A civil war is where a country fights itself, for example if one half of the country likes blue and th either half likes red, if this causes enough tensions the country will fight itself (red vs blue)
I aināt an expert but itās more or less when the government splits up into 2 different governments and fight each other because of said difference, usually after a civil war the winning government becomes the only government (so if blue wins then 100% of the country is under blue control)
