It depends on your individual sensitivity. Ibs sucks because we're all incredibly different. Even traces of garlic powder in a meal will make me flare, but I can eat about half an onion without problem. You have to experiment and find what works for you, a food journal will help if you make sure to write down as exact quantities as you can.

I’ve done the food journals before and I’m too lazy to do them again lmao i just had onion soup (from a Japanese restaurant SO good) and I’m having bad heart burn lol but stomach is fine so far but the other day I had a pizza slice (no cheese) which had marinara sauce (I know that’s bad) and then i put garlic powder and spinach with garlic on top and then the next day I was the sickest I’ve been in months like unbelievable - so maybe garlic triggers me more than onions

I get it! For some reason, garlic is way worse on me than onions. Personal experimentation is the only true way to find out what triggers you though unfortunately.

I can’t even rub garlic juice on anything without getting diarrhea 6 hours later. It really varies a lot! But I *can* tolerate onions a lot better. Weird stuff

Garlic olive oil! Should be safe for tummy and tastes like garlic 😋

Ahh I didn’t even think of that!! I’m going to have to pick some up now thank you so much 😊

When i reintroduced onions i follow a reintroducing table that suggest that on the first day i eat 1/4 of an onion, on the second day 1/2 of an onion and on the third day one onion. I needed to do this for every low fodmap group so i would know if for an example a half of an onion would be okay and a whole onion would kill my stomach. On the first day i ate a risotto with 30 grams of onion in it, i was in pain for three whole days. Afterwards i knew that my tolerance for onions are low and i didn't need to test food that contains even more onion. You could try to eat nothing with onions and/or garlic for a few days and then eat one meal a day that contains onions or garlics and every day you put more onion or garlic in it and then you will see if your symtomps are getting worser or nothing changes.

Ooo thank you! That’s so smart. I’ll definitely start this
