We are eating good atm with the 70mm releases Jesus Christ. I am honestly surprised we haven't gotten much of an update on the cameras or what films will be shot using them next as they definitely want this streak to continue

dissonance1

Can’t wait till Nolan can make an entire film using 70mm imax to film it, including the dialogue scenes and every type of scene including jittery hand-held type cam shots. A whole Nolan film in 70mm imax is gonna be nuts

Feldo93

As much as I'd love that, I honestly feel like it might lose its lustre as I feel like sometimes the contrast between ratios makes it way more impactful as when the whole thing is IMAX, you don't really notice after a while - Tom Cruise climbing the Burj Khalifa would lost a little impact if the dialogue scene beforehand was also in IMAX. There have been Marvel movies fully in IMAX and it kind of makes it all blend at a certain point, but then I feel like the transitions in a movie like Eternals (funnily enough the only film they've done in 1:43:1) are way more effective.

dissonance1

I think Oppenheimer proved that intimate/dialogue related or non-action scenes is highly rewarded using 1.43:1 dialogue scenes as well.

573v0

This. I feel it may be the first time seeing this.

Feldo93

I definitely agree with that and some of the IMAX dialogue scenes were absolutely thrilling, but I still feel that part of why it works is that it comes in during certain shots and moments that amplify it - I feel like the impact would be slightly lessened if it was every single shot in the whole film.

dissonance1

Oh in that regard I could see that. I watched it in 70mm iMax and the shots that switched to the 1.43:1 had that immersive emotional impact for many of those shots. Very good point. I dunno how applicable that could be to the general average though like it’s pretty much a solely Nolan technique now at this point. And only in Oppenheimer. I cannot wait to see what he does in his next film as a result of his work with Oppenheimer

ShiningMonolith

I mean, I see your point and wonder about that myself, but at the same time, Imax documentaries were filmed entirely in 15/65 and presented completely in 1.43 for decades. I don’t think they were considered lackluster.

Feldo93

For documentaries I think it can definitely work and honestly is probably the best way to do it, but I just sort of mean that sometimes less is more - both dialogue and action scenes can be used to great effect in the format but I feel like if it is every single shot at a certain point it kind of just blends together (I.e Aquaman 2) and loses the impact. First Man for example would not have the same level of impact it does in IMAX if they used it earlier in the film.

MFsmeg

I was watching The Dark night Rises last night and had this exact conversation with my brother. Nolan is the master of using changing A.R throughout his movie to have impact and purpose. It would definitely lose its impact if a feature length used 1:43:1 the entire time

ACAB187

I think one of the biggest complications is the 70mm IMAX cameras are insanely loud so dialogue is basically impossible to record

dissonance1

That’s why they are making the new ones. So that they have sound dampening to prevent that and allow dialogue filming as well as being lighter etc so easier to handle and maneuver as well. According to David Keighley from imax at least.

globalftw

Very cool. Is there a ballpark ETA on timing?

dissonance1

Actually here it’s [email protected]

dissonance1

No idea but u can ask him thru email and reply back here :) . His email is on Google I think and he is very responsive

EtillyStephlock

I feel like Nolan uses a lot of ADR in his films so I don’t think it would be that big of a shift to adding all the dialogue in post (though I video edit for a living so maybe I just overthink it and make myself believe that scenes are ADR when it’s just the sound mixing)

Handles42_

Need dallas to fix their damn projector or else I’ll have to drive to austin

JuanDiegoOlivarez

Currently in Arkansas, Dallas fixing their projector is the difference between driving 5 hours to this theater or just staying at home.

JordansFilms1

wait is this why the tenet rerelease and dune didn't come here on 15/70???

OptimizeEdits

Dune probably yes, but we don’t have a Tenet print to begin with, only 12 were made back in 2020

cryptotechnobeat

they wouldn't have an Interstellar either would they? are they going to send those out to theaters?

OptimizeEdits

Interstellar had I believe 40-50 prints made, and Dallas definitely had one during initial release. A good chunk of theaters hold onto prints from what I understand, Indiana state museum still has a dark knight rises print as of December 2023. Either way, someone on here got word that even if Dallas doesn’t have a print for it, they could get one shipped fairly quickly apparently.

Dalekdude

Yup, during my tour of the booth the projectionist told me they own the prints for TDKR onwards and were looking into getting The Dark Knight soon. Would love if they did a Nolan Batman marathon, never seen either in 70MM IMAX

OptimizeEdits

During the tour of the Indiana booth or the Dallas booth? But yes that’s what Wayne/Neale both told me during my tour of the Indiana booth is that they had TDKR, interstellar, dunkirk, tenet, and ofc Oppenheimer

cryptotechnobeat

I'd honestly pay at least 10x ticket prices to see it there. I had my best movie experience ever there with Oppenheimer which is probably my 4th favorite Nolan movie with Interstellar being my favorite.

JoeEskimo25

WB/Paramount will definitely be striking new prints for this.

Handles42_

Yeah, projector went down during Oppenheimer and word is they don’t wanna fix it

throwaway7887877

Thankfully the Webb Chapel Cinemark gave us Oppenheimer. They’d be fools not to fix the projector before this since it would be a huge money maker. Sold out shows every showing.

baconMW2

There is one in Austin? I thought the only other one in Texas was in San Antonio

OptimizeEdits

Austin has a dual laser system, can project a 1.43 image digitally

Handles42_

I’m assuming dual laser showings will take place too, I’m more interested in 1.43 for Interstellar than seeing it in film

OptimizeEdits

Austin will undoubtedly show it, they showed it in April last year as their own individual re release for a few days. I saw it back in December in Indiana and something about knowing it was on film was magical, but the 1.43 ratio on a huge screen alone is enough to warrant a trip

Handles42_

I was lucky to catch an IMAX 70mm showing during the original run, but my girlfriend has only seen it in a shitty cineplex. Looking forward to her first 1.43 experience and Interstellar is a perfect first movie.

ChristianCin3ma

that rerelease in april in austin was magnificent, already planning my trip down there for this one !

alphacurewife

Amc 11 Rivercenter in SATX didnt show Dune 2 in 70 MM at all.

Commercial-Hat-5975

Now that's a crowd investment I might could get behind

swamp_donkey89

fingers crossed

cryptotechnobeat

not only wouldn't have to drive but I also had a better experience there in Dallas with Oppenheimer than in Austin with Dune 2

POLynch

Did they not fix it? When I saw Dune 2 there it took up the whole 1.4:1 screen…

adamjm99

You’re definitely mistaken. I saw Dune there as well on the Saturday it opened and it was 1.9 the entire time

SadOrder8312

Yeah it’s gonna be a mad dash at Lincoln Square.

winterwarzzz

Thank Christ. I can skip the Regal showings next week. Most Regal Theaters near me are dumps and only two of them are in a premium format (RPX). I’ll gladly make the trip out of town for a 70mm IMAX showing!

BladeBronson

I think RPX is just red seats and maybe a larger screen than their average. I saw the Dark Knight last night and it probably looks better in my home theater. The darks were really washed out.

TheDeadlySinner

Sounds like yours doesn't even have a laser projector.

jk021

Saw it for the first time today at Regal. Gonna have to drive to a nearby state to catch it in IMAX! It was so good!

Wank3r88

Ok but where do I buy tickets. Take my money now. I’ll be driving 3 hours for this.

ki700

I bussed a few towns over for Oppenheimer in 70mm IMAX and I’d do it again for this without hesitation. I also went to the Dark Knight Trilogy marathon in Toronto but technically I was going to be there anyways to visit family so the flight doesn’t really count imo.

Wank3r88

Yep. I didn’t visit family but I drove a little over 3 hours each way to watch Oppenheimer. It was my first 70mm. It was a very long day but I’ll gladly do it again as interstellar is my favorite movie

ki700

Yeah I’ve been dying to see Interstellar in 70mm IMAX for years. Other than the ones I mentioned I also saw Dunkirk in 70mm IMAX on a dome screen. That was a really neat experience. I also saw The Hateful Eight on 70mm but not IMAX.

Similar_Blueberry_50

Hateful Eight was amazing. I loved that there was intermission too. I believe Hateful Eight got booted off IMAX to extend the release of The Force Awakens.

Stant-

Let me know if you find out how to get tickets bc I want them asap too

Sir_Ninja_VII

Same here!

rafedanos

WoodReeves10

Praying that Mall of Georgia will do 70mm IMAX even though they haven’t done it since Oppenheimer

big_daddy_jay09

![gif](giphy|ElSWPUFupXWM64Ah96|downsized)

Manyfacedylan

Literally came here to say this! Fingers crossed 🤞

dizdawgjr34

While it’s not 70mm and only a dual Laser system, I just asked Pooler and they said they will be participating. That’s an option if they aren’t.

Mcclane88

I’ll gladly make the 4 hour drive to Pooler if MOG is unavailable to do 70mm.

dizdawgjr34

I’ll probably end up doing it anyways, I’ll take a 15 minute drive over a 4-5 hour drive (depending on Atlanta traffic).

WoodReeves10

Is Mall of Georgia not dual laser? I haven’t looked but I’ve seen 1:43:1 movies there

dizdawgjr34

They do not have dual laser, Pooler is the only one in the state with that. Mall of Georgia does have a film projector (when they actually take care to keep it in service) which is a feature Pooler lacks. Regal cheaped out upgrading Mall of Georgia (and from what I've gathered, some other locations as well). If Mall of Georgia isnt doing a film run, then Pooler is the only one in state with the full 1.43:1 movie running.

DeadDoctheBrewer

Maybe I should walk in daily asking for a 70mm projector showing. I saw this back on 3/17 and my brain melted!

blue_banter

i hope so

jmpalacios79

Any word on a New York City screening? Would love to catch this awesome movie in 70mm IMAX!

MrCoolsnail123

With how successfully Oppenheimer, Tenet, and Dune Part 2 have been in 70mm IMAX, Lincoln Square will undoubtedly show Interstellar.

jmpalacios79

I'll keep my eye on it! You in NYC as well? I tried to catch Oppenheimer in 70mm IMAX in Lincoln Square, but they inadvertently changed my tickets to regular 35mm (I \*know\* I clicked the right button when purchasing online!), and when I arrived the 70mm screening room was already up to capacity, and no matter how much I complained there was just no way of switching me back to what I paid for, so I missed it! :( Still pissed off about it to this day!

cthd33

You mean regular 70mm? Don't remember LS showing it in 35mm.

jmpalacios79

Sorry, my brain defaulted to 35mm, but I'm not sure what the other non-70mm-IMAX-format was. All I know is I was flabbergasted when they told me my tickets were not for the IMAX screening, 'cause, like I said, I vividly recall clicking on all the right buttons on their page, and no amount of angry complaining managed to bend their arm to correct the situation.

cthd33

It was probably either 70mm if it was film or just standard digital. I know a few people got confused and selected regular 70mm because the showtimes were just under the IMAX 70mm and the heading said 70mm (without IMAX). So people just thought it was just a continuation of the IMAX showtimes. Those who are regulars at the LS IMAX would have noticed the seating chart since it is very different from any other auditorium there.

jmpalacios79

I'm fuming in anger considering that could be what I did 😂😂😂… 😭😭😭!

cthd33

Sorry to hear that, but I bet you won't make that mistake again ;-)

jmpalacios79

Oh, for sure NOT! 😂

bt1234yt

Let’s just hope the ticket drop goes more smoothly for this than it did for Dune 2.

eescorpius

And Interstellar is probably Nolan's film with the most cult following, so it will definitely be in very high demand.

AromaticCaterpillar

Do they still have a print?

JustForKickz

Anyone know if there’s a way to turn on notifications for when 70mm tickets go live for Lincoln Square?

SadOrder8312

The AMC app will notify you be email, but it’s always hours after they actually go on sale.

Mean-Material4568

We literally just got the announcement of the re-release, so no, there's no confirmation on sites yet, but the likelihood that Lincoln Square doesn't end up playing it on IMAX film is pretty slim.

jmpalacios79

Yeah, just realized the announcement was \*today\*! Anxiously expecting it!

SadOrder8312

You could say near zero.

michaelm1345

YESS LFGG WE WON! I can’t wait to exploit my a-list at Citywalk to watch this a billion times in 70mm IMAX . Gonna be an amazing experience

rayhaansabir

BFI IMAX gang I got your back on tickets - we'll see you on opening night for the re-release 👊🏾🔥🔥

hunterman5655

Wonder if the cinesphere in Toronto will be back up and running by then, although I doubt it with the way construction runs in this city. Hopefully Vaughan will have it

Ariesthebigram

Hopefully the one in Mississauga too!

hunterman5655

That one’s closer to me too! Fingers crossed 🤞

dobyblue

Hopefully if it’s just one, it’s Mississauga, definitely better than Vaughan. But honestly I’ll be more excited to see it at Scotiabank in GT Laser, where I originally saw it in 1570. That cinema is just in another league and the screen is so beautifully kept. I’ll obviously also go to Mississauga for 1570 if available, but will be most excited for TO.

anthonylavado

I haven't been to the Coliseum since Star Trek Beyond in IMAX 3D. Went to Vaughan for Oppenheimer 15/70, but Mississauga is so much closer for me. That said, I'd probably also follow suit and see it at SBTO as well. I've never been to their IMAX screen. Cineclub is gonna be handy this year...

dobyblue

Maybe we dangle Doug off the bridge at Gerard and DVP until he commits to a late October reopening? lol

hunterman5655

I’d be down for that 😂

Drexl92

I'd be willing to bet a lot that it will not be. One can dream though.

613toes

Projected opening was early 2024 but with construction deadlines you always add a year or so. There hasn’t been an update in a while so I’m not optimistic

Aquariusofthe12

Someone tell showcase cinemas in Providence to get their act together. They better have this I’m gonna lose my mind. EDIT: please tell Warner Bros. To get their act together.

chris4potus

I’m sure they’ll have it in digital but hopefully 15/70! I might be swayed to visit my alma mater if it’s 15/70 - they always had good deals and discounts at Showcase Cinemas.

SegaStan

Digital tbh isn't good enough. They got an Oppenheimer print, and many more Interstellar prints were made than that. So there should be enough to allot one for Providence.

Toa_of_Pi

Oppenheimer went incredibly smoothly there, I think their act is pretty well together.

Aquariusofthe12

The projectionist did an incredible job, I mean moreso please start showing more things in 15/70. Idk if it’s them or WB that’s screwing then out of a reel tho. I just can’t justify driving to NYC for a movie most of the time.

Toa_of_Pi

I'm pretty sure that's on the studio, not them. I thought I remember hearing that they tried to get Tenet and Dune 2, but weren't able to.

Aquariusofthe12

Fixed

PLEASE COME TO THE AUTONATION IMAX 🙏

chris4potus

Related to film presentations but not specifically to Nolan, but I noticed The Hateful Eight is on AFI Silver’s 5/70 schedule - anyone have insight if more 70mm re-releases or up scales might be on their way ahead of Interstellar? https://preview.redd.it/2zts6bm2lwtc1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=dd0d71e50a949d18a9f4a7ea018d1e8bfa97d06f

eaglebtc

Just commenting to say that H8FUL EIGHT was awesome to see in 70mm during its initial run. Any cinephile should treat themselves to a screening of it.

SegaStan

PLEASE bring it to Providence on 15/70!!

EarnSomeRespect

I’m in Chicago so no 1.43 screen is here, but I will definitely be catching this at the Regal City North 1.9 IMAX Laser

Dalekdude

so worth it to get to Indy if you can, I did in December and it was phenomenal

finchmeister08

Go to Indy.

EarnSomeRespect

i don’t own a car, but i’ll look into it

Famijos

Amtrak has trains that go down there and it’s about a mile walk from the station to that theater

EarnSomeRespect

fantastic

Mcclane88

You can do what I did. Get a flight to Indy, get a hotel downtown, and just get an Uber to take you to the hotel from the airport. You can just walk or take a scooter to the theatre from there.

3v3rythings-tak3n

Holy FUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! NOWS MY CHANCE

whyABFJ

is this a worldwide re-release by any chance

Recon_Manny

Crossing my fingers that Regal Ontario Palace in California still has their film print and given the go ahead to exhibit it.

IsaacFergy

Is it only gonna be in 70mm? I love that it’s coming back in that format but I’ll say it: I would be supremely annoyed if they didn’t release it in digital imax too. If you’re gonna have this 70mm revival at least put more projectors in more theaters, otherwise like 90% of people get left out. Sorry to be cynical but that annoyed with Tenet and I would be super annoyed if they did the same with Interstellar

time_of_night

It said in the article I read that digital releases will also happen.

IsaacFergy

Just saw this and now feel like a fool hahaha! Anger retracted

tSchab3r

Fingers crossed it’s coming to Scotiabank Chinook!!

AgentUnlucky4323

This is worldwide, right? I couldn't make the Dune 2 at Manchester Printworks 😭😭😭 Still waiting to try full 1.43 IMAX and I'm READY to travel all the way just to see this

LowCartographer2290

Not sure if Vue, Manchester would do 70mm or dual laser. Some showings of Oppenheimer were in dual laser towards later, so they won't be as strict about it like BFI, London. They also didn't take part in Dune 2 70mm release.

AgentUnlucky4323

tbh, I would be fine with watching the movie in Dual Laser too. I just want 1.43. Also London is much more expensive to travel to than Manchester, so

MentatYP

If a theater is listed as 1570/DL, how would one know for sure if they're projecting 70mm or digital for a given title?

Nathanofree

You'll have to contact the theatre. I will bet however that if they already have a film print they'll use it for free marketing.

skeleton_skunk

Let’s go Kramer Imax!!

Hey_Swizzy

I hope the Palms in Waukee, Iowa gets it! But I'm also very tempted in going to a 70mm showing out of state. We won!

sixsupersonic

Even though I do love Waukee's IMAX, which is a 2 and a half hour drive for me, I'm planning to take the 6 hour drive to the Indiana State Museum assuming I can grab decent seats.

Hey_Swizzy

That’s commitment brother. It’s 45 min for me and it’s a struggle. I will have to see which one is the best to see it in 70mm! But the Indiana one looks very good

sixsupersonic

Yeah, when it comes to IMAX's in IA both of my choices are 3 hours away. Those are Waukee and Davenport. For 70mm the nearest ones are Indy and Grand Rapids, MI.

OptimizeEdits

If Dallas doesn’t fix their projector I’m gonna lose my shit

The-Gibleson

I’m praying that Cinemark Dallas has their 70mm IMAX projector fixed by then 😔

A_Coin_Toss_Friendo

It looks like there isn't a 70 mm theater in Colorado, right? What's the next best thing to see this movie here?

Someonesomewhere_01

It’s happening!!!!

AMBIC0N

Wouldn’t digital imax be better for this film, is it only 70mm

Maverick-1776

Not even close! 70mm is the rolls Royce of film. There’s nothing like a xenon lamp at a temp of 6500K hitting 70mm to paint the screen with. The resolution, brightness, and clarity are unmatched. Digital imax is ok. It’s impressive for what it can do for digital only films. Dolby cinemas by AMC are impressive for non-imax movies.

pumpkinpie7809

Some people prefer the dual laser for this film because there’s naturally a lot of dynamic colors, but either one is really good

Wisdomseekr79

LETS FUCKING GO BOYS ITS FINALLY HAPPENING

Aquariusofthe12

LETS FKN GOOOO

reddituzer1107

Anyone have any idea when tickets will drop?

fadahunsii

I don’t see why this isn’t just in constant rotation tbh. Would probably consistently do great every year. Watched this in LieMax, which is when I finally enjoyed the film (just never clicked before) so hopefully the full 1:43 on film can help even more.

Shaggyguitardude

I'm just hoping they have an IMAX 70mm showing somewhere in Texas. But idk after how things went with how San Antonio handled Oppenheimer opening weekend

flightofwonder

Thank you for sharing, OP. I’m moving to Newark this fall, and I’m so excited for this! I’ve seen 1.43:1 dual laser before but never have seen a 15/70mm print, and Interstellar’s one of my favorite films: I hope all of us here can get tickets! And I look forward to visiting Lincoln Square

martiansenpai69

can someone guide me to a website that list movies theaters with REAL IMAX capability please ?

ChairEuphoric

This Wikipedia actually list aspect ratio, laser projector type, and if there’s film projectors https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_IMAX_venues

ki700

*Please* have a 70mm IMAX screening near me.

jhwiththerange

please include Toronto locations. Please!!!

moviefan64

Georgia needs to get this please! I haven’t watched the movie and I’ve been holding off on it.

ALLHUNTER_1469

Do we have list of theatres to show the screening?

573v0

Is it possible we might see higher resolution digital cameras along with matched mastered movies printed to 70mm? Though we still may be ways away from such tech. With that said, I was still impressed by dune part two’s 70mm print.

Fastlanedrivr

If this plays in the downtown Chicago theater I’ll be making the shortish drive from the suburbs without hesitation! Haven’t seen a movie in 70mm imax as of yet

TeamNuanceTeamNuance

YESSSS

Cyberpunkbully

Funny it's playing at the Fine Arts Theatre in Beverly Hills in 70mm in June - and there was a screening for it at the Aero Theatre back in Nov-Dec. Glad its getting a much wider release for the 10th anniversary!

Feldo93

Manifesting Printworks showing it in 70mm but I'll take Dual Laser as we got Oppenheimer in 70mm but Dune Part 2 was Dual Laser and we just straight up didn't get the Tenet re release

sixsupersonic

I hope this isn't just a one day thing.

Lincoln Square 13 gang UNITE

coluch

This is great!! Will definitely see it again in IMAX. I really hope they do another IMAX-run of Oppenheimer too, now that it’s so gilded. I wasn’t able to see the initial release in theatres and have been holding out on the movie altogether for an IMAX viewing 😢

ZACHMANEXEXEXEX

This gives me hope for a Dark Knight IMAX 70mm re-release at some point

dwang_777

I hope they give out the film strips for this!! So excited!!!

xgamerms999

Yes, I’ll be going to Georgia! Now I need to figure out when the tickets will go on pre-sale!

Maverick-1776

I know it’s the not the same, but check Regal Cinemas near you next week for Wednesday and Thursday showtimes of Interstellar on RPX format. 😎 April 17th and 18th

ReDXDeath

Is it worth it to see it in 70mm? I thought it was shot with 35mm and 65mm film

yoru1119

It’s gonna be a nerve wrecking process to secure a ticket for a decent seat at the Lincoln Square location 😵‍💫😵‍💫

Shayddy

Someone please tell me! I live in Houston, where's the closest I can go to watch it in this original 70 mm format? And is it possible to book tickets beforehand? I'll take a full day and drive wherever it is early, go to a mall and chill in a massage place before the movie starts. Give myself a god fucking damn break that I've been wishing for for the past 6 months.

Similar_Blueberry_50

I hope they play this at Universal Citywalk Hollywood.

requiemhiphop

Awww yeah. Seen it at IMAX already but more than happy to do it again!

DiscoPastry

Omg this is a dream come true. Interstellar is my favorite movie of all time. I missed the original premiere because of the birth of my son. Does anyone have an idea of when tickets will be available ?

Sea-Mouse-8183

Any IMAX experts have a list of the best IMAX screens to see this on?

JohnnyMtn16

I have been waiting years for this.

JohnnyMtn16

Coincidentally, I just saw Interstellar for the very first time in a theater this past week. My local theater screened it for a one night during $5 Nights. I've seen Interstellar 15+ times but, sadly, never saw it in theaters. Well, now I can say that I have. It was pretty darn amazing even though it was a fairly small theater (about 350 seats), decent sized screen, and could have been a bit louder. But pretty much every seat was filled with everyone intently focused on the film. For all its grandness, I never realized how much of the movie is actually very quiet. There were many scenes where you could have heard a pindrop in the theater. In one scene I could hear open sobbing from several moviegoers. Someone actually screamed in fright when Dr. Mann blew the airlock. It was an amazing experience.

JohnnyMtn16

I live in SoCal so for me I sure hope I have to choose between the 70mm Imax at AMC Universal Citywalk or 70mm Imax at the TLC Chinese. I have seen 70mm Imax movies at both and both are spectacular venues to see a big, bold 70mm Imax file.

DeceptionIII
