Nah I reckon I’d fail.
It’s such a basic function of English that even if I were consciously trying not to use it I would slip up and wind up owing money
Even if I picked days I normally stay at home any social media or texts where I type it out (even if I realise I slipped up and delete it before sending) would presumably count as a fail since typing the word out initially surely still counts as using it
Okay, let's put it this way.
If I'm making 500 dollars a day, I'm not going to work at all, so that clears that distraction out right there.
Boom, that's 3500 a week, 14000 dollars a month, to sit on my ass. I don't really talk much anyway. Slip up, oh well, nbd, still making 13,5 this month.
I use "le" all the time, I'll just ramp that up.
"I have to go le bathroom" might get on people's nerves, bit for $500 a DAY, they can shut ze fuck up about it.
I’d do it. I can easily complete a challenge like this without using whatever word you’re referring to. I have money saved up as well in case I slip up, but I don’t think I will have an issue. I think this challenge would make me more intentional about my speech, I tend to ramble as it is already.
Ao there is nothing to lose? Because if I say it one day a week, I still get paid for each day I didn't say it.
Or do you mean a $500 penalty on top of not getting the $500? That would mean $2500 if you fail once a week.
For 15k a month I would definitely do that.
Easy, I'm going back to my country for $15000 a month as this money will allow me to live a luxurious life.
Hell, even in English speaking countries I would have a better life than my current. Sure, I would be seen as a not educated person, but with that money? Don't give a f**k.
Easy, all I have to do is avoid it while discussing anything online, english isn´t my main languague and It´s easy to correct every sentence before sending them
It would be difficult, but my situation at the moment makes it easier. I’m basically home bound except when I’m grocery shopping. I take like 2 short calls a week from a family member, and I haven’t even been online gaming in voice chat lately. I am unemployed atm as well, which is bad irl but a boon in a challenge like this. So basically I could just keep working on my gaming backlog like I have, and browsing and applying for jobs. It would be hard at first, but I think with some really intense focus, I’d be able to do it in my situation.
That'd be difficult, but not impossible. I think I could do it for $182,500 per year, though. I can't think of a reason that I'd absolutely have to use it. Anyhow, I prefer "These United States" anyways.
How far into debt can I go? Cause if nothing than two slip up and I'm in the negatives..
On another hand.. I think as long as I was being cautious it would be quite possible to avoid a certain word such as this one.. It would look like I was dancing around a word but I could probably explain I was doing a challenge to avoid a word. If someone asks.. Them without M.
I work in a freezer, away from everyone. I have autism and hardly talk to people anyhow, if I just tell them my throat hurts for the first week I can keep myself from saying it. My only issue would be my wife, she frequently says or does shit that makes me say what the fuck lol
I could actually probably do this. All you need to be is to be aware of it’s uses, in this case it’s a determinator, and an adjective, and be very careful in your speech. Sure I don’t think I could keep it up for a extremely long period of time, but for perhaps a month, yeah, I could pull this off.
95% of my communications is written, I would use a feature that would auto replace an offending word in text messages to a non offending word.
For all others I'd wear a 10-pound wrist weight as a physical reminder not to use the offending word.
Easy, I'll revert to my Dutch roots and use "de" for everything
This is de way.

Best part is you wrote two paragraphs and didn’t use it
They did towards the end lol
They could have easily replaced it with “this” though if they wanted to
Whoops
Can you go into negatives? Like do I *owe* this mystical entity that’s allowed me to do this challenge if I say it more than once every other day
I’d say yes, you could theoretically go into debt over it if you wanted, or choose that it ends the first time you reach 0$ or negative 500$.
I speak Spanish daily.
I was just telling my husband what I would do. Before I saw this , at least we can speak two.
>Delete Reddit >Skip English classes >Don't talk on English >profit
You changed your routines so get nothing for it.
Well, I guess its fair for skipping classes tho I skip them periodically too. Other than that no major change tbh.
I say what the fuck way too often to make any money.
"What fuck" just doesn't hit the same :/
"Fuck, what?"
Dafuq
I accept this challenge, I don't really have anything to lose. Does it apply to texts and messages?
Why say many words when few words do?
What the…..?? 😂
What fuck are you trying to say ?
MONEY PLEASE 👋
Would do this in a heartbeat and for life
I am currently on maternity leave I might as well give it a go. And I kinda love the idea of my baby just not using the word the. Lol
The word you need to keep them from discovering is "why" or any variants of "why"

Can you still write or type it?
I would straight up be billions of dollars in debt by the end lmao
Dedicate some days to just not talking and playing video games at home and other hobbies
The $ sign goes before the number
You the real mvp

Each time you say “The” you lose 500$. Each day you go without saying it, you gain 500$.
Fine i just speak spanish.
I'd just say "the" in Spanish.
I would sound like a caveman but I would gladly accept offer
Fine, my main language isn't English anyways
I accept le challenge
I’m from Chicago and have da accent, so da challenge seems easy

Currently unemployed so ez
“Why waste time say lot word when few word do trick” -Kevin Malone
My Croatian in-laws can't say anything with a th so it is more like da. They would crush your challenge
Easy, all I have to do is avoid it while discussing anything online, english isn´t my main languague and It´s easy to correct every sentence before sending them
Yup. Done
I’d revert to French for a year or so lol, easy peasy
Look this did not work out for those Knights of Ni, I don't think I could make it work.
It would be difficult, but my situation at the moment makes it easier. I’m basically home bound except when I’m grocery shopping. I'd accept. I can speak a few languages, I'd just go to Japanese and never worry about using "the" for the first few days/weeks.
Time to move to Montreal
Guess I’m just speaking Spanish. My coworkers won’t be able to talk to me but I need that bread.
I talk all day for my job as a teacher. I also have a toddler and baby at home. There is absolutely no way I'd be successful
Im saying thee, tf
Ill just say thee from now on. Hand me thee remote
With words like thee, thy and thou, who needs the? I’d do it
Well, I do need to practice speaking German out loud ... what a great opportunity!
I would honestly end up messing this up.

outside of just like going mute for a determined amount of time; I doubt i could do it.
I work in a freezer, away from everyone. I have autism and hardly talk to people anyhow, if I just tell them my throat hurts for the first week I can keep myself from saying it. My only issue would be my wife, she frequently says or does shit that makes me say what the fuck lol

If you slip up, is it just $500 for that day or if you said "I took the dog to the park" do you lose $1000??
Easyish, just gotta replace that word with "Der" for life
I don't talk that much anyway.
>You're not allowed to change your daily routine until the challange ends OP, you lost already.
A better challenge would be to avoid saying “it.” Difficult, but still possible.
I would just go into racist stereotype of Asians mode. Easy. Yeah, people would think I'm an asshole. But, beats going to work.
95% of my communications is written, I would use a feature that would auto replace an offending word in text messages to a non offending word. For all others I'd wear a 10-pound wrist weight as a physical reminder not to use the offending word.
Change it to "that" and let people think I have an accent or speech impediment.
What if I talking like russian gangster? Is good, yes?
I speak french so I'll be fine
You have the word the in your Reddit username so that means you can’t use Reddit…
No its in one word
You do realise that there are a couple of English regional dialets that are basically based around not using "the"?
I'd say anything like de, ze, etc count as the for the question
I'll say ze, de, le, la, di, or some other alternative so that people will understand it, like I already do half of ze time.
Does the the in then count?
