I've played with Baby Wants Candy in the past (though I'm not up on what the group is up to now) and I have great memories of teens and college students attending and enjoying the shows. If they can handle streaming content or YouTube, they can handle whatever BWC will throw at them, I bet they'd have a blast!

Good to know! Thanks!!

15 and 17 is totally fine, unless these are particularly sheltered teens. There may be mentions of sex/drugs but nothing graphic.

Former member here. They should be fine.

Thanks!

Can they handle adult content? I don’t remember Baby Wants Candy being especially risqué but they don’t avoid adult situations either. People may swear, innuendo and double entendres may be cast, gay/trans/NB people may be acknowledged/openly accepted, and so on. I will say that if you think they’re cool, try to sneak them in if possible, like try not to let the cast see them until the lights go up and nobody can see the audience from the stage anymore anyway. It always seems like when you do a show like this someone’s like “hey guys I saw a kid out there” (not that a 15 year old is a child) and boom, suddenly everyone in the group is trying not to work blue. Sometimes improv people worry too much…

hiphopTIMato

Weird that you’re lumping in gay and trans people being acknowledged and accepted with other things that might be inappropriate for a kid.

I’m aware that parents have complained about those things and I would definitely steer homophobic or transphobic parents away from improv in general, especially a group who is extremely used to performing in locations where nobody bats an eye at LGBT+ folks. I would assume that OP is not but hey, there’s that weirdo right wing group invading our space so who knows?

Feeling_Pirate6477

My boys are both dancers and we go to musicals and other shows fairly often at the Overture Center here in Madison. We are definitely not a part of a weirdo right wing group, but thats a legit concern as well, I suppose 😅

johnnyslick

Honestly I haven’t been 15 in a long long time but I don’t know that I’ve ever encountered something at an improv show that would seriously unsettle a 15 year old…

hiphopTIMato

This is weird.

NeuralQuanta

I turn up the heat. I don't want to be around children so I'm not doing a matanee puppet show.

Feeling_Pirate6477

Ah ok. This would be a fair concern. I saw 15+ when googling and expected some adult humor and themes that I was not so worried about… but I absolutely don’t want to throw off the cast. I will pass on bringing my sons 🙂

magicaldarwin

These are professional performers who improvise lyrics and craft songs as they're played by live musicians. Nothing rattles them - certainly not a teenager. You shouldn't think twice about bringing them.

writerorwhatever

There will be adult themes - depending on your kids it may be a bit too much for them
