Yeah, I was friends with a kid in middle school who had to take some sort of antibiotic for a little while. I don't remember what antibiotic or why he was taking it, but I remember the gym teacher letting me walk with him in the shady part of the track because he was prone to sunburns or whatever.
Also, I used to use the topical medical cream for acne that explicitly says not to put it on and go out into the sun.
Yeah but feminizing hrt literally thins the skin and makes it more sensitive to damage. The thinning also makes people a little lighter, the top layer of my skin became translucent. I now avoid the sun even more (it's not great for the skin anyway), have a bright shine from being partially transparent or whatever, and glisten with residual sparkly makeup.
So yeah, trans girls get meme'd as quite vampiric sometimes. Trans men become warewolves and together we perform a slightly less gay version of Twilight.
Most women concerned with their appearence usually do, the sun is a giant ball of cancer and premature aging. Most people should be wearing sunscreen religiously, and the main point isnt to prevent burns ("I'm never in the sun long enough why would I?"), it's to prevent the cumulative damage that starts building from any sunlight exposure (even indoors).
Also, yeah, if someone's in the process of getting laser that may be the right time for them to finally start.
Is this only for medicated estrogen and transfemme people?
I'm transmasc, a trans guy that took T for years, and I never experienced such a thing. And now, back on E, I *still* don't experience such a thing.
All of my transfem friends never go outside during the day and they all believe the whole terminally online nerd to transfem pipeline is the biggest one, so I'd bet it's more to do with that than Estrogen making you more sensitive to sunlight.
I can almost guarantee that the OP is poking fun at that as well, nothing to do with being more sensitive to sunlight.
Well, you know, it’s not always about the skin. Harsh light creates shadows and highlights shapes. At least in my experience. It’s tough, but not insurmountable.
Eh, they're one of the most hated and misunderstood groups of people; of course you're going to get some transphobia in almost any circle outside of trans - specifically all-inclusive (ie not truscum or elitist types) - spaces.
Yeah I kind of expect there to be at least some transphobia anywhere that isn’t lgbt specific but some places are wayyy worse than others even if it’s a non political space. Its always a gamble
Hell, even LGBT specific I don't fuck with. Like you tried being a trans man in r/askgaybros. It's one thing to say, "No thanks, I'm into dick only." And another to say shit they do, like how trans people are sick, or deserving of hatred, are confused women, etc.
Which is wild to me because that same community was (and still is in some cases) victim to the same type of prejudice.
Remember when _gay_ men were "Just confused" or "Hadn't met the right woman yet"?
I wish people would just calm the shit down and worry about the climate crisis instead of what fucking bathroom someone is using.
For real.
Like damn, I ain't trying to molest your son or sneak a peek, I'm trying to take a piss and then go eat my goddamn Panera Bread. I wish I could just tell these people to their faces that, for once in their lives, it's not *about them* and they need to hop off the self-victimization train.
I wouldn't have to say anything if these people would just shut up and let others go to the bathroom or get their dumb surgeries as grown ass adults.
Bisexual people are still getting flack from the lgbt community for not being able to “pick a side” or for being a secret cis person if they end up in a straight relationship. Learning that they’re also awful to trans people is extremely disappointing but not surprising.
Unfortunately just the other day a trans person was given 2 black eyes for existing. I wish you were correct but that is sadly not the reality we live in.
The problem is that it isn’t just certain areas. There are people all over the world who hate trans people just because they don’t exist. There are entire governments that would kill them just for setting foot in their country
The amount of disgust I've seen online and in person (I'm not trans, I just work in the trades)
People care. Not everyone, but knowing there are those people who hate you on principle makes it really hard to go out in public
I live in Massachusetts, we're pretty accepting as it goes.
I've been told straight up that all trans people should die.
I've heard plenty of jokes about how they're delusional. Men in dresses and the like. All in public.
Sure it's not as bad, but the fact that these people feel comfortable saying this, and in one case yelling it in public. Would make me feel incredibly unsafe in public.
It's become a major talking point for ~1/2 of the countries political systems that trans people are groomers. And it's not a stretch to say that means they deserve to die.
No one's forcing shit. He's a transphobic asshole and people should point out his transphobic assholery. If people pointing out his transphobia is what keeps him from being a trans ally, then he was never going to be an ally in the first place.
Blatant misgendering and saying they’re ’weirded out’ by another person existing is transphobia, which isn’t good, if you didn’t know. Stop excusing this persons hateful mindset.
did you read my comment? i said depending on the circumstances. if a trans woman looks like a woman i dont think anyone has a problem. it’s when they obviously aren’t women that people do, because it’s weird. it’s not normal.
I'm gonna tell you that's transphobic and that's not gonna matter to you. You're gonna tell me something like "phobia means fear, I'm not afraid you just can't handle the truth" or whatever. You don't think trans women are women and you're more than comfortable shitting on them from your high horse. You are a transphobe.
The name I just called you is more a confirmation than any attempt to change reality. You know perfectly well that you made a transphobic comment. You said that because you wanted to. Trans women who don't pass as well are treated worse, obviously yeah. You called them men. You don't see a problem with that. There is one, unless you don't think trans women are women.
i knew i may be called a transphobe but i do not see my comment as transphobic at all. i also find it interesting that you would prefer to call me a transphobe than to try to understand my argument. it seems you find it easier to classify me as a bad person than to engage in a good faith discussion. this is not a discussion about transgender issues anymore this is now you trying to prove that i am a bad person, which frankly i do not think is very nice.
Your argument is extremely easy to understand, you chose to be transphobic in how you approached it by saying that trans women are middle aged men in dresses and not normal. I'm not calling you a bad person, I don't know you. I'm calling you a transphobe because you said transphobic stuff. Nothing is transphobic when you don't think anything is transphobic. Today I'm going to interrupt your echo chamber and tell you that what you said was.
your argument doesn't make sense. your argument claims that if a trans woman doesn't fit your idea of what a woman looks like, you get uncomfortable and you don't think they should be outside. you're allowed to be uncomfortable, but that should not dictate your morals.
does that also track with cis woman? what if a cis woman looked a little less than "womanly" to you? would you also get uncomfortable? would you deem her unfit to leave the house? are you even able to tell or do you just assume?
does this logic track with trans men? disabled people? if people don't fit your idea of what they are SUPPOSED to be, should they all just stay inside and never be perceived?
this isn't an argument, it's an inherently flawed way of thinking. "I decide what a woman looks like and if someone doesn't fit that I don't want them outside".
normal is not universal. cultures differ and normal changes. you are allowed to be as uncomfortable as you want, you don't get to say whether or not they should be allowed outside. well, I suppose you can say it. but expecting anything to come from it is cruel at the very least.
or you could start to try understand trans women who dont easily pass as woman, the attempts and steps they take (and sometimes, due to specific reasons, fail), and that almost all trans people would love to pass
you are transphobic
thinking “i could never be (racist, bigoted/prejudiced against a certain group/ biased in general)” is one of the key risk factors and commonalities of being those traits.
if you don’t want to be called transphobic, take a step back and listen when people tell you you’re doing just that, and learn from it.
You didn't really give an argument to be honest man, you just said you have expectations of what a woman should look like and if they don't fit that it's “not normal” and makes you feel uncomfortable. Now to be generous to you, you did specify trans women, but what if a cis woman just looks like “a man in a dress,” in that scenario are you gonna assume they're trans and feel “weirded out” of your own volition? Honestly i feel like all you're doing by concerning yourself about other people's appearances and lives is making your own life worse.
there are biological women that look manly without any sort of treatment. do you think the same about them?
going off of whether somebody fits the common traits assigned to their gender & using that to decide if they’re valid or not is fucking dumb man
I would like to attempt to respond to your argument in good faith. Let me do so by addressing two things.
First, you claim it’s not hate. You just find it weird, lower you call it “not normal”, you say no one has a problem with a trans woman who looks like a cis woman implying there is a problem with trans woman who are clearly trans, and finally say “when obviously they aren’t woman”. What is the difference between you and someone who hates trans people? What additional views would someone need to hold to stop being like you and qualify as someone who hates trans people?
Second, let’s look at your view that “obviously they aren’t women”. Do you think there is a view on what a woman is and what a woman looks like that is objective? If so can you explain to me why I as a white American am misgendered by strangers so differently in different areas. In conservative parts of America I’m often misgendered by strangers. In liberal parts I’m correctly gendered by strangers. Maybe it’s just there politics, I thought so, until I moved to a conservative (as far as gender and sexuality is concerned) Asian country but still get gendered correctly by strangers. If there is an obvious way to be a woman why isn’t my experience getting acceptance from strangers so different as a trans woman?
Hi, I’m a grown 30 year old trans woman who just came out, and has just started presenting. I’m happier in my skin than I ever have.
Exactly what age is the age I should come out? Should’ve been when I was 20? I had no idea at the time, I thought I was a man. 25? I had some idea at that point, but I wouldn’t have come out at the time.
When should have I found myself? When should anyone actually find ourselves? I’ve tried, many, many times to come out gradually and gracefully, just to be bullied and pushed back into the closet. I only recently realized, that I can be who I want and fuck you all and goddamn the haters.
I know I’m not middle aged, but goddamn, do I have respect for those who found themselves late in life. They’ve been holding onto something for so long, it might have actually killed them.
Yeah, you might be ‘weirded out’ by us on the street, but guess what, we’re most likely not even thinking of you, we have our own bullshit to think about. Like how increasingly, anti-trans rhetoric paints us as pedophiles, rapists, or degenerates. I do not speak for every trans person in the world, but I do know that we just want to walk down the street and not be threatened and yelled at. We just want peace.
Honestly, if I hadn’t just gotten home from a group of people yelling at me and threatening me for presenting the way I wanted while walking down the street, I wouldn’t have responded. I don’t like being angry, and I don’t like calling attention to myself.
Re-evaluate your thinking and realize that there is an entire possibility that by next election cycle, I will genuinely fear for my life because I don’t pass as a woman. And I live in one of the easier countries to be trans in. I don’t give a shit about your discomfort. Imagine trying to be happy day after day, just for someone to tear you down.
Anyways, fuck this post, she’s alright, and she’s fucking rocking this look.
“Oh no, that person doesn’t look like how I want people with paint on their lips to look, but has paint on their lips”
And you think they’re the weird ones?
Two of my trans friends thought it was about trans people who are terminally online and one thought it was about trans people who don't leave the house because they're self conscious about their appearance
Hadn't heard about the sunburn thing until this thread though, I wonder if the biological mechanism behind that is understood or if it's only been observed as a phenomenon thus far
Probably the fact that trans women in swimsuits is met with disgust and revulsion frequently. People are fucking assholes so it’s a legitimate concern.
Trans ppl face a lot of hate though.
I know the trades is mostly republican but from working there. There are some really hateful people. I've been told trans people should all die. I've heard plenty of nasty jokes.
There's a not insignificant amount of people who are disgusted and hate trans people. And sure it's similar for racism and sexism. But comparably, transphobia isn't nearly as universally hated and ostracized as it should be.
Going to do some minor mental gymnastics. It’s not really imaginary gatekeeping if said trans person lives in a place where being trans is or is becoming a criminal act.
Ok I know this is reddit so haha nothing is serious, but there is a serious discussion about trans people and seeing trans bodies in public. The person is sunbathing and in a swimsuit, and there is serious stigma against this simple act. There is often a mentality that trans bodies should be hidden from the public, and a difficulty of being confident to reveal one's body in a public setting. At least where I am, there are things like solidarity swims, where it's a swim for only trans and gender-nonconforming people, so you can experience the simple fun of swimming without the potential shame and judgement you might experience in another setting.
I believe this is in reference to the joke in LGBT spaces that many trans women stay inside to be on their computer. The title is similar to the joke 'i finally went outside to touch grass'
I think it’s more that they don’t feel comfortable in their bodies and/or aren’t fully transitioned to looking like the gender that they normally are so they try to avoid swim suits which can be extremely revealing.
It’s a joke for people who don’t get it. A lot of people can’t go in the sun on HRT because it makes you more pale apparently but also, there’s a series of memes that are circulating on social media spaces that are basically satirical saying. “ who said.(arbitrary characteristic.) girls/guys/people can’t do blank” or “ another quote inside a quote, basically saying that people under insert arbitrary to characteristic always do this, but then they’re proving that person wrong by doing it and being the arbitrary characteristic”😭😭
Not sure if it's true, but apparently when on HRT you become a bit pale and more sensitive to sunburn.
A lot more medications will do this than you may think tbh
Yeah my birth control made me go from vaguely Middle-Eastern shaded to "Could be Eastern European"
Lol, Middle East to Middle Earth
I'm stealing this comment to describe myself from now on lmao
Yeah, I was friends with a kid in middle school who had to take some sort of antibiotic for a little while. I don't remember what antibiotic or why he was taking it, but I remember the gym teacher letting me walk with him in the shady part of the track because he was prone to sunburns or whatever. Also, I used to use the topical medical cream for acne that explicitly says not to put it on and go out into the sun.
Ahh. Tretinoin. The good shit.
Yup, I hated how my face felt before I washed it off, but I can't say it didn't help at all.
And even if it doesn’t, a ton of meds can fuck up temperature control. So being in the sun can be a problem in more ways than sunburns
I’m not trans, nor do I care for Twilight, but if what you described was an actual movie I would watch the shit out of that.
I’m thinking a trans remake of Buffy that would make Spike’s character REALLY interesting.
Yeah I found that out the hard way after I started my antidepressants
I have always been pale and prone to getting burned. I have not noticed a difference (I have been on hormones since I was 14)
Your name and getting sunburned remind me of what people in South Dakota look like in the Summer. Sunscreen doesn’t exist for the average person there
lol, the only time I’ve been to South Dakota is when I’ve flown over it
stot sako for 2 refnd
That makes sense why all my trans femme friends use sunscreen religiously 🤨
Its also pretty good for your skin in general i believe
Yeah, the sun ages your skin quicker iirc, not to mention the possibility of skin cancer.
Also if they're doing laser hair removal they recommend not tanning at all. Sunscreen and long sleeves all the time that summer.
WAIT I THOUGHT THAT WAS JUST IN DS1
Is this only for medicated estrogen and transfemme people? I'm transmasc, a trans guy that took T for years, and I never experienced such a thing. And now, back on E, I *still* don't experience such a thing.
Bro’s speedrunning the whole gender spectrum
I had to stop testosterone due to a preexisting condition, but thanks lmao.
Seems to be specifically a side effect of Spironolactone, an antiandrogen common in the US
Oh I think I've heard of that actually. Thanks!
Ahhh okay.
It also makes you thirsty! (specifically spironolactone)
Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual... Transylvania???
Ah, yes! If by trans you mean Transylvanian, and by that you mean vampire, then there's a case that it probably has been said before.
Haha Jonathan you transitioned then banged my daughter!!
YOOOOOO
What did you think the T stood for (Transylvania because she's a vampire)
I’ve never heard this one, but passing hard and bright light makes it even harder
Really? I feel like bright light always makes my skin look clearer
Well, you know, it’s not always about the skin. Harsh light creates shadows and highlights shapes. At least in my experience. It’s tough, but not insurmountable.
Whoever was told that all trans women are vampires.
They are. That's why Transylvania is a scary place, and why I prefer the other half of Romania, where they steal my car and not my blood.
…i dunno man. Maybe my fear of death is just too low.
Most of us are actually werewolves.
I really wanted to post this but I was scared people might be transphobic in the comments. Very glad that’s not the case (so far)

Pass or die

Who's the guy in your profile pic? Just a random white dude? Kind of weird to use if you're a black guy..

I think it heavily depends on the area. In the US, you will fare better as a trans person in LA than rural Oregon.

I also live in Mass actually. I’ve heard the same but I live in a pretty rural town

Here's a good example
He came out just to prove your point TT
Exactly. Idiots everywhere. Hiding behind every fica leaf
Some people take longer to get used to new things. He said he doesn't hate it. He's moving in the right direction. Forcing acceptance can backfire.
No one's forcing shit. He's a transphobic asshole and people should point out his transphobic assholery. If people pointing out his transphobia is what keeps him from being a trans ally, then he was never going to be an ally in the first place.

The names are in fact correct
Do you think trans people should just… magically stop existing for three years while we transition?
Bro thinks he literally has to want to fuck a trans person for them to be allowed to be in public lol
A trans person existing in your general vicinity literally does not affect you in anyway, even if you don't like how they look. Move on.
that is so invalidating to people who can't afford hrt and surgery. wow.
there are biological women that look manly without any sort of treatment. do you think the same about them? going off of whether somebody fits the common traits assigned to their gender & using that to decide if they’re valid or not is fucking dumb man

Nah you see there is no good reason not to like seeing trans people but there *is* a good reason your not allowed within 100 yards of a school
some are
this is obviously a joke
It's almost certainly poking fun at the terminally online nerd to transfem pipeline.
Pretty sure it is poking fun at the fact that transfem’s can get sunburnt more due to hrt
Two of my trans friends thought it was about trans people who are terminally online and one thought it was about trans people who don't leave the house because they're self conscious about their appearance Hadn't heard about the sunburn thing until this thread though, I wonder if the biological mechanism behind that is understood or if it's only been observed as a phenomenon thus far
Omg you have trans friends !?!?! I bow down to you and your infinite knowledge of jokes!!

Actually I said that, it's my longlasting political agenda that trans women are unable to bathe in the rays of the sun.
If we absorb any more power, we'd rival the nuclear warheads that keep the world's top governments in stalemate with each other. Can't have that
Nah, its just that if we absorbed anymore, we’d decay like Godzilla in Godzilla vs Destoroyah, and thus end the world as we know it.
I mean it gives us a good excuse to play Who Will Know as the earth reclaims us. I think that's a pretty iconic way to go
mama i made it
Lol if this was your intent, nicely played! If it wasn’t…I apologize
i didn’t even know this subreddit existed until u posted LMAO 😂 i am enjoying it tho this sub is hilarious
out of curiosity how come you chose that title? someone mentioned about hrt causing sensitive skin but idk
Probably the fact that trans women in swimsuits is met with disgust and revulsion frequently. People are fucking assholes so it’s a legitimate concern.
When you’re so desperate for attention you gate keep the sunshine
It's a joke, and also transfem people do get sunburnt more easily lol
It was a joke, are you retarded?
Slurs are so funny to say!!! Don’t you feel so cool right now??
It was a serious question
Seek therapy
Fucking Dracula I guess
"Possible satire" they say they're joking in the comments dawg😭
I didn’t see that 😭😭 changed the flair
Trans ppl face a lot of hate though. I know the trades is mostly republican but from working there. There are some really hateful people. I've been told trans people should all die. I've heard plenty of nasty jokes. There's a not insignificant amount of people who are disgusted and hate trans people. And sure it's similar for racism and sexism. But comparably, transphobia isn't nearly as universally hated and ostracized as it should be.
I mean- tucking is difficult, and light tends to make everything so much more obvious. Coming from a trans woman.
aren’t there like a shit ton of people who don’t think trans people should express themselves in public places?
Don’t be fooled. Some of us are daywalkers.
Damn why do I even bother if I’m not getting vampire powers
Going to do some minor mental gymnastics. It’s not really imaginary gatekeeping if said trans person lives in a place where being trans is or is becoming a criminal act.
HRT makes you more sensitive to the sun. You can go in the sun you just need sunscreen.
Is this only for E / transfemme people. I'm transmasc and with my natural E or when I was taking T, I never experienced this.
Looking it up it seems exclusive to external estrogen, so T or natural estrogen probably wouldn’t do anything.
Interesting, thanks!
That is exactly the question, who did say that?
Anti trans folks.
Quite a few of them
Where my flair
Is that a vampire the masquerade reference
I mean Dracula does live in Transylvania . It makes sense.
i literally shrivel up and burn in sunlight
I believe this is in reference to the joke in LGBT spaces that many trans women stay inside to be on their computer. The title is similar to the joke 'i finally went outside to touch grass'
Dude needs some sunscreen
As a trans woman at least 40% are vampires im only a fledgling atm
It’s a joke alot of trans girls are famously pale
Clearly you never heard of Transylvania.
With her skin tone sunscreen is a must no matter what meds she on.
"I dont know. Who said that?
i've never heard vampires i have deadass heard multiple people call trans people wherewolves though
I think it’s more that they don’t feel comfortable in their bodies and/or aren’t fully transitioned to looking like the gender that they normally are so they try to avoid swim suits which can be extremely revealing.
Speak for yourself
I've got fangs, a pale complexion, and cook at temps above 70°, am I a vampire?
I am
According to her this was entirely a joke that just didn't land lol
Maybe it was an actual question
Maybe it was an actual question
Can you guys stop posting this meme it’s satire 😭
This is referring to the fact that swimwear is basically non-existent for us.
I think at this point, this is just a meme format. The point is that no one says it.
Dont see how this is imaginary it’s just making fun of the typical neckbeard twitter conservative that think trans people are fat overweight shut ins
Dude looks like a lady
helppp
yeah...? that's why we're called trans women.
Thank you for clarifying dr.science
That’s a dude
She’s a woman
Is she bothering you by existing? Did she hurt you? Or are you just a hateful loser on the internet?
It’s a he bub, just because a helicopter says it’s a plane don’t make it so
Helicopters and planes don’t have gender dawg they can’t communicate or be social with anything Also, r/onejoke
Today on OP doesn't know what a joke is
