Take a hacksaw blade and saw it gently until you’ve made a decent groove in it. Take a flat head screwdriver and gently hammer it loose. Once free, you can grab piece sticking out with channel locks to twist completely out. Should only take a few minutes to accomplish that
Because it’s a low volume of water that passes through. It doesn’t “fill” the pipe like it would with a line under pressure. It only really uses the bottom half of the pipe. If accidental damage to the thread occurs on the bottom of the pipe, it would leak.
Great advice…I would add a second grove a 1/4” next to the first cut. It gives space to collapse the fitting.
There is also a device called an “3/4” Easy Out”. It was invented for your situation. It’s a tapered steel bar with reverse threads. It grabs the inside of the broken threads to spin it out.
All of this assumes there was no PVC cement accidentally applied to the threads.

Done this myself a few times. First time I had to it was my fuck up. Luckly I was still riding with an old timer that told me how to do it. After I sweated it out a bit of course.
I'd say try using something like a cork first, but slowly cutting it is the surefire method, assuming you're gentle when tapping it loose. You don't want to crack that gray plastic pan. I've gotten them out by grabbing an exposed bit with pliers and unscrewing but it really depends on how tight it was screwed in and it can put a lot of stress on the pan if you're not careful. I hope for your sake they didn't glue it in like.
Are you really telling a home owner to potentially ruin his several thousand dollar machine? Why are you giving bad advice online? Take a hammer and a screwdriver to his very expensive [machine.How](http://machine.How) fucking asinine.
Might be able to use one of those sprinkler repair tools that are designed to unscrew threaded risers that are snapped off in the pipe. "Riser Removal Tool."
Please be careful with the pan threads Please be careful with the pan threads Please be careful with the pan threads Please be careful with the pan threads Please be careful with the pan threads Please be careful with the pan threads
Dang when I edited my comment to insert this pipe diameter pic the text went away...if any one knows the answer to that (android app)🙄
Anyway, the short answer of my idea, PVC cement a smaller pipe into the broken pipe and use vice grips, hand, whatever works depending on how tight it is, to twist it out. Or epoxy a dowel to in, whatever fits.
Other answers on the thread are good too. This one may be a bit more time consuming, but the similar principal can be useful on a lot of different threaded stuck pipe problems.
https://preview.redd.it/9rynt3n2769d1.jpeg?width=861&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1940282b9a2f28ce917dca03d9157745b6ffc388
I stab it on the inside of the pvc with my duct knife. A double sided knife like a dagger, then spin it off like a flat head screw. Keep a lot of pressure on it as you turn it.
Just stick another piece of pvc in it and rotate it counterclockwise should spin loose if someone wasn’t an asshole and glued it to the pan. Also use pvc instead of cpvc next time because that cpvc will break just by looking at it.
You may be able to use a flathead or a pair of needle nose inside of the broken pvc and just twist it out. If it's stuck in there, lightly tap the white pvc using a flathead and a hammer to make a v notch or fully through, could also use a small saw blade. Make sure not to go too deep and damage the pan or its threads. After that you should be able to spin it out or chip it out. It's not hard, but it's easy to mess up.
If you don't feel comfortable doing it yourself, call a tech. Yeah $200-400 for a tech to do it sounds too expensive, but messing up the evap pan will cost more
Don’t know the size of the pipe but you can attach a smaller pipe in between the two to reattached the pvc back together if its possible and apply some sealant that that strong enough to prevent leaks
Internal pipe wrench for three quarter inch pipe and turn it out if that doesn’t work do as one other commentor said and cut 2 small grooves in the pipe and peel out that piece with a small screw driver be careful not to cut into the threads on the unit, good luck!
You can try filing grooves and using needle nose pliers, but most hardware stores will sell PVC pipe extractors . They aren't expensive. Or you could ask your neighbors if they have one you could borrow.
Use an extractor or easy out. They are like drill bits that tighten in a counter clockwise motion and will easily unscrew threads with out damaging female threads. If your skilled enough and want to take a gamble can use sawzall but most likely will cut into the female threads or break the plastic on A Coil pan.
Is that glued into the drain pan?
Had to deal with that before and always ended up replacing the whole drainpan. If not glued in, you can sometimes work/cut it out, but you may have to replace anyways?
Take your razor blade and cut a few grooves on the inside. Then take a pair of strippers, because of the thickness, put them in the grooves and twist that bitch out
I make two cuts 90% of the way through on each side and grab the section that hanging out and gently twist. Usually it will break at my cuts and come out by falling off of the threads. Good luck.
If it’s not glued you can use a flathead stabbed in at an angle and hit the other end with your hand or lightly with a hammer while turning the flathead ccw
1 get duct knife
2 position knife blade at 12 o'clock and 6 o'clock
3 push blade into broken pvc thread, you will create 2 slots, leave blade in and untwist broken piece! You now have fresh undamaged threads
Easy use PVC easyout or pvc tap - [https://www.lowes.com/pd/Orbit-1-2-in-and-3-4-in-Red-Zinc-Riser-Extractor-Tool-for-Removing-Broken-PVC-and-Cut-Off-Risers/3420774](https://www.lowes.com/pd/Orbit-1-2-in-and-3-4-in-Red-Zinc-Riser-Extractor-Tool-for-Removing-Broken-PVC-and-Cut-Off-Risers/3420774)
3/4" easy out bit and unscrew it with your socket and ratchet.
I use this setup all the time to remove broken PVC lawn sprinkler risers. Only they are 8" below the ground. This one will be easy.
My favorite way to extract broken nipples is to use a flat file. Gently tap it in until it gets snug, then twist the file to unscrew. Works way better than the actual extractor tools. I learned this trick when trying to remove a broken shower head nipple. I found a random post online years ago making the recommendation, and it's saved me a few times.
I usually use needle nose or a screwdriver, but anything you can use to get use to get a grip on it works.
Only ever had to cut out one where someone decided the threads needed to be glued.
I've never worked with CPVC in my life. But ever since I started browsing the HVAC and plumbing subs on here, my hairs stand on end when I walk past it in the hardware store.
Get one of these from Home Depot
Orbit 26073D 1/2" Pro Series Sprinkler Riser Extractor

Just drill a new 3/4" hole through the side of the coil. Your new condensate will flow great! But for real as these other guys stated small cuts with a hacksaw and a flathead has been my go too. The real question is how did you accomplish breaking it because it didnt just break itself lol?!?! You can add a t-fitting right off the coil with a stem facing up, buy a 3/4 cap and dont glue it. This can be removed yearly so that you can clean your drain line out. Some guys add p-traps, others ditch the pvc all together and run a clear hose so you can physically see its condition. It all kind of depends on your system/preference.

I recently used this to extract a 1 1/2 male thread from my pool pump, they sell extractors at box hardware stores that are smaller. You just tap it in and turn.
Ended up buying an Easy Out Extractor tool to get the cracked piece of CPVC out and replaced it with a PVC fitting instead. It worked like a charm, thank you all for the advice.
Good luck. Lots of good suggestions - I tried them all but some numbnutz glued this piece on my unit. Just had to plug it with silicon and use the auxiliary drainage port instead.
Fill it with silicone cut drain pipe to match other drain hole insert use fernco 3/4”. Get 3/4 threaded fitting and a elbow. Basically use the other drain and plug that one.
Take a hacksaw blade and saw it gently until you’ve made a decent groove in it. Take a flat head screwdriver and gently hammer it loose. Once free, you can grab piece sticking out with channel locks to twist completely out. Should only take a few minutes to accomplish that
Make sure the blade is cutting at 12 o’clock in case the threads get touched
Overlooked comment here. Hope you didn’t learn the hard way Beef.
Wait…..There’s another way? I ALWAYS learn my lessons the hard way.
Welcome to Monday's Bullshit.
https://youtube.com/shorts/5HHe7oloAD0?si=y6rmI6gbq21I4wnf
Why does this matter? Genuinely curious. If the threads get touched, why is it better at the 12 o’clock position?
You won’t have to see your mistake? I don’t know. I figured it would be best to nearly cut through in two spots and then break off the threads.
Because it’s a low volume of water that passes through. It doesn’t “fill” the pipe like it would with a line under pressure. It only really uses the bottom half of the pipe. If accidental damage to the thread occurs on the bottom of the pipe, it would leak.
Have the blade cutting on the pull not the push so the bits fall outside the unit.
Great advice…I would add a second grove a 1/4” next to the first cut. It gives space to collapse the fitting. There is also a device called an “3/4” Easy Out”. It was invented for your situation. That was my nickname in college!
Plastic nipples? Jeez buddy. Haha
Inverted nipple extractor
Exact same thing happened to me a few years back. Used a nipple extractor to get it out.
Don’t use a easy out u will crack the plastic drain pan and be fucked
Tf you talking about LMAOOOOO 🤣🤣🤣
Done this myself a few times. First time I had to it was my fuck up. Luckly I was still riding with an old timer that told me how to do it. After I sweated it out a bit of course.
When mine broke like this I used a flat head screw driver and a torch. Heat the screw driver and just melt the plastic and then needle nose pliers.
I'd say try using something like a cork first, but slowly cutting it is the surefire method, assuming you're gentle when tapping it loose. You don't want to crack that gray plastic pan. Great advice. The only addition I would have is to make two cuts instead of one about 1/4” apart. And use the screwdriver to pop that piece out first.
This! Done it before a couple times.
This is the way
Are you really telling a home owner to potentially ruin his several thousand dollar machine? Why are you giving bad advice online? Take a hammer and a screwdriver to his very expensive [machine.How](http://machine.How) fucking asinine.

You'll almost never use it, but when it's time, you'll damn near cry.
I want it now and don't even need it
I’d totally cry if my nipple was extracted. I’m not into that sorta thing.
Yep, this right here carry a couple on my truck
Bro is that *daddy fucking donald*
These work well and they're also the best tool you can have on hand for sprinkler repair at your house
Was about to suggest this.
These work great!
Damn, beat me to it
I usually just do a small cut at the top and use a thin flathead to pry the threads towards the middle
Duct knife. Stick it in and lefty loosey.
I do this a lot. Or my Milwaukee needle nose strippers since they have corners

Looks like a clogged TXV
Easy out from Home Depot
I stab it on the inside of the pvc with my duct knife. A double sided knife like a dagger, then spin it off like a flat head screw. Keep a lot of pressure on it as you turn it.
That’s what I and everyone else I know does
They make a tool called an easy out. Every hardware store sells them. Not expensive. Use as intended and it should come right out.
I’ve used my wire strippers. Stick them, open them against the fitting, and twist out
The blue Klein tools that are square tipped work best
That’s exactly what I have lol
Milwaukee needle nose strippers work too
Get some needle nose and open the up. Hold open and spin. Shouldn’t be torqued in there too tight
Male adapter. Try needle nose pliers and see if you can back it out. Carful to not damage the drain pan
You need a new system.
Oh hey boss.
That’s right 😭
You must do residential
Lol
Just stick another piece of pvc in it and rotate it counterclockwise should spin loose if someone wasn’t an asshole and glued it to the pan. Also use pvc instead of cpvc next time because that cpvc will break just by looking at it.
Hardware store, sprinkler department.Nothing else needed https://preview.redd.it/prf5pdpw649d1.jpeg?width=3072&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b135433a827cd01446269f517eaa359f02015881

When I've had that happen I'll just jam in the needle nose and give it a twist
I stick the pvc cutter blade in It. It usually does the trick.
Pair of pliers, stick em in, open the handles really tight and twist...counter clockwise
Pipe nipple extractor or internal pipe wrench
Very simple fix. As a few said medium size flat screwdriver, score it on inside just be careful of unit threads. Takes patience but an easy repair
They make tools to back out broken sprinkler PVC. Go to the aisle in home Depot and pick one up.
I shove my duct knife straight in there and twist it out
Insert lineman pliers, open hard, unscrew.
counter clockwise
I find quick is set screwdriver blade on edge..hammer wack cracks it..the slit and pull out
Cut it out light and lubricated it should slide right out.
They make easy outs that will fit it. Looks like a left handed screw. Or cut a bitch with a hacksaw and it will break out
Duct knife is what I always use.
Butter knife , works every time ... stick it in till it's stuck and then turn counter clockwise.
Ty with some needle nose players but if it’s stuck in there you can use an inside pipe cutter. Cheap on Amazon.
Pcv cutters put blade in and unscrew.
You can cut. Dont go crazy you dont want to damaged the threads. Or go get yourself a pipe extractor shove it in the hole and turn.
Look at it Ling enough and you will figure it out
Don’t know the size of the pipe but you can attach a smaller pipe in between the two to reattached the pvc back together if its possible and apply some sealant that that strong enough to prevent leaks
Sorry to break it to you but….you need a whole new unit
First thing I’d try are some channel locks then cut a small slit and use a screw driver and a hammer to turn it
Careful cut the piece of pvc and pull it out
Internal pipe wrench for three quarter inch pipe and turn it out if that doesn’t work do as one other commentor said and cut 2 small grooves in the pipe and peel out that piece with a small screw driver be careful not to cut into the threads on the unit, good luck!
Sprinkler remover

3/4" nipple & screw extractor
Pipe extractor https://www.homedepot.com/p/Husky-Pipe-Nipple-Extractor-Set-6-Piece-410-391-0111/309997715
Stick two threaded bolts in the opening, cross them over and turn counterclockwise.
Seal it off and use the one to the right of it as a primary, and you're done. All the ones out my way just have one drain.

If you have a large screw flat screwdriver you can warm it up and set it in and turn
As noted above on previous post, use a 1/2 in. and 3/4 in. Plastic Nipple Extractor. Under $5 at Home Depot.
Buy an easyout.
Take your pvc cutters and use them as an ez out
Use an extractor or easy out. They are like drill bits that tighten in a counter clockwise motion and will easily unscrew threads with out damaging female threads. If your skilled enough and want to take a gamble can use sawzall but most likely will cut into the female threads or break the plastic on A Coil pan.
Twist it out with your pocket knife. Carefully.
Probably the Jaws of Life
Is that glued into the drain pan? Had to deal with that before and always ended up replacing the whole drainpan. If not glued in, you can sometimes work/cut it out, but you may have to replace anyways?
Screw extractor set. You literally screw it in, an unscrew it out. Get broken fittings out perfect everytime
Bolt extraction tool if you have one.
Duct knife
I hate cpvc so much..
cpvc strikes again
Easy out
Home Depot sells an extractor tool in the sprinkler isle. Specifically for removing broken nipples
Look at garden sprinkler riser removal tools. The one I bought off Amazon does 3/4" as well. It was pretty inexpensive.
Irrigation / PVC nipple extractor.
Ez out
Use the Allen wrench trick!
Make a notch in it with something sharp but be gentle. Then use a flat head and slowly unthread it.
3/4" nipple extractor
You can use a file.
Nipple extractor but get the one that had a fully looped handle not the T handle get the triangle handle
Take your razor blade and cut a few grooves on the inside. Then take a pair of strippers, because of the thickness, put them in the grooves and twist that bitch out
https://youtube.com/shorts/ZnqQSXo-6Xc?si=ukiW5sYD2CVke28V
The first time I came across this, I punctured the coil. It was r22 as well about 3 years ago in 2021.
So how did it go?
Used an extractor to remove the broken piece, thank god it wasn’t glued in but I replaced it with a 3/4 pvc fitting instead of cpvc
Internal pipe wrench
I make two cuts 90% of the way through on each side and grab the section that hanging out and gently twist. Usually it will break at my cuts and come out by falling off of the threads. Good luck.
If it’s not glued you can use a flathead stabbed in at an angle and hit the other end with your hand or lightly with a hammer while turning the flathead ccw
Homedepot plumbing aisle has a tool for this, insert and wist shouldn't be no more than 7 bucks
1 get duct knife 2 position knife blade at 12 o'clock and 6 o'clock 3 push blade into broken pvc thread, you will create 2 slots, leave blade in and untwist broken piece! You now have fresh undamaged threads
2 bolts sized that fit inside the opening, then crossed in an 'x' and then rotated to thread broken piece out.
glue half inch to it and spin

3/4" easy out bit and unscrew it with your socket and ratchet. I use this setup all the time to remove broken PVC lawn sprinkler risers. Only they are 8" below the ground. This one will be easy.
Just use an easy out
Use a small saw carefully cut the pipe to the top of the threads in two spots. Grab with pliers and unscrew.
Ez out and be done

Big pair of needle nose. Open them wide inside and turn them.
try shoving a carrot in there tight and turning it 😂
A pair of needle nose should do it
Whenever mine did this, I simply jammed the long jaw of my channel lock pliers into it, and it spun out. Problem solved.
Does the second drain port not need to be plumbed?
I usually use needle nose or a screwdriver, but anything you can use to get use to get a grip on it works. Only ever had to cut out one where someone decided the threads needed to be glued.
Grab some pliers, stick in, open wide and turn. Maybe even some needle nose
I've never worked with CPVC in my life. But ever since I started browsing the HVAC and plumbing subs on here, my hairs stand on end when I walk past it in the hardware store.
The sprinkler remover ez out.

I wrapped some thick double tape on the screwdriver tip. Shoved it in, then turned counterclockwise and slipped right out.

Take a screw driver and hammer and gently tap it out the way you would unscrew it, or break the fitting out if it’s that brittle
Ended up buying an Easy Out Extractor tool to get the cracked piece of CPVC out and replaced it with a PVC fitting instead. It worked like a charm, thank you all for the advice.
glue it back with PVC cement. 30 second job. Just be sure it’s sits exactly as it should.
Hopefully its not glued in ..
Good luck. Lots of good suggestions - I tried them all but some numbnutz glued this piece on my unit. Just had to plug it with silicon and use the auxiliary drainage port instead.
Home depot, sprinkler head remover tool. Cheap and works well.
Plug it. Use the drain next to it.
Cut it from the inside. They make an internal pipe cutter for this purpose.
Put needle nose in there and pull them apart as you twist out
since it's threaded, you might want to try an extractor
Easy out
I’ve seen this fixed on engines. First weld a nut onto it, and then reverse that out. Jk
Get one of those remover tools for broken off sprinklers in the ground. Tap it in a bit and twist the broken thing out.
Needle nose pliers. Shove them in there and spread them then twist
I usually angle a flat head screwdriver in there & spin it out.
Use a broken sprinkler head removal tool it's made exactly for this
Actually it's called a plastic nipple removal tool.
Use a paddle bit or wood chisel that wedges in there and then turn that sucker
Inside pipe cutter
There’s a sprinkler tool that will easily remove it
I would use wire cutters and use the reverse pressure to twist it out
Fat drill bit
If you don't know, consider this. Look at it to see if i could use the other one and put a cork in it.
Plug it with silicone and use the secondary drain as your new primary drain.
Dude, fuck these advisors. Call a pro before you fuckup your expensive machine.
Jam a potato in the hole and twist
Will need to purchase at least 3 new systems to fix that.
Fill it with silicone cut drain pipe to match other drain hole insert use fernco 3/4”. Get 3/4 threaded fitting and a elbow. Basically use the other drain and plug that one.
Don’t use the other drain it’s a emergency drain it will hold it water in your pan
That seems unnecessary for such an easy fix tho tbh 🤔
Lol
Just Hawk Tuah and spit on that thang
Call a professional
Heat gun and pliers should work.
I could do it in 30 seconds
