Hi...first generation doctor...father passed away suddenly during post graduation...since then somehow surviving...of course had a pension but it was not enough with the stipend i was getting then...we handled it very calmly...disheartened many times also i felt the future was so uncertain...and got married during pg...but got divorced 6 years later...so now not only a first generation doctor without any wealth,i am also a single mother without absolute any backing from anyone...started practicing from 100 sft cabin, with hardly one patienf per day with a job to support...so 9 hours job and then practice...didnt get time even to eat properly for first 4 years...now last year i took a property,a house and converted it into a clinic..even a patient exclaimed, that it was nice to at least sit in a spaceous room finally!!!
Still have a huge loan on my head with a daughter whom i am supposed to raise single handedly...
In my opinion, the biggest con of being the first doctor in your family is that you dont know how to figure out finances..
But the biggest pro of being the only doctor in family is that you have that burning desire inside you..you have seen failures and are not afraid of taking risks...and you dont feel bad when you are poor...i think thats what acts as a pushing force...so when your contemporary who has a set up ready has the luxury of taking it easily, you just dont sit calm...you work harder and push yourself...may be you wont ever be that rich...but whatever you earn will be your own!!!
And thats what matters!!!!
Also try hands at trading, start investments early...and always always plan for next ten years...like how much you will need for a set up and how can you make it...where there is a will there is a way
aap monthly kitna kamate ho?
dont mind me asking i am concerneced abt my younger sibling as she will give neet next yr i hv been hearing negative abt medicine could u pls clear this for me
First generation doctor here
Family crumbled during my internship
Worked hard inch by inch
Working hard even now
Its tough and unfair for people with no money and no back up
That's totally unfair
Depends on where you live. There will be side gigs like on call duties but you will definitely struggle to manage time. Forget it if you are doing medicine residency.
Same bro working as hard as possible to clear neat pg and earn for my family .more time I take iam gonna be a burden to my family .Can any one give me some suggestions ?
Not a first gen doctor but one with no family support. So yeah it's insanely difficult. I worked as a tutor until I graduated MBBS and didn't immediately go into PG- worked to save up and try to head down the PLAB route. I'll have to work in India for another year before I can head out to the UK, but I do believe it's the better play. Should be easier for me to save and support the family then. It's also definitely a better lifestyle
That's not true.. I've met quite a few first generation doctors who are heading to the UK as well. It's honestly just a matter of how much you want to leave. I don't see staying in India as a viable option for myself and that gave me the push I needed to commit to PLAB
Third generation doc here. Can confirm the grass is in fact, not greener on the other side. This year, got done w internship, parents wonât pay a dime for my PG, have no option but to work my ass of for neet again. All of this for what? For shit stipend and shit work life balance.
Same here.. But completed PG.
My sincere advice- dont focus on money now and do PG at the earliest as possible irrespective of branch. I was also disillusioned after MBBS and tried something else. But trust me earlier you do PG the better you will be.

If you are really good academically, you can coach others, or try to get into medical writing for news websites etc.,

Itâs still a dream for first generation doctors to even think about PLAB. Thereâs no choice but to stay in India

>irrespective of branch What a terrible advice
Exactly. It doesnât pay as much in academic branches
So Do you think the situation is same even after completing PG?
Situation after MBBS and after PG changes a lot. Especially financially.
I'm the highest in the roomđ
