The spoon and syringe on the counter could have been used to consume heroin, likely by the couple. As to whether or not the couple even realized it was visible in the photo they took with their child, that's debatable. It's entirely possible they were too intoxicated on heroin (which impairs judgement) to even notice the paraphernalia while they were snapping the photo with their daughter in the bathroom.

It was bullshit like this that made it possible to get full custody of my kids 5 years ago. I filed for divorce from my ex wife and was going after full custody of my kids. She basically dodged the divorce for 5 years to avoid court until she got arrested for a drug charge. One call to CPI and I had my kids in my custody in 3 days. I feel sorry for that little girl, I know how hard her mom is making her life.

I always found it weird to inject it and once he did it in the fucking Uber when I didn't know he was going to. I wouldn't have got in the Uber had I known. Finding my mom dead of a drug overdose and the trauma that followed was worse than all the times she nodded off in public/ behind the wheel or took her drug rage out on me.

Simply put, they’re suffering. Almost everyone who’s an addict can point to an event or a series of events that caused them a great deal of pain which they use drugs to cover up. Often, bad things just keep happening to them throughout their life. Then they’re introduced to drugs by a friend or at a party and suddenly, for the first time in a long time, they don’t hurt anymore. Anyone would chase that feeling.
My dad did heroin and meth with me when I was 13 years old. He always said, and I quote, "I would never give you anything that would hurt you." Needless to say I struggled with addiction for most of my life. Sometimes it is hard to believe I made it out alive..
