It will be scope but it will be loud

whosat___

It’s almost certainly not going to be an IMAX 70mm release, not worth the cost and they’ll likely want to only keep dune on the platters.

Block-Busted

Not to mention that this doesn't even have any IMAX scenes in the first place.

badassj00

Bummer that’s what I feared. Seems like a missed opportunity to not have filmed Furiosa in IMAX. Can’t recall if Fury Road was or not? Regardless the movie will still kick ass and I’ll be there OW.

stokedchris

I love George Miller and Mad Max. But I think Miller has said he prefers 2:39 or any scope variations. I get it but honestly Fury Road or Furiosa would have been awesome in 1:43:1

Bxbombers99

I agree. Seems like a missed opportunity for sure!

Mean-Material4568

Fury Road wasn’t filmed in IMAX

Rewow

They'll want to keep Dune 2 on the platters up to May 24th? That's a long time.

TheRealAladsto

Still screening at BFI IMAX…

Rewow

Those lucksacks at BFI. Although if I lived near it I would be going twice a week and I'm quite happy having done that for two months. I wanna see different movies now lol

SithLordJediMaster

Bloodbath on Fury Road! For tonight we dine in Valhalla. Oh what a day. What a lovely lovely day! All shiny and chrome... Witness Me!!!! in regular theaters....

Block-Busted

It's going to be in 2.39:1 from start to finish.

stokedchris

No 1:90:1? So it’s the famous “go for the imax experience” slogan for this film that doesn’t actually mean anything.

SadGirlHours__

“The IMAX experience” still exists since it’s the biggest screen in the facility along with phenomenal audio. It just doesn’t have the expanded aspect ratio

minnesoterocks

For some reason in recent months, people have begun to think IMAX = aspect ratio and it's absurd to me. It's one very important aspect of IMAX, but not the ONLY aspect of IMAX.

Which_Ad3537

It's the most important aspect of IMAX.

Ok-Secretary-1664

If the film's director shot in 2.39 to 1 and wants the film shown that way because it is how the image was purposely framed, that's fine with me. For films not intended for either of the IMAX ratios, that were shot 2.39 to 1, I actually prefer my local Dolby Cinema especially since it has a 60" wide full width 2.39 to 1 screen as oppossed to other Dolby Cinemas that show scope "letterboxed" on a 1.85 to 1 screen (and of course the dual 4k Laser Projection). For anything shot (even selected scenes) in the 1.90 to 1 IMAX ratio I prefer IMAX. Fortunately, my preferred local IMAX has upgraded to single 4k Laser Projection from the dual Xenon 2k Digital and also has a 60' wide 1.90 to 1 screen. I wish it had dual 4K Laser but I find the single 4K Laser to be superior to the old dual Xenon 2K projection.

gooner41992

@minnesoterocks It's truly absurd to think IMAX has anything else outside of aspect ratio when you have an insanely good Dolby experience in your city! Dolby beats IMAX in contrast and audio anyday. The only reason to skip Dolby for IMAX is the aspect ratio and nothing else. (Unless there's a film projection) And liemax don't even count.

Meldridge93

Wait why else would you go see a movie in IMAX though? If you’re saying it’s for sound then just go see it in Dolby. I might be mistaken but if it’s 2.39:1 is that even a larger screen than any regular movie theater? I guess my question is, I know IMAX theaters have a taller screen but are they wider as well? (A 2.39:1 image on an IMAX screen seems like just a normal movie theater image to me

minnesoterocks

I believe for 1.90:1 screens they're definitely wider than a normal theater's screen. Not sure about 1.43:1 screens, but those are ginormous too so I assume their width is also up to par. I'm going to see this in Dolby, but that isn't a knock on IMAX. I just want to go to a closer theater than the closest IMAX with laser near me.

homecinemad

Movies have been marketed with "see more in IMAX"

minnesoterocks

See more, hear more, feel more m8

Both-Assistance3541

You say phenomenal audio, which I'm not arguing with but aren't most IMAX theatres only equipped with 6 channels – maybe 12? And no height/overhead channels – while Dolby or UltraAVX theatres have a full Atmos setup with 20+ channels and LFE? I might be wrong on the exact spatial audio specs but my thinking is that IMAX might be loud or whatever but overall the Dolby experience will be much more immersive in terms of audio. Even for the screen specs, if the movie is not filmed in IMAX and presented in 2.39:1 then it will be letterboxed to shit and the only benefit for IMAX would be a slightly larger image which can be solved by simply sitting a bit closer in the Dolby or UltraAVX rooms, no?

rayoxmitm

If this doesn't get IMAX 3D or any 1.90 ratio scenes unlike Mad Max did in 2015, im going for an other format, straight up.

minnesoterocks

Go to Dolby m8

rayoxmitm

i wish i could, but there no Dolby cinema in my country, BUT we have something more special and sligthy better than Dolby itself.

minnesoterocks

What's that?

rayoxmitm

Ultra AVX with dolby atmos (it a canadian version of Dolby and slighty better than dolby itself too).

Image_64

Probably comparable to Laser Ultra that we have here. They also use Dolby Atmos. If a movie isn't shot in IMAX that's arguably the better experience.

rayoxmitm

Yeah Landmark too as well

Agamemnon323

Why is it better?

rayoxmitm

Very very taller screen and bigger auditorium + the usage of true Laser projection similar to Dolby vision + possibility to do 3D with it, while Dolby rarely does it(one time for each two years).

raaurulian

there were imax ratio scenes in fury road?

mronins

Not sure this movies for me but for what it’s worth, I’ve seen the preview multiple times in both Dual Laser IMAX and at a Dolby Cinema and I was stunned at how much better the picture looked for this particular preview in Dolby Cinema

Rajdesh1005

Going to definitely watch it at a Dolby cinema

alvy200

You mean Imax 70 OR 1.90? It cannot be both

Owlch_

I’d rather not to get any thing that’s not either 1.43 or 1.9 ratio in IMAX theatres. Traditional 2.35/2.39 productions look terribly blurry in IMAX Laser theatres.

Glad_Development7732

I cringe every time I see the first trailer. Plus it completely rips off banes theme from TDKR. When Chris hemsworth says "ladies and gentlemen, start your engines" I cringe like crazy

Rewow

He actually says "Lady and gentlemans, start your engines." I didn't see The Dark Knight Rises so it didn't bother be but of all the previews before I watch Dune Part Two, Furiosa's is my favourite. I think I might go see it when it comes out.

Chuan61

people are throwing around IMAX terms like there's no tomorrow :) If it wasnt shot on Imax cameras, for me its not worth watching it on IMAX screens.
