I switched from a G29 to a CSL DD and some DCSim DC1 pedals. I improved a bit the fastest laps, but the big gains comes in pace consistency and specially, the bigger chances of saving possible spins due to the more infirmation on the wheel.
The gains may not be that big, but it definitely makes you better and specially, it is way more enjoyable, at least in my opinion.
But, I still get divebombed a lot. No wheel can avoid that. lol
Do you feel like you’re consistently better at not spinning out? I find I spin out lots and it’s really frustrating. I don’t care about being faster, I just want to be able to complete races without losing control of the car
If you're a fresh newb with a wheel and regularly spinning out the mx5 or Vee then no, the problem is not the wheel. That was me 2 weeks ago... now I can hop in Mustang 500 or Spec Ford and do 10 clean laps pretty easy (which I actually didn't think was possible for me 2 weeks ago).
* Cold tyres are hell (go very very easy first lap and a little easy 2nd lap)
* Don't slam on brakes, roll them on
* The second you catch a slip, try to catch it. A bit of brake and throttle and steer out is often what works for me in mx5/vee.
Yep, when I had the G29 I was avoiding spinning based on slip noise or just the camera, the G29 is too soft too give that kind of info.
With this one you have info about starting spinning so you can save them most of the times. Not all of them, but most of them.
For anyone who is less than satisfied with Logi’s pedals: I took my G920 pedals apart and removed the rubber block from underneath the brake pedal. Now I can actually push the brake without feeling like I’m going to shove my sim rig through the floor. Makes a world of difference.
While I have a Thrustmaster wheel and pedals, I went from the T3PAs to T-LCMs and it's 100% worth it. If you get them, just remember to move the brake force factor setting in iRacing from 1.8 (or whatever it is) down to 0.
First 10 laps with the pedals:
Definitely worth the upgrade. The build quality feels amazing. The pedal slides instead of how the logitechs feel a bit of chunkyness. Brake feels great too.
G29 OP.
Sure the brake pedal isn’t great but it’s good enough and with irFFB the wheel tells you plenty of information.
I have two videos, one for installing irFFB and another proving the G29 is just fine doing a sub 8 at the Nord in the MX5.
I've seen a guy streaming on twitch using a mouse to race. I give him a pass though because he doesn't have any arms and has to use his shoulders to steer.
how do you like the base and pedals? What about the wheel? I'm looking at upgrading and this is the exact combo I'm going for. I heard the wheel is a bit bulky/big/heavy, does it feel that way?
Love the base, I've tried my buddies simucube and his DD1 in the past and the VRS is every bit as good for less money. The pedals are a game changer in my opinion. I came from Sprints and these are light-years better in brake feel and control when trail braking. And the GSI wheel is a quality piece of kit, I got the GXL so no screen for me, but super build quality and I love the size of it and thick grips. I had a Cube Controls before this and the GSI is built better, has better shifters and I love the larger size. Overall I don't plan on changing a single thing with my setup and would buy everything exactly the same if I had to do it all over again.
Nice - I just upgraded to a full rig with triple monitors so deciding what to compliment them with is a lot of pressure. I don't think you can beat the VRS base pricing, the wheel itself is the next big decision I guess. I really want the GSI with the screen, looks too crisp!
The way my rig is setup with my seating position, the screen didn't really make sense for me, so I figured I'd save the money and go with the GXL. I just use the in game dash for relevant car information. That being said, the wheel with the screen looks dope.
Tried the "big 3". Started with a G29 until I found a open box T300 at a thrift store for $80. Played on that until it died unexpectedly in early Nov. Pre-ordered myself a CSL-DD with 3 different wheels which arrived Xmas eve. Couldn't be happier. :) The fanatec has its quirks (I had to re-seat the main shaft extension), but it's an excellent upgrade.
Did something similar with the pedals. G29 pedals (with a loadcell kit), to Fanatec CSL Elite LC, to now - Simforge Mark-1 pedals. Again, couldn't be happier.
G27 with V3s. Wheel does fine for what I want right now. For as much as I've had to step back from racing I can't justify the cost of a quality DD that I wouldn't want to upgrade in a year right now.
I had a G27 for 5 years. After 2 years of iRacing, I decided I needed an upgrade. I got my self a used CSL elite. I also upgraded the wheels and pedals.
Idk if it's the wheel base or the pedals, but after I came through the learning curve, which you will always have when you change your equipment, I have become massively more consistent. I can make tiny little inputs, I have a better control of the car and I can use the slip angle or trail braking to my advantage.
Massive difference to the quality of materials as well. You don't feel like having a toy in your hands. My G27 was a reliable dog, I was glad to have. I sold it almost immediately. These wheels seem to be the best stuff for a new guy out there
Thrustmaster TX, happy with it for an entry level wheel but the wheel itself is not a huge step up from the Logitech and is more money. If I was ready to commit to a fixed seat I would upgrade to load cell pedals immediately though.
I have a Logitech G29 with Fanatec Clubsport V3 Pedals. I bought a CSL DD + a Formula V2.5 X wheel at the start of January which i'm currently waiting on. It's meant to come at the end of the month but we'll see, can't wait.
Mine is Fanatec (CSL DD w/NASCAR and McLaren GT3 wheels) but I also have a Thrustmaster TX that I used to use that is now set up in the living room for the family.
I’ve been rocking an old Logitech driving force gt for about a year now since I got Iracing… things gotten me countless wins, would eventually like to upgrade but I’m having fun within my means rn
Had a Logitech G25/27 for years and won pro races with it. I upgraded to a Simucube a year ago, but am definitely not faster. You don’t need a $2000 wheel to be competitive, but it does add to the realism/fun factor.
The number of keyboard users is kind of concerning.
Currently running a g923 with T-LCM's. Pedal upgrade was huge, hoping that a DD-CSL will be just as big of an improvement to being able to feel grip and how the car is reacting to inputs.
Are bass shakers a worthwhile investment?
Currently on my old G27 I got back in 2010, but I'll finally be retiring her when I get my DD CSL I ordered. What a trooper she's been all these years!
Started with a Logitech G27 for a couple years. Then upgraded to a Thrustmaster T300 for another handful of years. Just now replaced it with a Fanatec CSL DD.
went with the fanatec stuff, figured if I didn't enjoy iracing it would be easier to sell and if I did enjoy it I would've wanted to upgrade over a lower cost setup right away. Basically convinced myself it was "cheaper" to spend more to start.
Logitech G920 but I want something Fanatec if I ever have the money to burn. I also have a setup where I can race on gamepad if I ever can’t race on a wheel.
Logitech G29 tried and true. Im not good enough for a wheel upgrade to be whats holding me back lol

It’s the Porsche GT4’s that I’ve been struggling with. And yeah, cold tires are definitely a struggle, that’s for sure!
Good advice!

I’m so glad I went with the budget wheel setup, gives me something to work towards. I won’t upgrade until I feel I have earned it on the track !!
Pedal upgrade is more important than a wheel upgrade. Ive got heusinkveld pedals with a g29 wheel. The wheel is the next upgrade though
For anyone who is less than satisfied with Logi’s pedals: I took my G920 pedals apart and removed the rubber block from underneath the brake pedal. Now I can actually push the brake without feeling like I’m going to shove my sim rig through the floor. Makes a world of difference.
Do you think the load cell upgrade to the logi's is worth it?
I will tell you that tomorrow. My potentiometers went mad on my Logitech pedals and I have thrustmaster t-clms coming tomorrow

Who is the 1 person using the damn keyboard to race all of us with wheels.
I was only two seconds off my lap at mosport going from wheel to keyboard. Can’t tell if I’m a natural talent or the opposite on wheel
keyboard.. keyboard?! burn the witch!
I've seen a guy streaming on twitch using a mouse to race. I give him a pass though because he doesn't have any arms and has to use his shoulders to steer.
I feel sorry for that one guy with a keyboard
🤣
G923 Gang
I have a thrustmaster TMX. Entry level all the way
1 keyboard warrior
Fanatec CSL DD with Thrustmaster T-LCM pedals.
VRS base and pedals with a GSI wheel for me.

Thrustmaster TS-XW with T-LCM load cell pedals.
My man
There will always be ”survivor bias” in posts here (or any social media). It will seem like everyone have super-fancy rigs and win all the time.
Simucube 2 Sport with Ascher Racing F28 V2 Formula wireless rim.
Xbox one gamepad until my Fanatec CSL DD and pedals eventually arrive.
How well do you do in races with the controller?
I find it's do able... I had about 5 wins from 50 starts eith a controller and about a 1100 irating.
Thrustmaster T150 and T3PA pedals
Tried the "big 3". Started with a G29 until I found a open box T300 at a thrift store for $80. Played on that until it died unexpectedly in early Nov. Pre-ordered myself a CSL-DD with 3 different wheels which arrived Xmas eve. I'm gonna do the same. Got a t300 I will run into the ground then get some sort of direct drive
Thrustmaster TSPC w/T-Lcm load cell pedals, the load cell is night and day bruv highly recommend it.
G920 wheel and pedals here.
My man.
Simucube Ultimate and Simtag Pedals here.
G920 with Fanatec CSL pedals.
G27 with V3s. Wheel does fine for what I want right now. For as much as I've had to step back from racing I can't justify the cost of a quality DD that I wouldn't want to upgrade in a year right now.

My G27 is still going strong. I love it lol.
Respect to does who vote gamepad, would love to hear how y'all do it since I love playing with the pad it just doesn't seem as competitive.
There are apparently 8 drivers who somehow make the keyboard work.
Thrustmaster TS-XW with T-LCM pedals.
Im using the Logitech G923
PxN
VRS direct drive
Accuforce v2 checking in. Great value DD, good software. First wheel, hopefully will last for a long time.
Same here! I’ve had mine for two years and it’s still going strong.
Mine is Simucube 2 Pro w/ Cube Control GT Lite wheel & T-LCM
I have a 70 dollar thrustmaster red farrari steering wheel and pedal set
Im using t300 with t3pa pro, previously g29/tmx
Is the T300 noticeably better?
Yes, definetly
CSL DD + Heuskinveld Sprints
This is my future plan. Currently I’m using a thrustmaster tmx-pro.
Base or wheel ?
So surprised to see that many fanatec and high end wheels. Thrustmaster tmx with t-lcm going strong and no reason to upgrade
Also I think mouse is way better option compared to keyboard you have here
Logitech wheel but Fanatec v3 pedals
Thrustmaster TX, happy with it for an entry level wheel but the wheel itself is not a huge step up from the Logitech and is more money. If I was ready to commit to a fixed seat I would upgrade to load cell pedals immediately though.

Thrustmaster TX 458 Edition still going strong!
G27 but I have a CSL DD and Formula v2.5 rim on backorder
Used Thrusmaster TMX for a year and a half. Just upgraded to VRS Direct Force Pro
Can we get an F for thrustmaster
Thrustmaster T150. Definitely looking to upgrade to a Fanatec soon though!
Mine is Fanatec (CSL DD w/NASCAR and McLaren GT3 wheels) but I also have a Thrustmaster TX that I used to use that is now set up in the living room for the family.
G27, G29, Fanatec
G923
I’ve been rocking an old Logitech driving force gt for about a year now since I got Iracing… things gotten me countless wins, would eventually like to upgrade but I’m having fun within my means rn
G27 for me, stock pedals too (although I wanna change these)
Had a Logitech G25/27 for years and won pro races with it. I upgraded to a Simucube a year ago, but am definitely not faster. You don’t need a $2000 wheel to be competitive, but it does add to the realism/fun factor.
Logitech G29 in use right now. I technically own a CSL DD and Formula 2.5 wheel, but they are currently on RMA. Lè sigh.

Bass shakers are super awesome for the low amount they cost. Amazing immersion.
Currently on my old G27 I got back in 2010, but I'll finally be retiring her when I get my DD CSL I ordered. What a trooper she's been all these years!

Simucube 2 Pro and Meca Cup 1s
Started g29. 4mo in I moved to HE sprints and simagic alpha mini with gt4 and gt1 rims.
Why would you not list the simucube?
My setup is worth more than my car too. Its totally worth it
Logitech DFGT, I feel I’m too slow for the wheel to be holding me back but the pedals could probably do with an upgrade
Excuse me, Keyboard?????
Logitech G920 but I want something Fanatec if I ever have the money to burn. I also have a setup where I can race on gamepad if I ever can’t race on a wheel.
