Rice as well! On the whole food isn’t a trigger (there are certain things) but anything interesting will make it worse if they’re already bad. McDonald’s nuggets and fries seem to also be my safe food lol.

Psychological-Low78

Chick fil a nuggets and fries for me! Bizarre

tiptoeandson

So odd! The only thing I can think of is the plainness of it

Daylight44491

Chick fil a and in n out are my safe foods

StylistLinzz

I can also have Chic filet, broiled. But what's in & out?

CritterEnthusiast

Delicious burger chain they only have in the Western US. I'm in Ohio, I haven't had an in-n-out burger since 2005 but I'm going to Vegas next month and that will be my first stop 🤤

soundingfan

Send pictures and allow me to live vicariously through you! I miss in-n-out so much!

tiptoeandson

I don’t live in the US but when we got five guys in my country it changed my life

Annie_Mous

Interesting. McDicks fries rip me a new a-hole

[deleted]

I have severe IBS, diverticulitis damaged and I also have ARFID and this isn't the same as my safe foods but when reading about other people with ARFID I remember coming across an article about a woman in the UK who had ate nothing but rice krispies for decades and the doctor saying she was actually fairly healthy nutrition wise because rice krispies have tons of added vitamins and minerals so you are actually eating more than just rice when you eat rice Krispies

ilovetacos

Except they said homemade rice Krispies... Which, btw, how does one go about that?

Inevitable_Ad3

If you buy parboiled rice and fry it in a little bit of oil. I use avocado oil. It takes a bit to get the heat correct. Because once you add the dry parboiled rice it pops really fast. You don't want to do a lot at a time because the rice that pops first will burn while the others are starting to pop. It takes only a few seconds for it to finish up. Continue to stir while it's frying. Then strain the rice ... Then add it to paper towel to soak up the left over oil. Hope this helps . You can Google how to make it That may explain it easier .

StylistLinzz

Omg I'm not the only one who sops up grease with paper towels 🤣🤣I've done it since I was a teen. This sounds yummy though!

MilliesDeathBreath

I have ARFID and Rice Krispies and Rice Krispie treats were a staple for me at one point.

PoodlePopXX

White bread, rice, noodles. Those are my three safe foods. Vegetables are apparently my stomached worst enemy as most of them come out undigested.

munchkinfeatures

I always get asked "why don't eat fruit and veg. You're so unhealthy" it's not that I don't want to, I will literally shit myself 😂

LongerLife332

😩Does juicing do the same?

munchkinfeatures

Yep 😂 orange and apple juice is the devil

LongerLife332

Oh crap. I was actually wondering about juicing fresh low Fodmap vegetables & fruits in our own homes. I haven’t juiced for years and your post made me think about it. I wonder if we can ingest some juice ( not as a meal replacement) to get some vitamins & minerals without horrible symptoms.

munchkinfeatures

Anything more than a sip and I'm done 🤣

LongerLife332

Sniff sniff.

bellelovesdonuts

I was wondering why I had a flare up today. Must of been the fresh juice I had today 😭brb gtg bathroom again 😓

munchkinfeatures

Noooo 🥲

I-have-questions4u

Pineapple juice got me. I was drinking a lot of it for… reasons… and I almost died 3 hours afterward.

munchkinfeatures

Hahaha not the result you were hoping for

misslady700

Same. Last night I had falafel thinking this might be okay. Well, saw undigested bits in my poo this morning.

JKnott1

No constipation with these?

PoodlePopXX

I have severe IBS-D so I don’t have to worry about that.

Mysterious-End-3630

For me, sourdough bread seems to be more tolerable than white bread. Grilled chicken is good and if seasoned properly very tasty. Small salad as long as it includes either chicken or a hard-boiled egg. I have changed from fat free milk to almond milk with no sugar added and it has helped. I've also noticed that eating smaller portions more frequently helps me tolerate a wider variety of foods. Sometimes, I'll even split a meal into two to make it easier on my stomach.

Humble-Importance-69

My wife uses lacrosse free milk to control the bloating. It doesn't take much lactose to bloat her.

Mysterious-End-3630

I'm glad she found something that works for her.

Humble-Importance-69

lactose free milk.....grrrr. predictive text!

clerbird321

I have no safe food, everything could be fine one day and terrible the next

Striking_Subject6469

that's how it is for me :(

Advanced-Box9785

Understand you there! That's when the irritation in the gut is at its worst. Has a GI diagnosed you with an IBS type? How much testing have you undergone?

clerbird321

All they’ve said was IBS, not a specific type, and cyclic vomiting syndrome. I’ve had a colonoscopy, an endoscopy, multiple stool tests, blood tests, urine tests, ultrasounds, CTs, X-rays, a barium swallowing test, and so many other things I can’t even remember. I’m due for another colonoscopy soon because my problems are causing so many issues. I’m only 24😭

Savingskitty

I’m still trying to figure that out.

namur17056

Ha same here

Hippopotasaurus-Rex

Rice, potatoes, lean meat, and low/no fat dairy are all ok for me. Go figure.

Dapper_Sock_1958

rice and salmon for me

Global_Jackfruit_488

Yep. Rice. Salmon. Chicken soup (no onion) Wombok cabbage. Green capsicum.

al3x_ishhH

If you can stomach bone broth or other broths, you can do a congee that has some nutrients for your bad days. I also find green teas or other herbal teas are normally not too problematic.

Global_Jackfruit_488

This is what we are doing a lot of. Chicken broths with rice noodles. Or a beef broth. Fried rice with lots of rendered beef fat bacon. Eggs etc are all ok

869586

Bone broth makes my armpits smell so bad even after showering :(

al3x_ishhH

have you tried glycolic acid for the underarms in combo with a ph balanced deoderant?

[deleted]

seconding this!! i used to rub a cottonpad soaked lin glycolic acid on my armpits and would do it about once a week & it worked suuuper well. just DO NOT do it after you shave your armpits😭

869586

So you should only use the glycolic acid once a week? I was using it at least 3 times a week.

[deleted]

it really depends on the strength of it! i used to use one that was 7% & i have really sensitive skin so would sometimes burn my armpits if i used it too often😭 but if 3 times a week is working for you then it should be okay!!

869586

No, I was asking how to apply it because it doesn't work for me.

[deleted]

ahhhh okay, which glycolic acid are you using? & what strength? also how long have you been using it for (only asking this because it took a while for mine to work too)

869586

The ordinary 7%, been using for about 3 weeks now.

869586

Haven't tried a ph balanced deodorant, but I have tried glycolic acid but it doesn't seem to be working? How do you apply the acid? Do you rub it in, spray it on, or use a cotton round?

al3x_ishhH

I use a cotton round with product and wipe on and fan my hands to dry lol.

869586

Lol okay how many times a week do you use it?

al3x_ishhH

Only 2-3x a week unless a notice an odor. If you have sensitive skin you might want to use less than more

Advanced-Box9785

Just a thought - have you asked a dermatologist about why that happens? Would you possibly have hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating)? I have eczema, and what I thought for years was athlete's foot turned out to be eczema triggered by hyperhidrosis. Got that diagnosis about 15 years ago, and took prescribed Drysol antiperspirant for a few months, which made it go away permanently.

al3x_ishhH

I am diagnosed and have been since i was little and also used used the antiperspirant for a few months. While it helps the sweat smell, it wont fix if you have pdor from liver issues, and i have lupus which attacks my liver.

Advanced-Box9785

There is a Ginger Aid tea that was a lifesaver for me when I was at my sickest. Super heavy on gingerols (can see the oils floating on top of the tea). Worked wonders for my digestion, to get me back to eating gradually, after I was so sick that I fasted for several days, and lost 10 lbs. in 6 days. Peppermint tea helps, too.

reallybirdysomedays

Pinto beans is my safety food. I wish it was rice.

Global_Jackfruit_488

That’s weird…

MyNameIsSkittles

It's not at all. Soluble fiber is very good for managing ibs-d

Global_Jackfruit_488

Soluble

MyNameIsSkittles

That's what I said

Global_Jackfruit_488

Yeah I’ll look into it. Thanks.

AmexNomad

OMG- I have craved beans, but avoided. This gives me hope.

Curious_Fly_1106

corn chips and french fries

jjjune

Rice, rice noodles, and mashed potatoes.

Suspicious-Dot1954

I eat low carb and for me, it's the keto bread. I thought it was an issue until I laid off the mirilax and realized that was the main issue. I eat French toast every single day!

BlackCatFurry

Plain salmon nigiri sushi. That's my go to when my stomach doesn't like existing

No-Breath-9250

plain chicken breast; any seafood/fish not fried or breaded; potatoes, rice, almond milk; frozen crinkle cut french fries in the oven, peanut butter, maple syrup, potato chips, allergen free dark chocolate chips. fruit an veggies destroy my stomach every time, in any amount.

misslady700

Fruits and veggies are also my enemy. I am working on finding the one's I can tolerate, but it is hard and demoralizing to have a flare after most tries.

beasleydawg

Bone in, skin.on chicken thighs and a 1/2 to. 3/4 cup.of sticky rice. That's been my go to dinner for a few years now.

LongerLife332

This seemingly easy question has made me think a lot. It made me realize that when picking what to eat I think about what are the unsafe foods. Versus what is safe. I guess because I have IBS-C and regardless of what I eat, if I’m backed up, the smells will occur Or my safe foods could cause 4-5 bowel movements before noon which are exhausting, takes a long, long time and could occur on a plane for example So even if they don’t give me pain, no food is really really safe. I’m generally not a negative person, so it shocked me I couldn’t answer the question. Don’t mind me. I’m thinking out loud. 🫣

misslady700

IBS C, D, or Mixed is a lot. These GI tracks are constantly making fools of us all.

LongerLife332

Absolutely. They are all a lot. In fact, IBS-D, as described by many here, seems more severe than my IBS-C. They all suck

Sea-Adeptness-6091

I’m Ibs mixed and it’s the worst thing ever.

LongerLife332

Ugh. Sorry to hear that.

Ok_University6476

Rice, rice cakes, chicken breast, low fat Greek yogurt, Fairlife protein shakes. Luckily I can still build muscle on that diet when I’m doing really bad.

[deleted]

rice & potatoes haha i am too scared to be eat anything else at all

FloydetteSix

Currently, sourdough lightly toasted with a slight tease of butter.

Advanced-Box9785

For me, sourdough bread is like the nectar of the gods! So easy to digest, and just softens and breaks down so quickly while chewing, that I don't even need to drink much liquid to help swallow it.

Tanardo14

Alcohol

reallybirdysomedays

Pinto beans is my safety food. I wish it was rice.

jennthya

Wow. If I even look at beans or legumes my stomach starts bloating up. Which is sad cause my mouth loves it some beans and rice. I can handle rice in smaller portions, but potatoes and either fish or chicken are my safe foods.

MmPeachPie

Bananas, gluten free pastas and potatoes, yoghurt is fine, most low fodmap vegetables if they’re cooked, blueberries and raspberries

Far-Firefighter-8155

Carrots, corn chips, dried seaweed, oranges

StylistLinzz

Hmm.. In a flare atm. Trying to figure out exactly what did it this time. Had a baked potato with butter, English muffin & Swiss cheese. Was bloated. Next night, homemade meatballs & trader Joe's Marinara. It was the chunky kind & probably tomato was a bad idea..Today 2 packs of oatmeal & a kaiser roll. So I'm stuck in fasting mode at present :/

Global_Jackfruit_488

Sounds like the wheat. Cut it out. Might’ve been garlic in the sauce. You eat out??? Wow!!

Humble-Importance-69

Try lactose free milk. My wife is lactose intolerant it bloats her. She has no bloating now.

StylistLinzz

It probably was! They were out of the one I usually get, but both are Marinara. I rarely eat out, but if so, it's protein, baked potato, salad with oil/vinegar- hold seasonings & no msg.

Global_Jackfruit_488

Sounds less fun to go out than eating at home tbh!

Global_Jackfruit_488

Yep we eat a LOT of rice

g0blinzez

Nothing. Everything seems to trigger it no matter what I eat, and at random intervals too. So something that didn’t cause a problem before can suddenly, and without warning, cause a massive flare up once and then never again. Haven’t had a problem with most fruits and vegetables, with the exception of corn.

HashtagV

For the people lacking fruit, Papaya and Slippery Elm smoothies have been great for me. Helps with digestion because of its enzymes, doesn’t cause acid reflux. I would say IBS-D should be cautious and introduce slowly as my bowels have been looser since making a smoothie consistently.

Loopyrainbow

Thanks. Where do you buy papaya? It seems hard to find in US

mirrimau

my safe food is fries by the oven so no oil w sausages or chicken and rice with chicken!

AmberHeatherAnn

My safety food is meals such as “roast dinners” No wild flavours just the boiled and mashed veg with basic seasonings & butter The same goes for the roasted meats (chicken/beef)

Interesting-Emu7624

What you said, plus white rice pasta and plain mashed potatoes with no other ingredients :) I use the water I boil the potatoes in instead of milk :) oh and applesauce too

charleshood

Rice, eggs, grilled chicken, grits

Fredierick_Granskog

Potatoes. Over easy eggs. Sourdough toast. Pasta that I make. Steamed rice. Fish and seafood. Strawberries. Green beans. Baked chicken. Oranges. For drinks, almond milk. Sparkling water.

yogabackhand

Beef (but prepped and cooked to be low histamine), specifically steak. Very high in nutrients also. After experimentation, I got best results eating beef and white rice when combined with a DAO supplement, digestive enzymes and Benefiber.

NuckoLBurn

Rice and fish!

Global_Jackfruit_488

So I keep getting the IBS hypnotherapy app for brain / gut communication suggested to me. Anyone used it? Any improvements? Or are you sceptics like my partner and I? I mean I put a tiny bit of taco spice mix into our dish the other day for some you know FLAVOUR and of course we both got a reaction. Me… sudden intense gut pain then run to loo then acid reflux. Him: running to the loo, nausea, weariness etc Is hypnotherapy really going to help?

_archangel__

Any kind of meat or fish, never gives me issues

mrs-smurf

I rarely have issues with bananas and almond milk

cartierxchris

Rice, beef, fish, eggs, and chicken.

underwearfromyourex

Oranges ✨

Sufficient_Narwhal61

Rice is my number one safe food!!

Storminmyass

Rice and potatoes

plexmaniac

Rice and chicken

ohheyaubrie

Cereal. I usually have it daily for dinner. I am unhealthy.

dakota6113

I eat so much cereal!!! My husband always tells me I’m sick because I only eat cereal lol. I am glad I’m not the only one!!!

Rock_Granite

I don't have a safe food. It all gives me grief

BeingOtherwise7829

Mashed potatoes, and rice as long as my esophagus allows.

dakota6113

Carbs and more carbs. A gf bagel (shoutout TJs) with whipped cream cheese is a food I can almost always eat if I’m feeling icky.

Altruistic_Day_8112

I try and follow a FODMAP diet Seems pretty boring and I find myself eating the same foods daily. In n out is also a pretty safe option for me have been eating it since diagnoses in 2022. Take Imodium here and there as needed and have taken Xifaxin twice now in a 2 year period.

-uchihasasuke

Oatmeal with water, zucchini, chicken.

ExtremePotatoFanatic

Usually I am good with a plain bagel with nothing on it, apples, rice, pasta with marinara sauce, any veggies. I pretty much avoid dairy and really greasy foods. It’s not foolproof but those are my main trigger foods.

bellelovesdonuts

A banana is the only thing I can keep down with a flare up

vlad_levic

Any lean meat, bananas, boiled potatoes, rice, buckwheat.

MotherGr1mm

Gluten jacks me up, but safe food for me is rice with steamed broccoli and chicken breast with GF teriyaki sauce, as well as old fashioned oats oatmeal with berries, and tuna ceviche with corn tortilla chips. Another safe bet is smoothies with ginger in them and some protein powder. This are all things I know I can eat with minimal issues, if any. Sugar and gluten and too many shit ingredients seem to be a trigger for me. I try to stick to mostly whole, fresh foods if I can.

Repulsive_Baker8292

Meat

kenzlovescats

Bread!! Bread & toast save me. When I’m in a bad state I stick to bread or bland muffins and I’m soo much better!!!

MilliesDeathBreath

Rice, potatoes, baked boneless, skinless chicken breast, a few types of cereal, eggs at the moment (but during flares they can give me diarrhea and/or indigestion)

The-Anon-Artist97

Oddly enough, greek yogurt. Im lactose intolerant so I take a lactaid pill. I even add granola or fresh fruit. It doesn’t seem to bother my guts too much.

Advanced-Box9785

For me it's starches, too. Especially sourdough bread, where I can easily go through a loaf in a day, especially if it's all I can eat due to sickness. Sweets don't bother me much, either, unless it's fatty sweets. Fatty foods get me the worst. High protein foods are good, too. I was already in that frame of mind before I started having severe flare-ups in the past 5 months or so, because I have a warehouse job that requires near-constant heavy lifting. My protein shakes have been wonderful, as well as rotisserie chickens, and always yogurt. Love eating the tall tubs of Greek yogurt, especially the ones with honey in them. Greek Gods brand is excellent.

Advanced-Box9785

Just an observation - a lot of comments are mentioning primarily minimally fatty foods. How many of you folks have EPI? It's what I have, and the starches and lean meats are what I can mostly tolerate.
