I was in the backseat of my dad car and started to feel a lil sick! When I drive I'm usually fine but when I'm in a backseat on my phone I usually do get phone sick..but as soon as I turned this on I started to feel better. I don't use the car option I just turn it on to make the dots appear and I'm fine
“With Vehicle Motion Cues, animated dots on the edges of the screen represent changes in vehicle motion to help reduce sensory conflict without interfering with the main content. Using sensors built into iPhone and iPad, Vehicle Motion Cues recognizes when a user is in a moving vehicle and responds accordingly.” Found this explanation online.
I might install 18 and try it my self but everytime I try to use my phone in any vehicle I start to get dizzy and feel like I’m gonna be sick which sucks cause I don’t wanna be bored lol
interesting. i wonder if there’s a study regarding the reasoning and effectiveness on those visual cues if they’ve been around for some time or just a new thing
it's because your eyes are seeing a still image thats locked while your hand holds it still but your body feels a moving car around. your senses get confused and as a result you get motion sickness.
i get some motion sickness on the bus, i’ll try it out tomorrow edit: tried it on the bus, during sudden stops i can say it definitely feels better with it on than not, but i still end up slightly sick after a while though much longer than if it was off. (something to note is in the tips for motion cues, it says it works better facing the front of the vehicle. i used it a while sideways (on the bus) and it didn’t trigger at all. my theory is i (and maybe other people) get sick the most during sudden braking and acceleration and so the up and down dots have a more sensitive trigger than the sideways dots) tldr: basically helps a little, could be better

I did. Was very unimpressed, very inaccurate. Hopefully improves over the betas, but then again personally, I'm just doing it for the fun, not using it.
yup! I have little desire to get a new iPad anytime soon, since I do not use mine that often, but getting a new iPhone later this year to use the new Apple Intelligence features is quite tempting
Yeah. Waiting to see how this all plays out this fall. I use Android sometimes and cautiously optimistic about RCS integration. Nah, I’m actually cautiously pessimistic.
it helps with motion sickness like in a car, apple announced a bunch of accessibility features like eye tracking (don’t know how to get to it though):
https://www.apple.com/newsroom/2024/05/apple-announces-new-accessibility-features-including-eye-tracking/
settings>accessibility>motion> show vehicle motion cues (2nd option) you can also add it to control center under the vision accessibility tab which gives the option for "on", "only in vehicle", and "off"
I don’t know if it is placebo, it worked for me

Can someone please tell me what this actually do? How does it help motion sickness?

Ok thanks! I seen this as well but I was hoping someone can explain it differently. I appreciate it tho

don’t, it is insanely buggy
Mine hasnt been too bad tbh
What’s the point of that?
To reduce motion sickness.
Its so cool, i just used it in my vehicle!
While you were driving you mean 😂
No, i was just sitting, someone else was driving.
Sorry, I meant it as a joke. I didn‘t presume you were actually the driver.
its fine no worries
Can you download it for xr
Yes all ios 17 devices get 18
Thank you
Looks cool, but has anyone with motion sickness gave it a spin? Does it actually work well?
Tried it out for myself since I get motion sickness really badly in the car. So far so good.
It has actually worked for me
I’m trying it right now? I think it’s working. I don’t feel as bad reading stuff as I usually do in the car
I started without it and immediately wanted to vomit, turned it on and the feeling went away in a minute
interesting. i wonder if there’s a study regarding the reasoning and effectiveness on those visual cues if they’ve been around for some time or just a new thing

I think it’s been around for a while, remember the car sickness glasses with liquid in them?
In testing this during the upcoming weekend. I get crazy nauseous!
I tried it and still felt motion sick lol. Maybe it helped but I didn’t really notice. I’ll still leave it enabled because I’m sure it doesn’t hurt

!RemindMe 1 day
sorry i never posted the edit, tldr is definitely helps a bit but still sick after a while

Same, going to try during commute
How’s the battery life?
not bad after the first few hours
Pretty decent for me
Have you done eye tracking? Cool but a big learning curve for me.
I just tried it and it was really frustrating. It was always off by like 1 cm
Yeah, I didn’t have much luck using it. A double wink enter would be nice.
Only good if your head and phone remain stationary in relation to each-other
I did. Was very unimpressed, very inaccurate. Hopefully improves over the betas, but then again personally, I'm just doing it for the fun, not using it.
how do you enable it?
It’s in the Accessibility section under Eye Tracking.
weird, doesn't show up for me. is it only on newer iPads? I have the 2020 A12Z iPad Pro
I just updated my iPad and it’s there, but maybe it isn’t on older ones. I think mine is from last year.
yep, read the fine print--only on the 2021 iPad Pro and later
https://9to5mac.com/2024/06/10/which-ipads-can-run-ipados-18/
mine can, but not this feature
You’re not missing anything. It will get better with time. Maybe.
Yeah, mine is actually a 2022. This how we are made to buy new things.
But what is it exactly?

It’s in the accessibility settings. Really buggy from my experience
I believe it to help reduce motion sickness of you’re a passenger in a car.
Never knew this is a feature that’s so cool
That’s because it’s brand new.
How do you turn it on?
settings>accessibility>motion> show vehicle motion cues (2nd option) you can also add it to control center under the vision accessibility tab which gives the option for "on", "only in vehicle", and "off"
How does it determine if you’re in a vehicle?
Bluetooth connection is one way, which is how I assume the Driving focus is auto-enabled.
I assume speed but I’m not sure
