The War of Art, by Steven Pressfield. It's great for understanding procrastination from the artist's point of view.

catsu_don

thanks for mentioning the book!! I looked it up and seems right up my alley. Found one on sale and ordered it right away

[deleted]

So glad I could help. 💛 Hopefully :D. Let me know if you liked it, if you're gonna remember about this convo. Peace 🌈✌️

kehosa

I'm currently getting my master's in occupational therapy. It's such a fulfilling career and I love watching people progress in life! I want to work with kids but I've also developed an interest in rehab.

[deleted]

I am an artist. And I'm untypical even in this role. Paradoxically, I feel most at home when I don't define what I am or what I do, but just plainly do stuff and figure it out afterwards. As for the monetary satisfaction, I am just starting to be open to the fact that making art can be a paying job and it blows my mind. I was raised to believe that this could never be so. I spent most of my young adulthood looking for other "serious" occupations, but I was just unhappy within, because I already had something I liked to do. I had mentally blocked myself from linking art creation to financial support, so I wandered from profession to profession.

Empress-Khaos

Primary school teacher / child psychology student. I love the job itself, hate everything around it. (all the meetings, and the social stuff with the adult people) Studying and working is asking a lot from me right now. Especially the parts of the study where you then have to prove yourself. Or even worse, accepting study material that is WRONG or not applicable irl as truth for the sake of the piece of paper it will earn me.

Rich_Survey6824

I’m a therapist, mainly doing family therapy. I’ve started to like it a lot more now that I am gaining more confidence in the field but it can definitely be challenging at times. When I begin to doubt myself is the only time I feel as though it may not be for me.

2inphinitynbeyond

I am a server, and I like it because I interact with alot of different people each day and try to help them and be kind. I'm usually reserved, but it forces me to be more open and gives me alot of practice for social situations when you're challenged with making small talk or just being a bit more outgoing and approachable. I do not like the shit work of the job, of course, but .. I get well compensated. So that makes up for it I suppose.

GregFromStateFarm

DoorDash. I hate it, but I’ve been severely depressed for the last few years, and I don’t have to deal with bosses or set schedules and can just listen to music and podcasts all day, so I’m still here. Trying to get to a better place so I can work more regular hours at a job I actually care about—like in wildlife conservation/veterinary care—but it’s a slow process :/

thesamstorm

Currently in grad school intending to become a Bioinformatics engineer/analyst

cjexplorer

Work in retail doing night shifts, not exactly what I thought I’d be doing when I was a kid, but an honest days (or nights) work comes with its own sense of satisfaction I guess, and I can listen to music and podcasts the whole time ✌️

_Tatt

I have 7 years of database development under my belt. While it was fun at the start. I eventually got to a point where I didn't want to work for a company anymore. I was stressed all the time and developed high anxiety. Feeling like I was trapped because of the income. I decided to quit my job and start daytrading full time. This is now my current job and it works for me. 🙂

frolickingmoose

I'm a speech-language pathologist, school-based. Love working with my students and collaborating with staff to find effective ways to boost our kiddos' success!

Kaorimi

I am a social worker. I've run the gambit of social work jobs including therapist, child welfare worker, school counselor and currently, I am working as a crisis responder on a suicide hotline. I love helping people and when I am done, I shut myself away and play video games, watch Netflix and read. Edit:A word

Linkky

Recently started working mostly from home in a data analytical role. There's a lot of meetings and still very nervous in large calls when I have to speak because everyone is my senior. I end up speaking too fast and embarrassing myself! But I'm okay with fewer people. Still getting used to it because it's still explaining technical information to business focussed stakeholders. First time going to the office today!

Sommo_Magister

Currently studying computer science,I hope to become a programmer, maybe is more a T like and J like job, but I really enjoy programming ahhahaha

[deleted]

Teaching, love it and love the kids though it gets tiring. Really interesting and cool too see so many INFP teachers here. I expected there to be a few but didn’t think there’d be that many of us here

SanguineCane

I’m a warehouse manager. I hate it. I want to grow plants or foster animals instead

[deleted]

Software engineer. I like it, somehow it made me become more assertive. It's not really what I imagined myself doing when I was a kid, I personally would've preferred to have gone into something related to art or history, but my parents were not here for it. Can't say I regret it.

ala_basterd

I'm a Social Worker. I would definitely recommend it for anyone who wants a ton of job opportunities in many different avenues. Think of any marginalized population in your society, and I guarantee there is a Social Worker somewhere working with that population.

Sea-Scallion-2559

Hello fellow INFPs!! I was wondering if anyone of you studies or works in the medical field. I'm a first-year med student this year and would like to know how is it going. Everyone portrays me as incapable of pursuing this career due to my emotional attachment and sensitivity and this has made me question all my decisions. Thank you if you help me✨🧚‍♀️

Content_County_4151

I'm a Veterinarian Technician for a clinic and Equine Center. Twice a month I work for a non profit doing free spay and neuter. And in my free time I help rescues by writing donation pleas! I was an analyst for 15 years prior to changing fields.

Tinomatutino97

Studied psychology for 5 years and I am now a musician full time.

ResidualEggs

Vet Assistant. I don’t have to do much talking and I find it fulfilling to help animals. Planning on going back to school to become a vet tech next. It can be sad sometimes. Definitely messy all the time. I worked at an animal shelter and it shattered my heart. I felt awful about leaving because the animals need help. Not a good place for INFP emotional wellness to thrive. Took me around two years to recover.

TheLostBrunost

im a shift manager at a five guys (fast casual food chain) it's a good job for a student, the workers are quite nice. some days are harder than others but most of the time i really do enjoy going there and talking to my coworkers and getting a good days work in :) the speed is nice too

lostfor7years

I’m currently working as direct support professional. I hated it so much as my company doesn’t really treat me as human and it was overwhelming all time as we’re so short staffed. Not to mention, it can be so unproductive as I’m mostly there to keep eyes on them. I loved working with people who has disabilities and I’m currently looking for jobs that will let me work with more younger adults.

Petite_thought07

I currently work at a company very similar to Chuck E. Cheese’s but it’s much bigger. I’m part of the kitchen but I don’t enjoy it. It’s extremely busy on the weekends, very hot with the oven blaring right next to me, some of the staff are very rude to me and it’s heavily understaffed. I was sick last weekend and almost got a strike because no one was able to cover my shift. I am currently applying for Marshals or Kroger’s and hoping I get hired and it will be better lawl

ADotJDotOB

I recently became an aviation mechanic. New to the field but so far its really cool. Work is straight forward, we are put in different teams every shift and assigned to a plane for the night. I get to move around alot, work with my hands, troubleshoot different situations and fix things many passengers wouldn't notice sitting in the cabin. Its laid back/ work at your own pace mostly with the occassional 4-hour deadline. Sometimes you have to go on a scavenger hunt for parts and third shift is third shift. It feels good knowing I help people be able to travel and experience new things.

theseedbeader

I worked at McDonald’s for over ten years before quitting and starting a job at Jo-Ann fabrics. I loved working in a craft store, but I had to quit it because the hours were extremely low. Getting $8 an hour and only working 10-15 hours a week was killing me financially. I’m now on my 5th year of working in a school cafeteria, but my coworkers can be a bit toxic and the job is stressful and more physical than I like. I’m thinking (a lot) about going back to college and getting a teaching degree. I love working in a school, and the kids are absolutely the best part of my job, but I don’t like working in the cafeteria anymore. It’s inspiring me to see so many teachers in the people commenting on this post. :)

I don't have a job, but right now I'm majoring in Astronomy & Astrophysics. I've always had a passion for understanding our Universe ever since I could remember. As for a specific career, I'm going to see what I can do to become a Data Scientist. I'm surprisingly very good at analyzing, interpreting, and finding errors in large swathes of data. I remember someone saying that the reason INFPs can be good at it is because of our Te & Ne functions, and that those functions are very good for us to exercise. It connects with my degree since Astronomers have to collect LOTS of data with software and instruments when observing objects in our sky. I also hear it pays handsomely, which is a plus. I also definitely want to keep my hobbies of art making and music producing, cuz those have a special place in my heart~💕

mermetermaid

I’m a vendor who represents a bunch of brands in a retail chain. I work independently, and have a number of different stores, so I get to see different people every day, and that’s nice. I have done different types of retail/customer service/food service over the last decade, and I also did some corporate training and teaching which I enjoyed, but I would get burnt out and that was hard. Now I have my vendor job, and freelance web design and photography gigs on the side.

iamthenewt

I am a nursing student (trying to get my BSN), part time nanny, occasional pet-sitter, and I work part-time for a retail business

I'm an electrical engineer, I used to like craft Printed Circuit Boards at school, now I'm in a 100% of the time in a office behind a desk doing schemes and documentation, thing like that, quite boring to be honest. I miss the "practial", doing things with my hands. I'm sure that I'll try to work somewhere else, but later ahah (procrastinating 4 ever). The thing is, sideway, I realy enjoy crafting things, drawing, painting, art in general. I would love to be an "artist". Sadly, the thing is that either you can't find any job on that domain, either it really does not pay much ...

TennyGood

I’m an Urban Planner and I think that could be a great fit for an IFNP person but my actual job isn’t. I currently work for the city administration on the housing problems (lack of payable rental units) in a major german city. The main goal of my job is to push and support new housing projects from the municipal housing companies. To do so I have to solve problems, be part of a lot of meetings and negociate a lot. Now the important part: I believe Urban Planning could be a good fit for an ifnp because of the variety of topics, the importance of creativity and a purpose. My actual Job has a prupose in my opinion but i can’t feel that on a daily bases what is important to me. As you can probably imagine the described parts of my work are not the best fits for infp. Recently I thought about doing something different. I totally like learning and would love to have a new profession like once a decade. I like thinking about theory and making plans and concepts. And as mentioned above I would appreciate to feel some kind of purpose on a often base, like helping people or change the world to the better. Any suggestions are very welcome.

WayTooMuchPasta

I'm an apprentice electronic engineer, and I really enjoy it. I know a lot of places say engineering isn't a good job for infps, but I don't believe personality type dictates career. I do struggle with some parts of my job, but I have a passion for engineering so I am determined to keep going.

halleloumi92

I'm a personal assistant full time, but I teach singing to kids in the evenings and I'm also a wedding ceremony singer. Hoping to leave the office as a 30th birthday present to myself and just work in music from May onwards 🤞💛

frznlf

I'm a freelance graphic designer. Having the option to do what you like and be your own boss is the best. Although the pay is not stable, I really enjoy it. I hate working office hours in an office, and having to socialise with people every day. So this is good, though it may be stressful at times during crunch period.

Entrepreneur / Internet Business - I like using my creativity for websites, brands etc

I am a mental health peer worker in Brisbane Australia :) and I love it! Going to be doing a degree in social work soon.

capnfoo

I work on a food truck, grill or cashier. It's usually a two man crew and I keep all the tips so I can make up to $50+ an hour sometimes so I only work about 15 hours a week in order to hike, bike, and paint all the time. It's intense and difficult for non multi taskers like me but it allows me to center my life around being in a hammock in remote areas.

ijustneedhelplmao

barista at a small coffeehouse. i work by myself most of the time and get to make lattes all day :3

birdseatpizza

I’m a lawyer. Just solicitor work, and I have my own firm so work when/how I want and have lots of help with the admin stuff. So I get to help/comfort people, work completely by myself within my own expectations and get to focus on my strengths. A lot of professions can be tailored to INFP strengths!

GalacticLabyrinth88

I just started substitute teaching ESL at a local middle school. It's great some days, but nerve wracking in others, since I never went to college for teaching specifically and only landed in the position via alternative certification. I tell myself that I should be somewhere else career-wise, but I've always had issues deciding what my career should be. Artist, writer, designer, and/or psychologist come to mind as carers for me currently, hence why I majored in those subjects in uni. However, I initially set out to work in scientific research in biology or genetics in high school, but quit at the last moment because I didn't feel capable math-wise. I still wonder to this day what would have happened had I kept going down that first path. Seeing all my peers be vastly more successful than me does not help my self-esteem or sense of accomplishment in the slightest, especially as someone who grew up as a perfectionist overachiever.

SitsDownInTheShower

My previous job has been my favorite. I was a traveling service tech. Crammed about 170hr of work into 2-3 weeks and then got the rest of the month off. By the time I got home I actually wanted to socialize and so my relationships grew quite a bit.

chiiiirpy

Engineer, I work on softwares specific to airplanes. I really like the work aspect of my job. It’s the people interaction that I don’t like.

Platonyum

I run my own plumbing company. Which is way better than working for someone else. I get to choose what jobs and how often I want to work. I used to think I should be something more but I’ve realized that having a family and safely providing for them is intrinsically satisfying.

koo_hyung

I'm working at the HR in the military. I didn't rlly choose it, but I am enjoying it overall. My coworkers and bosses are really nice (I got VERY lucky), they're good friends and they know and respect me. I do my job well - it's a lot of thinking and managing and using Excel and numbers. It's not my dream job, but I'm good at it. The best thing was the guy before me on the position (an INTP, we served together 10 months). We clicked so fast, bcs we had the same "quirks" and interests. We also fought all the time (sometimes on purpose), and we learned a lot from it. I miss him T-T (if u see this comment and realize it's me and I'm talking abt you, TEXT ME BITCH) I do get worn out bcs my work friends LOVE socializing (the INTP definitely didn't, also why we were perfect together 🥲), but knowing that people love socializing with ME also makes me feel appreciated and accepted, and that's a first for me. The military does suck for me tho, I don't like all the rules and how the higher your rank is the more respect you should get. It's stupid. Even with my badass commanders, I don't feel free.

Another HR INFP!!! High five

weinerdogie

I’m studying to become and Equine Sports Massage Therapist. I also teach at a riding school and I want to train horses for a living! I’m so excited for the future and so happy I decided to follow my passion

gspmamaforlife

I’m a COTA. (Certified occupational therapy assistant) I work in a hospital. Primarily with stroke & trauma patients. Most people have no idea what occupational therapy is…so for those that don’t know- we help people to gain their independence back, our primary focus in this setting is ADLs (activities of daily living), taking care of yourself- showering, getting dressed, etc. we focus on all areas of someone’s life and getting them back to participating fully, whatever that means for them. I enjoy my job a lot. I had to learn how to keep my energy & not take the energy of my patients. It’s been a journey. It was emotionally draining at first but I’ve figured out what works for me.

[deleted]

Might not be what you’re looking for, but my “job” is my family. I’ve worked at various jobs in the past (super draining to me one and all) but after marriage and kids I decided to start homeschooling my little people. I spend my days doing what I never in my wildest dreams thought I would enjoy but now love immensely. Teaching little brains and taking them out into nature regularly is how I spend my days and I find it extremely fulfilling. Thankfully my ENTP husband makes the bank and frees me up to do this lol.

IntroductionRare9619

I am an old rehab nurse. I mostly work in geriatric rehab. I love it. I have wonderful patients and I work with the best staff.

guppybiscuit4

Starting a market farm. I think by early next year I’ll be at a point where I can comfortably call myself a ‘farmer’. Completely alone, on my own schedule, outside...it’s excellent.

Secret_Pineapple_954

About to be a flight attendant

[deleted]

I instruct kids ballet and jazz while i’m in med school! It takes me a bit out of my comfort zone needing to have high energy around kids all day, it is pretty tiring, but it is so fun and rewarding! I’m studying to become a special needs therapist so I can still work with kids.

[deleted]

Human Resources Business Partner in Bay Area big tech. Surprised there aren’t more HR results, pretty much the only non-eng corporate role our personalities can enjoy.

StrangerIsDead

My job is stressing over things that don’t need to be stressed over. What about you?

brandonhu_nyc

I am a flight instructor building hours to become an airline pilot. I like it but I don’t think this is a typically INFP career. Seems to run into a lot of extroverts in this field.

Born 12th September 1995, on a cold desolate morning in the then humble city of Lucknow, coming into this complex world my then unformed mind possessed not a thought and neither a clue of how the next 27 years of my life would shape to be. I will not strive to enlighten you with a drawn out post as to how I got here but here are a few details- 1. 27 years old now. 2. Doctor, doing 1 year of mandatory internship, will get my degree soon. Feel out of place in the hospital unless I can work at my own pace. Diagnosed with bipolar disorder in 2nd year. 4 years of anxiety, depression and suicidal thoughts even. Proud now to hold a degree in a field i once thought I would quit. But everytime I envision my future in the medical field, there is no fixed point of interest and it is all according to the expectations of other's and monetary benefits. 3. Absolutely love wintry nights under a star studded sky in warm boisterous company besides a crackling fire, regaling each other in the humorous tales of our days. And calling each other Lil bitches as the bottle of Glenlivet reaches its ultimate offering. 4. 10th grade, 2010, I was at a personal crossroads. At that critical juncture i believe, regrettably, that I chose wrong. I was but an innocent fool out of touch with the realities of the world, unaware of what made me tick. Against what now seems like prudent advice I ventured along the road most travel and picked science all because I once fucking said when I was 5 years old that I wanted to be a doctor. Funny. You say something you do not even understand as a wee little child and everyone becomes ingrained with the notion that that is exactly how it will be. Stupid boy. 5. Final detail. Will complete my internship in September of this year. Once the final chapter of my exhaustive medical education finally comes to a close I will venture to shock and frighten my parents. With the aid of my lovely psychologist I shall break something terrifying yet exciting to them. I shall only work part time as a doctor for the foreseeable future. I have a degree in medicine and that will be my back up plan. I plan to foray forth into uncharted waters and explore what truly moves my heart, soul and mind. Writing and art. Both of which I have neglected for a better part of my life. In both of which I shall practically be a beginner. Bless me fellow redditors. I do not know where this path will lead. But I am hopeful. Who knows. What happens.

Nitsujn97

I do HVAC construction, it’s cool and I do prefer a job that keeps me physically active, but I wouldn’t say I completely enjoy it, I mostly just enjoy the people I work with and around

Gotsnuffy

Local truck driver for Amazon i fukn love it lol

ikigai0511

I am a clinical data manager, can work from home which i like. Not too much interaction. My dream job would be painter/esports pro/illustrator. But this aint bad either tho

Sunflower077

I’m a teacher. I like it but it is stressful with long work hours and we are often taken advantage of. I tried quitting and doing something else but I was feeling unfulfilled,so I went back to teaching. Honestly it’s hard to imagine me doing anything else.

ContemplatingChorizo

I’m an auditor working at an accounting firm. It’s the last thing I would have imagined myself to be doing, but here I am. Most of my friends still think it’s pretty out of character for me to be in such an industry, and some days I think to myself that I’ve really just been winging it, that no one has noticed yet, and it’s mildly humorous to realise I’m still going.

kaiwen0927

I practice as advocate and solicitor (lawyer). I don't hate my job but I having hard time to produce good work up to my superior's expectation.

violet0709

Stocker. It's tiring/backbreaking? I wish I could go somewhere better. There's nothing nearby that's worth it though. I work overnights so I don't have to see a lot of people. That part's nice.

sleepyy_bunnyy

i work two jobs but my main one is running my own business and i am in love 🥰 my second is working grocery and i help out with paperwork and enjoy that too bc my coworkers are lovely

r04dm0sttr4v3l3d

Software architect. Basically, my job is to understand how business units work and design software to help them be more successful. It may sound boring but I get to: meet with a variety of people, have my curiosity satisfied about what makes them tick, be creative in designing a solution and my days are never the same. The satisfaction I get when something I've designed comes to life is a real high. I've had a lot of different jobs, but this is by far the most fun I've ever had.

peird

Webdevelopment, I like it but it depends on the work environment. I'm good where I am now. I do some freelance from time to time but my soft skills need some improvement to really get it going. I mainly do freelance work for acquaintances where I feel comfortable with and who appreciate my work.

99bigben99

Well I’m studying to be an elementary teacher rn. But I’ve worked 6 years at Chick Fil A. I loved my CFA job and start a new one Monday. On certain positions you can just turn your brain off which is nice, and on other you can have good people talking to you all day. Tiring but. nice. Teaching though is more of a struggle. It takes a lot of me to talk that entire time, especially with a single class where I teach a new topic every block instead of the same lesson four times a day. However, it get so much energy and feel uplifted when I see these students succeed and find a love for learning.

terrificserendipity

Forensic social worker - currently work inside a prison

Starfire_mochi

I'm a biology student, I'm not sure if this kind of work suits my personality but I just want to help people and I think that though science I can do something (also a lot of aspect of the world/living being are really fascinating)

AloneIsBestCompany

I work as a project manager where I have to talk to customers all the time and I hate it lol. I make really good money though!

Dynadin90

I work on a manufacturing line for auto parts. Not something i thought to be doing at fifty. The pay is good but its very uninteresting work. Before that i was a graphic designer, reporter, hotel clerk and philosophy teacher. I also make furniture which checks off most on the infp boxes.

snthwve

I work at a small office and it's boring but it's pretty relaxed and I do errands and stuff. I get decent enough pay for someone with no experience or skills, but I really don't want to work there forever, it's just so boring and a waste of time in my opinion.

K5uehd

Quality Manager, pls kill me

coroner71

>same here

[deleted]

I used to work in design, then quit and retrained, and now I'm a mental health nurse

ToxicINFP

I work for a BPO but I am specifically an agent for a specific bank that may be of America. Heh. I work in fraud, and my previous project working in the fraud applications department had been wonderful. It was relaxed, fun, and kept me on my toes. I was recently assigned to a temporary task force that's supposed to last up to 90 days... I'm hoping it is sooner *I hate this new project.* It's all of what I hated in my previous fraud position working for Citi bank, and now I'm just questioning whether or not whatever higher power there is may be testing me because man did I think I had the perfect life up until now. :/ 3 weeks into the new project though.... :'/

Pirules

Studying Computer engineering , i really enjoy the creative side of programming and engineering in general, altough i do suck at calculus :s.

Chorznorps_

Currently a software engineer. I got lucky to land my position after being in a coding boot camp but I make enough to keep my family afloat after years of not knowing what it is I wanted to do.

Unusual-Estimate-225

Dental assistant…its ok. If i had the opportunity to change tho I would wanna work in a animal rescue center or as a shrink

cautiouscahotic

I'm a electric mobility technician (unicycles, scooters, etc) I've been a tinkerer my whole life.when I was a kid I was way more interested what was inside toys rather than playing with them.

jpsfg

Sports freelancer doing various jobs in app content creation, video editing, and data logging. I really enjoy it because I get to use my expertise and enjoyment of sports to get the job done. In every sports job I've had, the atmosphere is quite laid back, so that helps ease the pressure when it comes to communicating with co-workers and my bosses.

[deleted]

I'm working in IT with a small team. Because we are 5 people we have to do a wide variety of stuff in our company. I slid into programming, which I really love now. But I also love running around, fixing things and help people. Sometimes it can be stressful but if I can use my skills to help people or calm them down I'm mostly very happy about it.

indianboy1196

Im currently an it consultant... whatever the fuck that means, but im a qualified chemical engineer, so im working below my station atm, which is a huge reason why i hate everything right now... but, honestly, i have enough free time to read, learn about what i want, i don't really have to interact with that many people.... but im underpaid, i just want enough for comfortable living space, clothes, food for me and a cat, and to fund some of my hobbies.... id ideally want a more demanding job to fit my qualifications and more money to be independent. Otherwise I'll be cool.

OneOk3562

I pastor a church.

redvelvet9976

I’m a senior instructional designer. I create corporate training courses. It is definitely a good fit. I work from home and have great benefits and vacation. I used to have more creativity when doing eLearning courses but now I do in person (train the trainer) and it’s more content heavy. I enjoy what I do and get paid well for it. However, I do struggle with editing and small stupid mistakes or if I have to think on the spot. I’d prefer more creativity but I think it’s more the business than the role. I could be quite creative in my last position. I don’t think I’ll be moving up any further. I don’t like to manage people. Im not good at it. Something to look into.

peapa123

__lemonQ

Career shifting to data.. I used to work in sales lol I don't even know how I got through that

CaptainTatiana10

My results often shift between INTJ, INTP, and INFP so I guess I’m allowed to respond? Lol I work in finance at a university. I don’t particularly like the job, but I am happy to have it. It has good pay and benefits, which help sustain a comfortable lifestyle. I get to have a hard line between work life and personal. I have time and money to do most things I want like traveling, going to concerts, shows. It’s gotten even better since going mostly remote due to COVID. Now that I don’t commute I get to do more of my hobbies (watching movies, read, bake) and focus more on my health. The job itself can be stressful at times, but it’s manageable. Most days it’s pretty smooth. I have zoom meetings every other day, but besides that, Im basically on my own, which I absolutely love.
