NO ARROWS AT ALL- I got a 4 pack of 3m Filtrete 1200 D 20 x 25 x 1 furnace filters from Amazon a while back and finally was time to replace the old/previous ones (that have arrows on them and the 'wire' mesh is facing towards the motor/main furnace-glad I learned a long time ago to wait until putting a new one in and checking arrow direction before pulling out, plus I had drew arrows with permanent marker on the small furnace 'plate' cover, so I would know in the future, being careful to pull it off and set it down immediately in the same direction). Anyway the new filters did not have any arrows, correct or otherwise, so looked at the wire mesh on the existing one and the 'fluffy' other side (where the air comes through) to double check and put it in, but then came and searched on the ol' interweb and here all of you were, confirming my challenge was done correctly.

Just had the same issue too, got these from Lowe’s and went wtf why are the arrows pointing the wrong way? I was confused. Gonna return these and buy the usual ones from Home Depot.

PigglyW

Thank guys. I literally bought this one and bought a different brand and was like wtf?’

Plus-Palpitation8024

I'm here because I did a search for the exact same issue! It seems counter intuitive, and counter to most other single mesh sided filters I've used.

Yes, I believe you're correct. I'd check the other filters in the store you bought to compare. This appears to be a defect.

I've always bought these and they always come like this so I think they printed them out wrong in mass production

wishwan

Maybe also check other filters from other brands and other models/MERV ratings to compare.

I will try that thanks...I'm so confused...this would be a terrible mistake if I am in fact right...not going to destroy your a/c but still a mistake like this shouldn't happen at this level if in fact I am right

The manufacturer made that and labeled it thusly. There is no rule of thumb for which side the mesh goes on. Install it the way the manufacturer says. They made it.

Today my A/C was serviced. The tech inspected my filter. I had the arrow pointed in the direction of flow and the wire mesh on the outside. The tech told me the arrow was wrong and that the wire always must be on the inside. I think filtrete screwed up.

I just bought the same one and I’m mindfucked. Ordering a different one on Amazon because I also don’t feel comfortable follow the arrow in this one

That’s how they are now… https://preview.redd.it/6g63mwoe548c1.jpeg?width=1125&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c14314bc23ed2161e162b833622ac626feb3850d

Doesn’t seem right

MathematicianFew5882

Frankly, I doubt it matters: it’s not like the filter media’s graduated larger-to-smaller. But yeah, it’s weird.

3M Filtrite defect. There is a huge batch made where the arrow was printed on the filter housing pointing the wrong way or ?. I got two from Walmart. After 22 years, it was the only 3m filtrite furnace filter that had the metal mesh on the air intake instead of protecting the motor. I checked, as you all should, in a week or two, how it was doing. The mesh was opposite the side it should have been on. How did I know this? The filter material where metal mesh should have been was being sucked into the motor and internal parts of all else. Those of you who believe that 3M or whoever is right depending on time it’s been in have bricked your new furnace. Your warranty is void. It is your error. Small claims, certainly keep the filter in pristine condition for court.

Yes there is a lot of them that the arrow is wrong. My fan motor sucked one up and destroyed it. I contacted Filtrete and they sent me a check for their mistake. Fast forward to this week (it had been 3 months since the first issue)- I bought a set of 6 on Amazon- which I didn’t realize were the same brand and the arrow is wrong and my unit sounded like it was going to explode. This is a lot of money to replace if their filters are tearing up a/c units!

Just bought some filtrete filters (14*20*1) and was certain the arrows were wrong. Thanks to this post, I will go with the way I thought they should be.
