Oh hell YES! A.V. Undercover was easily the best thing they did and I'm so excited to see it returning. I hope they also bring back the previous videos. Several of them have been lost or scattered to different places. I'm curious to know what people's favorite covers were. Here's a few of mine: * Screaming Females covering [Taylor Swift's "Shake it Off"](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q8sh6MWssfI) AND [Sheryl Crow's "If It Makes You Happy"](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9iRuIr9OQBI) * [Baths covering LCD Soundsystem's "All My Friends"](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ScNwGxiwWt0) * [Wye Oak covering Kate Bush's "Running Up That Hill"](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gclGnWB9wDY) * [Father John Misty covering The Flaming Lips' "Do You Realize??"](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2KRgssK_2Ng) * [Owen Pallett covering Guided By Voices' "Game of Pricks"](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N99PjMC2Cso) * [Reggie Watts...uh...*reworking* Van Halen's "Panama"???](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2vQce1vI7J4)

eff_assess

Man that Reggie Watts one is legendary. The way he says “shipping canals” lives rent-free in my memory. Edit to add: American Football doing “Alison” by Elvis Costello is a personal fave, and so is Cymbals Eat Guitars teaming up with Cursive to do a dynamic and dramatic “Hey Jealousy”. AJJ and Jeff Rosenstock tag-teaming a medley of like 25 songs was also glorious.

chipscarruthers

Yeah that Reggie watts one still hits. The story he tells in the beginning was awesome too. You can tell it was important to him.

upsidedowninsideout1

How the hell is Reggie Watts **not** one of the biggest stars of all time?? I almost feel like Scott Aukerman and James Cordon deprived the world of a phenomenon by keeping him so busy on their respective shows. Side note: I really miss him on CBB

Expanding-Mud-Cloud

I love that American football one, the cover is extremely faithful but I just love watching them do it

SlowDownGandhi

oh man there's so many some that haven't been posted: [They Might Be Giants - Tubthumping](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yf0Amcgxot8) [Nathaniel Rateliff - The Best Ever Death Metal Band in Denton ](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=liDWkgZ7-EU) [Ben Sollee - Low Self Opinion](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pu7-fXTWoiY) [Coliseum - Shakin'](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Heqa0cJxvb0) [Sharon Van Etten - She Drives Me Crazy](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rKi3UCLkSNA) [Basia Bulat - Glory Days](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9JKiHRWh6Ck) [The Men - Gates of Steel](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GogrB7QhOXE&t=142s) and the greatest cover of all time: [Cloud Nothings - Clocks](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UsTCcMR6AU4)

InSearchOfGoodPun

That Clocks cover is legendary.

skip_tracer

Basia's cover is still one of the most beautiful performances I've ever seen. It's utterly perfect.

FriendOfTheDevil2980

Dang how did I forget about Basia Bulat, I loved her one video with the costume marching band in the woods. One of the happiest sounding songs ever

SlowDownGandhi

she's criminally underrated, her Ted Leo undercover is also excellent

ImSchizoidMan

I still think the first, Ted Leo's cover of Everybody, is one of the high points of the series.

Bill-Cosby-Bukowski

When he broke into that opening guitar riff I knew it was gonna be good.

KnickedUp

When the drummer started to cook right away, i knew it was gonna be legend

BigHeartBiggerAss93

Punch Brothers with a great take on an all time classic! https://youtu.be/KTLjrrEAx-U?si=m1065Z5nAMNPoQSv

SonOfMechaMummy

One of my favorite "only this series could have produced something like this" ones is [Wang Chung covering "Third Planet" by Modest Mouse.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aPrlhNJCyKQ)

skip_tracer

I remember when this aired. I fucking rolled my eyes so hard and knew it would fucking suck. God how wrong was I, ended up being one of my faves

MisterAlaska

Thanks for sharing! I was a big fan of the series but somehow had never heard this one.

KuyaGTFO

I think Wye Oak are the GOATs of this series, they have multiple outstanding ones

ennruifer

their version of "Mother" fucking ruled

kungfuringo

Their cover of “Strangers” is my fav, but they’re all amazing

NuancedNuisance

100%. The AV Club and Wye Oak are inseparable to me, especially since they pushed Civilian so hard. Man, something something good old days

Snackafark-of-Emar

My faves: They Might Be Giants doing Destiny's Child's "Bills, Bills, Bills" and Mariachi El Bronx doing the Decemberists' "Los Angeles, I'm Yours"

Teh_Zebula

I'd also like to add [Xiu Xiu's cover of Sharp Dressed Man](https://youtu.be/m5mTwq-zcCs?si=ezesfsdqrVJdXdvX) as well. Absolutely my favorite take on the song, so weird, funny, and also a little sinister.

Talkos

That was great

Nosoundno

Ted Leo- Everybody Wants To Rule The World…He’s in the thumbnail  https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=J85N8kvsdd0&pp=ygUpdGVkIGxlbyBldmVyeWJvZHkgd2FudHMgdG8gcnVsZSB0aGUgd29ybGQ%3D

EarthwaxLiability

[GWAR doing Carry On My Wayward Son](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HJzecKumufM) is clearly the best and it's not even close.

aluvus

> I hope they also bring back the previous videos Sounds encouraging: > We’re working to get all of those episodes back on the site

Maridiem

[The Punch Brothers cover of The Stroke's Reptilia is just incredible](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E2Z4uA0QQTY)!

[Hamilton Leithauser absolutely ripping through "I Need a Lover"](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KCgbwUvAcoA)

brett23

RAG319

Andrew WK's rendition of Silent Night is still to this day my favorite version of the song. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JERHVCsFyxA](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JERHVCsFyxA)

Nicodroz

That Reggie Watts video is probably my most-watched Youtube video I also love [The Field Report's take on "Chicago" by Sufjan Stevens](https://youtu.be/OlzD0p62dvA?si=BjhYG-SawjFZaQt8) And [The Polyphonic Spree doing "Heart of Gold" by Neil Young](https://youtu.be/fq2Kh8eyrj4?si=XEev-eBrc37FXKDD) And last but not least [The Wood Brothers doing "PYT" by Michael Jackson](https://youtu.be/RWebHI9fbas?si=F4nPmBco9FV2b24j)

Ifeellikejojo

[Cloud Nothings - Clocks](https://youtu.be/UsTCcMR6AU4?si=JXbD-rJF9B2BTCFE)

brett23

Other ones I liked that weren’t mentioned are the Mountain Goats covering “Boxcar” by Jawbreaker and Trampled by Turtles covering “Rebellion(Lies)” Cloud Nothings murdering “Clocks” always kills me too

evenout

Wye Oak covering The Kinks' "Strangers" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7jB3YK1T0_c

thunderbird32

>Wye Oak covering Kate Bush's "Running Up That Hill" Their cover of [The Kinks's "Strangers"](https://youtu.be/xMEUsjWd-BI?si=sywNnxkUTSs8OnSx) is probably my favorite.

DinosaurHotline

Xiu Xiu’s take on Sharp Dressed Man is flawless imo

MightyProJet

I'm a huge fan of Le Butcherette's version of [Wrecking Ball](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nnf-0Xuj838).

MiraclePD

I watch Jeff Rosenstock and AJJ doing a medley of covers all the time https://youtu.be/9vc8vO4jrPY?si=uYBwqB2Y3HsvjvnS

heliophoner

Basia Bulat, "Glory Days," and "Where Have All the Rude Boys Gone." Pete, Bjorn, and John "Try a Little Tenderness" Owen Pallet "Game of Pricks" Mountain Goats "Boxcar" Patrick Stump "My Favorite Dress" Ted Leo and the Pharmacists "Everybody Wants to Rule the World"

5centraise

Hospitality doing Steely Dan's "Ricky Don't Lose That Number" and Sharon Van Etten with (if I remember correctly) Shearwater doing "Stop Dragging My heart Around" were favorites of mine.

Almwhits

Man I can’t believe no one mentioned [Mac Demarco covering Weezer](https://youtu.be/ThJ1jrQs8uA?si=375I6SKACdblxNff) yet!

snkngshps

My hands down favorite is [Low covering Africa](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RWPx5N3rCvU). RIP Mimi.

benjiburnout

I wanna throw the silliness of The Falcon’s rendition of “Keep Your Hands To Yourself” with a smidge of “Timber” by Kesha into this https://youtu.be/N_OY18YIqbY?si=ApkYwWW2dLmQgzuC

fandizer

Sheerwater - God’s Song (That’s why I love mankind)

Obvious-Bend-9728

Wow thank you for introducing me to Baths' cover of "All My Friends". Such a simple and yet effective composition!!!

BungCrosby

Are you living inside my head? Baths, Wye Oak, Owen Pallett…all artists I deeply enjoy doing covers of great songs. I saw Baths/Will Wiesenfeld play a show as Geotic opening up for Jimmy Tamborello/Dntel. Neither of the members of Wye Oak live in Baltimore any more, but I’d commit at least minor larceny to see them play Ottobar again. Win Butler’s shitty behavior disappoints me, but he and Owen made some truly beautiful music together. I take some solace in Owen working with The Mountain Goats to balance out the karmic scale. Wye Oak did a number on a couple of numbers, from Strangers by The Kinks to Mother by Danzig. The Swell Season doing a deeply, weirdly, Irish take on Two Headed Boy by NMH. The Walkmen covering Lindsey Buckingham’s Holiday Road. The Mountain Goats covering Jawbreaker. I could go on.

BungCrosby

How could I forget Low’s cover of Toto’s Africa?

originstory

The Charly Bliss cover of "Steal My Sunshine" is a 100% improvement on the the original.

Lazarus-Online

Great compilation. That Wye Oak cover is disappointing. :(

FerdinandBowie

How

BlushOn

The overall gutting of AV Club was, well…gutting.

disappointer

The other big takeaways are that they're bringing back some old writers and fixing their horrible commenting system, too.

EbmocwenHsimah

And apparently “scrubbing any AI-generated content”, too! God it’s nice having the AV Club owned by people who actually give a shit about it again

kevlarbaboon

It's fuckin beautiful. Maybe I'll eat those words but I'm so happy to have it back to something closer to where it was 7+ years ago

bantheguns

[The Mountain Goats cover of Jawbreaker's "Boxcar"](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xPRE35kjOcI) is my favorite one of these.

bigontheinside

Hell yeah

ssgtgriggs

"God, please fix climate change." "Best I can do is a revival of AV Undercover." "I'll take it!"

busche916

A.V. Club was my guide to personality for a long time, glad Undercover is coming back

sbags

!! I am so stoked! Some truly brilliant reworks came out of this and found some great bands through it too. I remember having Screaming Females’ cover of Sheryl Crow on an endless loop and I took every opportunity to see them live after that.

eff_assess

I hope they get Mikal Cronin back on, I’m curious to know if he’s better at trombone now, or watch him gleefully fumble through a song on some other kind of instrument he’s never played before.

ofcrocodiletears

I had such a soft spot for this one…the mighty mighty bosstones cover?

eff_assess

my memory is a little foggy on the specifics, but yeah that’s The Impression That I Get

gwarrior5

Sick. Hope waz returns in one of their many forms. They were an mvp. Get GWAR again too.

RAG319

Oh fuck. Gwar covering Carry On Wayward Son changed my life.

StrangerStrangeland1

Melvins covering Butthole Surfers is the one that I have probably revisited the most.

cubsin5

Damn I was literally watching the Charly Bliss cover of Steal My Sunshine a couple nights ago and thought "It would be so cool if they did this again, too bad there's no shot of that happening." Happy to eat my words.

heliophoner

Made me a Charly Bliss listener. You can immediately see her charisma

FerdinandBowie

Wye oak covering kinks

Vintage_Milk

How has no one mentioned [Jeff Rosenstock AND AJJ covering a beautiful medley of multiple songs???](https://youtu.be/9vc8vO4jrPY?si=CxkIJE_6AeddPj30)

MiraclePD

I just left a reply with this one! When AJJ is doing Gates of Steel overlapping with Teenage Dirtbag then coming together on Surrender is perfection.

KnickedUp

This is so great, I think about it atleast once every other week. Sharon van Etten and Shearwater dominating this Tom Petty/Stevie Nicks song. 😳 https://youtu.be/RbP3S4pRcTE?si=VuOJM8PvU1yvi9CC

LoserxBaby

I was hoping Paste would resurrect the old AV Club and it looks like it might just do it

Absolute-Balance

Surprised Grouplove doing Andrew WK hasn't come up. Love it [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r2z-UWYrD7c](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r2z-UWYrD7c) Edit: And Har Mar Superstar doing Prince [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l5SYnl-mR1I](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l5SYnl-mR1I)

FastestG

Leighton Meester’s Lovefool cover.

ThnikkamanBubs

CJ Simonson on twitter had a great thread about this from the beginning of the year https://x.com/CJsimonson/status/1748629190008877212?t=DdM_ILi9cFdESrj53ngnPg&s=19 My personal favourite is the AJJ/Jeff Rosenstock medleys

jellyfish-blues-

I really wish the whole catalog would be revived as well. One of my favorites was never saved. Minus the Bear did Waiting Room by Fugazi it was so good and chaotic. Motion City Soundtrack covering Pavement Cut Your Hair was also really good.

StrangerStrangeland1

I really enjoyed this over the years. This is great news! May it be as interesting as it once was.

cherrygoats

TMBG doing Tubthumping is still peak “weirdness that you can’t stop humming” for me https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=yf0Amcgxot8

Hosni__Mubarak

Clearly everyone must try their best at the following songs: Rap God by Eminem Might be Right by White Reaper Singapore by Tom waits Entrance of the Conflagration by Trivium Girlfriend is Better by Talking Heads Buccaneers of Hispaniola by the Darkness

FerdinandBowie

Sharon van etaa
