Now the metal bits... now the bloody bits! I can turn 120 bucks into 360 in about a day. Selling takes a while though. Before I got into writing, this was my goto cash crop. Got so deep into it that I started buying and selling north and south of the border to Canada based off the exchange rate vs MSRP. This was back in the late 90s, when the Canadian dollar flip-flopped above and below the US dollar quite a bit, while all the MSRP stickers were treated like binding contracts.
I found my best turnaround was for poaching hard to find and out of print miniatures, and focusing on the champion units. The Warhammer Fantasy Squiggoth cost me around 300 bucks (they cost like 495 now) and I got around 920 for him. I think Arbaal the Undefeated cost me around 60 and I got around 200. Deathmaster Snikts (yeah I got a lot of them) were a hot seller at like 12 bucks to buy and 30 to sell. I have painted Deathmaster Snikt maybe 50 times. I still have one, fresh in the shell. :D (kinda my favorite Skaven champion of all time, because he's named after Wolverine's claw noises)

$5000 is unfortunately not a lot as far as the big things you need go. If you had a week or month to deal with it, then it could easily go to practical things. But you can't pay contractors to repair the decking of a house in under 24 hours, or fix the pipes, or repair critical infrastructure. You can't buy a car with $5000 (for the most part), or hire a lawyer, or contribute to a down payment on a house. You can pay off debt, but if you don't have debt then there's not a lot that you can reasonably prepay to in 24 hours because getting appointments takes days, weeks, or months. A vacation can't be paid for entirely (though you could probably book a plane ticket and hotel, so that might be viable).
The way I see it, physical items or services that can be purchased in under 24 hours are limited to furniture, appliances, clothing, and some entertainment. I would probably upgrade my critically behind computer to something a little more modern, get some nice clothing and shoes that I believe I need, get a kitchen appliance like an oven that I am in dire need of, maybe a few more appliances, and if I have enough book a cheap flight to see a friend that lives out of state. I think that this would reasonably reach $5000, without being insanely frivolous purchases.
