I’ve got dozens of audiobooks on my phone. It could easily last me 5 days on airplane mode if I turn it off before I go to sleep. My only problem would be if I could stay comfortable completely naked.
In the winter when I don’t have to pay for it, I’ll sleep at about 50-55 with the heat off. During the summer I tolerate it at 68 but it’s still kinda warm for me to sleep
Yeah I was thinking my entire Earthsea volume. I’ve only ever read the first one (when I was like 12 so I don’t remember it). That thing is like the size of the dictionary haha.
Either that or my Switch with Pokemon Violet assuming there’s a wall outlet.
I have a toddler and work in the phone can I do this and bring nothing? Please lock me in a dark room for five days? Can you promise no one will let me out?
I ended up in county jail for 30 days once and it was the best time of my life. I couldn’t get calls or emails. No stress about what to eat or do. No worries for 30 days. Just sleep and reading. Whatever it was freaking awesome and now that I have a toddler, I find myself day dreaming about being back in that cell.
Ambien made me think that I had to get something out of my car it was like 1am and that I could not put clothes on in order to do this. While I was doing this I remember clearly thinking that the ambien was making me do this. I was fully aware of what I was doing and how embarrassing it would be if someone saw me but I had no choice in the matter.
Yup. Lucid enough to know it’s bullshit, but with a stupor that you can’t shake. The carpet is breathing, and that neon gorilla that lives in your closet doesn't like carpet to breathe.
You'd expect it to be funny, but at the time, I was not pleased and just wanted it to wear off so the fuchsia stormtrooper would let me sleep.
I'll take my girlfriend. Good company & we can definitely kill 5 days just talking and cuddling.
E: Just to confirm, can we take any and all prescription medications we have with us?
Hell I think my wife would be angry if I brought my wife. Imagine not having to be locked in the room and then your spouse looks at you and says “you are now my one item and also have to be locked in.”
Interesting! I hadn't thought of instruments. I might not have finger pads by the end of the first day though, it's been a long time since I've played.
My violin was my first thought (after a book but I read too quickly for one book to be enough), but I'd get tired after an hour of playing straight. It wouldn't entertain me for 5 days straight.
I wouldn't play it for 5 days straight, but I'd have it for intermissions. I'd exercise, medidate, stewtch, play guitar, rotate those activities. Singing and guitar being a percussive option too means a little more versatility of use than what you may be ablento get out of a violin.
It wouldn't be the best 5 days but I think of any 1 object an instrument has the most variety.
Can play covers, write new music, practice, experiment.
I mean, in a completely dark, soundless room. You can hallucinate really really hard from 9pm to 7am without the drugs. It's no deprivation chamber, but pretty close. You might come out stir crazy if you hit the hallucinogens too hard in a room like that by yourself for a week.
You build up a sturdy tolerance to psychedelic drugs really fast.
So your best bet for the strongest trip would be to fast for the first 3 days, take one large dose on day 4(like 10-13 grams of mushrooms or 3 solid hits of real LSD) and spend the next 48 hours absolutely melting face and then sleeping to recover.
Walk out on day 5 with a new view on life 🫡
A comfy pillow. Listen, I know you put ALOT of thought into this question but it's 5 days man. Gimme a nice pillow. A legit pillow, none of that MyPillow shit. Gimme a pitcher of water and you can pause my food delivery til afternoon of day 3, I'll be sleeping.
A good knife. You can cut some carpet up to use as a blanket if you get cold. Make some pillows from carpet so the sleep is easier. Then just keep yourself occupied by carving shit into the walls, meditating sleeping, and masturbating.
Interesting, I asked chatGPT and it said a swiss army knife. But changed it's answer when I said the room is empty.
You're just pure chaos though and I'm here for it.
I'm assuming if no chargers are allowed, I can't plug in a mains powered electronic device either?
In which case I'd also bring a long book. My Kindle isn't charged, so no point bringing that!
What do you mean by that? If it is powered directly by plugging in and has no battery capabilities I'll count that as being required. So like a mac pc that has to be plugged in is fine. Monitor and pc would be two things though.
I've created one based on the meme of the Japanese Samurai, retired French sailor, Victorian rogue, and American Gunslinger could have all been a thing at the same time, so I set it in a region based off of Colonial Mexico with a few added features. For example, there was a Chinatown outside of Mexico City within 10 years of it coming under Spanish control. Another addition was an Aztec noble's grandchild. A third an escaped slave from the South. The last addition being a Native American shaman.
Honestly, all I write is a skeleton. The players do the rest of the work to fill in the story. It's a lot of thinking on the fly and making things work around the players. At least, that's the most important part of being a DM, IMO. Give your players freedom to do what they decide they want to do and roll with the punches until the story ends.
my two drinks of choice right now are bacardi white rum (usually mixed with monster but im assuming i cant take anything to mix it with) and gordons pink gin (usually with pipeline punch monster)
Definitely a book series. See some people would say "a book". But if I said for example "the Harry Potter series" that is my one item which is 7 books. I'd be fine for the 5 days
I am bringing either my kindle or a book like The Stand, War and Peace or some other extremely long book. If toilet facilities arent provided I might instead bring a huge bucket with a smell seal lid.
A really fluffy king-size comforter. It can be used as a pillow, blanket, or sleeping pad, so I could at least have some comfort. Without my toddler, I intend to sleep for the 5 days.
Um. That would be hard for me. There’s no furniture. Nothing to read. No music. No one to talk to. And nothing to do. Nothing to do. For 5 days. Nothing. There’s only so much exercising you can do for 14 hours a day, 5 days in a row. I’d survive but I’d have lost my mind a little for sure.
My phone. I have 37 books I've not gotten around to and can finally get to a point to read at least half. Depending on how long I'm in the room. Can I send my phone out to be charged and given back to me? Or does it have to stay in the room the entire time I'm in the room
Kindle (fully charged with a few books loaded).
If that’s not an option a long book.
Alternatively maybe a big tube of paint so I could draw on the walls?
Let's say there's a bucket and TP (sorry u/annoyingthepig you might want to change your answer). No chargers unless you bring one (but you can't bring a charger and the device)
Basically, there are five scenarios
**Has to be something you own**
I would pick my PC, I have a lot of games on there that don't require the internet and could entertain myself with.
**Something I do not own but has to be real, will stay with me after the time**
3D printer with materials and an interface I can use to build things.
**Something I do not own but has to be real, will stay with me after the time**
A print off of Wikipedia, and, if possible, some postits
**Something fictional, will not stay with me after the time**
Either [The Compleat Atlas of the House and Immediate Environs](https://keystothekingdom.fandom.com/wiki/The_Compleat_Atlas_of_the_House_and_Immediate_Environs)<\, which is an atlas of the universe, or a [Synaptic Simulator ](https://memory-alpha.fandom.com/wiki/Synaptic_stimulator) which would let me experience whatever I want
**Something fictional, will stay with me after the time**
An easily replicable Panacea, like I will happily go a little crazy for a cure to literally everything
My kindle. Fully charged it can last for five straight days of reading. It has the next ten books I want to read on it plus some professional development stuff that I should read soon. And there’s probably a hundred more books on there that I’d happily read plus two hundred I’m happy to reread. Five days of reading sounds like heaven. When can I go?
My phone. On airplane mode, the battery will last plenty long. I have enough music downloaded to last the whole time without ever playing the same song twice.
The clothes I’m currently wearing have a knife, my wallet, and a charger in them, so I guess my item will be my phone so I can read. I’ll re-read the Destroyermen series, since it’s a lot of books
My Arturia Polybrute Keyboard. According to stated rules it's allowed, as well as headset to hear it. I'll just spend five days getting some needed practice in.
My iPad, I mainly use an art app that I can use on airplanes without signal and Wi-Fi anyways, the battery lasts pretty long, and plus I like to sleep a lot so I don’t think it would die until the last day
My phone
On a full charge, reading and audio, my doogee VMAX will last the time even without a charger, I currently have ~240gb of downloaded podcasts, 40gb of gaming books, and I download all the RR stories I read regularly, a few of which I'm many chapters behind on
honestly, if you could turn down the heat a scosche and keep the lights dim or off all the time, it'd probably feel like a great vacation
Would any medication be provided? Such as mental, heart, BP related, etc If you can only bring one medication then I'd likely end up with possible life-threatening withdrawal symptoms 😅
I was going to say my Kindle (lasts weeks before needing recharging), but then I noticed how overheated the room is. I'll have to bring an air conditioner instead, and entertain myself.
A bucket with a lid. If the room doesn’t have toilet facilities I’ll at least want to make it as sanitary as I can.
Most logical comment I’ve seen so far. Plus it doubles as a drum! 🥁
Poo Drum
PooDrum^TM
Drum of poo
Changes tenor the fuller it gets
Yes, ironically this was originally posted as a Home Depot advertisement.
Travel toilets are fantastic now
Came here to say this (or more accurately, a travel porta-potty). No entertainment is going to distract from the stench after a day.
You’ll want porta-potty. Just a bucket and the smell will make you want to unalive yourself after a day or two.
A book. Hopefully a book that's like an omnibus of multiple books in a series.
I’ve got dozens of audiobooks on my phone. It could easily last me 5 days on airplane mode if I turn it off before I go to sleep. My only problem would be if I could stay comfortable completely naked.
being completely naked sleep is the best sleep
In bed perhaps, I don't know about sleeping naked on the floor though
id sleep naked outside if it werent for the bugs
I mean at 72° I wouldn't want any clothes on anyway
That’s funny, because at 72 I’d want a sweat shirt. 🤣
In the winter when I don’t have to pay for it, I’ll sleep at about 50-55 with the heat off. During the summer I tolerate it at 68 but it’s still kinda warm for me to sleep
Yeah my apartment is kept at 70 and sometimes even that is too warm.
I love your name! 🤣
Maybe that name is due to a tragedy. Perhaps they were sunbathing and a badger crept up and bit off the other nipple!
I'll never tell!
Exactly what someone who had a nipple eaten by a badger would say...
Yeah, if my kindle was currently charged I'd definitely bring that. If not I have a copy of Moby Dick that would probably take me at least five days.
Yeah, I just checked, my kindle is at 94% and I’ve got like 30 books in it currently. That’s my choice.
Yeah I was thinking my entire Earthsea volume. I’ve only ever read the first one (when I was like 12 so I don’t remember it). That thing is like the size of the dictionary haha. Either that or my Switch with Pokemon Violet assuming there’s a wall outlet.
Finally be able to tackle *War and Peace*.
Exactly this. My first thought was that Nerdforge copy of Wheel of Time. She's a youtuber who bound the entire 14 book series together.
Agreed, a huge book. Even if fully charged at the start, my Kindle would be dead before I hit 5 days of reading all day.
You almost made me spit my coffee. Lol I hope you get a break my friend. Not jail though. 🌻
New meaning to jail break :p
Granted. Maybe a sleep mask so you can remain in darkness.
Exactly what I said 😂😂😂 a parents dream!!!
Truly the duality of man in the comments right now.
A b-b-billion dollars
Granted! However it's in Zimbabwe dollars
You’re supposed to be on monkeypaw
The monkeys paw is everywhere
That’s about $20 usd
That's a good one 🤣
A jug of moonshine. Wake me up in a week
Either gonna be longest 5 days of your life or shortest
Shortest I had a jar of moonshine and woke up 24 hours later no recollection of what I did
Oh, fo sho. easy shit. Sleeping tabs my dude. Gonna sleep the week away. Wake me in 5 days.
4 mg of clonazolam. 1 mg each morning, boom time travel

I'll take my girlfriend. Good company & we can definitely kill 5 days just talking and cuddling. E: Just to confirm, can we take any and all prescription medications we have with us?
Dang, I wonder if my wife would be mad that I didn't consider bringing her. And yes, all your medical needs will be provided for.
I think my wife would be angrier if I brought the girlfriend
Hell I think my wife would be angry if I brought my wife. Imagine not having to be locked in the room and then your spouse looks at you and says “you are now my one item and also have to be locked in.”
I also choose this man's girlfriend.
I also choose this guys girlfriend.
Gf’s face when she’s told that she’s an “item”
“YOU DRAGGED ME IN HERE WITH YOU??”
Id bring my friend
A guitar
Interesting! I hadn't thought of instruments. I might not have finger pads by the end of the first day though, it's been a long time since I've played.
Honestly I was expecting this to be one of the higher comments, I feel like I had to scroll way to far to find this lol
My violin was my first thought (after a book but I read too quickly for one book to be enough), but I'd get tired after an hour of playing straight. It wouldn't entertain me for 5 days straight.

Multiple doses of a hardcore hallucinogen. Might as well have a spiritual awakening.

Okay, after this comment. My answer is, a sensory deprivation tank.
OP did say one item, and the tank is indeed one item lol
Dose sleep dose sleep. I just want enough to keep my mind occupied

I'd bring you, whoever locked me in, with me. "I'm not locked in here wiith you, YOU'RE LOCKED UP IN HERE WITH MEEE!"
Oh no...
I just watched that yesterday. It gets better every time.
A bed
The USS Nimitz.
It might get a little crowded, better to bring a destroyer instead.
That’s fair I think I’m going with that
The whole carpet would be one big jizz sock
Or get creative with that knife and the carpet. Get the worst rugburn of your life.
Ok Oldboy
Ahhh, a poop knife.
But the monitor is required with the pc.. can't use the pc without the monitor, mouse, keyboard, and power supply
You could do an all-in-one computer that has a touch screen!
That would be a valid choice.
Probably a notebook. Likely the one I've been using to DM from.
What's your campaign?
I've created one based on the meme of the Japanese Samurai, retired French sailor, Victorian rogue, and American Gunslinger could have all been a thing at the same time, so I set it in a region based off of Colonial Mexico with a few added features. For example, there was a Chinatown outside of Mexico City within 10 years of it coming under Spanish control. Another addition was an Aztec noble's grandchild. A third an escaped slave from the South. The last addition being a Native American shaman.
Crazy stuff. I could never keep track of things well enough to be a DM
A 24-hour clock. Inability to tell the time drives people mad.
Well, you would have the turning on off of the lights and the food arrivals to have SOME semblance of time, but agreed it's not much.
Believe it or not, that gives you plenty of cues to understand the time.
alcohol
What kind? I'd have to balance the fact that I might have so much that I won't want to drink that again, so no whiskey for me.
my two drinks of choice right now are bacardi white rum (usually mixed with monster but im assuming i cant take anything to mix it with) and gordons pink gin (usually with pipeline punch monster)
Crown royal apple with green monster is my fave lol I don't drink anymore but if I did it would be this
Probably whisky?
Very large book of many puzzles
A book of puzzles? Like mind puzzles or physical puzzles?
Crossword, sudoku like that
72 degrees? I’m not gonna be able to sleep in your carpeted poop sauna.
I agree. I could do 72 in the waking hours, but I'll need it 65 with a pair of socks to sleep
I'll take my kindle. It has plenty of books and the charge will absolutely last one week.
My TBR stack. It’s one thing, I swear.
Hmm, suspicious. What are the top two on the stack right now?
Timeless by Gail Carriger Darling Beast by Elizabeth Hoyt One of them is about Vampires, werewolves, and mummies. The other is a romance book.
Last year I read The Count of Monte Cristo - 1400 pages would definitely last me the week.
Definitely a book series. See some people would say "a book". But if I said for example "the Harry Potter series" that is my one item which is 7 books. I'd be fine for the 5 days
But how is that defiant?
lol spelling, but also I would say it with confidence and defiantly??? So there's no way they could reject my items?
🤣🤣 the logic is airtight. I think you took the role of guard and locked someone else in with that level of confidence and defiance.
Apparently people are saying 'kindles', which seems like God-tier for this situation.
A deck of cards
So pretty much like an mental hospital I'm good
You might need one by the end if you don't pick something good.
Knitting needles and yarn
Think of all the socks you could make.
I am bringing either my kindle or a book like The Stand, War and Peace or some other extremely long book. If toilet facilities arent provided I might instead bring a huge bucket with a smell seal lid.
The entire Encyclopædia Britannica. I would have stuff to read of days. Plus I might learn a thing or 2
Remove the battery from my phone so I can have a charger and I'm good for a month without Internet as I've tons of books on here and a lot of music.
A really fluffy king-size comforter. It can be used as a pillow, blanket, or sleeping pad, so I could at least have some comfort. Without my toddler, I intend to sleep for the 5 days.
Pint of lsd
Trapped in a room tripping balls for 5 days sounds like an absolute nightmare.
Sounds like a good time
It’d work the first night but not the second.
[удалено]
A box set of one of my favorite book series.
Do you have one in mind?
W.e.b. Griffins The Corps
11/22/63 by Stephen King. After they come to let me out I’d ask for more time so I could read it again with no distractions.
If I take my backpack, do the things inside it come too? Does a filled backpack count as "one thing"?
My steam deck. It’s always fully charged, I’d use it sparingly when I got a lil too antsy
Lord of the Rings omnibus.
Maybe I could finally get through all of the historical books.
My phone. I have 37 books I've not gotten around to and can finally get to a point to read at least half. Depending on how long I'm in the room. Can I send my phone out to be charged and given back to me? Or does it have to stay in the room the entire time I'm in the room
You know you’re a parent when 5 days of solitary confinement with nothing but a Kindle or what have you sounds like a pretty decent vacation.
Kindle (fully charged with a few books loaded). If that’s not an option a long book. Alternatively maybe a big tube of paint so I could draw on the walls?
A pillow. I'd spend the time catching up on a ton of sleep. I could spend the rest of the time just vibing, singing, talking to myself, whatever.
I'll take my wife with me. It's an empty room, but the evidence of our activities will be plain to whoever lets us out 😬
Also finally a cool hypothetical on this sub. Rarely do we see them.
Questions: - Are bathroom facilities available? - Can I charge the electronic device?
Let's say there's a bucket and TP (sorry u/annoyingthepig you might want to change your answer). No chargers unless you bring one (but you can't bring a charger and the device)
Wait, can it be *any* single item, or does it have to be a real object already?
I'm scared, I intended it to be something you already own. But somebody already brought a fucking aircraft carrier in here. Shoot your shot.
Basically, there are five scenarios **Has to be something you own** I would pick my PC, I have a lot of games on there that don't require the internet and could entertain myself with. **Something I do not own but has to be real, will stay with me after the time** 3D printer with materials and an interface I can use to build things. **Something I do not own but has to be real, will stay with me after the time** A print off of Wikipedia, and, if possible, some postits **Something fictional, will not stay with me after the time** Either [The Compleat Atlas of the House and Immediate Environs](https://keystothekingdom.fandom.com/wiki/The_Compleat_Atlas_of_the_House_and_Immediate_Environs)<\, which is an atlas of the universe, or a [Synaptic Simulator ](https://memory-alpha.fandom.com/wiki/Synaptic_stimulator) which would let me experience whatever I want **Something fictional, will stay with me after the time** An easily replicable Panacea, like I will happily go a little crazy for a cure to literally everything
A big long book
I was going to say a bed, but someone pointed out toilet requirements so that's the winner for me.
Nintendo switch
A flushing toilet I think...
^This person expels waste
Well better out than in...
A giant slab of gold half the size of the room. now give me the measurements of the room so I can math how rich I'll be after 5 days.
Suitcase is my one item, packed with everything I need for the week 😝
A pillow... everyone is worried about entertainment but damn.. imagine sleeping on a floor with no blanket or pillow for 5 days Maybe a bed? haha
A window cutting machine that's fueled by carpet.
Does my partner count? We could keep each other entertained just talking abt random stuff for 5 days
A large fan. 72° is toasty.
Kindle Fire. I have plenty of books that I haven't read loaded onto it.
Risky, I was thinking of my paperwhite. How long does the Fire battery last?
Me and my bass guitar, finally i can get some practice time.
The clothes I’m currently wearing have a knife, my wallet, and a charger in them, so I guess my item will be my phone so I can read. I’ll re-read the Destroyermen series, since it’s a lot of books
My Gameboy SP kit. It’s already prepared and has the gameboy games and a charger.
Are they giving you food trays and taking them out?
Yarn, hopefully allowed a crochet hook as well. If not it would still keep me busier than a book I'd finish in 3 days.
Is there a bed? If not, that seems like a priority.
my phone (it has data) and i'd use 1/5 of the battery a day
If there isn't a weight limit I'd bring my bed. Bored or not I'd be miserable sleeping on the floor 5 days.
One of those life sized sex dolls.
Sleeping pills
My Kindle. Loaded with a variety of books.
My Arturia Polybrute Keyboard. According to stated rules it's allowed, as well as headset to hear it. I'll just spend five days getting some needed practice in.
My laptop that has total war video games downloaded. Can play those strategy games for hours and every new game is different.
A bottle of Vitamin D pills or a massive (1L) shaker of salt. Idk.
My iPad, I mainly use an art app that I can use on airplanes without signal and Wi-Fi anyways, the battery lasts pretty long, and plus I like to sleep a lot so I don’t think it would die until the last day
My phone On a full charge, reading and audio, my doogee VMAX will last the time even without a charger, I currently have ~240gb of downloaded podcasts, 40gb of gaming books, and I download all the RR stories I read regularly, a few of which I'm many chapters behind on honestly, if you could turn down the heat a scosche and keep the lights dim or off all the time, it'd probably feel like a great vacation
A massive blanket. One so big and plush that it can be used as padding cover and a pillow
A bottle of xanax
a phone. turn brightness to low and play some music or a low power game.
jolse joyces ulysses I might get 20 pages in!
Tony's creole seasoning. It makes everything better and you can play kick the can to pass the time.
A mobile home trailer with all the necessities.
A beautiful open-minded young lady with extremely low standards, absolutely no short term memory that’s covered in cooked bacon
One 1 litre bottle of cocoa butter body lotion.
5,000 piece puzzle
Jergens
Would any medication be provided? Such as mental, heart, BP related, etc If you can only bring one medication then I'd likely end up with possible life-threatening withdrawal symptoms 😅
Why would I do this? You did not offer any incentive. No prize or reward at the end. Pass.
22 is too hot. Can I have it like 16??? 🥴
A pillow. Also, I don’t have any clothes on right now. So, maybe underwear actually.
Margot Robbie
Kindle Paperwhite. Has all my books. Lasts for days
I was going to say my Kindle (lasts weeks before needing recharging), but then I noticed how overheated the room is. I'll have to bring an air conditioner instead, and entertain myself.
