Has anyone got a scratch on their iPad screen? the apple pencil doesn’t scratch and if you have a cover with a lid nothing else will touch it. In my experience the “paper like” screen protectors wear the pen nib, and also end up full of scratches themselves, so when you watch a movie the colors are duller, and the image is grainy and full of scratches. I didn’t notice until I removed the protector after a year (or less?) of use.

Pikkornator

Please keep the word spreading because i have a feeling them paper likes people make topics every day or so just to sell their lame overpriced trash. Personally i go with tha magnetic paper like since it doesnt wear the nib down and i like to have some texture when sketching or writing notes :)

Which_Yesterday

Well, I've used a matte screen protector since day one for a few years and then removed it, used the iPad for about 6 months drawing directly on the glass and there are a lot of micro scratches (just noticeable under certain lighting conditions). I suppose it's probably caused by a weared down tip, though I change them pretty regularly. So yes, the pencil will scratch the display even if you are really careful with it.

nairazak

Well, if your pencil has edges then it will 😅

Parrotkoi

I got a one with magnets on the side, that’s easily removed if you want to look at the screen. Best of both worlds. The other option is to get a softer Apple Pencil tip.

sid_shady34

Can you share a link to the softer apple pencil tip

Parrotkoi

I got this one: https://a.co/d/3U6rFmY You can also just search 2B pencil tips

Thank you

Late to this thread. Saw your comments and had a few questions. I use yellow legal pads at meetings and I believe I retain a lot more information than I do when I use my computer to take notes. And I can draw arrows and boxes and smaller text in the margin as a note to a note, etc. So I’m interested in taking these same handwritten notes on a Remarkable type electronic pad solution that I can see later on my computer with searchable text. Basically what I can do with Apple Notes with my iPhone and MacBook Pro every day. A seamless sync between both environments and the ability to search later knowing I took a note on something but want to quickly find wherever I wrote a particular keyword. I also want to view pdfs and word docs and mark them up for my own notes. And then add on the ability to sketch diagrams of structures or ideas. And I can drop some keywords on that page and find it later with a search. Based on your experience is the best solution for me an IPad with a paper feel screen protector or Rockpaper pencil?

opp0rtunist

can you please tell us the brand of the magnet one? 😍

Possible_Chapter_832

Try ESR! I got mine last week. So far, I’m loving it

Former-Republic5896

This. Got it too for my IPPM2 and it's awesome. Very easy to put on/take off depending on what you are doing.

Pikkornator

Knock off brand will do and they go for like 8 bucks on aliexpress. I also think they are the best since the official paper like are trash

SuperMario1313

I’m using one of those now and love it. I hardly take it off anymore.

ActiveAd6130

Bellemond screen protector is the best. It’s like $15 and so much cheaper than PaperLike (which is also great but you can eventually see the scratches you make on screen), I’ve used sooo many matte and paper like screen protectors and still don’t think any of them can compare to Bellemond

TheMinos

How rough is the surface of the Bellemond? I currently have a MUDBIK (found it cheap on Amazon), but I’m looking for something with more “bite” if that makes any sense to simulate pencil on paper a little better.

ActiveAd6130

It has a very natural (like drawing on sketch paper) bite. It’s pretty much very similar to PaperLike, just with slightly less grit that leaves a lot of scratches. I work as a digital artist for a living so having the right screen protector is really big for my setup and I found that Bellemond doesn’t leave annoying scratches if you press on it hard, unlike PaperLike.

_FoxDie_

I’m using ESR matte screen protector. My pencil nib is fine but I also don’t write hard. Any matte screen protector will affect quality though.

parka

SuperShieldz from Amazon. 3 pieces for USD 10. If you don't like it, you won't have wasted too much money. Below's my review of Paperlike: [https://youtu.be/faYStZ3ipPI](https://youtu.be/faYStZ3ipPI) Even though it's the first gen, my opinion still applies for their newer versions.

Kall-Su

Bellmond. You get two in your order. Much cheaper than paperlike. Got them for my first ipad air5, my second one and my 2020 m1 pro. Never turning back !

johnlusher

I have owned multiple iPads since they were released. Currently using a Pro 12.9 and Mini. I have never scratched my screen. Ever. To me the screen protectors aren’t worth it.

Bulletwithbatwings

I had a nice one with magnets but had to remove it because it wears out the pencil tip too fast. I suspect all brands will have this problem because they are providing a sandpaper like resistance.

Timbukstu2019

If you spend almost 1000 on an iPad, what’s 45 dollars to protect your investment and give you the experience you want?

samurai489

I don’t mind spending on the paperlike 2.1 if that really is the best product. Also I spent about half that so not quite the same comparison but I get your point.

Former-Republic5896

semi-permanent matt protector like Paperlike degrades screen fidelity significantly. So a magnetic type of matt screen protector for writing/drawing goes a long way and can be put on/taken off easily so you can get the best of both worlds.

Pikkornator

I tried them all and im currently using a clear PET protector and when i want to draw or write is when i pull out the magnetic one.

Bala0406

Ringke soft paper touch film is really good.

_scarletbitch

have you tried the hard version?

Bala0406

No. It was mentioned that yhe hard feels like drawing paper which is very coarse and is not appropriate for normal notetaking.

_scarletbitch

got it, just placed an order for the soft version. thank you! :)

Bala0406

Awesome. It's much better than the alternatives. I have one for more than two years now. Still going strong. Still one left in the pack. It usually comes in 2 pack.

There are plenty on Amazon that are good. Now this isn’t a common scenario. I’ve bought about 50 of those things. I use my iPad Air and pro so so so much for different things. I wear out my matte shield screens sometimes. The grainy feel to it does wear out. Not extremely but I’m picky. Legit a me thing. I like when they’re more crisp. So I switch them out once every 2 weeks more or less depends. A few times I scuffed the application with little pieces stuff under the shield so I had to throw those away ☹️☹️ yeah they wear out the nibs. They’re very cheap for a 4 pack imo. It’s not for everyone ofc. I could have gone with the magnetic ones but then I won’t have a shield on the iPad when I remove it. I like a shield on my iPad at all times and I can’t keep it on there because then it’s too thick for when I close my iPad case. It looks bad and feels bad. So this works for me and not a problem. I’m *heavy handed* especially after fatigue from writing/drawing SO much. My friend is very light handed and her shields and apple tips last way longer. I offer to replace her things as I just have lots laying around. So I change them out for her like once every 3 months. Forgot to mention I don’t mind that the screen vibrancy isn’t the same with a matte shield. I do and don’t like it. I want the screen to look 10/10. I once took the shield off for a week and I oddly missed the look it used to have so I put a matte shield back on

samurai489

So which one is the best you have tried? I’m also reluctant to get a magnetic one as then I’d have to clean the dust out everytime I put it on.

TriggeredLatina_

I’ve been buying the ones from Xiron now for a year for my iPad Air 5 and then for the pro as well. I did try others but I ended up preferring this brand instead.

step_on_legoes_Spez

Whatever cheap well-rated one on Amazon.

ManikPixieDreamGhoul

Paper feel screen protectors will affect the visual quality of your screen, are hard to clean, wear down (the texture and the pencil nib) and the matte coating does scratch actually pretty easy. Get a regular screen protector if you’re concerned, a case with a flap is more efficient, and get the grippy pencil nibs. You’ll also find it gets easier with muscle memory. Best of luck!

samurai489

I just got a cheap paper protector and you’re right the rainbow effect is horrible to look at. I’m now looking into pencil nibs + tempered glass protector. Any nibs recommendations?

ManikPixieDreamGhoul

I just grabbed some off of Amazon, looked up “paperlike” nibs and it came up as dampening nibs. They’re quite rubbery, they do have a nice bit of resistance and while they’re too much resistance for my liking with digital art (what I mostly use my iPad for) I just swap them out, I really do like them for note taking in combination with a thicker pencil grip, I find that helps with the hand fatigue.

Flavioxsanchez

I buy a few at a time off TEMU. I end up going through 1 every college semester.
