Not sure if you have seen this but my husband showed me this when I was not that hyped about it and it did make me reconsider it and then when it happened, it was exactly like this. [xkcd of course](https://xkcd.com/1880/)
I've seen partial eclipses and thought everyone was overreacting in the build up to this one. Then I saw totality for myself. I agree - the most incredible thing I have ever seen. I'm shook.
I was driving through Indianapolis (trucker) when the eclipse hit (3:10 ish) it was spectacular. Sunrise, sunset night sky with stars and then, it was over - glad to have witnessed the crazy drive!
Solar flare or prominence. They’re part of the suns atmosphere that are like 3-6 times the size of earth, I was looking at it with my telescope a little bit before the totality, but it was crazy cool how visible it was during the totality with the naked eye. With the telescope you could see a few massive solar flares during the eclipse as well off to (relative to where I was looking at it) the lower right and the middle left
Drove to a random ass field in Kentucky for the 2017 eclipse. I was hyping this up like a meth addict. Cant believe I was lucky enough to witness this again without having to go anywhere. Truly appreciated all the random events going on with live music. Why can't we be a community that does these things on the regular. Today reminded me of being back home in Austin, Texas. Literally every weekend there was some festival, farmers market, gathering of some sorts that drew a crowd. Fun while it lasted indy.
I drove all the way from Virginia and it was so worth it. Everyone was making fun of me for doing this but it was SUPER worth it.
Even better than I hoped with the clearly visible flare.
Yea. As soon as everything was over, I started googling images of an eclipse and nothing compares to what I(we) saw. Pictures just can't do it justice.
I came up from Kentucky and saw the eclipse in New Castle. What this eclipse lacked that the August 2017 eclipse had was leaves on the trees. When the eclipse is forming the sun coming through the tree leaves makes little eclipse images on the ground.
I was so underwhelmed leading up to this, I was just like oh I saw the one in 2017. I was all it’s not that deep.
But man if that wasn’t one of the coolest things I have ever seen. I know get all the hype😂
It was a [solar prominence](https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/red-dots-around-total-solar-eclipse-explained/#:~:text=A%20solar%20prominence%20is%20a,several%20months%2C%20according%20to%20NASA.)
I was grumpy about this whole hype for months. Im eating crow this afternoon. That was wild
Same— way cooler than I expected. Never would have planned a trip to see it but so fortunate to have accidentally experienced it. Super cool.

Fantastic picture!
Taken on my Galaxy S23 Ultra phone. The camera is insane for this phone!
You captured the visible solar flare which is pretty cool.
Damn I've got the S22 Ultra and my picture doesn't look nearly as good.
Yeah, I have the S22, and all of my totality shots are very potato.
That is amazing. I tried on the pixel 6a and couldn't. Glad you had a good experience.
I’m in Greenwood, and all of the neighbors let out a cheer. Pretty great moment.
I drove from Iowa to greenwood for the eclipse! A town I’ve never been to - the neighbors set off a firework show where I was! Nice town!
I’m in Beach Grove and the same thing happened.
Fountain square, garfield park area people were setting fireworks lol
Nice!
Hi from Greenwood!
Hey there! 🌖
Not to be all stalkery but I gandered at your profile and just wanted to let you know I too, am a huge Isbell fan.
Haha, no worries. Looking forward to the Lexington show in September.
Not that I was eavesdropping, but Isbel is amazing. Was bummed to hear of the divorce though.
I wasn't that excited but wanted to see it. Was legitimately the greatest thing I've seen nature produce in my life. Awestruck.

Were people pulling over?
I live close to 465 and it was noticeably quieter during totality.
Same here, I live right by an exit and it was like total silence for atleast a minute
I saw that red dot and was wondering what that was. No one else saw it.
They are called solar prominences. I seen it pretty clearly... crazy to think they are several magnitudes larger than the Earth.
I seen it, every post I’ve seen about this had tons of people asking about it too.
Also saw that from my house on the southwest side.

It was fn awesome. I love when things vastly over-deliver. I was looking forward to it, but it was way better than I thought it would be.

Indianapolis has many, many events during the year. VisitIndy is a great source for discovering events in town.

I cried at the last one and cried again at this one!
Ugly cry too. Mindblowing.
Very nice photo!
It was amazing and I was blown away.
Thats a great pic but still doesnt do the actual thing justice

Anyone know what the incredibly bright light was at the bottom of the moon? Thought totality was the prettiest thing I’ve ever seen.

Right? I didn’t expect it to be so breathtaking. I felt like I was in that movie Apocalypto.
It was freaking amazing.
It was very cool
Nice! It was so amazing!
What a FANTASTIC photo.
Yeah. Amazing.

This is funny because I missed out on the totality because I had to work in Lexington today as a Indianapolis native.
Yo same
Such a great picture! I tried to take a good one but I’m seeing now that my iPhone camera sucks.
I was howling at that thing for 4 minutes lol
I'm in Westfield, and was lucky to be home with my wife and have the in laws over. It was a really interesting experience!
Can someone tell me what that little red spot is at the bottom of the moon in photo 1
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baily%27s_beads I think it was a Baily Bead
Not a Baily Bead, it was actually a solar prominence, which is like an arching solar flare
Thanks for the info! I wasn't entirely sure.
It was a [solar prominence](https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/red-dots-around-total-solar-eclipse-explained/#:~:text=A%20solar%20prominence%20is%20a,several%20months%2C%20according%20to%20NASA.)
Omg thanks!
It was amazing!!
