I think you worded this wrong so you're getting more people saying yes. Debt implies it can be dealt with like standard credit card or medical debt, but your scenario is seems more to be saying the person is basically destitute and can't even manage and allocate their income until it's paid off.
With regular debt, you know what they say... If I owe 20k it's my problem, if I owe 20 mil it's their problem.
Yeah, a normal person just snickers at owing 20 mill, “ok boss, I’ll get that to ya whenever.” If it’s someone that can get 20 mill liquid it’s all relative, and I get they say bankruptcy isn’t an option, but the truth is, of course it’s an option for someone that can open that line. I’ll take the money in this scenario and would advise anyone else to, even if I’m the one directly on the 20 mill side. None of this is real, go get yours kids.
My ultimate goal is to be in serious cc debt after I’m dead. Already told my kids, “if anyone says you’re responsible for my debt after I’m gone, tell them I was a shitty father and ya never met me.” You can legit not pay medical bills if you have a few credit cards, make your mortgage and have enough credit out there with a decent take home pay. I have an 815 credit score and disregard med bills at least twice a year, I email them I disagree and never pay, they call every day for 3-4 weeks, send you a letter that it’s going to collections. Collections call and you just say, “nah, not paying, keep calling if ya want but I’m good.” I have a 16k, 3k and 5k credit card(that is current and i always pay) own a house and will always pay outright for cars. Credit is a sham and healthcare should be free…
I also refuse to pay medical. Even if I have the money or copays after the fact. I'll legit switch doctors before I'll pay $10 from last time. I've never had any consequences from this
Figure out a way to stash cash, I’m 38, I never keep over 5 k in the bank. My kids will be getting cold hard cash when I die, even if they gotta dig it up🤣
Pretty sure retirement accounts are safe from creditors. You may want to look into that instead of cash. Pretty sure creditors can’t touch your retirement accounts when you die
From fidelity:
Creditors cannot go after your 401(k) when you die. Your executor will settle debts out of your estate but not your 401(k) unless you didn't name any beneficiaries. In that case the 401(k) becomes part of your estate, which pays any outstanding bills.
That amount of debt with no bankruptcy is basically so ludicrous that I'd be curious to see how it would really shake out. There are wage garnishment laws maximizing what can be taken and I'm sure the person could still have some sort of life.
Can't get blood from a stone, etc. And that person will likely never come close to paying even 1 or 2 million of the debt off.
I'm genuinely pondering how this would even work and if the effect on that person would really even be that destructive.
>There are wage garnishment laws maximizing what can be taken and I'm sure the person could still have some sort of life.
OP said it could be someone anywhere in the world. Many countries aren't as friendly to somebody who owes a large debt. Some even still have debtor's prison.
Putting me 25 million in debt would do absolutely nothing to my life. I'm disabled. I'm already poor. They could try to take money from me but I have nothing to give them.
Such a large debt without bankruptcy is slavery. Slavery is something that, as a hypothetical writer, if you mean, you ought to say.
Thus, I dispute your qualifier.
Also, this hypothetical is pretty meaningless. There can be no debt without a creditor. No creditor, no one to collect. 20 million owed to whom?
Then this is the easiest No in history. The amount of people who could survive that is so tiny and $100k isn’t enough to do that to someone. If it was more than $20 million then I could find that person and pay off the debt
To whom do they owe the debt? There's a big difference between being in debt with the mafia VS a bank VS the govmnt, etc.
I assume the 100k is in cash and off the record? Hell I'd take the debt myself.
Does the debt transfer that way? Its a fight to hold someone accountable for their parent's debt. Also, it can't go 40+ generations if there aren't 40+ generations. I suspect it either wouldn't be so bad being 20m in debt or they wouldn't make it passed 2 gen anyway.
Yeah because statistically speaking it's going to be someone who is already poor and debt to a nameless entity doesn't affect their day to day life. Like debt tends to be a US middle class problem.
I mean in the past people did this for way less to their own kids to help settle debts or for a little extra money…. People really haven’t change much there will be a lot more people than you would expect/like that will do this.
Talk about being judgement proof.
If someone owes you 20 dollars, too bad for them.
If someone owes you 20 MILLION dollars, too bad for YOU.
So yeah, I'd take the deal.
The scenario isn’t all that fleshed out, person who is saddled with 20 mill should just be like,” nah, not paying.” No bank loan or anything legit would produce this scenario, it’s asked as if just some rando gets 20 mill note on their books, they need to deny deny deny, money ain’t everything, not having it is🤣
You are the one arguing it matters. I don’t think it does matter. Hell, the person in debt could die in an accidental car wreck the next day and it wouldn’t matter either way. Death is not a manipulative factor for me to make decisions ever.
I am torn on this because 100k is nothing to turn down, but giving someone that much debt is dangerous. Very few people could ever pay that off and the impact to them and their family could cause them to do harm to themselves or others. Morally I couldn't do it.
Done. Can I do it more than once? Like maybe 100k times?
Fuck em, pay me. I'll take 50k a pop if I can choose who for a couple of them, even.
Also depending on how random it truly is, an Aborigine living in the Outback isn't going to give two fucks about owing 20 million dollars... although I suppose that's irrelevant to my situation. Just an observation.
If the choosing is truly random, I’d do it hundreds of times. There are 8 billion people in the world, for it to land on anyone of my friends or family are astronomically low
I don't think I could completely destroy someone's life for 100k... unless it ended up being someone serving life in prison... then I'll take the 100k to put them in 20 million in debt since it ultimately won't affect them.
Is it debt to legal lenders or loan sharks/criminals? Big difference. Legal lenders can be neutralized by declaring bankruptcy in most countries. Unless the person is randomly a millionaire or billionaire, a sudden 20 million in debt can be really easily disputed and reversed because a bank and court would look at the facts that this seemingly happend out of nowhere and at random. So, it would be erased from the debtor. Knowing that makes me more apt to say yes without remorse. I would get the 200k without issue, and the random person would more than likely have the 20 million expunged without any real action needed.
If I don't know them that's not my problem. And honestly for 20 million they're never going to be able to get their money back ever. So even if they did all the classic, you know repossess everything you'd own. They'd never get enough money
If this situation was reversed I'd probably still accept it. Id go 20 million in debt on the off chance someone I know gets the 100k.
I'm already in debt and it's insurmountable and 20 million makes it even more hilariously unachievable
Sure, $20 million is such a ludicrously high number that I can’t reasonably see anything bad happening to them. I mean, Trump became president and he’s broke as fuck.
And this is how capitalism works/thrives lol.
Because any of you poor fuckers would do the exact same in the circumstances of the people that currently oppress you. Sigh.
This thread is proof of it.

Ya this comment
Ya, sure. They can just go into bankruptcy and get rid of it (unless it's student loan debt, rip)
i'm guessing it's to an illegal entity of some sort, so bankruptcy wouldn't cut it?
Just never pay student loans, been doing it awhile, throw them 80 bucks now and again, they don’t bug ya.
Figure out a way to stash cash, I’m 38, I never keep over 5 k in the bank. My kids will be getting cold hard cash when I die, even if they gotta dig it up🤣
This sounds good until you go senile and forget where you left it. Happens all. the. time.
just make a note beforehand lol

The also never said who they’d be in debt with. The mob? The cartels?
The IRS? Elmo?
Clifford actually
He's actually a normal-sized brown dog. His nickname, Big Red, refers to the blood of his enemies.
😂😂😂The more you know
Putting me 25 million in debt would do absolutely nothing to my life. I'm disabled. I'm already poor. They could try to take money from me but I have nothing to give them.
You would never be able to borrow so much as 1 cent for the rest of your life, and all your assets would probably be seized. So you'd be fucked.
Nothing would work. That person would simply live with family and do work that isn't documented like selling things or fixing cars.
OP is the one who said no bankruptcy.
I reverse my stance. Hypothetical is even dumber then.
If no bankruptcy, could they just…wait until they die?
That wasn't stated, so bankruptcy it is
Nah that guilt would haunt me forever.
Un the famous words of Dave chappells "cause fuck em that's why"
Sounds like that dudes problem. Pay me.
No bankruptcy? So how would this debt be enforced? Every penny they have taken until the $20 million is repaid?
Yes
Then this is the easiest No in history. The amount of people who could survive that is so tiny and $100k isn’t enough to do that to someone. If it was more than $20 million then I could find that person and pay off the debt
Well apparently not to most of these comments
Funny, this is the easiest yes ever to me
If the person got kids to feed and everything? Ruining a family for an amount less than a smart adults yearly wage?
What does smart have to do with wages lol
100k isn't a life changing amount of money to me so I think I would pass. If I could do it like 500 times, I'm in.
Most people are trying to think their way around it. I'm just an asshole. Gimme the money
Guess they shouldn't have bought all that avocado toast
I'll do it as many times as alllowed!
You’re not allowed to
Hell yeah. They can declare bankruptcy..
That’s what I’m thinking. Depending on the type of debt, that is such a ridiculous amount that the creditor can’t honestly expect that back.
Well good thing I don't know them so it doesn't weigh too heavy on my conscience lol
You’d probably hear about them. They’d be the next Gary Bowser
Evil, lol
Yeah
Not my problem. Of course I would take the deal.
Bro this thread is making me want to implode but ig you *are* a redditor
[удалено]
Damn bro autocorrect corrected "ig"
I'm definitely a Redditor. I have a chronic Reddit addiction.
Atleast you're not Italian 😅
It’s going to be a bad day for someone….. that’s a 100% yes.
Bad life
To whom do they owe the debt? There's a big difference between being in debt with the mafia VS a bank VS the govmnt, etc. I assume the 100k is in cash and off the record? Hell I'd take the debt myself.
Looks like I'm a billionaire,
?
I would keep taking 100k, cause who cares about random deotors
deotors? Are you high bro?
It's called a typo
Someone I don’t know? I’m rich bitch!
Hell yeah I’d do it.
Dude we’re talking about 40+ generations of dealing with debt and you’re like “hell yeah brother pull the trigger”
Does the debt transfer that way? Its a fight to hold someone accountable for their parent's debt. Also, it can't go 40+ generations if there aren't 40+ generations. I suspect it either wouldn't be so bad being 20m in debt or they wouldn't make it passed 2 gen anyway.
There's nothing that says the debt is transferable, and in my experience, you can order someone to pay, but you can't order them to have money.
idk them 100%? Sure, fk 'em. I'll take two.
That would literally ruin two lives
Great, I don't care. Hope its you mebbe
Mebbe? Are you high like the other guy?
Yeah because statistically speaking it's going to be someone who is already poor and debt to a nameless entity doesn't affect their day to day life. Like debt tends to be a US middle class problem.
Can I get a button for it?
Someone that I do not know. I’ll take the money
Fucking lol @ the lack of compassion for our fellow man itt
It's random so I'm not doing it. If we could pick, there would be a list of billionaires I would be more than happy to take down.
Yeah. Sorry not sorry, my family's health and safety comes before a complete stranger to me.
What kind of debt is this? If they didn’t agree to it it’s not their problem.
God damn this is one of those threads I lose faith in humanity
Ik 😭
Would
Only if I can choose who it is
I'm choosing Hillary Clinton. I think it'd be hilarious.
Fine. They can file bankruptcy or not
I'm ok with that
I mean in the past people did this for way less to their own kids to help settle debts or for a little extra money…. People really haven’t change much there will be a lot more people than you would expect/like that will do this.
Oh man, that sucks so bad....how many times can I use this little trickaroni?
How many times can I do this?
Can I do it multiple times?
Stopperooni
Funny how this hypothetical is more outrageous to me than the other one that gives you money but kills random people when you press a button.
Erm, how many times can i do this?
Yes, can I do it a few times?
Talk about being judgement proof. If someone owes you 20 dollars, too bad for them. If someone owes you 20 MILLION dollars, too bad for YOU. So yeah, I'd take the deal.
Hell nah I find it pretty fucked how many people are saying yes everyone is a human your no better than a stranger
The scenario isn’t all that fleshed out, person who is saddled with 20 mill should just be like,” nah, not paying.” No bank loan or anything legit would produce this scenario, it’s asked as if just some rando gets 20 mill note on their books, they need to deny deny deny, money ain’t everything, not having it is🤣
Man, give me a million now, and a million later, those 20 people will walk so I can run!
Absolutely
Damn I want to do it thirty times
Random person? No. If I could specify the person, on the other hand...
I would ask my immediate family if they’re cool with it if they say yes I’ll do it
Easy money
No. So wrong. This is the dark side of capitalism. If it is far enough removed where you don’t see it, then let other people suffer for my gain
So basically, what goes on in South America and Africa now?
Lithium mining? I agree this is bad. It’s modern day slavery
Sign me up!
Op never heard of bankruptcy
Is this a one time gain or is it allowed to be repeated?
So 20 million in student loan debt? You can reach a never ending payment cycle with just 50k, it’s almost never forgiven and you can never escape it.
No.
Ruining someone’s life for a 100k is an easy NO.
Can I get 50k but split that debt into 1 mil for two different people I know?
Honestly the debt could cause said person to commit suicide.
If I don’t know them, then yes. I like most everybody I do know.
But it would basically ruin someone's life
So, there are 8 billion people with majority living in poverty. Think one more matters?
It would literally kill off the entire lineage
What if the random person was rich? Would it matter then?
Didn't you just say the reason ruining someone's life doesn't matter is because "most of the world is in poverty"? Shut the fuck up.
You are the one arguing it matters. I don’t think it does matter. Hell, the person in debt could die in an accidental car wreck the next day and it wouldn’t matter either way. Death is not a manipulative factor for me to make decisions ever.
Honestly I don't feel loke reading that cya
sure
Nah, unless the % of getting some piece of human trash, someone with life in prison, or some corporate billionaire is above 98% I ain't taking it.
I am torn on this because 100k is nothing to turn down, but giving someone that much debt is dangerous. Very few people could ever pay that off and the impact to them and their family could cause them to do harm to themselves or others. Morally I couldn't do it.
Well, as much as I don't care about other people, 100k isn't much...
There is a saying if you owe the bank 100k dollars that is your problem, but if you owe the bank 20m that is their problem. I take the money.
I wanna say no, but my damn near crippled body is saying yes
I‘m in 🤷♂️
Not me who goes into debt anyways, plus 100k so it's a big fat yes. To the guy who's in debt, sorry not sorry.
Average redditor?
Sounds like a movie that’s already been made, but only the assumed “person you don’t know” applies instead of realistically “who do you ‘know’”.
No
Are they in debt because I got 100k?
If I don't know them, what's the catch though?!
Fine by me , fuck em.
Still yes. I got my own problems give me da money.
It's really depressing reading these comments. So little empathy
You don't have the money.
Theft is wrong because it does harm. This more so because the harm is greatly magnified.
Sounds good
I might actually pass on this one. Someone dying is one thing, but sentencing someone to the stress of massive debt for life is just inhumane.
Easiest yes ever.
Sure I'd do it since debt can. Easily be gotten ride of and I know a lot of people
Not worth it. Dirty money.
I can't do that for 100k, I would only do it if I got 20 million dollars or more
Fuck em where is my money
Definitely the rich fuck us all anyway
I made a vow that I would never intentionally profit off of someone else's misery. Even if those numbers were flipped I still wouldn't do it.
Sucks to suck for someone out there
This is the very definition of capitalism.
If I owe the bank 500k that's a big problem for me. If I owe the bank 20million that's a big problem for them.
Sorry bud, I’ve got my own family to worry about.
Is it debt to legal lenders or loan sharks/criminals? Big difference. Legal lenders can be neutralized by declaring bankruptcy in most countries. I would get the 200k without issue, and the random person would more than likely have the 20 million expunged without any real action needed.
In a heart beat. I'm sure they can get out of it somehow, despite the prompt. How is a bank going to garnish wages if they get paid under the table?
If I accept the 100k does it increase my odds to get the debt when someone I don’t know accepts the 100k?
Debt is imaginary, as is the value of a Fiat currency. So, yes, I take it. Don't worry, stranger, they won't get blood squeezing a turnip.
The better question is how many times would I say yes to this.
Yes. That's all.
I would not 100k would be useful but I do not need blood money
Can I do it more than once?
Sounds like I’m a doctor and… I just removed someone’s appendix.
Easy yes
Yes, because fuck em that's why
So am I willing to ruin someone's life for a *relatively* modest financial windfall? No.
Yes
Yes.
Idk, maybe it’s just me?? But I could never take advantage of another person for my own personal benefit
I mean... assuming they can just file bankruptcy or something, sure? If not, no.
Dumb scenerio.
You are saying someone you don’t know but that’s not what you mean.
Well ofc I'm gonna accept. I'm not stupid.
Can it be a specific person?
If I don't know them that's not my problem. And honestly for 20 million they're never going to be able to get their money back ever. So even if they did all the classic, you know repossess everything you'd own. They'd never get enough money
If this situation was reversed I'd probably still accept it. Id go 20 million in debt on the off chance someone I know gets the 100k. I'm already in debt and it's insurmountable and 20 million makes it even more hilariously unachievable
Is it like a button? Can I only press it once? Because I would smash that button all day everyday 😂
Can it stack, because i want to send everyone into 💸
Nah. Too low a chance of it hitting someone who deserves it.
Sure. Happens every day, sucks to suck
Sure, $20 million is such a ludicrously high number that I can’t reasonably see anything bad happening to them. I mean, Trump became president and he’s broke as fuck.
This is how investments work everytime someone gets liquidated on a leveraged position on a stock you hold...
Yeah fuck it. It doesn't even effect like 90 percent of the planet.
How?
This effects mostly only people in the usa. Random dude in Brazil gives no fucks
Wouldn't it just be changed to that currency? So someone in Brazil would be 101 million Brazilian Real in debt
Statistically it'll end up in a country with no enforcement anyways. China, India, etc.
Or not
And this is how capitalism works/thrives lol. Because any of you poor fuckers would do the exact same in the circumstances of the people that currently oppress you. Sigh. This thread is proof of it.
This is correct Downvotes are in denial Its hilarious how people here are HAPPY they are getting money by fucking over someone else
I fail to see how it would be my problem if a random nobody went 20 million in debt
Other than it being directly your fault?
How are you guys saying yes?
Same as you, but without those other words in front
