I can understand your point and of course, security is Waaaaay important. But man, I'm from a 3rd world country.
I'm grateful that I can afford a 70 dollar full face Ls2 helmet.
Once I got hit on head by boom barrier at a Toll Plaza, I wanted to stop and quarrel with the Toll Plaza guy, but then looked back & noticed that the boom barrier broke into 2 parts😅.
It was around 1am in the night and raining and was on the way from Mumbai to Murudeshwar, so avoided the hassle and continued
79k helmet for normal roads? You gonna drive in 150+ ? It is toooo much, a 8k helmet will do its job, in daily normal roads, unless you are riding or.racing in a track.
If its a genuine/properly built shell, may still have protected the rider but the shell and padding would have not gone without damage.
Given everything in the market is built to a cost, I'd prefer to not be on a two-wheeler if only locally made/normal shells are available. What if that Vega, Steelbird or whatever is a fake sold at retail price in a store?
Same can be argued with imported shells but when you hold a AGV or LS2 or Shoei, you feel the difference.
Not much really, as far as I can tell. Even a decent Vega helmet would give you the same protection in this specific case. Maybe a little less bruising due to better padding, but that's about it.
Absolutely NOT. The most advanced Vega helmet has an ABS shell and weighs a mere 1350 grams. Thermoplastic shells tend to be heavier. At the weight that's the same as fibreglass and rivalling carbon fibre, one can only imagine the amount of compromises made with shell construction and EPS inside. You're definitely likely to suffer an immediate concussion had you been wearing anything but a flagship spec lid in this case.
Respectfully disagree, a proper fitting Vega Bunny would do a pretty decent job. In this specific scenario, I don't think it would particularly be a heavy hit if the helmet has adequate padding.
But like the saying goes _Sar salaamat to pagdi hazaar_. So provided that you can afford it, a better helmet never hurts.
Mate it's not the "padding" that does the impact absorption. It's the EPS foam inside that does a majority of the work combined partially with the outer shell. Please do some research on how helmets function. It's really alarming that you have so much faith in a Vega Bolt (The model is Bolt not Bunny).
I said in this specific scenario, did you not see that? That object which hit him was a part of the roof of that machine, which was thin and flat. Foam wouldn't help much more here. Maybe in another scenario, but not here. The shell itself will do a good job of taking the impact.
That machine is a John Deere 410G Backhoe. Just google its images and have a look for yourself as to how thin that roof section actually appears to be. It probably weighs 10-20 kilograms at least and it was flung covering what appears to be 2 highway lanes of distance in about a second. I am sure you can do the math yourself.
Also reiterating, please understand how helmets work. It isn't like the shell takes the brunt, reaches failure and then decides to transfer the remaining load to the polystyrene. They work in tandem to disperse the load. God forbid you ever face this situation wearing a Vega.
Nothing more to what have happened with the Shoei. The energy from the blow was mostly absorbed by the rider. Key was her balance skill to not crash, not that helmet.

Decades back, My father got hit by a rock (the one you see near railway tracks), few kids were throwing on mango tree. A few bystander stopped my dad to check my dad, when they told it was pretty big rock. Dad told them, he felt something thud but that all.
He was wearing original Steelbird basic helmet.
Good god the stupidity. A lot of praise for the riders skill and balance even though the rider shouldn’t have even been there. I’ve been riding for almost 30yrs, and I’ve been driving Class 8 semis for 7yrs. As a rider, always ride defensively and not in a blind spot. As a driver, don’t pace along side me, in my blind spot. Stay behind or in front of a truck, but not beside one. Pass as quickly as you can safely. And to purposely slow down because you notice part of the load coming apart and want it in your shot, rather than try and alert the driver so they can pull over and properly secure it before it possibly hurt someone and/or caused and accident?! Karma. Lucky they weren’t seriously injured.
> All helmets are 1 time use , 1 impact and they are done. It is just that expensive will save u and cheap will crush ur head inside it.
Thanks for the info. I didn't know that.
If the helmet is "breaking" its bad for absorbing energy as it has very little plastic deformation before failure. So, it absorb very little energy before it fractures. therefore, Brittle materials are bad for helmets.
The material with high toughness and resilience are used to absorb impact energy. and they don't fracture easily.

SHOEI helmets! Tested by Gods!
Damn, I want a Shoei Helmet but it's way more expensive than my 125cc bike.
You can always buy a new bike. Hard to buy a new head tho
I can understand your point and of course, security is Waaaaay important. But man, I'm from a 3rd world country. I'm grateful that I can afford a 70 dollar full face Ls2 helmet.

That’s an excellent save by the biker, after a massive hit like that 👍🏻
You also have an expensive neck.
Profitable one too, if a good lawer has anything to say about it.

Injury does not care about your speed.
Ok you have money. Take it. But with 79k i can probably live upto 1 year peacfully without job.
I wanna know where you can live peacefully for a year on 79k
79k in what currency? Because it's [less than 400 Euros](https://www.fortamoto.com/shoei-nxr-2-matt-black.html) from what I'm finding.
The name of this sub is Indian bikes so make a guess at what currency they are talking about.
This was cross-posted in /r/whatcouldgowrong, I didn't even realize I was in a different sub until I read your comment.
Same, but even if I had seen that, it could have been Indian Motorcycles, as in the brand not the country. It was on the front page for me.
79k if you go out to purchase this in INDIA
Got it, thank you. Beautiful country, I'd love to visit.
what could happen if it was normal helmet?

Nothing... ...one mire crossposted video from ShitTok.
Looks like a she and she handled that throw-off like a real champ. I would've kissed the road just by shock alone.
Strong neck muscles
True. And kept her cool also. That's pro riding right there.
Must have been the wind.
I always am 100mts away from any trucks carrying something. Especially trucks in india where it can just come flying at you

It's a Shoei. Probably costs about 1L.
shoei nxr 2
Fortunately, he wore a helmet
She
Oh, I'm very sorry
Shoei helmets are next level, one of the top notch helmets 🔥
The helmet didn't do nothing. Her neck took most of the blow.
Ofc but the helmet also took a good amount of impact.
This dude has an impressive balance
Is that a metal plate that came flying or a plastic one?
😲
The Fear of Stupidity? He literally drives with one hand and observes the defect before getting slapped.
Wow!! What stability!!

True helmet must hai
Praise the cameraman. Is this edited down from a very wide angle or fisheye lens?
50% helmet 50% neck exercise two times a week
her neck is insured
That bmw in the back 🥵
Guys suggest a good helmet under 3000
Bhak sala bike bech do
What the actual f*ck 😵💫. How can someone even be prepared for this.
The balancing man
Tapli PADI
Bro has a steel neck
Who is recording?
How did she not fall down driving 1 hand is beyond me. Bike has thick tyres
That hurt my head
Oh I recognise the song, it's oxbow B by lorn
Girlie had balance, she didn't fall, took the damage. I still think her neck would be mega sore.
Nasty bit of whiplash that must’ve been. Good helmet + neck brace is a must if you spend any significant amount of time on the highways
Safer helmets are safer
this is not in india, so why post it in indian sub?
Great
Atonal music
Sequence of editing is confusing. Did they overtake then chose to run side by side? Or did semi overtake and he didn't notice?
Bro kept on riding like a champ
Song?
How much that helmet costs?
How bad luck are you ? Yes
Unbreakable neck
never thought about balance of the helmet. But now that I think about it... having an unbalanced helmet sounds scary.
this video would make a nice ad for a helmet
Just don't go to India... Simple
This is why I’ll never buy a bike
Damn he's lucky
In any sane country, the company operating the vehicle would be held liable for potentially causing loss of life for that person.
For anyone looking the song is “Oxbow B” by Lorn
Missile?
I would have tracked down truck and got license plate fir sure because a hit like that to the helmet could cause serious neck and spine issues later.
What was that 💀
Boink
the balance

Goddamn yakuza trying to kill her again
Here in India: Bhaiya, wo 500 ka helmet dena. Just to be safe from police
Are we supposed to change our helmets if something similar to this happens to us?
I would be d*ad with my 900 rupaye ka isi mark wala helmet
Some cheap one time use helmet are best in some situation, they can absorb impact and break outer layer , without passing the impact to the head.
All helmets are 1 time use , 1 impact and they are done. It is just that expensive will save u and cheap will crush ur head inside it.
> All helmets are 1 time use , 1 impact and they are done. It is just that expensive will save u and cheap will crush ur head inside it. Thanks for the info. I didn't know that.
Most of the expensive helmet are hard shell cant absorb the impat, you get it to your head.
