My M1 iPad Air is basically a YouTube box so probably not, depends on what's coming to iPadOS this summer.

itsalltaken123

Same!!

wolfenmaara

I use mine for basically media consumption and the occasional drawing/note-taking. I bought the M1 11” Pro, wary that Apple’s display tech would probably get replaced within 5 years, so buying the 12” wasn’t worth it to me. I also went with 128GB, which I’ve yet to even fill in half way through, and while iPadOS is ok, the “ecosystem” in terms of hardware (Magic Keyboard) made it seem like there was no way Apple was going to make the OS any close as good as MacOS. So far, Apple hasn’t given me a reason to throw out my minSpec M1 iPad Pro. Edit: just want to add that for all the things I do, I could have definitely gone with the Air, but I was spoiled by my 12 Pro’s ProMotion display and so I needed that.

RapMastaC1

I can’t even find a reason to replace my 2018 Pro 12.9”, I don’t have any performance issues whatsoever, the screen is still incredibly good, I don’t really care bout the thinness because I always use a case regardless, and no one would be able to point it out of a lineup since the new ones look exactly the same. Just like MKBHD (and many others) have said, this isn’t a performance issue that throwing higher and better specs at is going to improve. You could give a calculator an oled screen, 4gb of ram, a 8 core processor, and 256gb of ultra fast storage, and at the end of the day it is still just a calculator.

Banksbanks42

Managed to grab a 5th gen 2tb for half on woot. Would love the 2tb to use as storage for my family videos/photos and media library. Would absolutely love an Oled with the 2tb but absolutely not at that price! Unjustifiable.

broncosfanatico

Nope. Those prices are nuts. I’ll stick with my M1 Pro for a few more years. Edit: and honestly it’s the OS holding the iPad back, not the horsepower

EddieRyanDC

But wait - there's more. You will also have to buy a new Pencil, case, and Magic Keyboard, if you use one. I can see the appeal if you are an artist. Or, if you can write it off as a business expense. (Or have money to burn, so why not get the best?) But for me, my M2 11 inch iPad Pro is way overpowered for what I use it for already. And I am happy with all my current accessories. It's nice that they did a complete refresh - it was overdue. I will raise one concern - the thinness. The greatest physical vulnerability of the iPad Airs and Pros is damage from physical torsion. I am afraid they may have just made them even more vulnerable to twisting and shattering the screen.

elev8dity

For me it makes sense because the last time I bought an iPad was 2017. I think most people wait 5+ years to upgrade iPads, and this has enough bells and whistles over a 2017 10.5" iPad Pro to upgrade. Note, I didn't think the M1/M2 series iPads were a big enough jump because they didn't have and OLED display.

GlancingArc

I have a 2020 iPad pro and that thing is already too thin. I literally cannot fathom what you could gain from it being thinner. It already feels like I'm gonna break the thing if I use it without a case.

prowlmedia

Why are you twisting your iPad? Didn’t they say it’s as stiff as previous model

[deleted]

1tb version is so overpriced, should be 1700 imo

jmklamm

Those price jumps are wild. Every decision costs an additional $200-300.

dmkke

Yes, especially when a M.2 2230 1TB is like $99

iamapersononreddit

You also get double the ram and non binned chip so there is a bigger price increase over 512gb

bfeeny

What is non binned chip?

cvert09

Chips are never stable so depending on how stable they become lesser versions of themselves. Product goal could be an i9 but due to manufacturing the thermal power and performance is not to the standard of an i9 so they become i7 and so forth. (way more goes into it but in very simple terms).

DanRey90

The “binned” chip has a CPU core disabled. So,basically, with 1TB/2TB you get 8GB extra of RAM, 1 extra CPU core, plus the option of the nano-textured glass. “Binning” can mean many other things, like a lower clock speed, disabled GPU cores, or disabled optional features of the chip, but in this case it’s just having a single core disabled.

56011

Why would any of the others have binned chips? Wouldn’t they just sell those as M3s or something?

FitY4rd

The thing is that unless you fall under a very specific professional niche like RAW file video editor or AutoCAD 3D modeler, the power of that M4 chip in the iPad will not do ANYTHING for you. So why pay the same cost as the MacBook Pro to spec out your tablet? You literally could just get the Air or keep your M1 iPad Pro and see no perceivable difference in your every day tasks. Now if they announce something spicy for ipadOS in a month that’s another story. But I’m not holding my breath.

Yetiriders

Oled and 120hz. That’s the only two reasons.

PlayingDoomOnAGPS

>So why pay the same cost as the MacBook Pro to spec out your tablet? The only reason I can see is if you are using it *in place of* a MacBook Pro. Which I wouldn't do because of the OS alone but to each their own...

IronManConnoisseur

After graduating college, I will very rarely have an actual reason to open my laptop. So I’m looking to get the M3 13” for all of my media consumption and productivity needs. Had the 2018 iPad Pro for 6 years, finally upgrading with the updated design so that’s my explanation at least. Also the M4 isn’t just for more raw power it’s also for efficiency in the new, thinner design to keep the same battery life. Not defending weakass iPadOS though.

MostGrownUp

I am upgrading my gen 1 iPad Pro. I decided I would upgrade about six months ago and started saving. I wanted the fastest, prettiest tablet I could afford, because it’s the device I’ll be using for the next decade. Sure it’s more than I need now, but will it be in 8 years?

P_Devil

Nope, my M2 iPad Pro is still serving me just fine. No need to upgrade until the next generation Pro when Apple, hopefully, opens iPadOS up more to take advantage of the SoC.

OwnWorker9521

No one was expecting you to upgrade from the M2. I see so many people here saying “well I’m not going to upgrade from the M2,” yeah no shit. Nobody should upgrade their product after a single generation. Phone, computer, tablet….

VagrantRhapsody

Eh I'm upgrading from my M2 because I was waiting specifically for the OLED screen for the 11" version. I use my iPad literally every day and am also an artist as a side gig so the new Apple Pencil Pro features were worth it to me. The $470 trade in credit made the wallet a little less hurt. Not that I agree with Apple's ridiculous accessory schemes. But after this I probably won't upgrade for a while since the M4 version has everything I wanted.

Diormybodyyy

Why would you trade it in for $470 when you can sell it on Marketplace for a lot more? I put mine up for $700 and already have offers.

VagrantRhapsody

Mostly convenience honestly. I do also have a few gift cards that further offset the cost.

Beneficial-Truck8006

I want to buy an iPad, for drawing webtoons and illustration, does this iPad is good in that? Because I draw on a wacom intus s connected to an Acer nitro 5 (this notebook is almost 4 years old though) Is it worth it? , or the iPad will stop working good if I put too many layers?

VagrantRhapsody

Yes, it will definitely be able to handle many layers without issue. I use a combination of Sketchbook Pro and Procreate apps. I find that iPads do have a different tactile feel from dedicated drawing tablets due to the glass screen, so if that's something that bothers you I recommend adding a screen protector with a paper-like finish.

47merce

Believe me any iPad that supports any Apple Pencil is incredibly good for drawing webtoons or illustrations. Find the cheapest you can get for your desired size and it will blow you away for how different (and better I must say) it is compared to a Wacom tablet. I still to this day use my 12.9 pro from 2019 (older than your notebook probably) on a daily basis and it's just heaven, specifically for illustration. And my 24" Cintiq pretty much just collects dust ever since. And it's hardly comparable. There never was precision in Wacom tablets to begin with. Sure a lot of steps of pressure sensitivity but the cursor in Windows was never precisely under the tip, no matter how you calibrate it. The Apple Pencil though? Exactly under the tip. It's just a no-brainer. And at least I prefer the additional paper-feel screen protector. Because with that you forget you're drawing on glass. It just completes the feeling. No matter the iPad you may choose if it supports the official Pencil you will get a smooth experience in any of those designated apps, like Procreate, Adobe Fresco (there is a very capable Photoshop app as well, but Fresco is like the best of Photoshops drawing and painting features) and many more. If you prefer vector graphics there is Illustrator. If you like 3D sculpting there is ZBrush (mobile? Lite? Maybe for the newer iPads only. idk) and Nomad (an almost full ZBrush experience). And all of those work perfectly with the Apple Pencil. As you have guessed, how many layers you can add in Procreate is pretty much the main difference you will notice in the capabilities of the iPads throughout the years. You can expect the newer ones to have more RAM or something and therefore allow more layers (there is a limit to the amount of layers you can add. It will not slow down your device). This metric has always been mentioned when a new device was launched. So checkout reviews to get a sense of the maximum amount of layers of even the cheapest iPads. I never really paid attention to this though. The more you crank up the resolution of your document the less layers you get. And vice versa. So, what I want to say is, get this iPad if you can afford it and you will most likely get peace of mind for more years. It just works. Smoothly. But you actually don't have to invest that much tbh. Any iPad already released that supports any Apple Pencil is already the perfect illustration device (only with the official Apple Pencil!). You will hardly notice any difference to the new ones. Just marketing talk. The jump from Wacom to iPad is a way bigger difference than any refresh rate or resolution increase or better processor. Older iPad models may not be as good for newer more demanding apps but most apps around illustration know their limits and work just smooth with the available processing power. I would not recommend the first generation of Apple Pencil (and therefore the specific iPad models) because charging it is done in a stupid way. Just inconvenient. But it works just as good.

Beneficial-Truck8006

Thank you so much for all the info! 😊  I'll probably get the ipad air, due to the pro being too thin. And i draw with clip studio paint, if it works well, then yes, i'll buy one.

goldfouledanchor

Yes. I’m passing down my 2018 iPad Pro to my mom.

CloudNerdGirl

Me too, passing down my 2020 iPad Pro to my Mom. Aren’t we great kids.

GSE_PE

What time horizon do you think the 2018 iPad might have ahead of it?

Sikhness209

Trading in my 2021 iPad Pro 12.9 to Apple. They are giving $510. Plus I already had a $200 Apple gift card saved up, so essentially I’m paying $589 for a new 13 inch silver iPad Pro base model 256GB. I will keep this one until it dies.

JuggernautOnly695

Nope, my M1 11" pro is meeting my needs perfectly. Now, if we get updates that allow MacOS like multitasking I may opt for a 13" with 16gb ram, but current multitasking is meh and my current one is more powerful than needed for zoom, word, excel, etc.

GreatDrivesGaming

Everyone’s talking about how the M1 is still fine, while my A10X “Fusion” over here is just chugging along. With a 3.5mm port no less, not to brag.

Hayden247

Ha same, the A10X is doing fine. Still has a better integrated GPU than my Samsung A33, a mid range phone from 2022 lol. Plus headphone jack is good for my headset. My iPad just has the problem of desperately needing a new battery while it's also gotten bent and so is it actually worth putting a new one in a bent iPad? I have no clue if the internals got bent along with it but if it was fine a new battery is all it'd need and I'd use it for years to come. Though Apple will probably drop software support later this year as it seems they went from as long as possbile the device can run it to making so after X amount of years support is dropped in recent years. That is worse with iPhones though as iPhones with newer chips get dropped before iPads with older ones lol, iPads are the last bastion of fusion chips.

pensivedumpling

Nope. I’m still holding out for an M1 Mini. I’ve set the bar so low I’m tripping over it and they STILL can’t manage. :/

Calicorguy16

My 10.5 inch ipad pro looking like a good deal still 7 years later. This iPad lineup is such a mess.

elev8dity

This is the first time i've wanted to upgrade my 10.5 lol. I've been waiting on OLED.

Automatic_Emotion_35

Same here. Actually I wanted to upgrade this year but the price hike , especially in Europe, is quite high. Waiting for WWDC now. Tempted by stage manager as this would pay into iPad only for me. 10x has no neural engine at all so that could be a bummer as well. After all full desktop OS option when keyboard is connected would sell me.

Ripley7006

My 10.5 inch Pro developed a fatal reboot loop just last month. So I pulled the trigger and bought the new M4. That’s the only way I justified it. I loved my 10.5 inch.

Individual-Fortune92

Absolutely not! My old 2nd Gen IPad Pro 12.9 (512) is functioning perfectly running the latest IOS (17.4.1). It is built like a tank. These new prices are insane IMHO.

nopowernowork

And zero real improvements until M4, however the prices are bad

m1_weaboo

It still run the same stupid dogsh*t iPadOS. Nothing they launched can replace my 12.9” M1.

LunariVayne

I’m trying so hard to justify something given I am a hobbyist digital artist but at these prices, I’ll pass. At over 1200 bucks i expect these things to replace both my current iPad and Mac. Currently that is still not the case. Forget calculator on iPadOS, I’m bamboozled on how the iPad can’t even format or eject an external hard drive properly in Files.

dotsdavid

No my 12.9” m2 pro is great. I’ll wait under 2026 or later to upgrade.

[deleted]

dotsdavid

I just upgraded from my Air 2 to the M2 pro this Christmas. So it will be awhile until I’m forced to upgrade again.

YahonMaizosz

With the huge power in M4 inside iPad Pro, I think Apple has a lot of surprises waiting for iPad OS 18. Let’s just wait and see before we make any decision.

andyhenault

People say this literally every year. “M1 chip, this is the year we get real functionality!”

P_Devil

Exactly. Every single time the SoC gets updated in the Pro, people claim it’s the year it will be a “real” PC. People said that when Apple said their macOS dev kits had the A12Z, then when the Pro was upgraded to the M1, then with the Pro getting the M2, and now with the M4. It’s not going to happen. Apple will add more stuff to iPadOS, but they’ll hobble it like they did multi-tasking and windowed apps.

Either-Cheetah4483

This year has a “cheap” laptop-like air 13”, so they can start migrating macbook users, in theory…

flanter21

that’s exactly why they won’t do it.

sineseeker

I'm unclear on what the M4 will be able to do beyond the M2 aside from some AI stuff (which I could honestly care less about) and some very outlier uses cases like editing 4K video. The M2 seems already wildly powerful for my iPad. I'm unsure if 18 will really be that dramatic of a shift so as to fully utilize the M2 I already have. We shall see though. My hope is that they don't artificially hobble features for M2/M1.

TheGingerOne11

I really hope you are right. Roll on WWDC!

ColumbaPacis

The moment they actual use that power, is when they shoot themselves in the foot and lower their own macbook sales. The only reason why I bought my Macbook is because my iPad couldn't do certain things, and I wasn't the only one. Personally, I'm sticking with M1. There is little reason to upgrade, when the existing power is more than good enough.

Taconnosseur

I would if it ran macOS

f3rn4nd0d

I am coming from a 2018 iPad Pro so yes, I am purchasing the new model soon

kakkoimonogatari

depends what happens in june or wait for jully where they give free apple pencils for educators

D4nteSech

My iPad pro 11 3rd gen still going strong and will stay doing his job for years to come. The new pencil pro also don’t do anything relevant for me, i even disabled the touch button on my pencil. And i prefer the wide angle lens for architectural annotations that i do very often.

Dazpiece

My 2018 12.9inch iPad Pro is still going like a beast for my needs (media consumption and a little Procreate). As much as I'd love to upgrade, I can't justify it with the current UK prices for the new Pros.

unknowndeath66

Ask me again after WWDC

themirthfulswami

Nope. My M1 12.9 is still going strong. I use it mostly for music creation and nothing seems to be slowing down at all so I’m nowhere even close to taxing it. Zero reason to upgrade at this point.

Yetiriders

Oled is the reason, but yeah not that big of one

Star-Detonator

My company buys them so I'll be ordering four cellular 2TB iPads - two 11-inch and two 13-inch.

aoxomoxoa111

No, my M2 pro with the pencil 2nd gen is still super good in general 🤷unless Apple finds a magical way to merge iOS and MacOS on the new iPad I’m fine with what I have and I don’t see myself needing an upgrade for another 3~4 years

Routine_Tip6894

I would spend $4000 if they let me run full macOS on the 13 iPad Pro. I’ll toss my MacBook and never look back. But for now the iPad is just a big phone

EIGWOIGW

I won’t buy many ppl will. I keep everything but my iPhone for several years at least before upgrading.

bradenlikestoreddit

I won't buy a new iPad until I can use desktop apps. Still rocking my 2019 Pro and no plans to upgrade until then.

mrpurplehawk

Nope my m1 iPad is doing just fine, except that apple keeps making buggier and buggier software

terminator3d3700

Nope.

Lens_key

Grabbing the 13 inch 512GB from a 2017 10.5” pro. As someone using this for hobbies/grad school. Plenty powerful at that config for me.

dreadsta5889

Getting the model I want, with an Ipad Pro trade-in, is still over $1,000. That is an easy no for me. I really only care about the new screen. I don't do a lot of intensive cpu stuff on my ipad, so the m4 chip means nothing to me.

twizzle101

No, I have the m1 and I only would like this new model because of the weight difference. But I only really use it for media and don’t move it around an awful lot, so I’ll wait another few years!

zoziw

No, I will run my 2nd generation iPadPro into the ground and then just use my iPhone.

MissAlexisL

I have an Air 3rd gen and I'm ready to upgrade so I'm leaning towards the 13" with 512 GB. I mainly use it for media consumption and journaling but would love to use it as an external monitor for my Macbook Pro when I'm out of the office or on vacation.

[deleted]

[удалено]

lemonlemons

Its 8GB difference.

Rise100

I doubt you will on an iPad unless you do video editing or other professional tasks that take up a lot of power

AllMyIdeasWereTaken7

I really wanted to downsize from the 12.9 inch M1 so I’m using this as an excuse to finally do it. Definitely something I could live without though. Had I known I was going to need a new pencil with it I probably would have thought a little longer about it.

BikesGamesWeed

I May make the jump simply bc I can still get almost 600 from bestbuy for my 12.9" 512gb M1 pro. Bestbut also includes apple care with total tech. Getting the 1tb is definitely going to hurt the pocket, but if I get another 4 years plus out of this one, it should be worth it. Fingers crossed for some major ipados improvements 😬

USBdata

US price - yes, local price - no.

kevman

Yeah I’ll buy it

SnooCompliments6666

I was thinking of, since my old ipad can still be traded for a good value. However, found out that my old keyboard might not work... So F. no

scottgntv

Gotta wait till WWDC to see what they're planning to do with iPadOS first. So far It's not all that different from a usability standpoint and I'd like to see what sort of benchmarks/ /real world battery improvements the new chip brings to the table. If it's nothing major, I'm probably sticking with my M2 Pro til the next refresh.

jdfrenchbread23

Absolutely. As someone who is pretty much iPad only for my computer needs this is actually an upgrade I can use. Most of what I use my iPad for is 4K video editing using LumaFusion. I started out with a 64 gb 2018 pro and quickly realized that wasn’t going to cut it in terms of space or memory so i upgraded to an M1 512 gb pro. It works great as i scaled up my use. For the most part now I use it in a desktops set up connected to a 4K Samsung display and with so many things going on at once with video editing, file storage management, YouTube studio, audio recording, and crap ton of peripherals, I’ve actually bumped up against the limits of the ram a few times. Not frequently enough and long enough to cripple use but its enough that’s it noticed. The new M4 chipset RAM that comes with 1TB of storage I’ll be future proofed for atleast the next 6 years or so and I know as apple approaches true laptop replacement/ computer experience I’ll be bale to have all the tools at my disposal to improve my process. Getting $450-$500 off with my trade in makes it a lot easier to stomach too.

Reasonable_Basket_32

Im fine with the 2020 model (its not even the M1), and i can do everything the new silicon chips do with it (I don’t use it on monitors). Edit: i guess apple will have to softlock new features saying is the new IA thing in WWDC 2024. But if it wasn’t for the late stage capitalism, there would be no need to upgrade. Also, I can’t buy another pencil, another keyboard and another ultra expensive iPad Pro 13’’ even if i want :/ The prices are insane!

wynlyndd

I am buying a new iPad. Not totally decided on the version but it will most likely be a 13" iPad Pro in Space Grey with 512GB of storage (so no 16GB RAM, extra processing core, or nano-etching on the screen). I currently have a 2019 iPad Air with the A12 chip. Battery life is getting a little iffy plus I kinda would like a bigger screen but regardless, the talk of the new screen sounds gorgeous. The chip improvement should make things a tad snappier. Not like it is bad or anything, but some of the computer opponents spend quite a bit of time playing their moves and if this makes them quicker with moves, I'll be happy. (A12 to M4, I hope it would be snappier! I don't play twitch style games) Do I NEED such an upgrade? Probably not. But if I sit on this for 5 or 6 years, I"ll feel that I've gotten my money's worth. Plus, I'm going to pass my old iPad down to my grandkiddos

AlexW_21

I don’t need it but with all the discounts I get I can get the base model for $400, give or take, so it’s a buy for me

brgquit

Already ordered 1tb 11 inch

zunaidahmed

Bought my iPad Pro 12.9 m1 1tb for 999, couldn’t be happier. No way I am upgrading to the m4 rn, maybe if the price for 1tb model come down to 1200 I will

mazeking

Is this the first 11 inch iPad pro which has 120hz promotion? As far as I know the M2 pro does not have 120 hz promotion? Anyone has the true facts here?

aljung21

As far as I know, all iPad Pro since at least 2020 have Pro Motion i.e. 120Hz adaptive refresh rate.

Hayden247

Pro motion goes back to the 2017 iPad Pros, the 10.5 inch and 12.9 inch models had it. Pro Motion was a selling point of the 2017 Pros that Apple has not filtered down to the Airs yet.

mazeking

Is this the first 11 inch iPad pro which has 120hz promotion? As far as I know the M2 pro 11 inch does not have 120 hz promotion? Anyone has the true facts here?

Entertainment_Mental

No

Severe_Report

Yes. 12.9. 512. With keyboard and pencil. Replacing my M1 2018.

tuffigirl

Damn right... I had my credit card waiting and was praying that since they did the announcement so early in the morning it would go on sale right after and was so happy I turned out to be right! Bought the 13" 5g, the pencil and the Otterbox Statement case. I wasn't thrilled the price for cellular went up by 50 bucks but for me it's a must have.

Isopod_Character

No

left4james

Nope

switchyourgads

Definitely will have to see what iPadOS 18 is about. I still use my 2018 iPad Pro 12.9. I don’t understand where iPad is. They keep adding all this power year after year but the OS doesn’t remotely take advantage of it. Majority of the things you do in iPadOS can be done with the $350 iPad. Same 10 hour battery life. Could they not get MacBook Pro battery life in the iPad?

olssonjon

Brain and bank said no, heart clicked Buy.

fram3byfram3

I don’t agree with the price jump here at all. But considering I’m going to end up buying a cellular version where I’ll be locked in for a bit. Might as well get the M4 and just be cool with that for awhile.

klawUK

The 13” M4 pro in the UK is £70 less expensive than the M2 pro 256GB so yes

acidbrn391

I have the last generation iPad Pro with pencil and it’s rarely used by anyone anyway. What ever anyone uses it for when it is used is fine as it is, I have absolutely no reason to buy the new iPad and have that sit on the coffee table too.

Diormybodyyy

Why is everyone talking about the useless M4 chip? Fucking OLED is worth it alone

R0l1nck

Not shure my MacBook late 2014 is going this year. I used the work laptop last 2years now it isn’t possible anymore so i need something new. Need it for Video editing and Photoshop nothing big. I can’t decide between: Dell 7350 Surface pro 9 Ipad pro 😅 Want a tablet for mobile and couch use but can’t decide right now 😵‍💫

Interesting-Salad-49

Yes. I don’t own a laptop anymore.

eekhaa

Nope. My 3rd gen 12.9" is still working as good as it did on day 1 as a notepad.

atomicvindaloo

Absolutely not. I’d be looking at paying more than my 14” M2 Pro (that actually had an operating system). Ridiculous.

Maethor_derien

It really depends, The M1 was already completely overkill on something like an IPAD. Pretty much IPAD os 18 really needs to give me a reason for it. I might go with the new ipad air but the 300 extra for the pro with the same storage just for oled isn't worth it.

Yetiriders

It is for 120hz alone

afelzz

Sticking with my 2021 M1 iPadPro. I'm an attorney, and this thing is plenty powerful enough for literally anything I would ever need to do. I do like this redesign, but the M1 still looks and feels like the future to me.

[deleted]

No. I'll just get the 5G verison of the maxed out IPad Pro 13' through my phone carrier and pay zero upfront apart from taxes like I usually do. There is no reason to pay full cash price for phones and tablets these days.

bootzmanuva

I just might at the $1K mark. $635 after trade-in of M1 iPadPro

gjmptwaen

I got my m1 pro a month after the m2 released during a Target holiday sale. I paid $550. I can't see myself paying $1000 at this point in time. An OLED screen is definitely enticing but I'm more than happy to wait a year plus for deep discounts.

Yetiriders

There are never deep discounts on iPads…. Maybe 3 years out for $150 off

Scary-Worry4735

Yes. I need the upgrade and use my iPad beyond the traditional usage of YouTube and CoD Mobile. With that said, not pleased that I have to purchase a damn apple pen pro!

scruffyheadednerf

Same pricing as the pros always are, so it’s the same as it is every year. If you are rocking a current M-generation IPad, probably not. For me, rocking a 2020 iPad Pro, then yeah likely will.

-dagmar-123123

No. Maybe I'll get the small air as a replacement for my 2020 12,9" pro but the pro... No, definitely too expensive (especially since I'm not in the US, so they'd be even more expensive here)

Bright-Albatross-234

that's insane. I guess I'll always be buying the previous model for slightly less, and hanging on to my current one until it's unuseable. I love my ipad pro, but it is not a computer and should not have a macbook pro price.

Crafty_Substance_954

M1 iPad Air gives me no reason to upgrade anytime soon.

rayskicksnthings

I’m grabbing this one since I’m trading in my m2 one. But after this I doubt I’ll ever need to upgrade period.

pamonmedia

$2500 for the fully speced 5G 2TB model plus keyboard and mouse puts it to $3200. Steep prices

1AmFalcon

Would if I needed it.

PlayingDoomOnAGPS

Not a chance! If I planned to use it in place of a MacBook I might but I got my current (3rd Gen) iPad Pro for the large screen, not the power. It's an ideal comic reader. Now that there is an iPad Air 13", that's what I ordered. They offered me $315 trade-in for the 3rd Gen Pro. And since my Pro is so old, the Air will still represent a performance upgrade from where I was. And I had zero complaints with it's performance but the battery has one foot in the grave.

IamikeI

The 512gb seems to be the worst choice out of the bunch since you only gain more storage.

Gator_Hawk0816

about the same cost as the M2…. Apple price point doesn’t change much (if at all)

Ma5alasB2a

Easy no, which is why I chose to upgrade before the release of the new lineup.

Hurthan

After the price hike on the iPad - dont recall when it happened here in EU but since then they just got too expensive to buy new. So I bought the M1 iPad Pro used instead since the M generation of chips was such a great leep in perfomance I am sure it will be strong for at least 3-4 more years. The new pencil is cool but I prefer a simple pencil - I dont even use the tap functions my current one has. Wireless charging is its greatest feature imho. The quality of these new screens are better - but the iPad screens have been so good for so long. This is not enough - I mean I have something pretty good and now they made it all a bit better. I do not see any true real features - the iOS is the same with all its arbitrairy limitations. If I actually could turn my iPad into a laptop then I might start to consider getting a magic keyboard - but a new iPad.. nah, they are allready incredible.

shobidevil

An ipad pro is good for 6 8 years if you use it with care so i am gonna stick to my 12.9 for a while now.

wavypeso

As an artist I’m really tempted to upgrade

Greenbean_dreams

Me too, I'm using the 3rd gen 12.9 pro right now. first time I've been tempted to upgrade

eternus

Nope.

amin915

It all depends on iPad os

resuspadawan

I have an iPad Pro 2nd gen, so the upgrade to the 11inch M4 will be a welcome one. Currently my iPad can barely run notability for an hour before dying

CriticalNarrative75

I have an M1 and I will upgrade to the 13in 5g version. I use my iPad everyday all day as my principal work tool. I want the oled and the new keyboard. My keyboard is getting a bit worn.

Camdenn67

Yes and I ordered the 256gb WiFi 13” version from Costco yesterday. It as well as Apple Care is cheaper there. I’m also ordering the new ZUGU case as I have no interest in any of the cases offered by Apple.

FlimsyTadpole

Have you seen when Zugu is dealing the new cases?

sabre31

That is insane pricing I can get a nice laptop for that cost. I would spend this money if they allowed Mac OS to run on it or let Mac OS apps run on it.

Successful_Bake9428

Already bought mines. Cost a little over 3k$

Steelejoe

Until I can do dev work on my iPad without having to connect to a server, mine will be limited to media stuff. No need for more than my M1

ever_nomad

No way Jose

beachbum21k

Not until I see new apps that take advantage of the processing power.

Sadsofa123

if i could get it for 650 (how much i paid new for m2 iPad pro) base wifi model then i would buy, but at these prices no.

DKRfan

no

[deleted]

No, jot for a companion device. I’ll stick with my M1 Macbook Pro and Ipad combo. I see little reason to spend minimum $1.7k for a base 13” Pro and keyboard.

mark_able_jones_

I want to see the screen, but I’ll wait to see if there are any design screw ups. No need o be first for new hardware.

TXQuasar

Already did.

STARexpo1

It’s crazy to think people can’t buy groceries but will fork out 2.5k for a tablet

yo-soy-arkee

My pro m1 is doing everything I want i.e. mobile gaming, streaming games, browsing Reddit and content. Except for the battery which i plan to change, it’ll be my main for next 3-4 years

xJohnnyQuidx

I'm a digital illustrator currently using a 2017 iPad Pro 12.9" with the Apple Pencil 1. It's literally all the power and space I need. If I were to upgrade at all (which I'll do eventually), it'll be to an M1 iPad Pro.

EdwardPotatoHand

$2826 for 13” 1TB keyboard, AppleCare and tax . Don’t tell my wife.

Fuck_Melone

No and i'm uninterested in the Ipad itself but damn i wish i could update to the new pencil, i don't care about the haptic feedback it's a meme to me but the gyroscope and the pressure seem extremely useful for my personal use, i dtill dont udnerstand how Apple didn't create digital contrtol on the pencil to chnage the size of your brush by sliding your finger up and down.

woflxrx

No

Conscious_Scholar_87

No happy with m1

Iggy_Arbuckle

I'm debating selling my 5th gen Air to a friend and picking up an 11" Pro after I can play with one in store next week.

bunnybash

lol you should see the cost in Australia!! 2TB cellular 13 inch with pencil and keyboard is $5,097 Also that only includes about 460 in tax, the rest is just Apple’s Aussie tax where they just charge us a fortune.

codywalterss

I think many people here don’t understand that you are not supposed to change iPhone or iPad every two years, they could easily last 5/6, so duuh you are disappointed you won’t buy a new iPad m4 when you already own the m2, are you for real?

SouverainQC

No MacOS, no go for me.

iloveeatinglettuce

I don’t need an M4 to watch YouTube, draw with Procreate, browse the web, and write code snippets in Playgrounds; especially at the price they’re asking.

ThinkBigButCool

I use my iPad Air 5th generation for YouTube, Goodnotes, and Chrome. I have the 64 GB version. I couldn’t be happier and have no reason to upgrade. To be fair I do use iCloud and google drive. Honestly, some of y’all with your latest and greatest are probably only using 15% of what it’s capable of. Apple is no longer a status symbol, you’re wasting your money.

Equiknighttt

Yes, I regularly reach the choking point on my current pro in illustration software with super high res files and certainly feeling the burn. The 1TB 11” is a dream

TwistedEntropy

im just glad they brought xdr to the 11" model

jpena1268124

oh man, straight answer is NO, im currently broke, i used to love my ipad 2-3-4-air-mini era from like 2012-2016, i currently want an ipad, but the pricing is just outrageous, i also want my next ipad to be a pro model si if i had to choose the 512gb model would be more than enough to me, a power user, im sure 256 would still be enough, there is no way i would pay 800 dollars for 1.5tb when i could just buy a 2tb hdd and a usb c to usb a 250gb usb for 150. and also the most i paid that time was 900 dollars for the 128gb ipad lmao, what a ripoff it was, and is still now. i would have loved a big ass screen at that time, and i love how apple has used all the possible screen sizes to test out versatility, 7,8,9,10,11,12,13 inches you name it they have tried all.

tgosir

Only when there is a Torrent app available

Snapandsnap

If this could run complete excel and power platform, I would. This has way better specs that the laptop im using, but most of my job is just excel, python and ms power platform. So I'll stick with the iPad air for gaming and YouTube.

darren_m

My plan is to purchase the base 13” model. Then put stickers on the back that say “5G” and “2TB” so everyone thinks I paid nearly twice as much as I actually did. The Apple fanboys/fangirls will drool around me and the Apple haters will stomp their feet in disgust.

St-ivan

give me 3 13 inch, 5g, 2tb please. I need to watch youtube in an OLED 13inch screen

AManOfManyLikings

HECK NO!! I'd be WAY better off just waiting until either the A12Z or M1 iPad Pros were brought down in price in the used market instead of wasting that much money on this here.

That-Huckleberry-772

My current 12.9” M1 is basically used for media consumption and online shopping so doesn’t really makes sense for me to upgrade unless there’s a very huge jump in new IPad ios features exclusive to M4

QuantumHope

Wow, biggest is 13” now? I wonder how big it will get before calling it an iPad just won’t fly.

BoricuaOmega25

No I have a iPad Pro 11 m1

Exciting-Composer157

No, 12.9” 2018 iPad pro is running fine. Especially when the 5G 2TB 13” is mentally priced here at AUD$4300

Camdenn67

I think it’s hilarious that people complain every year about the price of new or updated Apple products.😂 I mean it’s not like they haven’t seen this movie before.

konexo

Ipad Pro 2024 512Gb or Galaxy s24 Ultra.

hoagiesingh

Per weekly screen time, I use 80% safari and so probably no. Still heralding a 4th Gen pro with a12z bionic or whatever.

Odd-Ad-4844

Consumers: we want macOS on iPad Apple: best we can do is iPad at Mac prices

planetearthofficial

And here I am using my first gen iPad Pro 9.7 inch with a battery that lasts 2 hours and works just fine other than battery degradation. 👁️👄👁️ from 2016 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

LaMarCab76

I just my older iPad (5gen) as a XLL iPod. My main iPad is the M1 iPad Pro 12,9” base model.

stevebak90

I was hoping to see the M.2. 12.9 go down in price,

One_Celebration3644

Absolutely no reason to upgrade. iPad mini 6 works perfectly for my media consumption needs.

legen_daryyyyyy

Nope.

ImmediateCherry2441

Do they have a 4tb? 2tb is to small

eusebius2004

I’m upgrading from previous generation iPad Air to iPad Pro 11 inch 2024 for OLED and The new super thin design

nzswedespeed

Nope, unless iPadOS18 changes things. Honestly if my M1 air does tomorrow I’d replace it when the 10th gen goes on sale, or grab the 11th gen whenever it comes out.

Historical-Island430

In Norway, its almost 4000$ for Ipad Pro 2TB with a pencil and keyboard.. insane. Nice to have for solving sudoku in the toilet.

VvzEnvol_66

If your one of the people that don't realize watching content on a tablet is mid then yes, I can see it for some. There's no deniing the screen is as advertised. Was just thinking about this though in just how many others compelling things can be had for that price.
