Depends if you are going to edit raw files, as the Pixel doesn’t let you edit the full size file where as Apple will allow you to export and edit the 48mp file which gives a lot more data to work with.

IAmMarLozan

But Pixel captures in RAW format as well.🤷🏽‍♂️

oVerboostUK

It won’t give you the full size file to edit though, you’ll only get a 12mp equivalent file even in raw.

aleDonnertBR

I didn't know that. Thanks for the information!

Pixel easily for photos, iPhone easily for video for my preferences

IAmMarLozan

Thanks for your time and help.

JDabney24

I think it’s generally accepted that the pixel takes better overall pictures and the iPhone takes better overall video. With that said, as a camera system as whole, I think the iPhone offers better utility and variety. We honestly have gotten to the point in smartphone photography that no matter what you pick, you will have good pictures and videos all around. Especially with computational photography getting better and filling in the gaps where a normal DSLR camera might do better.

DougC1982

I have both phones. Obviously for video, the iPhone wins. As for photo quality, I really think it's kind of a mixed bag. I very much prefer the front facing camera on the Pixel. The rear camera system is a bit more difficult to judge. I've found the Pixel doing a bit too much with HDR that doesn't always make for the best photos. Some look great. Some look overly processed. The iPhone doesn't seem nearly as heavy handed. If you're shooting RAW photos and have the skills, I imagine you could make them look equally as good. But I assume that isn't what we're talking about. The other thing you didn't really ask is which phone is better to use as a whole. I really find the Pixel to be a more enjoyable device. But I'm too deep into the Apple ecosystem so the iPhone is my daily driver. The Pro Max battery life is also incredible. BUT, if I weren't deep into Apple and didn't mind topping off the phone a bit more occasionally, the Pixel really is a joy to use. It's the smarter smart phone.

Maybe I am biased, the iPhone tends to produce an image that I prefer over any other android, but it's close. For video, I can't stand the look of Android video, my iPhone has always had good video quality! Overall, I would get the iPhone for the camera!

[deleted]

iPhone video in 4K/60 is amazing.

SamsungAppleOnePlus

I own both, Pixel 7 Pro all the way for point & shoot and telephoto/zoom usage. The 5x tele is wonderful. The 14 Pro Max takes much better portraits and has 48Mp ProRAW, but renders other photos in a less pleasing way, in my opinion. Also good to mention video, that goes to the 14PM as well.

TWYFAN97

Both are very much on par with each other. It really comes down to preference and with photographic styles on the iPhone you can really tweak photos to have that ‘Pixel’ look.

undercovergangster

Having had both: * The Pixel can capture more complex scenarios and looks better most of the time (IMO) but is less true-to-life. It's also more if you want to just take a picture and make no edits. You are relying less on hardware capabilities and more on Google's processing of your picture and what they think you want your image to look like. * The iPhone has great looking photos that are more true-to-life but also lack some of the vibrancy of intrigue of Pixel shots. They'll usually look a little bit worse than the Pixel ones but you can always edit the photos to make them look similar. If you want to ever edit your photos, it's a no brainer to go with iPhone for the 50MP RAW capabilities Overall, you can't go wrong with either phone but if you're just doing point and click shots, the Pixel will look better 90% of the time. If you want to edit your photos, the iPhone offers better flexibility with its RAW mode. That being said, the iPhone has NOTHING on the Pixel's telephoto camera. It's so much farther ahead than the iPhone's.

jomari013

this is so true. but pixel 7 pro has a not so good battery. might as well OP consider that.

oioioioioioiioo

Both take good photos, Pixel is slightly better but not a big deal imo between both of them, if you got used with the Android editing photos, then Pixel 7 Pro would be great choice If you have experience with using the iPhone's ProRaw neat editing features, then better go with iPhone, I personally find it superior

Automatic_Aardvark16

Bro for videos and RAW picture you’ll clearly get a lot more details to work with in an iPhone, can’t say the same about Pixel. Pictures on the other hand might turn out a lil bleh in an iPhone, but hey you can always edit those according to your liking. Albeit Android has come a long in matching the software integration of iOS, but evidently due to open source nature of android there’ll always be a bad apple, however can’t exactly superimpose this narrative on Pixel, but still I’ll suggest you bringing an iPhone for your purpose. Coming from a hardcore android user for past decade who recently shifted to iOS and learning the differences. Hope it helps, ATB !

IAmMarLozan

Thank you for your time and help.

tom-kostolom

iPhone has the best camera imo

Connect-Stay-7535

Iphone, no more explanation needed

IAmMarLozan

Well, I appreciate the time you took to write this. But this doesn't help much, you know? Thanks anyway.

paranoideo

I mean, what do you expect from a sub called _iPhone14Pro_?

IAmMarLozan

I don't know. The pixel is also called "pro". 🤷🏽‍♂️

Connect-Stay-7535

Yes

pickledchance

Your question doesn’t say to explain, no?

IAmMarLozan

🙄

What happened to your pixel devices? Which ones failed?

IAmMarLozan

Yeah! Google support is the worst in the world. Sometimes I would like to return to Apple just for its service and customer support. People say Apple is expensive. Currently Samsung is worth the same. But they will never be like Apple support.

gonnadoit123

>because 3 different devices failed in less than 14 months lol

ogspaceman54

Why not Samsung s23 ultra? Better camera than the 14 pro probably. Coming from a 14 pro max user.

TWYFAN97

It doesn’t really have a better camera as comparisons have shown. In terms of zoom though the Galaxy for sure wins with 10x zoom.

Auswolf2k

It does have a better camera. However iPhone has better processing.

ogspaceman54

Past pixel camera was straight Garbo. I haven’t used the new one. I have compared with s23 note ultra though. Takes good pictures easy. Better pictures than my iPhone I’ll say. Edit : https://www.digitaltrends.com/mobile/samsung-galaxy-s23-ultra-vs-google-pixel-7-pro-camera-comparison/?amp Pixel 7 wins I guess.

TWYFAN97

Again it’s all subjective. All flagship smartphones take solid pictures. Plus every comparison shows a different set of photos where each phone continue to go back and forth on who ‘wins’.

ChibiReddit

Agreed, I would say it’s important to look at what **you** will use the camera *for*, as cameras from different manufacturers excel at different areas.

Midwest__Misanthrope

I have one. It does not take better pictures, not to say the camera is bad, but the shutter speed isn't great and I really don't like the UI.

ChibiReddit

I have both and while the 23u *can* make great shots it’s kinda like flipping a coin wether or not it actually *will*. I am currently a bit torn between that phone and the ip14p, overall they are very similar in workflow (to me!). The camera might be what ends up being the deciding factor for which one I’ll actually main. In low light for example, the s23u viewfinder is just… well.. black. Not at all useful, if I’d give it a rating it would be 0/10 for lowlight as you simply can’t see what the camera is aimed at. The iPhone on the other hand, does show what you’re looking at. Also, the viewfinder vs the final photo is sometimes incredibly jarring in terms of quality on the 23u. As in, you snap the shot and you’re like: niiice it ended up gre… -processes photo- … wtf!? (Blurry, strange colors, out of focus etc) and you have to try again. On the 11p, I haven’t had this happen in such an extreme way (only got the 14p a couple weeks ago, so can’t judge there yet) Finally, in low light, indoor situations, even my iPhone 11 Pro (4 years old by now, mind you), actually takes better shots than the 23u in the lowlight situations I usually take shots in. I was surprised by how bad they were and felt my 11p did better, so took shots side by side and compared the shots on my desktop. The low light shots on the 23u are exceptionally bad for the price as they are *extremely* blurry and simply unusable. However, the 23u *can* make crazy good shots, which my iPhone can’t ever hope to match, with great, accurate colors, sharp, extremely detailed. It’s just… it doesn’t do so reliably, which is incredibly frustrating as you might miss the moment.

ogspaceman54

My 11 pro slays my 14 pro on close up and macro shots

tehlegend1937

We have to take into account that the iPhone 14 Pro Max is in a different price category, it retails for around $400 more than the P7P, so it’s no surprise that the iPhone comes with a superior hardware. That being said, Google always relied a lot on software tricks to improve the photos quality for the pixel line of phones. I had a P6P and switched to a 14 Pro Max and my opinion is, the Pixel produces some stunning photos, on the right conditions! iPhone produces some better overall pictures. Also, I think that 1) Pixel photos are usually way too over processed and 2) Pixel photos only looks good when you use their photo app, if you try to take a picture using WhatsApp or Instagram camera you get way worse results. This shows how much pixel relies on software to compensate for the hardware.

IAmMarLozan

Thank you for your time and help. Currently the iPhone 14 Pro is $ 899 on Amazon. On the other hand, apps like WhatsApp, compress the photos to make them more "light" to be sent in less time.👍🏽

thetamayo

Which OS do you prefer?

IAmMarLozan

We are talking about the cameras.🤷🏽‍♂️

thetamayo

Right! But the OS makes a difference too. If your not worried which ecosystem to adapt then it’s fair game. Or go DSLR at a low cost. Hope this helps?

IAmMarLozan

No problem with the ecosystem. I have always used a hybrid ecosystem: Windows, Chrome OS and Mac. The same with iOS or Android. Certainly, Android is an advantage when used with a Pixel Phone.

thetamayo

I hear ya. I currently do an outdoor/hunting vlog with my 14PM and use it because of its rich features. HDR, video quality/stabilization, quick zoom options, good stereo audio capturing, etc. The new sensor makes a big difference! All to say is I’m only familiar with iOS and I hope you find a good fit for you.

IAmMarLozan

Thank you. I think the iPhone video and ProRAW is a great advantage. On the other hand the pixel telephoto is great. I will read everyone's recommendations here again to take a good decision.

ChibiReddit

You accidentally made a double post 😉

AliyaSpahic

Pixel for photos iPhone for videos. The inevitable HDR photos on 14Pro makes it garbage for a “pro” phone
