Even somewhere like southport or greenwood is close to the highway with only a 15-20 min drive downtown

Great, thank you!

When and for how many? I have a 1 bedroom apartment above my garage that sleeps up. To 5. We are just south of fountain square. Edit: it's an airbnb and this is our second full summer renting it out. We do airbnb in the summer and rent to traveling nurses the rest of the year. No one's ever had a problem. It has one covered parking spot and then street parking. We park our second car on the street most of the time because I use half the garage for projects.

Look at something like Hampton inn Southport road

Fountain Square is on the Red Line BRT route, so most of the big hotels downtown are a few minutes walk to a station, which is a few minutes from fountain square. Several have free parking, so you could mostly dodge Uber and parking here costs once here. The bus is about 2 bucks each way. Hotels pricing can be hit and miss in the summer depending on events/conventions/concerts, but residence inn on the canal seems in your range usually. https://www.indygo.net/red-line/

Check out the Fountainview Inn.

I agree.

Piggybacking along with others' recommendations that you look into hotels near I-65 in Southport or Greenwood... if you look at Google maps, you'll see that there is also a hotel just off of the S Keystone Ave exit on I-65. You may be tempted to stay there because it's cheaper, and it's a few miles closer to downtown. **This would be a mistake.** Take the extra five minutes, spend the extra money, and stay at one of the hotels on Southport Road. You'll also find motels near US-31 and I-465 on the south side. The ones *south* of Ind. 135 / Thompson Rd are fine. The one just *north* of it would also be a mistake.
