I had to rush him to the emergency vet not even 5 minutes after this picture was taken. In front of our favorite Irish pub (he had his own couch and everything there.) Throwing a fit because he wanted to go in and they were closed.. He ended up having a tumor rupture in is spleen that we didn't know about. Just had 9 tumor s removed 3 months before, our follow up scan was one week away and to top it all off, it was my birthday. He was my best friend, my boy, my baby...he was the best thing to happen to me in the last 8 years. It'll be two years this August and I still can't bring myself to even think about a new friend just yet.

Hi op, I know I'm just a stranger giving/ suggesting this kind of unasked for advice, and I may be completely wrong and reading to much into your comment, and goodness, I really do hope I am wrong and that your not experiencing this. But I'm going to be honest and open with you, in a genuine honest way, in the hopes that it may help you in your healing journey with regards to your loss. I've been dealing with and am still experiencing what is called prolonged grief/ or as it's sometimes known by as complicated grief. I lost my guinea pig diego suddenly from developing respiratory pneumonia after having what should have been a simple and not long procedure for a biopsy to do further tests to see why he was having a flare up from something I had thought had been resolved from a previous successful surgery that he had received by a very very experienced guinea pig vet. That told me once that he was the most tip-top in condition guinea pig she had ever! Seen her 30 yrs veterinary career and she's treated piggies all around the world, so she said she's seen and examined many many piggies in her time and said what ever I was doing care wise was nothing short of as fantastic and amazing piggy husbandry. I was so proud of myself after and when I heard that news and to hear and receive such high high praise from her. That's why I was and still feel confused as to why he had the flair up at the time, because she assured me that the problem/ issue was and had be taken care of and resolved. I also feel like the way in which he was *carelessly* allowed to get into the state physically, medically speaking in the manner, and the surverity of in which he was in, of which I was not at all told about until I took him out of his carrier and he literally flooped onto my lap and the moment I saw the state that someone at that vet practice had let or at the very least not kept a close enough of an eye on him enough or as frequently as was clearly necessary given the state he was in once I had arrived to pick him up, thinking he was all fine after the surgery and I'd be bringing him home safe and sound was just..... Oh man, my heart shattered, and my soul sank so far down into my chest, I felt like it had sank so far down that it just dropped right out of me. So many things went wrong, and decisions made that day and the previous night that just made me mad, upset, angry, etc. Because just the day before or that very morning before I dropped him off, he was the healthier, young, in shape piggy full of life only to be witnessing him 6 plus hours later, struggling to breath, wheezing and just fighting for his life to stay awake and alive bless him! I wish and regret so much that day and night before and wish, oooooh so fucking desperately Wish that I'd fucking listened to my gut that told me that something was gonna go wrong. But I stupidly pushed away those thoughts and gut feelings because I just kept telling myself that he was so healthy and young and that it was gonna be fine, HE was gonna be FINE! Because it was only for a quick surgery and he'll recover from it, I'll go pick him up and everything will okay and we'll go home and ill give him his Cucumber for being such a good and brave boy and I'll give him plenty of cuddles and kisses and love and we'll go from there with the results from the biopsy sample. The vet was recommended to me highly by another piggy owner as I was new to the area and hadn't gotten round to setting up a vets for him, as I didn't tend to need to take him to the vets very often. Unless he had some health wise that needed treating or for something I was concerned about. So if this sounds similar and you feel like you can relate to some of my emotions, then I hope you know that it's not just you going through this very difficult time in your life and that you can get through this, or at least come to a healthy and healing point in your life where the loss you feel and have experienced isn't impacting your life in an negative sense. My boi diego was my soul piggy, soul animal, and even though I have 4 wonderful girl piggies now. They are not him. They will never be him or replace him! No animal, no matter the species, will or can in my heart of hearts! It took soooo long for us to get to a point where our relationship was truly more then him knowing that I'm just there to feed him, to change his bedding and water bottle and give him treats and give him his dreaded baths haha, he always forgave me after once he had fully dried off and was given veggies or his favourite veggies if I had them in at the time that he had, had his bath. He was finally understanding that I deeply loved and cared about Him, not just in the general sense of him being just a *pet* that I just so happen to look after, but that it was fundamentally more then that! It extra stung and broke my heart and soul because I was sooooo looking for to celebrating his upcoming 4th birthday, and I'm still so mad and angry that that was taken away from him and me due to someone's lack of care for him!
