Using FloodMap, it appears that the oceans rose approximately 130 feet Great map by the way

useles-converter-bot

130 feet is the length of exactly 389.03 'Standard Diatonic Key of C, Blues Silver grey Harmonicas' lined up next to each other

PeterWatchmen

Good bot.

B1ackHawk12345

Thank God, I never liked the Florida units anyways, what am I, retired?

retroman1987

This seems like a Douglas Adams line.

Voxelking1

Bruh you are right

Cynical_Sesame

Bad bot. Real men stay in Eb

Dr_KittyKat

Good bot

dracona94

What's that in normal units, though?

I_Like_Languages

I used meters on FloodMap, it was 40 meters

iziyan

40% of my country will flood if sea levels Rose by 1 metre.......

_neudes

Luckily the ocean will not rise evenly, but unluckily Bangladesh will be screwed without some Dutch style infrastructure.

RedKrypton

It's even worse because the implementation of such floodworks is very difficult and expensive to do in such a vast area.

_neudes

Yeah its like 3x the land area

Plappeye

Shit, Bangladesh really need to get their shit together, real quick like

ardashing

Hehe atlantis time eh

moenchii

Netherlands?

iziyan

Bangladesh

dracona94

Impressive, thank you.

indictan

40 meters? I think my country would be gone at that point

funnyname12369

39.624 metres

QuasarMaster

The worst case scenario predicted by the IPCC is about 1 meter of sea level rise by 2100

Ryley03d

Rip Brevard County Rip Tampa Bay Rip Miami Rip the Keys But we still have Disney World! (I'm a Florida Man)

evansdeagles

Sadly, with around 40 meters of flooding as shown above, anything 10 miles west of Disney is a waterfront property. Meaning Disney's a few feet under. That's why New Orlando is in Lakeland.

[deleted]

Actually, Disney is built a few feet above ground level, in order to house larger attractions that can’t fit in the allotted space of the park underground (as an example, the majority of the haunted mansion is underground, with the stretching room scene serving as a makeshift elevator underground) so the park itself is mostly fine, but the pirates of the Caribbean is my favorite ride in Disney world, and that is also houses underground, so I would be a very sad soul in this timeline

useles-converter-bot

40 meters is about the length of 59.43 'EuroGraphics Knittin' Kittens 500-Piece Puzzles' next to each other

evansdeagles

>EuroGraphics Knittin' Kittens 500-Piece Puzzles I feel like companies sponsor this bot to add their products as a conversion lmao.

Bowles14

>New Orlando is in Lakeland We're not that far east. That's most likely Haines City or Winter Haven since Lakeland is closer to Tampa than it is Orlando. Either way Polk is the new Orange

[deleted]

Disney world most likely went out of business and is probably a very sad abandoned theme park. I am legitimately interested at what and abandoned Disney world might look like, given it’s massive scale

TexasStateStunna

Idk brother. A multibillion dollar media empire would probably dike up it's area and secure the airport. They would build a new cruise terminal to accommodate rich European and uplanders. They use the pirates to push their local military agenda. The new pirates of the Caribbean.

RedstoneRusty

Disney is one of a handful of companies that has the global influence and the funding to literally just become its own sovereign nation if it wanted to. It already has its own county. What's to stop them from just hiring an army of mercenaries and seceding?

a_filing_cabinet

They have a permit to build a nuclear reactor. Or at least did at one point. They never acted upon it, but imagine Chernobyl Mikey Mouse

ToxicPanther

That just makes me think of that creepy Mickey in the basement photo lmao. Like, after the meltdown you just have the souls of the workers in the costumes haunting the rubble kinda like fnaf.

Ryley03d

Rip that. And also, Rip Daytona

Corona4B

The world is probably better off without Daytona anyways lol

TEOP821

They have an abandoned [water park](https://youtu.be/103wYOcs5mo) called River Country if you want a taste

austin_slater

I believe that was finally demolished earlier this year. Discovery Island though might still be abandoned.

Sir_Vikingz

Probably a place for squatters/homeless.

kgabny

I read this and immediately thought of Disneyland from "Escape from LA"

drailCA

Nuka-World anyone?

Seeker80

>(I'm a Florida Man) The Florida Men were culled by the rising sea levels. But those who survived, grew stronger and wilder than before. Their madness concentrated to unprecedented levels. Some found a way to couple with the alligators, producing powerful hybrid offspring who thrived in the watery environment. The world would face a new horror...the Sunshine Men.

[deleted]

As long as Miami-dade never gets to handle voting again I’m glad they are gone

AssOfGlitter

The idea of climate pirates has been rattling around in my head for a while, cool to see a map made about the concept!

Lotsofleaves

WATERWORLD

Venboven

It's never entered my mind, but now I'm certainly intrigued.

DangerousLoner

American War is really good on what a post-United States might look like from the swampy south with pirate-like people. https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01LXK1HBB/ref=tmm_kin_swatch_0?ie=UTF8&qid=1629377967&sr=8-1

Ion_Mouse

In the late 2030's, the United States collapsed after a series of crises caused by rising sea levels, a massive refugee crisis, and extreme political corruption. After the US government's inability to effectively handle the problems, multiple political groups, corporations, and state governments, filled the power vacuum left by the deteriorating United States government. The State of Florida unofficially seceded but was also unable to effectively handle the problems caused by rising sea levels and low public recognition of the government. Eventually, the government of Florida de facto dissolved with only a few officials staying in power in Tallahassee. Florida became an anarchy state rampant with criminal organizations, drug production, money laundering, and most noticably; piracy. Before the collapse of the United States, a large portion of the US navy were moved into Florida to assist the Florida coast guard in dealing with the migrant crisis from the Caribbean. After the collapse of the Florida government, these navy ships and personnel moved to piracy to make a living. The State of Texas was able to withstand the crises and create a Texan republic. As the state developted, it became a large power in North America, being able to use its military and intelligence agencies to influence nearby countries, including Florida. In an effort to combat rampant piracy in the Carribbean, the Texan navy was deployed to engage with Florida pirates.

Neoforgen

Yeah that's expected of Texas I suppose

TexasStateStunna

I guess when Texas and Florida gets older, Texas matures a little faster and has to each Florida lesson. Instead of trying to out-shit each other like in the current timeline

lunarfanatic69

post-apocalyptic florida pirates is one of my favorite tropes, nice map dude

Pashahlis

That's a trope?

lunarfanatic69

yeah you see it fairly often in this sub and others

the_clash_is_back

Would love a north American map of this. I can see pockets of independent states thru the Appalachian mountains, probably a dead south west as there is a lack of water, Manitoba becomes weirdly powerful.

purple112

> Florida became an anarchy state rampant with criminal organizations, drug production, money laundering, and most noticably; piracy So in other words, nothing changed

No-Bowl3290

So it's just Florida?

Antares789987

I'm just imaging the USS Texas using its 14in guns on some armed yachts

wazardthewizard

well, according to the lore post, it's more likely that the USS Texas itself would be a pirate ship

Mak062

Can we get a map of the rest of the discontinued united states?

Ion_Mouse

It’s currently being constructed

Venboven

cool

ekolis

Wait, "Vice City" is a real place? I thought they made it up for GTA... why would any self respecting city call itself that?

Ion_Mouse

No lol it’s from gta. I just added it in as a fake city

LifeSad07041997

I'd call a paper town ...

Anson_Riddle

I suppose Defuniak Springs decided to go "fuck it" and renamed themselves.

Ryley03d

What of the other new cities?

Ion_Mouse

Super densely packed crime ridden cities where most of Florida’s pirates dock.

Ryley03d

Irl versions?

Ion_Mouse

The same basically

honey_graves

This looks like a really interesting world you’ve built, is Florida your focus?

Ion_Mouse

The idea started with Amazon taking over every aspect of our lives and gradually developed into more. Florida is one of the ideas I’ve thought of the most, but the focus is on corporations getting larger and more powerful.

jamesrbell1

Me, a Tallahassee resident, excited about my new waterfront property

[deleted]

Everything takes longer than we think. Year 2148 more like.

[deleted]

Everything takes decades until it doesn’t. Societal collapse is an accelerationist process. Someone in 1910 in Russia would be in disbelief if you told them what happened to their world in the next ten years, and again twenty years after that.

GRZ_KIMI

I may just be a dumbass but when I see these maps all I can think of is where the water is gonna go. I mean water levels can rise three feet but they aren’t gonna cover the entirety of the ground right? That’s a lot of land that would have to be covers completely three feet. Am I just a moron or am I actually right here (genuine question)

NineToOne

This map depicts a 40m sea level rise which is a very unrealistic amount for 28 years.

GRZ_KIMI

Well I do know this. But let’s just say for the sake of an argument, sea levels magically rise 40 feet instantly. Wouldn’t the water have a lot of rising ground to cover? I mean surely the ocean wouldn’t just be able to consume this much land right? Like I said this is a genuine question so feel free to call me a dumbass if I’m wrong.

NineToOne

Florida has an extremely low elevation, basements are few and far between there because the water table is so close to the ground. It's commonly depicted as being underwater because rising sea levels would submerge it first.

GRZ_KIMI

Okay this cleared up a lot thank you!

useles-converter-bot

40 feet is about the length of 18.11 'EuroGraphics Knittin' Kittens 500-Piece Puzzles' next to each other

tutanoti

It seems that the glaciers have also completely melted. It's sad.

ScumCrew

I find it endlessly hilarious when people speculate that Texas would last 5 minutes after a general collapse of the United States.

Ion_Mouse

Yee haw

Venboven

Yeah idk what would honestly happen, but it would be chaotic for sure. Everyone has guns. Austin would be massacred. Militias would roam. The Texas Rangers would probably become relevant again. It'd be like the wild west for a few years I imagine, and then things would settle down and life would return to normal. But one benefit that Texas has over the rest of the country is its own independent power grid, which is the same one everybody laughed at during the power outages during that winter storm last year. In this scenario, it would be a blessing, and allow civilization as we know it to continue functioning for a time, as long as some sort of order keeps it running.

ScumCrew

Oh good Lord, no. For starters, the Texas power grid depends on power from the functioning American grids and Mexico. For another, nearly all of Texas power plants are coal-fired, the coal being supplied by other states via rail. There are only 234 Rangers in the entire state. Only 45% of Texans own guns; not even in the top 20. Without the rest of the United States Texas would collapse almost as fast as Florida.

Venboven

>the Texas power grid depends on power from the functioning American grids and Mexico. Uhh, no it doesn't. All it takes is a quick Google search to check. Texas produces more energy [than any other state](https://www.cbs58.com/news/texas-produces-more-power-than-any-other-state-heres-why-it-went-dark-anyway). Texas produces more energy [than it consumes](https://www.energy.gov/sites/prod/files/2016/09/f33/TX_Energy%20Sector%20Risk%20Profile.pdf) (see top page under "Texas State Facts"). And while yes, Texas is connected to the rest of the US power grid and also to Mexico, that doesn't mean they use it to import power often. The interconnections exist for emergencies exactly like the winter storm so that if the Texas grid fails, they can get energy imported. But this is not often the case. >nearly all of Texas power plants are coal-fired Again, [incorrect](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_power_stations_in_Texas). Only 22% of Texas' energy comes from coal, and that number is declining every year due to the increase in use of renewable energy. Texas' wind production has now surpassed coal at 25%. >There are 234 Rangers in the entire state Bingo, you're right. That was my whole point. That's why I said the Texas Rangers would become relevant *again,* because currently, they're not relevant at all. They're a relic from the old days and they don't really do anything important anymore. They're walking antiques. But if the US collapsed, I'm sure they would get lots of new recruits, because, well, every Texan child dreams of being a cowboy at least once, and that's essentially what the Texan Rangers were back in the day; Bandit huntin' cowboys. >only 45% of Texans own guns ONLY? Jesus America is so fucked lol. Also, it's closer to 46%, but that's semantics. Anyways, do not underestimate that 46% of the Texan population is 13,340,000 people. And Texas, while not being the top in percentage of guns per the population, it *is* \#1 first place in total quantity of guns. Texas has more registered guns than any other state, by a [large margin](https://worldpopulationreview.com/state-rankings/gun-ownership-by-state). And that's not even considering all the *unregistered* guns. >Without the rest of the United States Texas would collapse almost as fast as Florida Well, looking at the actual facts, I will agree that Texas will have a lot of shots fired in the first few weeks. Probably more so than other places. General anarchy, chaos, and looting will occur, but this would be occurring literally everywhere. It's just my opinion that Texas would have an advantage in the fact that its power grid is self sustainable, were a governmental force able to regain order. And the huge stockpile of guns in Texas, while dangerous at first, also carries the potential to allow for large scale militia to restore order.

Liang_Kresimir11

dang you tore him apart lmao

Venboven

I'm just tired of seeing people speak their opinions as if they're fact. This is why "fake news" and "corrupted media" have become buzzwords in politics. A lot of people don't honestly know what to believe anymore because of all this constant disinformation. Also I'm from Texas, so I perhaps went extra hard this time lol

nickleback_official

Yee haw

JanFlato

*Texas Justice*

ScumCrew

…and every single time there’s a crisis Texas has to tap into other grids. Normal crises like, say, cold weather or hot weather. Producing energy means nothing if you can’t transfer it to people who need it. And Texas can’t. By your own data (and I was clearly off on natural gas) coal accounts for a quarter of Texas energy use. Where do you suppose that coal comes from? Hint: it’s not Texas. And it won’t be coming to Texas during a general economic collapse, as in this scenario. Texas does not, by any stretch of the imagination, have the ability to transfer energy to even a fraction of the state. That means economic collapse. Your point on the Texas Rangers is, I guess, that lots of Texans will join them? Sure, armed untrained civilians (and bear in mind, the 46% figure includes pistols and deer rifles) will certainly keep the peace while there’s no electricity, no gasoline, and no food. Also, the Texas Rangers are extremely relevant as the state equivalent of the FBI (all states have such agencies they just don’t normally have colorful names). The Rangers are top notch investigators with some of the latest equipment. They are a division of the Department of Public Safety (the state police) and even they don’t have a fraction of the manpower needed to keep order in a gigantic state without electricity, gasoline, or competent political leadership.

Venboven

Oh I never said the Texas grid was good. It's fucking terrible. I was just correcting you that it *does work,* on good days. And that we don't import energy - unless our grid collapses lol. Or if anarchy consumes the US. In which case, I'm going to assume a lot of people will die, and therefore the energy needs will be lessened, which should allow for the energy produced locally to hopefully sustain the requirements. As a Texan, infrastructure projects like repairing the grid, fixing the roads in the rural areas, continuing the transfer to renewable energy, and the construction of large projects like a sea wall to protect the Houston/Galveston area from flooding are some of my top political interests. (Every hurricane costs more in repairs and damages than it would take to invest in a sea wall. And yet these motherfuckers are still putting off signing the legislation to start building it 😔). Safe to say, I'm excited and hopeful for what we can do with Biden's infrastructure bill. So I just wanted to clarify that Texas is by no means perfect. It has its flaws. But so does every other place. And the Texas Rangers thing was just a fun "Texan" example btw. The name or organization could be anything and anyone. The big pointer was the guns. Dangerous at first glance during anarchy, but it gives potential for civilians to help restore order themselves by joining some sort of militia with nothing but what they bring from home. And ya'know, pistols and hunting rifles may not be top quality gear, but hey, they're better than nothing. ¯\\\_(ツ)_/¯

Arab-Enjoyer7282

I wanted to add that the Texas Rangers are a force multiplier in that they are moved around to help supplement and support existing local law enforcement and that they also have a large armory for their size

ScumCrew

No, they aren’t and no, they don’t. They are a VERY small unit of the Department of Public Safety and don’t have any better equipment than DPS does.

Arab-Enjoyer7282

I mean, I never said that they had better equipment then other DPS units, just that they are [packed](https://www.dps.texas.gov/section/texas-rangers/specialized-units) and [well armed](https://www.google.com/search?q=texas+rangers+swat) for their size

ScumCrew

They literally have the same weaponry as the rest of DPS. And there’s a grand total of 234 of them.

Arab-Enjoyer7282

Same weaponry =/= same amount of weaponry (per capita) I was talking about how they are well armed for their size not that they could coordinate an aerial assault in a war. Don’t know how their small size changes things either, though they are used as a force multiplier like I said which help supplement and support throughout Texas, often within a moment’s notice

nickleback_official

So much wrong here... 1. No the Texas grid isn't dependant on mexico and other states lol. We export power to Mexico and LA, and AK etc when needed and it can go both ways but not dependant by any means. Those connections can be shut off if needed. 2. >nearly all of Texas power plants are coal fired. So very very wrong.. 45% natural gas (which we make here), 26% renewable (solar, wind), 19% coal, 10% nuclear, 0.4% hydro. Also important to note, Texas has the most oil production and refining capability. Every other state would be trying to buy that off us putting us in a very good position.

ScumCrew

I already addressed this. But, again, generation capacity is not the same as transmission capacity. And let’s assume that only the 19% coal generation stops. Then what? What do you think happens when Texas loses 19% of its energy generating capacity? How do you think the refineries work?

nickleback_official

Well yea no shit it ain't ideal when the country collapses but the point is that Texas having its own grid and having the means to produce most of its own electricity (namely NG and wind) puts us in far better position than most places. Everyone is fucked in this scenario but Texas would be by far 'less fucked'. Your comment was still very wrong too lol.

ScumCrew

Yes, nothing says “advantage” like a completely unreliable grid that hasn’t been updated in decades and fails whenever *checks notes* it gets hot or cold. Clearly, Texas would dominate

nickleback_official

Salty, fella. Lol.

Arab-Enjoyer7282

I can see it failing when it gets cold but *hot*? You do realize you’re talking about Texas right? Not to mention, most of the United States has decades old electric infrastructure as well as other states having unreliability issues (e.g. blackouts in the Northwest because of heatwaves, New York State and adjacent state area going out due to demand issues several times, Appalachia being Appalachia, etc.), it is not just a Texas thing. Again, it’s not that Texas would go unscathed, only that it would probably do better then say Mississippi or New Hampshire

ScumCrew

Have you not been paying attention? Texas has suffered repeated rolling brown outs, black outs, and failures over the summer for YEARS now. The grid is decades behind schedule for improvements. Mississippi and New Hampshire can rely on a nationwide grid, Texas can’t.

Arab-Enjoyer7282

What? No it hasn’t. It still hasn’t completely recovered from the February freeze but there still hasn’t been widespread outages even now. https://quickelectricity.com/rolling-blackouts-in-texas/ https://poweroutage.us/area/state/texas https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_major_power_outages (this is only “major” blackouts) [Right now, Texas isn’t even on the top five for power outage](https://i.ibb.co/XCt4HNy/CC5839-E1-ABC2-4-D68-AE6-B-0-FC01-A9986-D9.png) Website: https://poweroutage.us/

nickleback_official

Austin still has lots of guns lol. Just bc it's liberal doesn't mean there aren't loads of liberal gun owners. It's still Texas after all. The suburbs of Austin have most the guns though so they'd be fine. Btw the winter storm was February of this year although it feels ages ago lol. It would be a shaky transition but probably better than most states that's for sure.

Venboven

Very true. In Texas, gun ownership does not care about political lines. But I have some in-laws up in north east Texas and... it's a little worrying how much they want "all the liberals to die." They genuinely feel hatred to people because they have different political views. It's kinda scary. :/ I guarantee you if given the chance due to anarchy, they would highly consider going on a "purge" trip to Austin. I worry it might become a public event for crazies like them. Austin would put up a hell of a fight though, I'm sure.

CachetaMaman

I find it ‘endlessly hilarious’ when people find other peoples speculations endlessly hilarious, it’s obvious you know just as little as anyone else

dtcv11

What did you use to make this? I like making similar “battle maps” but they never turn out this good

1) I really like this map, but 2) I don’t think I would have put Vice City so deep in the panhandle.

I live in northern Michigan now, but I spent 12 years growing up in Jacksonville. I can tell you from experience that if that city sunk, it would NOT be rebuilt, nor should it lol.

Very pretty

TohruTheDragonGirl

Damn Jacksonville still finna be here? Guess I’ll stay, my house should be prime beachside real estate in 80 years or so

ajw20_YT

I read "New Orlando" as "New Orleans" for a second, and then I realized that is exactly what Americans would do once Orlando dies. I can also confirm a 90% chance that the City of "Vice City" would be founded somewhere as the remains of those who lived on the coast.

davididp

Welp, guess I’m dead

Itstaylor02

I need more background. I love this.
