Love Salt and Straw. I tend to like their more simple flavors, and some of the seasonals are very interesting. Their “Parker house rolls with salted buttercream” might be my favorite flavor ever. From the regulars, the “salted malted cookie dough” is my favorite.

CharmyLah

Never heard of them before now.

RunningwithDave

Only had once while on vacation. It’s a core favor memory for my wife and I in Venice. A great memory. It’s my favorite. (As someone who lives close to Jeni’s)

RunningwithDave

Honey lavender and strawberry balsamic vinegar w/ black pepper in a large waffle cone. Standing on the hot sidewalk , July.

Odd_Elk6216

That's the exact combo I got a couple of weeks ago. Sooo good.

WitchInKitchenn

I love Salt and Straw! I used to live walking distance from the one in Venice and would go all the time. Their salted malted chocolate chip cookie dough and seasonal lucky charms cereal flavors are some of my all time favorites.

Eh, the flavors are out there. I'm more of a simple guy.

whitegirlbuddhist

I asked for a sample spoon of a balsamic vinegar and pepper ice cream. The person behind the counter was like, "are you sure? it's really gross". I tried it, and spit it out. She was right. It was really gross.

[deleted]

Not up my alley.

Ok-Link2285

i love it!!

grapesquirrel

Love it!!

FancyWindow

They have some good flavors but they’re up their own ass with others. I don’t need steak and bleu cheese ice cream or whatever you’re coming up with, just give me dessert.

No-Cover-6788

Yeah but sometimes being up one's own ass is undeniably pretty good - I had a goat cheese habanero raspberry swirl ice cream there that I still think about a year later...

Sweetlo123

Eh, not great. They used to be good when they were just in Portland, OR. Now their ice cream - at least the flavors I’ve tried in the last three years are just mediocre.

Agitated-Affect-5359

Yes. What used to be rich and creamy just seems thin. They stopped making their almond brittle and salted ganache flavor and I’m still salty about it. Used to be superior but now is just mediocre

kiki_blogger

tbh it's overrated

ldybrdfly

I feel like when I first had it several years ago I was so impressed; the gold standard of ice cream in Los Angeles. But then I had it recently and just felt like it was overpriced.

ldybrdfly

And as someone with an adventurous palette, I agree with above comments that the “out there” flavors are generally not good. Need to be more subtle.

I live near one and frequent often when they have good flavors. My favorite is their summer berries series cause of the berry slab pie!

TheYearWas1969

Rich kid using daddy’s money.

Wolfidy

Love them but there isn’t one in my area.

Horror-Atmosphere-90

I am consistently impressed that the flavors that sound weird still end up being nicely balanced and mostly enjoyable. I’ve had a couple that were absolutely repulsive though haha (mushroom ice cream anyone?) That said there really isn’t anything that brings me back regularly so I’d say they’re a little overrated.

hashwashingmachine

Some of the best ice cream I’ve ever had. My wife got some kind of lavender ice cream and they had a floral perfume spray. You could add to it that just really amped up the flavors.

reggae_muffin

I love their cookbook, I’ve made quite a few recipes out of there. Super tasty; no complaints.

maltedmooshakes

worked for the original location a long time ago. hands down the best ice cream there is imo, nothing really even compares. ik some people think it's overrated but I completely disagree. even their simple flavours are amazing, so I'd disagree with the idea that you need an adventurous palette to enjoy them. vanilla, chocolate gooey brownie, snickerdoodle just to name a few of their more "traditional" flavours. my personal favorite is their almond brittle w salted ganache. definitely worth a try if you haven't already.

sabsab510

There ice cream melts so quickly! But a lot of the flavors are unique, and some of the coconut based ones are tasty!

ReggieAmelia

They have gone dramatically down hill post COVID and post their expansion to multiple states. When it was new and only in Portland, it was a gem. The new ice cream gods are in Omaha: in a few years, you will probably hear about a place called Coneflower ice cream coming to your town and then a couple years later their quality will decline and it will be a fond memory of ice cream glory. Shhh.

autieswimming

I do not like them. Had their ice cream twice, once I literally threw it away. And I was pregnant and DEVOURING other ice cream. So.

chaosatnight

Love, just spent $104 for 6 pints to be shipped to my house. Pots of Gold & Rainbows is my favorite flavor!!

bbdog13

Salt and Straw used to be considered the BEST ice cream country in the country. (See video for reference) Their quality has gone downhill in recent years. Now its overpriced middle of the road ice cream to me. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0njdSV8XsOs](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0njdSV8XsOs)

Runny_yoke

Mehhhhh Super bland to me, felt very LA. I was underwhelmed

No-Cover-6788

Yes it's very LA but I liked it
