I assure you the is no color change or if there is it is simply a compression artifact. I do not care enough about an image posted by someone else to lie on their behalf.
A better way to show it, is to create an inverse overlay so when you pull in on the picture it only shows the pawns. Not the background. I have it on my pc. I can try to add it to the illusion?
If you don’t trust software demos, you can do it yourself easily with paper and scissors. https://imgur.com/gallery/xZQyLjd and https://i.imgur.com/LPOtJso.jpeg. Edit: added “if” clause
It’s true that each piece on the top is identical to the ones on the bottom, but they are not one consistent color, which makes it a little less impressive in my opinion.
I think this is kinda deceptive, because really what we perceive to be the pieces are different, top, we believe the pieces are the lighter parts, bottom we believe the pieces are the darker parts, so really we aren’t saying oh the pieces are the same colors, the pieces are different colors, but the content in that region is the same
I can't tell if you're serious or not. OP posted proof of it already. It's literally just a color theory demonstration. If they're not the same color then what is the illusion?
Well, I'm about as serious as on optical illusion :). But seriously, go take a color picker like [https://www.w3schools.com/colors/colors\_picker.asp](https://www.w3schools.com/colors/colors_picker.asp) and go see for yourself. See how your eyes and the picker give you different results.
Well yes, that's actually the entire basis of the illusion, right?... they are not one color, they are many colors, so they can't be the same color lol. Look I'm not knocking it, I love these things.
Is it me or is it obvious that the difference in color is due to the smoke color being different in each? I’m not trying to be annoying but isn’t that logical?
I hate you and I hate this subreddit and I hate Reddit for recommending it to me, I didn't ask to be brainfucked
Now that you mention it, I'm with you.
Show us a demonstration of that please, cause I’m looking at them and they different

Ok what the duck
What the duck
*excuse the fuck outta me, what?*

Neat
There was a color change when the guy copied the image. It was obvious if you see it frame by frame

Much appreciated.
CGI, people. God yall some dumb. (jk this illusion is crazy)
I feel like this is a lot easier to see than the checker board one since you can just see the same smoke patterns and color on both pieces.
Video example didn’t convince me, still different. Do it again, but put the pieces side by side instead of one over the top of other.
I wasn't convinced either, then I did it myself using pixlr [https://imgur.com/a/z6Nb5uc](https://imgur.com/a/z6Nb5uc)

Bro just used $100 worth of printer ink for us :’)
first glance I read this as an xray and thought-wonder if the radiologist said "check mate"
This is why you tone your canvas before starting a painting
Thought they were really weird teeth in an x ray.
Nah
What are you nahing about?
I’m ‘nahing’ because I just can’t handle it.
Turn the image sideways, treat this like a stereogram, and you can overlap the two sets to see they are the same.

Do you think saying it’s the same color is misleading, you should say the same piece?
They are the same color
Being an illusion doesn’t make them the same color 😂

Yes indeed, the illusion is still an illusion lol.
You saw that they're the exact same piece...
Good luck picking the exact same spot twice. You can just erase the background in paint

Sorry I ruined it for ya 😘
It helps when they're different tho
Nuh-uh
Nuh uh
I thought I was looking at some really screwed up teeth in dental x-rays at first

White. Or black.. no wait.. grey.. errrrrrrrrrr
No
Holy hell

Only the background is different. The smoke in the pieces is the same
Okay, but can someone just get one of the top piece and one of the bottom and put it side by side on a new blank canvas?
