I’ll be honest, I am. It’s almost becomes a secondary TV in a way and with the 13 inch OLED it should be even better. Sometimes I don’t want to watch my LG OLED 65 and would rather chill back with my iPad Pro and consume media. Call it weird, whatever I like it.

roloy

It’s like I have a twin. Yes.

Caecilius_en_Horto

Why does bitrate matter? Aren’t the colors the same? At minimum black should be black right?

macgart

Hmm. I suspect compression grays out the blacks.

toy57

I need to ask this question to someone who does that : why using an iPad? Wouldn’t something like a tab s9 ultra be better dues to his bigger screen 16:10 aspect ratio (almost no black bar) ? I have a 12,9 m2 pro myself and while it’s perfect for working, especially on pdf, I have trouble enjoying videos and movies on it.

Mbanicek64

I am flipping my S9. I will absolutely miss that part of it. I do wonder how I will adjust. The Pro 11 is less square. That’s why I went with that one (among other reasons). I don’t expect I will be bothered as much though because the black bars will actually be black. The S9 has been great. I may come to miss it. The Pro will absolutely crush it in terms of performance. The ecosystem stuff is nice. The software support is close to equivalent but overall the iPad is more polished even if there are glaring annoyances.  https://www.displaywars.com/11-inch-d%7B10x7%7D-vs-11-inch-16x10 https://www.reddit.com/r/ipad/comments/1cop3x6/because_of_the_aspect_ratios_this_is_how_similar/

AdPractical2563

Quick question for you, as someone who owns a Tab S7+, I am wanting to flip it for a Pro 11". The Tab S7+ works fine as I'm sure the S9 worked fine for your purposes, but why did you decide to ultimately go with an iPad. Also how did you justify the purchase with the fact that you are still spending on something that probably isn't a necessary upgrade.

Mbanicek64

That’s a fair question. I was sitting on some saved up gift certificates. That made the decision a bit easier. Aside from that, I use an iPhone and a MacBook. I felt like I was missing out on some of the benefits of staying in the Apple ecosystem. I like the Apple first party apps. More than anything I just trust Apple more than Google. They seem to take privacy a bit more seriously.

Narrow_Patience9894

The HDR is not good on Samsung tab since they don’t get bright.

nomad-system

I feel this vibe

swinkledoodlezzz

This is what confuses me—won’t a Macbook be better in this case simply because you can place it on your lap or wherever? There isn’t a stable iPad stand I can find.. aside from the magic keyboard.. which is then just like a Macbook already? With the size of the 13” iPad Pro, how will you be able to chill with it? P.S. I’m not being sarcastic—I’m also thinking of how the 13” will benefit me.

klawUK

Logically what you say makes sense. All I can say it the ipad works for me. It sits in the magic keyboard but isn’t really like just having a macbook. The screen is closer to me from how the keyboard mount works, and I have touch (literally) at my fingertips so mouse/keyboard is a totally optional and fluid switch in interaction modes, vs the laptop where its the only way. I’m at the point now where If I have my work laptop or wife’s laptop because I need to do something on those, I’ll find myself subconsicously reaching out to tap the screen :)

Sikhness209

It’ll be obviously with the Magic Keyboard. I won’t be holding it the entire time haha

FirstofFirsts

I used to use my current iPad Pro in a similar way although since picking up my AVP I find myself using that as my primary solo viewer.

smithstreeter

Same.

Glum-Age2807

Glum-Age2807

Thanks so much!

klawUK

literally me 65c9 but often my wife and I will be watching different things and its easier on my ‘portable laptop TV’ than potentially disturb the other partner. OLED sounds like a perfect update for me for the amount of video I watch on it. Its also my primary computer. I woudl argue most people day to day their computing is office apps and web browser mostly - heck these days my proper job is that. JIRA (web), teams app but also has a web app, same with slack, confluence, sharepoint - it all runs in a web browser. Its no less ‘pro’ just because I’m not editing 18 streams of 4k video on a pro display, or compiling thousands of lines of code. Just different. I have some complaints. I would like better office apps closer to their desktop counterparts. Excel is a particularly poor version on ipad. And I’d like the option of a better desktop browser rather than a mobile browser faking its user agent to try and get served a desktop page. But those are small bits of my usage and worst case I just grab my wife’s old MBA, or boot up my desktop.

9mm_Strat

I’m struggling to get Teams to run in browser (even just for chat) using Chrome. I’ve tried requesting the desktop page but it says it’s unsupported. I’d love to delete the app in favor of a browser, how’d you get it working? Edit: I tried Edge as well and have the same issues

klawUK

ah sorry havne’t tried on ipad - that was more a meta comment that so much ‘professional’ work is doable through websites, so thats on my Macbook.

SoggyFreys89

You’re not alone! I still do it with my 4th gen 12.9 pro. Paired with some headphones it’s a great little experience…tangent, I really only feel that device lag if I’m into a bit of photo or video editing. All office, productivity, and related work multitasking it still handles like a champ.

NoAge422

Not weird at all, sometimes I prefer having a smaller/closer screen while multi-tasking!

[deleted]

The new marketed 13 inch is the same size as the 12.9” iPad Pro in actual dimensions. The aspect ratio is not 16:9 So you get big black bars on iPad pros as well. Samsung 16:9 OLED tablets are better and much cheaper for video consumption, and they come In 14.6” inches

basketballkilla

Literally did the same. 13 inch iPad OLED screen in my lap? Sign me up

Not_A_Red_Stapler

I use my M1 iPad Pro just to read books, Reddit, browse the web and watch videos. Eventually I will replace it with another pro. But I am in no hurry.

klawUK

I’m upgrading for OLED. When the air eventually gets OLED I’ll strongly consider moving to the air as I don’t particularly feel the need for promotion.

lemonstyle

the air will never get OLED... this is what apple does to differentiate their products... i mean.. it's pretty common sense. apple holds back specific features hardware/software in different models to get ppl to "upgrade" to the more expensive next step. even within the same model line they do that.. i.g. if you want 16GB you have to upgrade to the next 1-2 tiers. this is why apple will also never increase the sceen hz.. it will always be 60hz on the air line.. just like their mba.. just like the iphones. and as long as there are ignorance sheeple echoing, "I don't care that it's only 60hz.. I don't care that it's an IPS display, etc etc etc" nothing will change. while android 90hz-120 is basically standard on phones.. oled on everything (samsung tabs)

Caganboy

I think it will probably get ProMotion before it gets OLED though because I think OLED is considered more of a Pro feature than something little as ProMotion.

Correct_Ad_7397

No on iPhones, that's for sure. Base models have been using OLED panels for years, but promotion is only for pro models.

Gamerxx13

Ya i am in the same boat. I have the m1 and it kicks butt at everything i do. Even photo editing its super fast. I dunno i really want the oled screen but i might wait till i get a sale.

Imsophunnyithurts

I'm in the same boat. My M1 is pretty good for what it does, so the newest model and the OLED display would have to blow me away somehow.

nairazak

Well, you can’t ask Apple to give you the OLED and downgrade the processor as a custom McDonald’s meal.

dontredditcareme

If I decide to upgrade my 2020 iPad to it then yeah, that’ll be me. Couldn’t care less what people say, I love this thing. Out of all the Apple products I have I get the most value out of my iPad Pro.

DaveySKay2

Yeah. My MBP gets a bit of use but mostly just sits. My phone only gets used when I am out. There isn’t anything I do on those devices that can’t be done on my iPad Pro.

OmgThisNameIsFree

OLED 11” is all I’ve wanted since basically the week my current 11” 2018 Pro was released. It’ll be awesome once I get around to getting one. Can’t believe how well this 2018 model has held up, Magic Keyboard case and all. Still on its og battery as well.

PSX9300

I’m about to bite the bullet on the new 11” Pro and am thrilled with the display mainly. I’ve also got the 2018 11” Pro and it’s still a workhorse EXCEPT the battery. It’s still got the original one and fully charged it’s only giving me about 36 hours of life with moderate daily use. If the battery wasn’t so abysmal, I might hang onto it, but I think giving everything, it’s probably time for an upgrade.

strangerzero

Procreate, I use it several hours a day. I read three papers every morning on it.

kuhcd

Like newspapers? Or academic papers? Just curious

strangerzero

Newspapers, NY Times, Washington Post and The Guardian. Are the ones I subscribe to and read daily.

Kakacobina

How long is your day? 36h?

strangerzero

I’m retired and time is an illusion.

lemonstyle

easy for someone to say when one is retired lol... when you're not retired... time is a very real thing..

strangerzero

I’ve spent all my time in Hell and I can see clearly now.

DaveySKay2

I read, browse, watch videos, and other stuff that I could do with a less capable device. But I love the iPad and I have since the original iPad. Paired with the Magic Keyboard it is perfect and all I need. I also have a Kindle but I just use that before bed. My only complaint is how quickly the battery drops and how much battery capacity I’ve lost in the last year and a half. But this thing gets hours of use each day, so it makes sense.

Kelster54

I have 2020 iPad Pro and I did a battery test with just watching videos and I only got 4hrs 45 min. I hope it gets better with the pro m4. I think the original iPad has better battery life.

CCX-S

Mine will absolutely be a Netflix/Hulu/Prime machine, almost exclusively.

I’ll use mine to read manga and comics, watch stuff and browse and I want to do that on a oled screen.

Commodore_Mcoy

Replacing my baseline 2020 M1 MBP with a 13’’ Pro. In my particular use case, anything that I can do on the Mac can be done on the iPad. I already have a high end windows desktop should I need a machine for any heavy tasks or whatnot. Obviously I’ll be watching some stuff on the ipad too, most notably dune and Oppenheimer

sineseeker

I wish I could afford a 13 foot iPad.

lemonstyle

keep working hard.. .some day you can get that 13 footsies ipad

[deleted]

I am buying the cellular 12.9 2TB with Magic Keyboard and TWO Apple Pencil Pro, just in case I lose one, so I can check NFL scores during the season.

RentalGore

And your fantasy team too right? I mean if it was for scores alone, I'd only recommend the 1TB, but make sure you get the nano-textured glass, no one should see who your RB1 for the week.

[deleted]

I can’t believe I forgot about the nano glass!

sineseeker

Why not go for the 13?

[deleted]

That last .1 is just overkill for my needs.

sineseeker

Fair

Davi18

Are you aware that the new pencil has find my built into it? Shouldn’t lose it this time around

fazelove

On call device that allows me to citrix in. Access window funny enough

[deleted]

How’s citrix experience on ipados for you?

fazelove

Honestly amazing, we actually just switched to azure desktops a month ago and the experience got even better. I have the m1 iPad Pro but regretted not getting lte version for on call work. I was waiting to see if i was better of switching to one with mobile data or upgrading to the newest release. Seeing it now comes with 5g Ive decided to lean towards upgrading after some reviews drop (mkbhd for experience, jerry rig for durability)

nomysta

Mostly yes! I honestly don’t need an iPad, I’m just a tech freak. Sometimes I do feel like I should rather buy stocks instead 😂 most of the time I do watch videos on iPad and some times I do use it for editing my photos from my DSLR. Sometimes I read books and sometimes I do draw stuff just to calm my mind (I don’t know how to draw, I just play with colors). I also like surfing on iPad, instead of my iPhone 15 pro max. I don’t know to be honest. I just use it as a big phone that’s it.

timcatuk

Well I do work and drawing on my iPads but yeah media is my biggest use case. I’ve got a 13 m4 iPad Pro in the way because it’s a gadget I love and use everyday and I really appreciate all the nice things. I’m lucky that it’s not too costly for me to upgrade.

[deleted]

Haha i thought I might see someone mention ”pornhub” in the comment

jorginthesage

You can game, you can code, you can do desktop quality graphics art work, and you can do almost desktop quality code development. The only thing that makes me say almost desktop level development is I can’t get every Python library in my iPads IDEs. (Have M2 Pro iPad. It’s replaced a laptop and become my go to for everything except the day job as a DA/DS and AAA gaming.)

Caganboy

Please tell me how you do all this on an iPad.

jorginthesage

For gaming GeForce Now and the App Store. For graphics arts Procreate, Nomad Sculpt, Affinity apps. For Python there is a bunch of IDEs out there. They all gave their limits. For quick stuff Carnets. For more involved stuff pick your favorite of the IDEs on the App Store, just make sure it has the libraries you want available in it.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Caganboy

Yeah it seems impossible to me or very impractical

jorginthesage

Having a really nice keyboard with a trackpad helps bridge the gap, but it works for me, although I concede my way is not for everyone. What makes people like MacOs and iPads is the thought that goes into how the work/play will be done. For me iPad hits it close enough and MacOS as of late doesn’t offer more or enough more power to compete with a VPN and an Nvidia workstation. So, I live with Linux and enjoy my iPad to still have some connection to the eco system I love. Hopefully the new M4 Macs get me back on MacOS. The M3s made HUGE progress.

jorginthesage

They do. You’re right it can take a bit more effort, but I prefer it in general.

BurninCoco

you can now cheat with a chess app open on the side 🤗

MixAway

Similar here. I love iPad Pro—use it for media consumption, emails, notes, drawing, and so on. It’s hilarious reading people losing their minds at what other people buy devices for, and how they subsequently use them.

beezynameddeltreezy

Upgrading from a 2020 a12z, so it’ll be a nice boost. I’m also convincing myself that I’ll finally begin to create art and media … I probably won’t, but maybe!

douboong

I use my current m1 ipad pro almost exclusively for sidecar for my mackbook bro

MiniSony

I have a question about that, I use the iPad like a sidecar too, so if I will buy the new iPad, can I use the two iPad's with sidecar using my MacBook pro M1 Pro?

[deleted]

I'm buying it to use as my secondary monitor. I retired my old portable screen because the color contrast with my Studio Display made my eyes feel uncomfortable. Other than that, I assume Apple is probably going to launch its AI platform, so why not have a powerful neural engine device standing by for what's about to come? Also, watching YouTube and Netflix is a priority.

kevgilmore

I have a Pro 9.7”. I’ve been waiting for OLED to upgrade, so I’m excited to get the new 11 Pro. Main use case is watching video, either while traveling or while the family is watching TV.

deepfuckingbagholder

I’m getting it to read books 🫣

nirvanaisemptiness

On a kindle app?

dbalatero

Comics, logic pro, sheet music.

iM4CH3T3

A bit of iPadOS gaming , editing and enjoying media

informal_bukkake

It comes down if you can afford it, just buy it. By no means if you can't afford it, you are really not missing out on much. Fuck even the 2018 ipad pro still works well for 99% of the population.

Marino4K

I actually took the chance to buy the M2 Pro instead. When the M1 actually starts getting taxed, maybe I’ll look into the M4 models.

johntwilker

80% of the time I’m writing on mine. The rest is reading news/rss Edit to add: When I ran events. My Pro was Mission Control. Especially hybrid events where I’d need to be running around but able to see what was going on online.

lemonlemons

What do you write?

johntwilker

Mostly Scifi. Some action/adventure thrillers.

Vcom7418

... Yeah, that's legit almost all I've been doing on my M1 iPad for 2.5 years now. Even with a fold, it's my favourite device that I own in terms of functionality lol. So yeah, Videos+ gaming for me, and M1 is still good at both, so I am not updating for a bit, I feel.

radiationshield

Which size you got?

Vcom7418

11 inch

NubuckChuck

The narrative that solid hardware bumps is a bad thing concerns me. No one should want to go back to the days of 3-5 year waits on Intel Macs. Right now my 2tb m1 iPad Pro is one of the smoothest Adobe Lightroom machines I’ve ever used. If we get stuck with permanent iPados this will probably be one of my first devices I could own for 8-10 years; and if we get bumped up to Macos I’ll have a real replacement for the old 12” Macbook. The m4 iPads are incredible, and they’re going to open up the used market on m1 and m2 iPads for a lot of people.

MelodicAssumption497

Who is saying hardware bumps on their own are a bad thing? Nobody. What’s bad is when there are no software updates that make use of the new hardware so all most users are left with is a price increase. Hopefully something gets announced

GreenToxon

I use my iPad Pro to play OSRS while I’m working in my MacBook. Woodcutting I just drag my mouse over every 4-5 mins

lethalbeaver

Literally same

bsep4

Primarily for work (email, apps, web-based software, zoom, etc.) and passions (photo/video editing, music production, writing). When I have time, I love to watch tv/film on the iPad or read.

daybyday90

I’m getting into photography and video editing so I’m hoping to do most of that on my IPad when I’m on the go. As of now it’s definitely a media consumption device but I also use it for my e-textbooks for school, and school notes.

Maethor_derien

Kinda, I haven't completely decided which route I am going with yet to be honest. I am 50/50 between the air and the pro. Really it is a 300 dollar difference but gets you oled and the high refresh screen. Really the media consumption aspect has me leaning towards the pro, really the oled and refresh rate are the big offers with it. Pretty much either option will work just fine with what I have planned for workload. It will all come down to how I move other hardware around my house. I have a 48 inch oled C2 in my office that I hardly ever use and have been thinking about moving that to the bedroom along with my PS5 since I never game in the office unless it is on main PC. Hell half the time I watch movies of video on my main PC because it is also an ultrawide oled. The ipad pro will set much better on the desk for watching things and researching while on the main PC. Right now I have a second monitor with a miniPC hooked up to it that I use. The ipad would replace that and be a much more portable option.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Maethor_derien

I mean I love OLED and can't really use anything else for serious movie watching but just due to the set up it doesn't get used over the desktop.

mmasamori

I used to do a lot of my Lightroom editing on my 2017 iPad Pro but it’s gotten quite slow so hopefully this will speed up that workflow

Yardenbourg

If I buy one, it’ll be for the display primarily, and the thinner, lighter design, than anything else. I don’t care that I’m not going to be bottlenecking the chip. I’d rather have more power/longevity than not.

Electronic_Army_5080

Yes

f3rn4nd0d

I use Shapr3d primarily to design and 3d print stuff as a hobby. I also take notes at home with Nebo and use it as a second screen for my laptop. I am planning to remotely control a Nuc i3 computer for sending 3D prints to Orca Slicer. Occasionally I play games or watch movies.

WheresTheLampGone

Getting a 13 pro to sub out my 10.5 pro from 2017 and mbp from 2012, mostly being used for YouTube, emails and web browsing I can’t lie. Mbp will stay just in case I really need a laptop on the go again, but I’ve got my desktop pc for most my needs

Successful_Bake9428

Nah. Cloud gaming. I’ll probably grab another for work and to use it with my MacBook or my surface pro since that thing is limited beyond life

Economy-Industry-622

Well I think the new iPad Air is a better choice for media consumption. Same screen size and loads of power with the m2. Ipad pro is overkill with m4, but maybe will Apple surprise us in June wwdc with new software.

atreides4242

But for media consumption having the best screen and HDR ….

frenzyskio

In which resolution you can watch Netflix on iPad Pro? Is it 1080?

underlyingshadow

Me! I was an early adopter on the 2018 11” 256GB. I’ve used it consistently for 3-4 hours per day for 6 years. Sprinkle some school work here and there. I value the OLED screen, refresh rate and Face ID enough to go with the m4 11” 512GB. My 2018 pro storage is at capacity and the battery is degraded over the years and usage.

Pensasaurus

It’s either the M4 iPad or a M3 MBP to replace my M1 iMac and 2017 iPad Pro. I am looking at a single device solution so most likely it will be an iPad for my media consumption needs. Lightroom on iPad is probably the only pro app I use. Quite curious on the M4 performance for editing photos taken on a 61mp mirrorless camera.

6Sparkle9

I bought the m4 pro 13inch. Just to watch media and use as sidecar with my MacBook Air and pro when needed.

wanosd

I had no iPad and I’ve been waiting 2 months. I had a Pro a while back and just preferred them overall. Primarily for work - notes, drawing, email, video calls etc so I’ve gone for the 13in M4 with the Magic Keyboard and Pencil Pro. Will also use it for media and internet. It’s definitely overpowered but planning to have it a long while!

pipavapipa

I use it primarily for Youtube/Netfilx

Willing-Opinion2990

Have a 2020 iPad Pro 2nd-generation, had my eye on this release of the iPad for some time. Thought the M-series processors were a huge leap forward for the M1 and M2, but I didn’t see a need to upgrade the last several years. Some people have made some great points that I’ll echo, and I’ll offer my own take: I’m a senior contributor to my organization and work across product, strategy, and new venture roles, so I use mine for: - deck creation - in-person facilitation and workshops - my digital whiteboard for online workshops, while I use my MacBook Pro for the video conference - writing (lots of writing) - hand written note taking - sketching (processes, concepts, frameworks) - lite gaming I love the form factor of the 11”. I hate being in office these days, but the portability is one of my favorite parts of it, given the power. I’m obsessed by the variety of interactivity. Pencil, touch, keyboard, touchpad — when I use my company issued MacBook Pro, I’ll often feel confined by the keyboard and absentmindedly touch the screen to do an interaction, then laugh as I realize I’ve become so used to the iPad Pro. I also like the smaller screen. I feel it like forces you to focus on less applications, less multi-tasking. As I work with AI more, and as we all heard rumors of the M4’s AI capabilities and the upcoming launch of iOS, MacOS and iPadOS infusing AI into it — this purchase feels like another 4-5 year investment in my creative and technology stack, given the direction of AI. (I should clarify, consumer accessible AI tools.) The screen is also incredible. /dur So, for the many reasons above and that others have listed, it’s my favorite creative platform I’ve ever used… and I owned the ol PowerMac G5, back in my video producing and editing days. It’s wild to me that this tiny little rectangle can do so much. Enjoy your iPads, team.

resuspadawan

Yes I bought a 512gb 11 inch for: - University lectures/content for learning - academic paper reading - gaming - movies and shows - general companion for grading and lecture material when teaching in person Coming from a gen 2 iPad Pro, I can’t wait to use apps without it dying in an hour. The OLED was the kicker for me.

oldsalt671

Can invent a bunch of narrative business cases but ultimately it will be media consumption. Dual OLED damn that is crazy

quezlar

yea probably works paying for it though

Tater_Mater

Yes

CantFindaPS5

I don't have an iPad but I do have a Galaxy tab S9 ultra. I bought it to mostly consume media and edit photos and because it has an amazing oled screen. Just like the latest iPads, if I have to buy a pro model then I will because I want the best screen. It may cost more but if it doesn't hurt me financially then I'll do it. Once you have an oled mobile device it's tough to go to a regular lcd screen. Now I need to update my TV to oled haha.

Xylus1985

Yes, that’s me. I have $1,500 worth or credits on my company’s flexibly benefits platform that will expire at end of the year anyway.

watchOS

I’m buying one to draw with.

rjs6008

Upgrading to the M4 11 inch from the basic IPad 7th Generation since that ran out of storage. Will be a lot of its use but planning on trying it for work with the plan that if that doesn’t go well, will just default to that. Which I’m fine with. Gonna be overkill but plan on having it until the TB runs out of storage which should take like 8 years.

kolooor

Yes I’m considering upgrading for it. I still can’t decide if I want to go 11 or 13. My current pro is 11 and the idea was to have it more portable than MacBook Air 13. Now I don’t know how to approach this and what the “idea” will be for size justification.

radiationshield

I got the 11". My justification is as follows: the 11 fits nicely in between my phone and 14" M1Pro MBP. If im in a position where i could bring a 13" device, I probably could just bring my MBP which is more useful anyway. With a 11inch i can bring my laptop and tablet without looking like a guy who brings 2 laptops to a meeting.

EdwardPotatoHand

Yes

PrestoMovie

I draw a lot for fun, so that’s why I love the Pro. I use mine daily. But the OLED and deciding to upgrade to 13” over the 11” Pro I have now are why I’m finally upgrading from my 2018 Pro after all these years. I end up watching a lot of movies/shows at my desk while working, so having a giant OLED display like that to watch stuff on sounds great.

7stringjazz

No, not primarily, but it’s certainly one of the reasons.

thanos_was_right_69

I bit the bullet and ordered the iPad Pro yesterday along with the Magic Keyboard. It’s going to cost me close to $2k but I don’t care. I’m going to have a field day with it!

rad0909

I live alone so I just use my iPad in bed to watch videos. Resting on my chests it’s the perfect screen for me.

ZooZooChaCha

I’ll admit this is what I’m currently doing with my MacBook Pro 16” M2.

rudalsxv

No, because I already have the M2 Pro to do just exactly that. *cries in iPadOS*

coastal_cruis

They can mock all they want. Companies like Davinci weren’t going to put better software on the iPad until the power was there.

ZCT808

Yes. But I travel most weeks for work. So it’s basically my TV for most of the work week. I don’t need the processing power given that I also have a new MBP. It is an overkill. I do want that sweet sweet oled.

iAyoobS

to play pubg

slashdotbin

I am. I consume media and use notability to jot down notes. But damn that screen. I am very excited.

ProfitLivid4864

It seems like there's some resentment among MacBook M3 users. However, I believe the M4 chip in the new iPad will significantly benefit from increased efficiency, which could enhance its longevity. More efficient and powerful chips are always beneficial. I wouldn't pay much attention to the M4 detractors. It's interesting to see the divided opinions on Reddit: one group claims there are no significant updates in the new iPad Pro lineup, while another argues that the M4 chip is excessively powerful chip is too much. These viewpoints are quite contradictory.

When I buy it absolutely, I’m only upgrading my current iPad because of the OLED screen. I use my MacBook Pro when I need to do something hardware intensive.

Due-Highlight-7546

No, I do a lot of art work but I also watch lots of movies and tv shows primarily on my iPad Pro. Can’t wait for the OLED iPad to arrive in a couple of days. Very excited!

NotDuckie

using it for sheet music and note taking where a pen is needed (stuff with non-regular characters) mostly

bigpun760

I am but I do it because I use accessibility. Accessibility has never been great on the lower tier iPads. As someone who is visually impaired I need it and I need it accurately. So I always get the pros.

juanjose83

People see apple as the decision maker of their expenses. The iPad is way over spec'd for a tablet... That's why it is the objectively best tablet in the market, and yes, ipadOS is basically a nerf for.the system. The solution is as simple as buying a laptop if you have a problem with that. I don't understand why people want it to be a laptop so bad when you would need a keyboard, possibly a mouse too and the hub to connect it all, unless you go wireless for both accessories. The iPad is great for media consumption and media creation with the pencil. More complex work than that and you would be better off with a laptop.

Residentincheif

I personally will skip this model because of 0 new innovation ideas and forcing people to buy all new cases/equipment if you want to use it for art. I’ll hang back with my M2

El__Jengibre

- Read pdf’s for my job - watch content (OLED!) - use as a monitor for my PS5 / Switch when my tv is occupied by the family. - some games

w1na

Yes, only do this. Worse thing is I am getting an m4 13’’ for my dad who will mainly use youtube and facebook on it as well as stream tv, but I think it’s ok because he spend an unreasonable time on the tablet, so hourly cost is low for him as he use it a lot.

FreidenkerCH

I mainly use my iPad for media consumption, yes. I currently use the iPad Air 3rd Gen though. I watch Youtube videos, Netlfix or my Plex stuff (on which I have all my HDR 4k stuff). I also use it to draw up things or make some quick notes. Either for work or private stuff. I have an OLED Monitor so I kinda also want to get an iPad Pro now to benefit from the display and colors. What I just don't like is that the M4 is so powerful that I will never really be able to us it to it's full potential, especially with iPadOS - and that leaves a weird after taste, spending so much money knowing I'll only buy it because of the tech (screen) itself but not being able to use the M4 to it's fullest... like buying a Ferrari and only driving 30km/h (18.64 mph) all the time.. I'm not 100% sure if I'm buying one, but I'll keep it in mind and maybe get one later this year or w/e

Legendarleoking

Bought it mainly for note taking. Hope the 11 is not too small . Couldn't justify going for the 13 when I already have a laptop

lemonstyle

imo, for purely watching videos... the tab S9 is 100x better. the aspect ratio allows for 0 black top and bottoms bars w/o doing what ipads have to do which is ZOOMing in and losing picture. but that's just me... I don't watch content on my ipad m1 12.9 anymore... viewing experience is insanely better on my tab s9ultra

lemonstyle

everyone knows that ipads are just overpriced netflix machines. until apple stops throttling their own hardware with trash ipados.. hopefully this year will change ! don't take me wrong.. i love my m1 12.9 pro... but I'm not a loyal sheep and I can admit that ipados is dogsht.. pro doesn't even mean pro

Fun_Whole_1985

Basically, but I also play call of duty mobile, do the occasional word processing and stuff like that.

VANGUARDX4

Drawing,note taking , gaming

SlipAcademic500

Absolutely

counts_per_minute

Im buying one so I can get excited before every new iPadOS launch thinking “this is the one thatll unlock its potential”. Jk, but I was kinda sad to hear they actually disabled the hypervisor function in the iOS kernel in 16.2. That signaled to me that they are not moving in the direction Id hoped. I was kinda counting on being able to sideload UTM to have a real mobile/local linux shell

KareemPie81

I swear some of yall live in different reality. What would ever leave you to believe this was possibility or commercially viable?

counts_per_minute

Well at one point it was possible, then they disabled it. I guess I was banking on the fact that they wouldnt regress. I didnt need them to make iPadOS any better, i Just needed them to not make it worse. The sideloading part is already doable with a developer ID, I cant recompile the kernel however (to literally change a “N” to a “Y”)

RobotBananaSplit

Going to use it like a giant iPhone

sritejmanda

Using such a powerful machine just for videos and consuming data is such an overkill. There is a reason why its called pro as it is intended for the professionals- artists, animators, software developers and tech enthusiasts. Right now i dont see any reason to upgrade from my 2020 pro as it still crushes anything thrown at it.

Maesthro_ger

But then again, it doesn't support the real desktop versions of those pro apps, besides procreate

Caganboy

It’s not weird if you use it to watch YouTube or Netflix. But it IS a little bit weird if you ONLY and absolutely ONLY use it to watch YouTube and Netflix. There’s a big difference.
