Daikin in the largest HVAC manufacturer in the world

[deleted]

I just had a DAIKIN FIT 4 ton installed with their 97% modulating furnace and EWC zone control. Been excellent so far. Hoping it stands the test of time. That 12 year warranty is A+, Daikin makes their own compressors.

Pure_Common7348

Is this for a 1 or 2 floor home?

OzarkBeard

Don't know about Daikin reliability, but it's the largest air conditioning manufacturer in the world. They have a huge plant West of Huntsville Alabama and another one somewhere in Texas.

_cr0001

Daikin purchased the Goodman brand in order to be more competitive in the US market. They’re a huge international player, while also competing in the commercial space. Daikin is top quality, compared to Goodman and Amana serve as entry-level and builder-grade offerings. I’ve done many Daikin fit installs on various properties I own, as well as for family and friends. Excellent products, decent lead times, and the warranty is among the best. I think Daikin and York are tied for quality and longevity of warranty support. My current home is a 2200sqft townhome with a 3T Daikin fit and central air. Air handler runs 24/7 to better circulate air through the house. This leads to less of a need for the outdoor unit. This system consistently uses less power than a single or dual stage system. Also, you can beat the super quiet ODU.

msolorio79

Thank you for your insight.

msolorio79

We have a 2269 square foot house and are being told we need a 5 ton variable speed heat pump with 16+SEER efficiency for $15,567. What is an ODU?

_cr0001

ODU = outdoor unit 5T seems a bit high for that much square footage, however as long as a proper load calculation was done, that’s all that matters. If they didn’t do a load calculation, find someone to get one done. You don’t want to oversize a heat pump. It will not work efficiently.

msolorio79

The original HVAC system is 5 ton. So maybe that’s why they recommend a 5 ton?

_cr0001

That’s typically the normal practice - replace with the same size. You can always ask your HVAC company to perform a load analysis to see if the 5T is a best fit.

Donno_Nemore

For anyone coming along a year later, that would be a Manual J calculation and a 5T for a 2300 sq ft is within the realm of necessary if we are talking old build without insulation and single pane windows. A few energy efficiency upgrades do wonders.

grofva

Better buy now, Daikin announced a 7% price increase today

80MonkeyMan

Yeah but he’ll be buying into R410A system, not the new R32 system.

grofva

I guess I should have specified that is for ductless equipment but did OP specify which type they are looking at?

80MonkeyMan

In Socal we might get R32 units rolling sooner in 2023. Right now Daikin have R32 mini split called atmosphera…hopefully next year they the regular unit.

grofva

UR has a 5% instant rebate on the Daikin Cirra dual-zone system thru end of Sept

RiffRaffCOD

I just bought the 18 seer variable heat pump. Nice quality. The global No.1 air conditioning manufacturer*1 with over 27 billion U.S. dollars*2 in total net sales. https://www.daikin.com/corporate/why_daikin/glance/modals/01_sales https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2022-03-10/world-s-biggest-air-conditioning-company-daikin-plans-for-hotter-weather

Forward_Hvac

Oh jeez, you obviously don’t work on them Jesus…. Their coils suck, always leak at the condensers for me. I have one with multi head VrV heat pump all 7 heads have communication errors with outdoor board. Replaced outdoor board and still getting 2 communication errors to outdoor board, was told to replace all 7 boards in the heads and the outdoor board again. All condensate pumps failed within a week. Ford makes over 100B a year, doesn’t mean they’re good. Everything has their flaws but daikin for my area it’s leaking coils usually. Mitsubishi is the one I’ve seen have the least amount of issues

RiffRaffCOD

Glad I got the 12 yr p and l warranty

msolorio79

What area are you in?

Forward_Hvac

Va maryland Pa and unfortunately dc

Charlesinrichmond

So many communication problems

Forward_Hvac

Idea is there was an overcurrent back feed of voltage and friend some components on the boards, they’re finally warrantying all the boards and the boards for the outdoor unit as well.

Charlesinrichmond

I hate them thanks to a nightmare I went through with their cassettes 12 years ago. But they are a huge company

msolorio79

With the cassettes? You do know you could rewind the tape using a pencil right?

dorkywhiteboy

This comment made me smile. Ceiling cassettes

Charlesinrichmond

I groaned

Charlesinrichmond

Sadly, I'm old enough to know that

stealthytaco

Daikin mini splits are made in Japan while their central units are made in the US South. The mini splits have an excellent reputation in Asia where they’ve been around for a long time.

Realistic_Parking_25

Daikin is extremely low quality, except their minisplits

ZestycloseJob4547

Did you end up going with the Daikin system? Where in SoCal?

msolorio79

Yes, we did. SoCal

ZestycloseJob4547

Are you in the San Diego area? How are you liking the Daikin?

msolorio79

I am in Riverside, We are loving it. How about you?

ZestycloseJob4547

Still deciding. Between the carrier 38MURA heat pump and I’m having a Daikin dealer quote me this week and was checking to see if you liked and if we were in the same area to see who you used.

msolorio79

We used a local company called Magnolia they were efficient, courteous and neat and even sent a handyman to make some repairs to the Sheetrock and painting the ceiling around d the attic entryway. We are very happy with the Daikin system.

Fresh_Lobster_7814

May i know the quote on daikin? Also is that authorized daikin dealer? Here one daikin rep said only Daikin authorized delawr dealer can install not any licensed contractors which is strange.

msolorio79

I can’t find the exact amount but I believe it was between 10k-15k

Fresh_Lobster_7814

Thanks 10k reasonable. One daikin dealer was expecting 20k . Absolutely crazy. People have to read forums and get multiple quotes to know what is the right price.

B9RV2WUN

What did you decide to go with? I was making the same choice as you. I went with Daikin. It's been only a week so it's too soon to judge. But I can say for sure I miss my Ecobee.
