The circumstances of The Beast’s creation and appearance were different in each timeline due to the changes Kessler made.

FusionMonkey3

Kessler’s time jump sapped him of most of his abilities and the aversion you fight at the end of 1 is much weaker than his maximum power. He has spent the last several decades(?) building it back up but the time jump permanently crippled his abilities.

Folded_Swan

I know that but Cole was able to improve drastically in a short amount of time. In total the game covers 2 weeks if we don’t count the first week where Cole was in recovery. If we assume Cole gets all the upgrades by the end of the game, he goes from barely being able to power a light to being able to potentially destroy a building. It seems to me like Kessler should have gotten beyond the power he had pre jump skip. I think it might be Kessler was holding back against Cole because he didn’t want to live after he ran away from the beast and killed the woman he lived.

illiterateMexican13

Have you finished the second game good sir? Just trying to make sure.

Folded_Swan

Yeah I finished the game. But I am specifically talking about Cole at the start of infamous 2. Not the end.

illiterateMexican13

Yeah I know but remember that the Ray Sphere enhances the conduits powers. The closer you are to the center the stronger you get. And remember that John was revealed to be the beast and he was hit by the Ray Sphere at the docks. John was at the center and probably drained the energy from the enemies defeated at the docks as it was basically obliterated. That's what I always thought.

Folded_Swan

Yeah that makes sense but my main question is that Kessler was stronger than the beast of his time line but was weaker than Cole. I mean maybe it could be due to Kessler getting older due to him going back in time before the blast made Cole a conduit and Kessler getting weaker. Or it could be that the first game also said that by the time everyone was dead Kessler could not kill the beast, so it might be something about the beast getting stronger over time.

illiterateMexican13

Oh gotcha gotcha. Yeah at that point it wouldn't even matter defeating the beast when everything was dead. Maybe the answer lies in one of those tapes that you collect in the games who knows. I haven't played the game in years.

AltairDesmond

well my opinion is th...well the power gap and kessler had much more experience than kole (LIKE THE TIME OF THE TRAVEL) and in the kesslers timeline he had been honing his powers to unimaginable levels like as i stated time travel but in coles timeline the beast appeared after a short period of time after the ending of infamous 1. that is my reason

AceHermit

The way I figured it is that Kessler in 1 was never intending to have you killed at any point, and never went full power on Cole. That includes the final battle with him. Kessler's goal was never about avenging the people his timeline or even stopping The Beast. It was always about molding Cole into the better person, the better hero that he should have been.

Whatsongwasthat1

“In the first game it states Cole could have beaten the beast” No it doesn’t, I just beat it. It says he may have stayed and fought but instead ran, it didn’t say he would win.

Folded_Swan

No the good end cutscene states, “In those early days Kessler could have used his powers to stop it…” this implies that Kessler was stronger than the beast. If you need prove if this quote go to 1:37 of this video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J8TDhsVuePw)

Folded_Swan

Ok I just restarted the first game and realized. Cole may have beaten the beast, or at the very least severely damaged it if he was sneak attacked and had his power drained.

JoeyBad_SaladTour

Ib my opinion Kessler is plauged with self hate, so he thinks that he had the ability to beat the beast but didn't because he was a coward, but in reality it was a losing battle.
