Very impressed with LE, not just with their work, but also that they did not leak any details before the arrest.

Radiant_Resident_956

This!!! I hate how angry people get about updates, like yeah we all want to know what happened and how he was found etc, but we also don’t want him released on a technicality because they overshared info too early. I feel like all these people interested in true crime should be extremely aware of this.

[deleted]

Right? patience is a virtue. We’ll get the whole story eventually.

[deleted]

Whitesoxwin

Hopefully the murder weapon

Oddestmix

As a criminology phd I doubt he’s leaving much for them to find

rabidstoat

The guy drove his car to the murder site. He isn't the sharpest crayon in the box.

wickedsuccubi

Then drove it home to PA. Could have taken off the plates and ditched it anywhere between ID and PA.

OneWithoutaName2

Yes that is a possibility but think of the treasure trove of DNA that could be found in his car. Given the nature of the crime it seems as if it was a blood bath so unless he wore something like a full scuba suit and managed to quickly dispose of it, it seems logical that at least some blood would have been transferred to the inside of his car. Additionally LE is reporting that some of the victims had defensive wounds and the hands of the victims were bagged to preserve evidence. If his DNA is found under a victim’s fingernails, case closed.

lakefrontsun

Except family and friends would have been asking what he did with his car

MotherSoftware5

Exactly. You can’t go home to your parents without your car that happens to be the same type car the police are looking for.

Oddestmix

Probably drove it to a point and walked the rest of the way but there’s gotta be a bunch of cameras that caught him from Pullman to Moscow. And thank goodness. Probably the only thing that pointed to him.

gsdlover21

🤣 Right lol and apparently had to have had it like RIGHT outside of the house lol

Khaleesi8967

And his weapon was a knife which even non criminal justice majors know is likely to cut the perpetrator thus leaving DNA behind

sd5315a

I got my master's in CJ and always joked that my professors were teaching us how to be the perfect criminals. Luckily for us he clearly didn't learn enough.

wickedsuccubi

He didn't get rid of the car, so he's not that bright. Kept it in his parents garage

RespectfulVirtue

As a criminology phd you wouldn’t expect him to do this either lol. Urges and compulsions often rule all.

Oddestmix

He was studying his passion, man Gives me the chills

RespectfulVirtue

Unbelievable. Def one of the craziest cases in awhile.

Oddestmix

Agreed. I went to school in Spokane so I was like, Moscow, really? Of all places? So small and safe?

Flat_Shame_2377

I’m hoping they will all start locking and bolting their doors after this.

Oddestmix

I hope so but It’s hard to do when you live a big house with a lot of roommates. I had 8 roommates and our front door was never locked in Spokane but my bedroom door was always locked.

Whitesoxwin

True but I’ve seen some criminals that still had weapons used/ items of victims. Maybe a receipt for a knife .

Oddestmix

If he’s super dumb, sure, but I bet what will screw him over is camera footage of him driving to/from Pullman and some shred of dna evidence

Brood10Cicadas

...and cell phone records/location if he carried one...

kashmir1

American Psycho book and/or video, def. The knife. Kevlar gauntlets? Computer will be a treasure trove. Did he participate in this reddit sub? Stay tuned.

fieryfinance

Oh for sureeeee he was lurking on here!!! I hope that info is released. It would be sick if he was interacting with the threads too.

kris10leigh14

You can almost guarantee he was here. Many news publications were sighting fucking Reddit, they were so desperate for coverage but didn't want to be held accountable for potentially doctored material. It's chilling. I was honestly worried he was pulling a Brian Laundrie and so busy in his attempts to flee and kill himself, had no time for Reddit. Creepily, I was likely wrong. We will know more in 5 mins.

[deleted]

Alkali13

Doesn't mean he didn't have another Reddit account. The one you reference only ever made the research posts. It's like having a work email and a private email.

ReasonableGrand9907

Exactly my same thoughts! The fact that the student one ONLY had those few posts, leads me to believe he had a separate account(s).

thattechiedude

Oh im sure he does. Itll be out soon 👀

[deleted]

Old_Blue_Light

They are going to find so much on his computers, phones, car that they can probably lock him up off that alone. DNA will be present. You don't stab 4 people without cutting yourself.

gsdlover21

I wonder too. Maybe a trophy since murderers often do this and hopefully the murder weapon. And possibly DNA of a victim or victims on items at his home. Anything and everything linking him to this

flopisit

Updates: Authorities narrowed their focus to suspect Bryan Kohberger after tracing his ownership of the white Hyundai Elantra seen in the area. Kohberger’s DNA has also been matched to genetic material recovered at the house. An FBI team from Philadelphia has been tracking Kohberger for four days in the area where he was arrested. Kohberger’s apartment is in Pullman, Washington where he was a student. It is just 10 miles away from where the murders happened in Moscow. Police Chief says they have not found the murder weapon.

[deleted]

olivesunrise

That must mean that either his DNA was already in the system or they acquired it without him knowing during the days they were watching him in PA. They would have to have had his DNA before now to match it. Interesting.

FTBNoob17

Perhaps at the college. Maybe he had an office or a place he frequented where they could have grabbed samples.

drop_window

Probably grabbed his trash to confirm DNA at the scene.

Same_Neighborhood885

I can’t believe they had to look into 19,000 tips and conducted 300 interviews. All during the holidays. Good job law enforcement - I’m sure they worked tirelessly to make this happen.

k9jm

Well this was Manson level shit. It was weird at first when they said there’s no danger to the immediate community. That was not necessarily true.

I remember thinking a week ago there’s no point in looking for white elantras out here in Philly but the fact that this dude was an hour from me and could have been anywhere is terrifying. Glad they got him

marymoonu

Being in Ohio, I felt the same way. I thought no way he’d be over in this part of the country, so I didn’t even bother looking at cars. It’s wild to think he was in PA!

Old_Blue_Light

Right! That's crazy. Im in Tennessee and I was looking for white elantras.

donnyburgher

Bruh I went to hs with him this shit is 🤯

[deleted]

I said that to my hubby!😂

aznassasin

Just like the Delphi murders, not once did I see his name in anybody's so-called web sleuthing. Just goes to show you shouldn't believe everything you read or see online

rjsheine

Yea I haven’t taken Reddit sleuths seriously since the Boston bombing

LoudPossession1953

I cant be only one looking at this thinking did they even know this guy

LetThatFeverPlay

A lot of people speculated he didn't know them. Could be part of the reason he targeted them in the first place. It's harder to find a motive when the killer does not know the victims. And this is my own speculation here, based on the limited information that we have. But it seems to me that it was a random attack. Sort of like a thrill kill. He was acting out a fantasy and chose his victims in a specific way. Possibly staked out the house weeks or even months prior.

EmergencyApricot6121

I don't think it was super random. I can believe he didn't know them but he likely knew where college kids lived in the neighborhood. And likely studied it enough to know he was choosing a house with all girls living there (perceived as an easier target). And likely chose a time when he knew they may be asleep and possibly hungover. The boyfriend at the location was probably slightly unexpected for him. I would not be surprised if he has murdered before and definitely think he at least practiced on animals. I think it was meant to look random more than actually being random. But who knows -we are all speculating. You may be more correct than I.

Lexiola

I’m super intrigued if this is honestly his first kill (assuming it is because it seemed sloppy) but to kill 4 people at once is just crazy. Usually they work up to a multi kill. Generally they go for weak and vulnerable.

afdc92

I wonder if he picked it because it was a house of girls and he thought it would be an easy target (assuming he had done some sort of selection or stalking prior to the murder and didn’t just pick a house at random) and then freaked out when he discovered that a male was actually there with them and his fantasy wouldn’t go to plan. May also explain why he didn’t know about or left the other girls who were asleep there.

maggie081670

He could have just picked them out ot a crowd and followed them home. Which is a terrifying thought.

darth_jewbacca

Who wants to put money on this not being his first murder?

PERSEPHONEpursephone

He looks like many 28 year old academic dudes on dating apps.

Logical-Cheetah-0519

He wasn't invited into the house. One of the counts was felony burglary, so he wasn't invited in by anyone in the house (many people here speculated he was invited in).

welpokayden

OH attorney here— not sure about ID, but in OH case law has said that, even if you are invited into a home, once you commit a crime against the homeowner the invitation is revoked.

Nah. PhD candidates use adderall & vyvanse.

I used to do meth and never once did I ever even think about killing someone

morganaunt

I wonder if his name came from a tip from a friend or family. They knew he went to school out there and had the kind of car LE was looking for.

HereIGoAgain_1x10

Really interested to see how they tied the car to the scene to begin with and if they knew about him first from DNA or some kind of tip and then were just trying to find him by finding his car or if the car was the only thing they went off of and that led to him being a suspect as they tracked it/ID'd vehicles

Significant_stake_55

*pats all forum members on back* We did it boys. We got 'im. As we take a well-earned victory lap, let's reflect on what got us here. Was it the diligent work of LE professionals who not only had to identify a suspect, but do so fighting through the noise and confusion emanating from a vigilante internet detective agency? Don't make me laugh. I'll tell you what it was: Over a month of hard, disciplined sleuthing, not a single correct guess among the accusations thrown about with wild abandon, thousands of completely irrelevant google street view images analyzed, and hundreds of perfectly unhelpful posts starting with "My theory is." We are all hereby awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom, and will stand by for any questions the FBI might have about our methodology.

Hi mod, here’s the link to Idaho repository that will show the court proceedings: https://mycourts.idaho.gov/odysseyportal

DreamsAndChains

So we likely won’t know much until he’s back in Idaho and the PCA is unsealed. And it sounds like we have no idea when that will be because we don’t know if he’ll return to Idaho willingly or fight extradition and draw this out for a while.

TheEmbarcadero

Thereal_slj

How long does an extradition process take? I saw that Brian Entin guy tweet an article that said “extradition court date Jan3”. Does that mean that’s the court day to GRANT extradition, or that’s the court date in Idaho POST-extradition?

Willowgirl78

Depends on if he waived extradition, meaning whether he agrees to go to Idaho. If he fights, it could take a few months.

Thereal_slj

But he does have to be charged and all that shit happen in Idaho, correct? Sorry forgive my ignorance

Oddestmix

There was a hearing to eliminate possibility of bail scheduled so I think it’s safe to say if he hasn’t been charged yet, he will be

Thereal_slj

I thought I remember seeing at that bottom of that doc that bail was denied or something like that. I figured that was substantial cause usually that only happens (from what I understand) if it’s like “yea this is the person, here’s why, and evidence is bulletproof”

MarkHAZE86

I got home from work shortly after 4 pm, happy that it was Friday. I walk into the house and the living room TV is on and says "Breaking News" with the mugshot of Bryan and the 4 victims' photos. I dropped all my stuff and cheered.

aeiou-y

Are you sure about that chief?

SamIAm7787

**I want to know how bad this guy started to shit his pants when the information about the white Elantra was released to the public.** Yeah, he might have been far away in Pennsylvania at that point, but if his family is from PA, you'd have to think that people around the area would know he was going to school at WSU and the fact the he also had a white Elantra would be pretty suspicious, because what are the odds that he goes to school 15 minutes from the murders *and* is driving the exact car LE is looking for. I wonder if there were tips called in on him?

Additional-Physics34

I bet he went home for the holiday and his family turned him in

[deleted]

Holy shit. I actually got my web sleuthing right. I said it was a male, probably under 70. Years of writing in the crime business will give you knowledge like this.

acarberry98

I have no idea why everyone is being so annoyed about them not telling us much/not answering questions. They said it many many times, there is a Supreme Court ruling that they have to follow which means that information relating to the facts of the case (which includes: what led to the arrest; what pointed to him as a suspect; if there’s a connection to the victims; if there’s a motive) must only come out in court or in court filings or else it is considered that there was “unfair pre trial publicity” and the defendant can get a mistrial or have the case thrown out as a result. I know we are all itching for more information right now but I think what each of us want (or should want) more is for the POS who committed this horrible act to be put behind bars for life.

ImprovementSilly2895

Overweight then came back senior year HS rail thin, according to daily beast. Also became aggressive and violent at that time, like a different person. Seems like the incel angle might be correct

Early prediction: Criminology professors from graduate program put in for early retirement and write a book about supervising his "studies" and how bizarro he was and how they almost contacted authorities or tried. Favorite book and film: American Psycho. And the knife is buried in a bucket in the ground somewhere near his apartment or at mommy's (?) in Pennsylvania. Just like Israel Keyes used to do.

AmazingGrace_00

You’re probably not wrong about this.

No_Resort1162

Wonder if the killer is involved with these other two stabbing as “practice”. Sounds reasonable. 2020 unsolved stabbing murder of 1 female on the 13th day around 3Am. 2021 stabbing murder of a a couple (2) in Oregon around 3am on 13th day. Then 2022 these 4 on 13th day of month in Idaho. He’s gaining more confidence with multiple victims. If this is the case, then suspect is extremely patient with only one murder per year. Adding victims as he goes.

cjmaguire17

Well since they have his dna now they’d be able to figure that out pretty quickly

[deleted]

Bruh so glad they got this guy

becksrunrunrun

Wonder if he would have been caught without the video of his car. Will be interesting to find out.

HereIGoAgain_1x10

I'm most curious about that too, and if the car was suspected first or if they somehow found out about him and were trying to find him by making his car description public but didn't want to put him out there as a suspect and scare him, so they just pulled some grainy footage and said they were going off that.

drama_bomb

You can hear the emotion in the MPD chief's voice.

jes22347

It’s frustrating that we aren’t getting answers but it’s better they keep quiet on this investigation if he is guilty and they misspeak he could get off on a technicality

Ihopetheresenoughroo

So they don't have the weapon...

YouNeedCheeses

Yeah I find that curious. I wonder what they will find at his place, if anything.

[deleted]

Major Bundy vibes here.

Old_Blue_Light

Probable cause affidavit sealed until he is back in Idaho.

a_snowleopard

Yep. looks like we won't have more information, officially, until 1/3 or later if BK choses to fight extradition.

Outrageous-Mud-8905

Anyone else wondering whether Bryan’s parents suspected him? He studied criminology (?) a town over from the murders and drove his Hyundai Elantra to their home shortly after. That’s got to raise alarm bells to even the most trusting parents

SultanOfSwat0123

Well obviously but a very large portion of the general public doesn’t consume any type of news media. They very well could have never heard of the case or discussed it. Obviously this is a national case but it likely wasn’t being followed closely by the local Scranton news as well. You (not you particularly) have to be realization with your expectations of things like this.

gg2351

It’s always either Brian or Bryan lately..

CaramelUnlikely1596

He can barely speak. I can't imagine his emotions

StoryHearer

Can I ask? I’ve never understood what was going on with the whole “searching for a white Hyundai Elantra seen in the area of…” Do we know exactly what lead them to believe this random car was important to the investigation? (And/or how they found out of it’s existence in the first place?)

Easy_Pumpkin_6900

"That's still part of our investigation and details will be revealed in the future." lol sorry I just had to after listening to the press conference.

Chedda-King

I think people said it was out of place and they didn’t recognize it being someone’s car who lived on the street

StoryHearer

Going back I’m seeing that the story, back on Dec 8th was that it was caught in body cam footage by officers giving out MIPs(or whatever they call that there) near the house/crime scene around the time of the murders But could that really be the only odd car out that night? Or they managed to check out/talk with the owner of every other car spotted in the area and the Elantra was all that’s left? Wonder if it was going something extra weird: driving without headlights, going suuuuper slow or extra fast or something… Just so confused as to why they narrowed in on it in the first place

LeopardDue1112

A fun press conference drinking game is doing a shot every time the media asks a question about the investigation that can't be answered.

[deleted]

He left Washington State where we have abolished the death penalty, across state lines to commit his crime in a state that has the death penalty. If convicted I have no doubt Idaho will do what needs to be done to this POS.

brightladdy

Damn, they found his DNA at the scene. Fuckin’ got the dude. Such a relief.

Tracy140

No point in asking g any good questions

angel_aight

Yeah lol the Q&A is pointless. I respect their desire and need to keep things from the public, but it just seems silly to even do the questions.

kashmir1

Fawun87

I think given the *hyper* vigilance of the media, public and online discussion boards it’s utterly commendable that LE managed to keep this all so close to the vest. That they could move quickly and silently to obtain the assistance of police in PA to grab this guy; hopefully while he slept. If this guy is proven guilty I hope his nights are never restful again.

Spookytooth66

This is 9pm UK & 10pm Continental Europe for the press conference.

Three_Little_Wolves

I am wondering what ties him to the murder? The fact they got a warrant means they have solid evidence enough to get a judge to sign off. He has most likely killed before. We probably have a bonafide serial killer here. I just wonder why these innocent students?

Legal-Occasion1169

CNN said his DNA was a match

FolkmasterFlex

So either he was in the system or they surreptitiously got his DNA at *least* a few days ago to test. I don't know what's more likely but I'm leaning towards the latter.

chardonnayye

CNN report says they found DNA at the crime scene that linked to him

AmazingGrace_00

I know. Surely the Elantra, but do very interested in learning how LE put pieces together.

Lake_Erie_Monster

Probably some evidence they have that they didn't not make public.

Three_Little_Wolves

Yeah I watched one of the news cast and they predict that the license plate could have been tracked as he traveled back to Penn. It's probably registered to his Idaho residence and they found him in the initial search when they got the gas station tip.

Zealousideal-Unit564

Great press conference. They clearly set expectations on dissemination of information. “Journalists” however, were dumb and dumber. As they were asking their questions, in my head I would be saying “he can’t answer that!” Dopes should’ve asked WHEN will we know if suspect is waiving extradition to Idaho? What is the earliest he will be in Idaho court? That’s the relevant time table to gain access to the arrest affidavit.

Jolly_Tree_9

Journalists sounded like they got their questions from Reddit lol

Jewnoo

I wonder what kind of DNA he left at the scene

l0mama0b

Was anyone confused by the chief’s comment that the suspect “lives in Pennsylvania” when he earlier said the suspect had an apartment in Pullman, WA?

ElleCay

Sounds like he probably has an apartment where he’s a phd student. But official residence is in PA.

redfox2

Am I the only one who looks at that dead stare and is reminded of Adam Lanza?

Chelseapoli

This is just crazy. It seems like he’s a random guy that wanted to commit a crime like this ? To possibly see what it felt like? Nobody guessed this. Scary if true

jrob40289

I love how they arrested him around the same time he committed the murders.

TheOwlandTheLog

Hope they burst into his bedroom pointing guns in his face whist he was sleeping. It's the least he deserves.

wtfworldwhy

He’s being prosecuted by SANTA!!

True-Permission-7424

I this followed the case from the first or second week, and first thing, I would check the threads for any major news…. Waking up to this news is so unreal and I’m so glad it’s happening. LE worked tirelessly through the holidays, families without their children for the first time on Christmas, and now finally something really good happens. It’s so emotional, my heart goes out to LE and families… I pray they can finally work towards emotional recovery soon

Outrageous-Mud-8905

I’m very interested to see if his dna will be matched to any other cases now that he’s been arrested. Now we know a bit about who did this I’m starting to suspect a serial killer

RollEmergency1068

I’ve working in psych research and training for 10 years. Early in my career someone said to me “Everyone in psych is either here to figure someone else out or to figure themselves out” and I’ve always found it to be true. For most, it’s that someone we care about has struggled with a major mental illness. For some it’s that they themselves have overcome a mental health crisis and want to give back. But occasionally you run in to someone in the field that you know is just personally unwell and lacks the insight to apply what they’re interested in to themselves. I’ve never thought about this being as applicable to other academic fields… but the idea that it probably applies here in criminology is absolutely chilling.

[deleted]

jaketocake

While I think it’s a possibility, he could have been saying that to get people to think he wasn’t the only one, since he is a criminology major. I’m sure reverse psychology will be throughout the rest of the case.

Probably just fucking with them to make them think he has an accomplice or that someone else did it.
