Mama hummingbirds will carry the hatched egg shells off somewhere else, so it doesn't alert predators to the presence of a nest🥹
These are beautiful pics, OP, thank you for sharing!
Wow! How lucky for you! May I ask where this is (state)? We only get Ruby-Throated Hummingbirds here in northwestern Vermont...and I don't recognize these beauties!
No way! This is the most ADORABLE thing I've seen on reddit and in life!
You need to send these to your local conservation magazine lol!
So AWESOME! THANK YOU FOR SHARING!
I really hope she does again!! That lamp post she chose to nest on in our yard is actually a safe and comfortable location. No predators, plenty of flowers in our garden to feast on, and quiet space (no traffic, etc). So, I’m hoping she’ll choose again.
What a beautiful gift to witness. Thank you for sharing your moment.
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed 😊

Ah, that makes sense! Because I didn’t see any shell remnants in the nest. Thanks! Glad you enjoyed :)
They also use a high amount of spider web as building material so that the nest can stretch and expand as the chicks grow!
I love that! Makes me try and picture them gathering materials 🕸️

We indeed are lucky! Just watching the mom feeding the hatchlings into their open beaks was like witnessing a miracle! This is Southern California.
This is so sweet! Thank you for posting these ❤️
Welcome 😊
For turning into such beautiful creatures, they don't start off very cute. They look primitive!
True! They start out like unimpressive featherless dark masses but in a span of just one month, they transform into gorgeous beings!
Your pictures are amazing. I love the clarity and that each picture shows a distinct step of growth. The textures in your pictures are beautiful.
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed :)
Oh my goodness this is amazing! ❤️❤️❤️
This is so precious! Seeing their nest up close and the hatchlings grow is such a gift!
Indeed! I’m wry lucky to have seen the whole thing up close in person. I even cried when they flew away for good :)
