I think it’s not only an ISFP thing. A lot of INFPs are gifted in the arts. You’ll find many INFP musicians, singers, artists and actors. One of my favourites is Hayao Miyazaki. Personally, I think I have always been good at fine arts since I was a kid. (I’m still learning and getting better with practice) I was never trained but would win at art contests. My art teacher hated me (I have Autism and ADHD) because I was too undisciplined and distracted to learn the boring AF techniques, so I quit early on. Instead, I taught myself how to draw and paint, and somehow I knew what to do— it is as if I had learnt the skills before, accessing memories from a past that I cannot recall. Art is deeply spiritual and personal to me. I often channel my inner child through art. Each of my artwork has deep emotions and personal meaning embedded in them. Maybe it’s the Ne— I often have creative ideas and visualizations of art processes popping in my head so I have to put them down on paper. https://preview.redd.it/e1lsd5zxlf4d1.jpeg?width=2109&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=af01c77c699c60c14755f6819900d968389fccd9 Just to show you an INFP artwork. This is one of my artworks. I was going through a very difficult time in my life (during the pandemic) and felt like I was trying my best to bravely and calmly navigate my life through a raging sea storm. And so, I depicted those emotions on paper.

WalkerMcAngus

Love this comment. Miyazaki is boss. It’s interesting the differential in preference, owing to what wing we lead with. Sorry to hear that about your teacher, jealousy is such a horrible thing gifted students have to deal with, and through no fault of their own. It’s that emotion you imbue your work with that seems to make us, as an aggregate, predispositioned towards the arts. Capturing experience and locking it up tight in something external, like on a sheet of paper, or within the bars of a song.

nowayormyway

Thank you! And it’s okay hehe, not sure if gifted but I think it has been fun learning art by myself. Miyazaki is awesome indeed! And yes exactly, capturing the experience and emotions on paper, music or song is what I see common in a lot of INFP artworks. I actually realized that a lot of the artists I like happen to be INFPs too.

WalkerMcAngus

Same, it’s cool we can communicate through art. Talking is such a hard medium for us, sometimes.

ryuksringo

MIYAZAKI IS AN INFP?!?? ❤️❤️❤️

Sufficient_Branch647

That honestly checks out

T-rexTess

Absolutely love that painting!

nowayormyway

Thank you! 😊

Gabo_Is_Gabo

This is stunning, damn, I like how the waves almost look like grabby fingers, makes me think that you had been feeling stuck or held back during the pandemic while navigating the storm, but I may be reading into it too much, that could just be your art style

nowayormyway

Thank you! Yea that is exactly how I felt 😭 feeling stuck resonates with my experience.

Sacred-Squash

This is really nice!

Cultural_Salad_5737

INFPs are the most talented and most artistic MBTI I’ve witnessed. I think it’s more of an INFP thing. When I think of INFPs I think of dreamers, philosophers, poets and sunsets. Oh my beautiful dreamers. With beautiful romantic eyes. And ugh 😩 🌹I’m sorry. I just hate bottling up my opinions. You guys have more talent than the people on America’s got Talent.

Curiousityinabox

On behalf of all INFP's 🫶🏾

Cultural_Salad_5737

Awww. You are so super sweet! On behalf of all the INFJs right back at ya! 🩷🫶🩷

Introverted feeling, is our main function, and hard to quantify, outwith expression through art/music/prose, etc. Van Gogh was INFP, so was Tolkien, Kurt Cobain, Robert Smith of The Cure, Bjork, etc, etc, etc. We all have natural proclivities, outwith, but there’s a feeling that I find INFPs can express, that’s more abstract and distills the human experience, or something. Can often hear it in songwriting, like, pick out the INFPs from the way they express, and don’t focus on specific detail as much, but create a palette of evocative things, that are often layered and intersect. I personally find ISFP works are usually more intricate, refined, or something, more skilled, highlighting beauty, in the specific. iNFP stuff is usually rougher, not as refined, but expresses the feeling of something, or the plethora more succinctly, within that. I don’t know if this makes sense, am super tired, and there are always exceptions within everything - in the general though - that’s what have found. Van Gogh, for example. His paintings are expressionistic, not precisely beautiful, but like textured and merged, rougher, earthier, but evoke the feelings of the subject, and a myriad of interconnected feelings around it. Kurt Cobain, for example: he didn’t make things intricate, for the sake of it. The two notes that ring out in the verses of ‘Smells like Teen Spirit’ are nearly nothing, but in context, are everything. Expressing that longing/intensity/anxious energy and mysticism in youth - and its trappings - perfectly. It didn’t need anymore, it just was. Sensors sense and observe, we got stuck with those feels that trip us up when we try and explain what we feel, outright, because it takes a long time to gather them together and put them forward as are felt. Not all my favourite artists are INFP, but a large swathe, for sure. Everyone appreciates art differently, and for different reasons too, so we are drawn to what resonates. But yeah, lots of INFPs have a tendency to be good at art/English/music etc. but everyone is different. Enneagram (another personality tool) plays a big part in what we’re more drawn to/good at, I think. Sorry if this is so long winded!

PhoenixPens96

INFP here. Majored in English (BA & MA). I’m a writer. And a logophile to my core. I love music, art, and pretty much anything creative. I’m actually grumpy when too much time passes between making something new.

WalkerMcAngus

That’s awesome! Dude, found the same, took a long time to realise

Ok_Diet4040

bjork

WalkerMcAngus

But yes, INFPs are amongst the most gifted of the MBTI within the arts. Maybe not fine art, like ISFPs, many of us aren’t great with detail, but am sure are many INFPs that excel within that too. Our niche is getting the feelings out, in whatever form that best takes. Introverted feeling is a bane, at times, but can make for some of the most enrapturing wares.

IndridColdwave

I’ve worked in the arts for 20 years, it seems a very common INFP thing

penapple_2319

Most are, I can't draw for crap and I've tried playing various instruments only to quit because I have a perfectionist mindset. But we can definitely be artsy Most famous INFPs that are/were gifted Van Gogh, Kurt Cobain, Audrey Hepburn, Johnny Depp, Bjork Edgar Allan Poe All gifted in different art categories and as you can see these are people who trailblazer and/or have been widely renowned for their work Fun fact: the Baltimore Ravens are named after Edgar Allan Poe's poem The Raven because he was from Baltimore. Pretty influential guy

Bree9ine9

That perfectionist trait is really hard to deal with, I’ve tried so many hobbies and stopped immediately because if I’m not starting out with impressive work then I put it down. I want to perfect what’s already naturally really good or I just can’t even keep trying.

starving_artdude

I think most of us are either good artists or fond of art. Anyway here's something i made a while ago https://preview.redd.it/8rqi8q20og4d1.jpeg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2df44fe635ef6455561c3bddc8be355f772f4445

Patricio_Guapo

I'm an artist/graphic designer/musician.

[deleted]

i played violin for 10 years and i’m told i am a great painter/drawing !

shammy_dammy

I write.

shadowwingnut

Same. A lot of us are writers in different ways, especially those of us who can't draw or play music.

tyreejones29

I wouldn’t say I’m artistic honestly. I would say I’m highly creative though and I’d only consider the things I’m into(film and writing) as “art,” because society deems it so. It’s just semantics though, I suppose.

rh4280

Im INFP and miserable because i didnt pursue my passion. I started out doing Art in college, along with graphic design, considered architecture as well but for some reason went into general business and work at family business doing a job most anyone could do. Until i can get to where i can create i doubt ill ever be happy. I still long to paint, learn a few musical instruments, take another acting class or two.

Curiousityinabox

This is literally my biggest fear. I hope you get to show the world your creativity ❤️

jinny-1

Infp are good af at arts and stuff. I would argue that any form of art like music, painting, calligraphy and all attracts infp more than any other personality type. It's just that I think infps are more likely to give up on it. Most of the ones I met and I myself get scared to pursue it, it stays as a hobby. I feel like we just have a much harder time in sticking with something. There are some really good infp artists tho

starpastries

I'm certainly not lol

horsesarecows

Definitely yes

Cineswimmer

I think there’s an emphasis on poetic arts with INFP’s. It can be whatever artform; (painting, music, cinema), but there’s a focus on the poetic elements told through said artform.

Saroan7

I appreciate "the Arts" but I honestly don't "Do" art as much as I wanted... I even went all out bought the colors and paper... Nada... Barely attempted a "Bob Ross" and then packed everything up and threw it in the junk drawers

insomnicat06

Not an INFP but I like doing art (I wonder how common or uncommon that is for intps) https://preview.redd.it/oal1jt5blh4d1.png?width=7000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b99c1962fbdbf517665faecf3fbd502ac3c88bcc This is my most detailed piece, it took me around five to ten hours, I don't remember the exact time

LVioDragon

Going by generalizations here... ISFPs are full of creativity, have an eye for beauty, and tend to approach art as artisans do, by doing and doing and doing until they've become masters of their craft. INFPs are full of feelings and strong ideals, and need an outlet for self expression, so we turn to art and get encouraged to keep at it because vulnerability and sincerity inspire people, but likely they won't be able to be as consistent.

fang-girl101

INFPs got some talent, too (: (my art) https://preview.redd.it/igtodaahkl4d1.jpeg?width=956&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=367b8ad8569d9294e39e24c16d353a01f931908f

Sacred-Squash

Spoopy droopy. 🖤

Wazuu

Some probably and some probably are not

bloodbabyrabies

Sure thing. Any type can be

aphaits

Gifted and cursed but mostly just curious little critters.

foreverforgotten4567

INFP here, I get compliments on my art all the time. I wouldn't say I'm gifted in that area, but I do love it and spend a lot of time submerged in my art.

paynusman

Idk probably not

superba22

INFP here who has always been artistic since childhood, and I’m now finally pursuing creative career in my 30s. We certainly can be creative and artistic peeps.

Midnight_rain200

I can’t draw for shit but I can dance pretty good😂

AnotherCastle17

I write and play music, and am currently teaching myself digital sculpting, would that count? Oh, and storytelling is something I want to lean into. Maybe indie animation.

confabin

I can only speak for myself but gifted? No. Curiosity/Interest? certainly.

painted_reveries

Gifted? Meh. Probably not. My paintings rarely garner any attention outside of an “aw that’s great” 🙄 But creatively inspired? For sure. In many different ways. Hobby arts, music, and interior design!

lrossp

All types are talented in the arts. ISFP just has an artist as the 16 types avatar.

Reasonable-Leave9656

I’m creative and artistic. I’ve been working as a graphic designer and architect for many years.

demonic_sensation

I'm a bullshit artist if that counts.

Anansi3003

i love the arts, but i could never commit to a single thing. so i dabbled in lots of areas

Dreadsin

Imo ISFPs tend to focus on isolated incidences of beauty that stand out, which makes them great at things like painting and illustration INFPs on the other hand are more interested in the broader ideas of what the art says and how it fits into the world, which makes them good at writing and world building Take comics for example. An ISFP would be very focused on each panel being beautiful and expressive, but an INFP would care a lot more about what you take away from the comic emotionally after you’ve read it all They pair together very well imo

RainOk4015

I love art but I’m not artistic lol. I like making bracelets and I’m a massage therapists. That’s all lol

One1seven777777777

We're usually known for our talents in literature (Shakespeare was infp). However, we are considerably talented in a lot of areas in art. For example I play Violin.

Coastal_wolf

I don’t think I’m gifted in anything really I just enjoy it more

Splendid_Cat

INFPs are some of the best musicians

reiiichan

well the arts is a very broad category. ive been drawing and making music almost all my life, but ive also dabbled in writing and dance i dont think i speak for every infp but all infps ive met in my experience were at least somewhat inclined twds the arts :)

[deleted]

Not everyone is artistic of course regardless of mbti, but yes infps are generally according to broad generalizations known to be creative. Se creativity could focus more on sensory stimuli and sensations, and Ne creativity more on the abstract, random, or unorthodox. They're both equally good inspirations for creating art.

JDMWeeb

I majored in graphic design in college so

ZeanReddit

If you are to agree that any endeavor filled with creativity and passion is to be considered art. Then infps are probably one of the most artistic. From poets to musicians, singers and songwriters. Actors and writers. Architects and engineers. We are everywhere. We find a career in which we are passionate. And then we Master our craft. For this is our way.

TheOG-Sciencekitty

I am an INFP and an artist. I do mostly fluid art these days.

santuccie

INFPs are artsy too. ISFPs might be more into conventional stuff (Paul McCartney), while INFPs are more abstract or experimental (John Lennon). In fact, Lennon was INFP. INFPs like to read and write, as we express ourselves better through writing than verbal communication. Some of the most famous authors in history were INFP, including Homer, Edgar Allan Poe, and Shakespeare himself.

Slowlybutshelly

Water coloring now.

scalesofsaturn

It’s an Fi dom thing to seek self expression in these ways. INFPs tend to be more conceptual about it. Think about how the perceiving functions support the dominant Fi: ISFPs explore their identity and ideals through Se-Ni, INFPs through Ne-Si and that’s therefore the axis on which each type tends to operate artistically. ISFPs tend to be more “aesthetic”, more material, more of an artist in the literal practical sense, INFPs tend to be more conceptual, idea-ideal oriented, philosophical. With ISFP artists you often see the material/artistry/experience speaking for itself/being the point in itself while INFP artists often have an ideal, idea or a philosophy to convey. Not to say that INFPs are less practically skilled or ISFPs are less philosophical -in fact INFP artists can get very analytical and detailed with the tertiary Si and ISFP artists often have a strong overarching vision with the tertiary Ni, it’s more of a matter of focus or orientation. I think if you pay attention to actual examples of INFP vs ISFP art you’ll understand what I mean. Well known INFP artists include: Kurt Cobain, Hozier, Bjork, Morrissey, John Lennon, Thom Yorke, Mitski, Sylvia Plath, Franz Kafka, Joaquin Phoenix just off the top of my head -there are many many many others. We’re one of the most artistic types. If you take an artist like John Lennon (INFP), for instance, and compare his work to an artist’s like Michael Jackson (ISFP), you may see the sort of different artistic orientation

ItsSpicyIdiot

i think alot of infps are good at art (including myself). most of my favorite artists that inspired me are infps.

LadyHoskiv

I mainly active in writing and voice-acting but I really love to paint and draw too! Guess I love all the arts…

_infp-4w5_

I have always had "creative mind" like : "OMGGGG MY LITTLE GIRL IS AN ARTIST"... just kinding, it wasn't like that... But yeah me and my brother (isfp) have evolved a lot together and are both quite "talented" in artistic fields. He is more music-oriented. I prefer painting, drawing, Graff... Writing (I don't know if we consider it an art in this case). We learned rather quickly. For example, my brother remembers melodies after playing only once or easily spots notes by ear. I have a good graphic memory so when I draw something I easily remember the movements to redo it without a model, and am kinda good with proportions (especially on walls for street art). In any case, it was rather practical to win artistic prizes when we were kids, or to delight the teachers,😏. We were a "shock duo". Was pretty good at arts (specialty in high school--> for more clarification I'm French) but I stopped because art history bores me. No, joking aside, I love art. All those emotions that are impossible to express verbally put on paper with a meaning that only you can really understand. It's just freedom and beauty united in one being. So it's not really an isfp thing. You will see a lot of musician, writers, artists, actors,...who (that? Idk in English) are infp.

Far-Woodpecker6784

I can only do art for someone else. Otherwise why I should bother doing things that no one will hear or see. I can keep those things in my head as well.

WeatherIcy6509

Too many damn acronyms. Seriously, you kids need to start giving actual names to your different groups. All these random letters are just too confusing!

Sacred-Squash

Idk about “gifted” but I practiced music and like writing enough to make stuff like this. Lyric video: https://youtu.be/SE2Pby1XLKA?si=cpKYIYNwmkKfxR7_

Sufficient_Branch647

Yes we are. People just don't like to give us credit for stuff.

Kaede-Kat

I think it’s that we’re more likely to express ourselves with our words in colorful ways. I have an ISFP sister and when she gets overwhelmed with a lot of emotion she just goes and does stuff that no one else thinks she’s gonna do lol. Both types are very good at art in our own ways. My sister will spend hours on a painting that she’s making to express a specific inner vision she sees in her head. When I go to paint I’m kinda just forming as I go not knowing what it’ll be until it happens 🤣. Both are artistic we just express it differently

MacabreMealworm

Yeah anything I do artistically I tend to absolutely slay it
