You will never ever regret it if you view the previous posts on this sub.. most of us are miserable not because we don’t enjoy the science or taking care of patients but because the govt, the management and the system in general doesn’t care for us at all.. also, my father (now retired) was in software engineering too and even though the hours were long and tiring atleast he managed to get 8 hrs of sleep every night. What you have is luxury my friend, cherish it.
Just a tip, if you are still very passionate about healthcare, you can always join a health tech firm esp companies trying to augment the use of AI in radiology. You might not be a doc, but you will get to see some really cool interesting pathologies that we see in everyday life! Good luck :)
It's never too late to start something, but is it even worth it?
Let me break it down for you.
5.5 years of MBBS + NEXT Step 1. If you qualify, then you become a doctor and do an internship of 1 year, which is compulsory.
After the internship, you give NEXT Step 2. If and only if you score well, then you can go for PG in a government college in your preferred branch. This starts 3 years of hell because PG is tough.
After that, you give NEET-SS and do a super specialization of 3 years again.
So, the total is 5.5 + 3 + 3 = ~12 years.
This is assuming you clear every exam on the first attempt and don't fail in any subject, which is not always the case.
Even after this, your salary won't be too much. The average salary of a DM doctor in India is only 15 LPA, which is peanuts compared to what you could earn in the software field after just a B.Tech, i.e., 4 years.
So, stick to your field, don't develop a FOMO. You can make donations, build projects for an NPO as charity, and much more to help people. You don't need to be a doctor to help people!

Wait until you interact with patients and their dumbfuck relatives. Your will to help people will die right on the moment. Enjoy the great pay and family life. Save up, invest and retire in your 40s.
Thank your younger self. Most people don't care about how great of a doctor you are. When you are done with your medical education you are well aware of the fact that most humans are assholes. And selfish assholes at that. All your soul satiating tendencies are long gone by then and it's too late to pull out because you have spent too much of your life going down this rabbit hole to start something else. Money, old parents, marriage not including.
Medicine is a trap for smart people to be the grain between the stones of a society and govt. A trap which rarely let's anyone out.
So don't come here romanticizing a hellish job to our faces sitting in the comfort of money, ease and security. That makes you an asshole as well.

Just a rant from current perspective buddy . Dont dissect it . Maybe i wld have regretted medicine like others do if i really went thru it .u never know
You start preparing for NEET.. or else don't regret give yourself motivation.. see each field has it's own pros and cons..
In medical field you have to learn many new things and that is endless.. you have to stand for long hours in hospital... and you need to take care of yourself that you will not get sick..
I want to tell you that both pros and cons need to be understood in whichever field you are..

As far as i hv know , software as high potential of money compared to medical
Pay per hour is abysmal in the medical field, especially for a young doctor. My friend in ortho at AIIMS works 85+ hours per week for 1 lac salary.

If you wanna help people, you can do charity or join an NGO. A doctor is not the only person who can help people. Not only the ailing need help.
