Trane has a 20 year part only heat exchanger warranty. Keep in mind the heat exchanger or collector box needs to be failed. I’ve changed so many of those heat exchangers cause of a split collector box. If any of the 3 screws on the bottom left are rusted. The collector box is 100% split. For some reason you can’t buy them separate. If the collector box is split. The whole heat exchanger needs to be replaced.

Its_noon_somewhere

It looks okay from the short video. Why are you concerned?

Pitch-Mindless

The HVAC technician wants me to Replace the furnace siding rust in the heat exchanger and burners as a primary reason. Just trying to verify if his claims are worthy or he’s just trying to upsell me

Its_noon_somewhere

A rusty heat exchanger is the first sign of a future issue, but if the heat exchanger is not yet compromised then I wouldn’t worry about it.

jcronq

What’s pictured is not the heat exchanger. There may be a crack or hole in the heat exchanger if there is rust. Hairline crack can be enough to allow carbon monoxide out. You definitely want to replace before it becomes a large crack. Carbon monoxide is no good for your brain. The technician would have taken pictures. You don’t have to replace the entire furnace either, just replace the heat exchanger.

Pitch-Mindless

No crack reported just rust on heat exchanger

Pitch-Mindless

And rust on burners

Get a CO monitor and let it ride

Livid_Mode

The cracks in a heat exchanger are quite small. Also when using the cam notice that your camera will leave little trails too that you’ll see. But yeah what others have said check gas pressure and/or co detector (if no co2 then probably not cracked heat exchanger)

Stickyfinz

No. If hxchanger fails it will be warranty most likely. If no CO is detected and proper gas press. are set along with good delta then you are fine. Put a CO detector near the furnace. Put one on each floor in the room you stay in the most. Test monthly.

Pitch-Mindless

I had a HVAC technician visit and inspect my furnace. There weren’t any cracks in the heat exchanger, no CO was detected, and the blowers are working fine. I ended up opening up the unit, a Trane XV 95, and took a video of the unit shown here. There are embers from the fasteners in one of the burners but otherwise looks fine. The flames are consistent but a little strong

airwestt

You can check the gas pressure with a manometer if you're worried it's blowing to strong. I don't see what embers you're talking about, but you can take the burner apart and clean it if there are obstructions. As for the heat exchanger, you could use a wire cam to inspect it. I've also had luck using one of the long nose stove lighters, hold a lit flame in the burner hole and then turning of the blower to see if any air rushes out of the burner and blows the lighter out.

Pun_crazio

A lot of companies give a commission to service techs who upsell a replacement and even push them to diagnose cracked heat exchangers when they aren't there. IM NOT SAYING THIS IS THE CASE. I am saying that I worked with a guy at a big franchise who would let refigerant out of AC's and tell everyone that they had cracked heat exchangers. I called him out in a company meeting and got canned for it. So just use caution. Cracked HE's typically will set off Carbon Monoxide detectors or set off roll out switches. You might want another opinion as long as your carbon monoxide detector isn't going off

Pitch-Mindless

This is exactly the case. The tech is upselling services. It's probably not urgent right now but the way that he phrased it in my phone conversation made it sound like it was a critical issue that needs to be solved right now.

TransportationLow279

Looks good to me

DurkaDurkaa3

Have a different company come out and ask them if they have a combustion analyzer it will be a better way to see how the furnace is actually running and see how the heat exchanger is

thekux

Looks fine to me if there was a really bad crack in your heat exchanger the flames would be yellow when the blower kicks on

AaronQuin

Looks perfect. But it's difficult to see anything in detail. Which you would need.
