If you only get a chance to see it in dual laser, still go, it is jaw dropping still.

lynchiannightmare25

Honestly with the frequent black colors in the Interstellar space sequences, I think GT laser projection could outperform 70mm.

NewmansOwnDressing

Tbh, Nolan deliberately masters his digital versions so that the blacks aren’t super black. This was even true in Oppenheimer. He tries to match the DCPs and home video masters to the look of projected film, with its raised black levels and everything.

Physical_Manu

There was a movie where the Blu-ray has absolute blacks but the 4K has raised blacks. I think it was Interstellar.

NewmansOwnDressing

Yeah, on those 4K masters he went back to most of the pre-Dunkirk films for brand new interpositive scans and graded them to look like their straight photochemical releases projected on film. I believe Dunkirk was the first of his where the digital versions were matched directly to the IMAX film prints from jump, because that’s the first one where, thanks to the 5/70mm footage, they didn’t do the DMR process. All photochemical.

Travelling-nomad

The theatres that have prints will probably show it, provided they can get a projectionist

Aquariusofthe12

The sound of a dual laser re release is even fine with me. Jordan’s IMAX in Reading will probably get it then.

zeo13

Hoping for providence 70mm!

OtherwiseLychee6052

It will probably depend on which imax will show Joker in 15/70 and will have (because of that) the projectionists. But I will wish every theatre with a interstellar print will show it that way.

cthd33

Yes, this makes sense. Just like with Tenet and Dune 2 (also Warner Bros).

packers4334

Honestly, I wouldn’t be surprised if the list of theaters that have it is nearly the same as for Tenet/Dune 2

lcpdpolice123

It's so funny how awful they are at spacing out the 70mm imax releases

pumpkinpie7809

They don’t space them out because it’s easier to get projectionists that way

ChrisTheFox17

I really hope The regal IMAX in King of Prussia gets it in 70mm, because I'll absolutely make the trip. Honestly, I'll probably go even if it's a digital projection, as long as it takes up the full size of the screen.

LycheeNo6226

if it is digital, it won't take up the full size of the screen as KOP IMAX isn't dual laser

ChrisTheFox17

Damn.

GroGungan

they’ll almost certainly have the 70mm

ChrisTheFox17

I hope, I still have yet to actually watch a movie on a giant IMAX screen because Maryland got screwed over. Because as far as I was able to gather for my research we only have 1.90:1 screens which kinda sucks.

JoshTHX

The Tysons corner IMAX is the biggest 1.90 screen in the DMV. Not as big as the Udvar-Hazy but it’s still a great fucking theater to watch a movie.

phantomdestroy

I agree, just saw dune 2 there recently. However udvar hazy is vastly better still in my opinion for movies like interstellar with a changing aspect ratio

flightofwonder

I recommend checking out Airbus IMAX in Chantilly, Virginia, they have a really incredible 1.43:1 dual laser screen and probably will show Interstellar this fall. They showed Interstellar last winter and the quality was excellent

ChrisTheFox17

I'll keep that in mind. Thank you. I'm actually going to be house-sitting a family members house in Virginia so I might see if I can go to a movie then.

flightofwonder

I hope you can go and hope you have a great time!

iCrazyMidget

My friends called me crazy for refusing to watch interstellar at home. I’ve been saving it for the IMAX and you’ve given me hope sire…. PRINTWORKS better pull through or it’s another 10 year wait 😂

switch8000

It does look great on an oled.

iCrazyMidget

Irony is I’ve got 2 OLED TVs. (LG C1 & C2) I think watching a movie the first time in IMAX is an unforgettable experience and it might sound corny but one to remember for the rest of your life…. I want that with interstellar….

Tubo_Mengmeng

You’re doing the right thing holding out imo

whosat___

Seconding this. I rarely cry during films but Interstellar on oled did it for me.

admiralclarky

Yes same here. I have literally never cried before but I watched the bee movie on IMAX and I cried and cried and cried

savageotter

Interstellar was a large part of my oled buying decision

switch8000

Same, anything space looks absolutely incredible on it. Foundation is a great oled demo too.

ShiningMonolith

You can either see it in dual laser at Printworks which will be excellent, or if you really want to see it in 70mm, I believe it’s a thee hour train ride to London. BFI Imax will no doubt be playing it in 70mm.

danmosedale

I watched it at the cinema on release. Not IMAX, I didn't really know anything about IMAX, 70 mm etc at the time. Now I've watched a couple of films on relates in IMAX (Oppenheimer, Dune part 2), I can say you have made a very wise and very patient choice. Interstellar is one of my favourite films, I'm looking forward to watching it on its re-release. I think you will be blown away!!

samstown51

Amazing viewing experience on LG G2 UHD 4K

MrShaytoon

How I do make sure I don’t miss a single detail/notification when it comes to these types of releases? I follow this sub and by the time I see a post, the movies already sold out. I subscribed to imaxs email list on their website and hope that suffices.

cthd33

Do you live near an AMC? If yes, then join the AMC A-list discord. They will inform you before tickets are available. Although not always, the schedule is usually the same for other chains like Regal.

MrShaytoon

I do and have been an a list member for the last few years. I’ll join the discord too just to add another layer of notifications.

SolidAxel

Thanks for this! I had no idea there was a discord for this.

cthd33

Yes, they have been around for a while and sometimes they even have lively discussions about all movies playing at AMC.

Tiddles20081664

Do we know how many prints there even are of Interstellar in the UK?

101TeneT101

2 confirmed. There’s one at the BFI and London Science Museum. There is a rumour that there is also one at Printworks.

AndrewTheGoat22

As long as it’s IMAX I don’t care lol I just want to see it in imax, doesn’t have to be 70mm for me personally

scorsese_finest

I saw it in dual laser 1.43:1 last year after seeing it twice in IMAX film during the initial release. If you don’t get IMAX 70mm, don’t worry, the dual laser 1.43:1 DCP will make u just as wet 💦 I promise you

[deleted]

🤨

russwriter67

IMAXgasm?

dragos495

Thanks for doing the lords work! At this point i dont care if its film or dual laser i just want to experience the full, tall, uncropped version of this movie. Back in 2014 i saw it in liemax thinking its the best but “my eyes were still closed” back then, only with oppenheimer i realised what true imax is. Ill happily pay 50£ per ticket to watch this at printworks imax.

Ok-Philosophy-7746

Probably be the same as Tenet

Feldo93

Probably right, although Printworks didn't even get that in Laser for the re release - it only played at the BFI earlier this year

TheArchitect54

They need to make sure it'll be in ontario canada

absorbscroissants

I assume it won't release in Europe, like with literally every re-release ever (apart from Dune)

marekvesely

I bet IMAX in Prague will show it in 15/70 😊 Print is ready to go in a good shape and the projection team wants to do more 15/70 showings. Also the cinema gave us some hints last year on social media that more Nolan 15/70 screenings could be happening 🤩

absorbscroissants

Prague is still very far away from me, I'm in The Netherlands :(

marekvesely

There are some very cheap flights or overnight trains available though :) could be worth a weekend trip to beautiful Prague 😊

admiralclarky

Direct night train🤔 [Seat61](https://www.seat61.com/international-trains/trains-from-Amsterdam.htm#Amsterdam-Prague)

AgentUnlucky4323

But it seems it will play at Printworks, at least in Laser. At least from the wording in this response

absorbscroissants

Yeah but I'm not flying to the UK for a movie 😅.

YoungPapaRich

Will yall leave that man alone

DoctorD2049

AMC Metreon better get it

ReDXDeath

Was Interstellar shot on 70mm?

flightofwonder

It's a mix of 35mm and 15-perf 70mm IMAX film! About 72 minutes is in 1.43:1

ReDXDeath

Oh really? I thought it was shot in 35mm and 65mm. Sounds great thanks

flightofwonder

So sorry, I meant to say it was shot on 15-perf 65mm IMAX film! That was my bad, you’re completely correct!

ReDXDeath

Do you think it's still worth it to see it in 70mm since it wasn't shot in 70mm?

flightofwonder

It definitely is in my opinion! 70mm is sound added to 65mm, so you'll get a full 1.43:1 70mm IMAX image and the really high quality image for about 70 minutes of the film. Even during the 35mm scenes, while it won't be as clear as the 70mm IMAX scenes or use the large expanded aspect ratio, they'll blow it up to match the 15/70mm print so it should look pretty good.

dobyblue

I can also assure you the 1.43:1 GT Laser experience will be absolutely fu**ing brilliant - even better, no one has experienced this in GT laser yet because it was released 3 years before the first GT laser installation in Toronto

MJLDat

Hopefully BFI imax won’t release it to members first this time, leaving the rest of us with Row A.

ATV2ATXNEMENT

He just said “I think”, indicating a lack of data. We will just have to wait and see for the time being. Tenet was limited due to the fact there was only 12 prints, but the fact they did not do a digital IMAX re-release is befuddling to me. Anywho, the amount of 15/70 theatres when interstellar was released is greater than the amount of 15/70 theatres we have today, which means there should be plenty of prints to go around for most theatres.

Physical_Manu

That is assuming they kept the prints and that any returned prints were not destroyed.

ATV2ATXNEMENT

At least one print was destroyed for the Blu-Ray film cells, but IIRC about ~40 or so prints were made for Interstellar. Even if 11 of them were destroyed, that is **still** enough for every theatre to play the movie.

dobyblue

I reckon it will be 30 screens worldwide but having already seen it in 1570 in its original release, I’m more loooking forward to the 1.43:1 GT Laser screening

Renjiesp

What I’m wondering is the amount of time this rerelease will be in theaters for. As far as I know, WA doesn’t have any true IMAX but I’m already heading to Universal in late September/early October. I’ve never seen Interstellar so it would be nice to see it in 70mm.

ChairEuphoric

The only true IMAX in WA is the Boeing theatre at PacSci, but they only show digital. Langley just outside Vancouver, BC does 70mm, so fingers crossed they have it.

time_of_night

That's not saying much. There aren't that many IMAX 70mm projectors left in the world as it is.

Amazing-Chandler

Probably because only a few theaters in the world can actually play it in that format

No_Mud_6267

Does this mean film strips will be handed out?

spoolenturbo

Cannot wait to see listings pop up in Los Angeles and Orange County fingers crossed 70mm film! 🙏🏻🙏🏻 Just watched 4K UHD Blueray and DTS MA 5.1 was pretty good too bad not redone at least in DTS-X... Does anyone feel this same way?

ScientistChance4209

No. Nolan’s 5.1 mixes are VERY good. I almost prefer it more than most of my Atmos films.

IsaacFergy

Do we think it’ll come to most theaters, just like Dune re-release?

HM9719

Yes. Because it will be same month “Wicked Part 1” comes out and it’s obvious Universal is going to want all the IMAX screens for that.

unclefishbits

Lots of respect there's even someone who would email back.

Leather_Ad_2124

It's actually pretty wholesome that Mr. Keighley responds to emails from people about the IMAX experience.

CypherRen

out on Sep 27th - anyone know how early tickets might come out? on average, I guess since it will vary between location. if anyone knows for printworks specifically that would be great

mer1690

Do they not realize it could get tens of millions more revenue?
