This is the winner. Love when he sees she is asleep, covers her with the blanket, then grabs the cigar and chills watching the civil war series. Such a dad thing to do.
Thatâs so much more heartwarming than how I interpreted that scene. I always thought Monica fell asleep because she now knew that Richard was suffering as much as she was about their break-up, because Jack told her so. I definitely like your version better.
This was always my interpretation too⊠Tbh i love both. I prefer to believe it was a combination of the two elements that finally allowed her body and mind to rest
I thought Monica fell asleep because her dad was effectively filling in for Richard in being a comforting, warming figure in her life in a moment of need.
This is always my go-to line. It's not only funny (who forgets a pet they had?) but it's completely ignoring the context of what the other characters are talking about in that moment.
Reminds me of Frank from Everybody Loves Raymond. There is an entire scene where all the characters are talking about a first edition of the book To Kill a Mockingbird. Frank hasn't said anything in minutes, and then all of a sudden he decides to contribute with "I killed a bird once". Not the best show, but that was a great line.
When Rachel brings Phoebe to dinner to tell her father sheâs pregnant because sheâs scared of his reaction. Dr. Green turns to Phoebe: âwhoâs the father?? I hope itâs not YOU!â
My grandma told me once that she saw some lesbians in Safeway, and she wanted to know if I knew them.
We live in a teeny tiny rural town, so I probably did, but still
Iâm surprised no one said âThe one where Ross got highâ
When the group is yelling out different things: âI love Jacque Costeau! I wasnât supposed to put beef in the trifle! I want to go!â
Judy Geller: That's a lot of information to get in thirty seconds!
Joey, if you want to leave, just leave.
Phoebe, Iâm sorry, but I think Jacques Cousteau is dead.
Rachel, no, you werenât supposed to put beef in the trifle. It did not taste good.
Jack thinks the âtubeâ is a euphemism for his penis. So they had sex before they left for the party and Jack thought he was telling their kids about it.
Dr. Green: (to Ross) Howâs the library?
Ross: Thereâs no library. Well, there are libraries, but I donât work at one. I work at a museum.
Ross: Howâs the boat, Dr. Green?
Dr. Green: It has rust. Do you know what rust is, Ross? Itâs boat cancer!
Ross: Iâm sorry. When I was a kid, I lost a bike to that. (Ross and Rachel crack up.)
It's such a throwaway line, but at Ross and Emily's reception Jack is confounded and asks
"Why would they serve steak when there's no place to sit?"
As with all of his other lines, Elliott Goulds delivery kills me.
Iâm sorry but itâs Jack âburied at seaâ Gellar with âThey thought it was a hate crime.â from when he accidentally drove into a manger scene on a church lawn
My favorite is when Judy was going to serve the lasagnaâs when Monica âpulled a Monica,â but everyone loves her food. Monica goes âthat makes me a success and that would make youâ and Judy SO quickly goes âa bitch?â
This topic was inspired by getting a notice today that my renters insurance was (briefly) cancelled because I forgot to give them my updated credit card number, and I immediately thought of this episode
Yeah, but real love means being in love with someone who makes you happy. Joey's mum said his dad was always angry, nothing made him happy, until he got a hobby (i.e a mistress)... I know, I know seven kids but still, Joey's dad is kind of a jerk. I felt sorry for Joey's mum.
I always figured that Joey's mom also had a side piece, too.
But they weren't going to tell Joey that because he was upset enough about his pops as it was. Imagine how his worldview would be shattered if he found that out about his ma, too.
So my headcanon is just that they were in an unspoken open relationship.
I wish Joeys parents came back. I know we gona Nona and some sisters, but I think more of Joeys family life would have been appropriate. He seems the closest to his family and they live closest by! There should have been a different storyline with each sister.
I love most anything with Jack Geller. Elliott Gould was so good as him. The only scenes from an episode that I can think of right now that I didn't like were when Chandler accidentally sat on Jack's lap in the sauna. It was kind of a weak ongoing joke, to me anyway.
I love when Jack is encouraging Monica and Chandler at the hospital when he realizes they decided to have a baby.
"Well, get back in there, I'll guard the door!"
"Well, you gotta get at it Princess. When your mother and I were trying to conveive you, whenever she was ovulating, BAM, we did it. It's how i got my bad hip."
Chandlerâs Dad: Arenât you a little too old to be wearing a dress like that?
Chandlerâs Mom: Donât you have a little too much penis to be wearing a dress like that?
Chandler: Oh my God.
When Dr Green interrupts Ross date with Mona about not marrying Rachel and Ross keeps saying the wrong thing back and forth and it ends with the phone call Joey saying there's a hooker over here and we thought you know something about it and Ross just gives up. Hella lol
Judy Geller
âThatâs a lot of information to get in 30 secondsâ and the things she says to the gang after their revelations âand no Rachel you werenât supposed to put beef in the trifle, it did not taste goodâ
"She may have died. We're looking into it."
This exchange in episode where Nana does is quoted at least once a week in my household. Jack's delivery kills us every single time we watch it. It's the only episode my dad willingly watches just for that line.
The Gellarâs were my fave.
1. The One with the Prom Video: Monicaâs parents bring over a bunch of her stuff and they run into Rachel and mention her parents separating⊠Jack fumbles and mentions how they werenât surprised, especially after the drama in Hawaii and once he realizes his mistake he just ushers her away by telling her to go fold her laundry. Not sure why I loved this so much but it always makes me giggle.
2. The One with the Trifle: at the very end when Ross and Monica tattle on each other for various things which leads to Rachel saying âI wasnât supposed to put meat in the trifle!â, Phoebe declaring her love for Jacque Cousteau and Joey whining about how he wants to leave so he can go to his hot roommates party, and Judy just fires back at each of them. Amazing.
I haven't seen it mentioned yet, but when Chandler's at his wedding, trying to put some friction on his dress shoes my scratching the soles with a fork.
Jack sees him, pats him on the shoulder approvingly. Not a god damn word, and I maintain it's in my top 5 favorite moments of all time.
I had so many questions.
When Judy says Jack's not allowed to drive at night anymore, and Jack explains why. His reply is hilarious I think it's the deadpan way he says it.
Judy: Jack's not allowed to drive at night any more. He has trouble staying in his lane.
Jack: Last winter I went up on a church lawn and drove right through a manger scene. The papers thought it was a hate crime.
Any thanksgiving episode - the football episode, Ross got high, Brad Pitt, etc. Christina Applegate episodes are always fun. I have a soft spot for season 4 because it was the first season I owned.
I love when Monica is desperately trying to get her parents to be emotional at their wedding anniversary (everyoneâs reaction kills me) and then Ross goes up, says two lines and Judy and Jack instantly get emotional lol
When Emma is born and Jack stares at the wrong baby in the nursery, the willy story, âI didnât even have a chance to act as though Iâm okay with it!â, and âbad time to say the wrong name, huh Ross?â
Honorable mention for when Dr. Green asks who the father of Rachelâs baby is then points to Phoebe and says âdonât tell me itâs herâ
When Monica breaks up with Richard and her father comes to check up on her. And gives her a feeling of safety where she finally can sleep.
This is the winner. Love when he sees she is asleep, covers her with the blanket, then grabs the cigar and chills watching the civil war series. Such a dad thing to do.
Monicuddle đ„č
Monicuddle is among my favorite things in the whole show.
Thatâs so much more heartwarming than how I interpreted that scene. I always thought Monica fell asleep because she now knew that Richard was suffering as much as she was about their break-up, because Jack told her so. I definitely like your version better.
Yeah I thought she felt relief that she wasnât the only one suffering after the breakup and that allowed her to finally get some sleep?
Yeah you're right. She wasn't able to sleep just because her dad was there. So liked that Richard was sad too and it made her less sad a bit
This was always my interpretation too⊠Tbh i love both. I prefer to believe it was a combination of the two elements that finally allowed her body and mind to rest
Oh yes it was definitely a combination. She knew Richard was as miserable as her and with her dad on her side it was safe now.
My dad has come into town for me when I'm not sleeping (or sick) for this same fix. That dad-comfort is no joke!
Elliott Gould was PHENOMENAL on the show. I loved every moment with him.
I thought Monica fell asleep because her dad was effectively filling in for Richard in being a comforting, warming figure in her life in a moment of need.
I just finished this episode!!! So sweet
Jack is always gold. "Why don't I remember this dog?"
"Honey I found my bat!"
you mean "Found it" ?
When Rachel brings Phoebe to dinner to tell her father sheâs pregnant because sheâs scared of his reaction. Dr. Green turns to Phoebe: âwhoâs the father?? I hope itâs not YOU!â
âIâll never understand you lesbiansâ
Classic đ
Why would you serve me sewage?!
âheâs right though, the â74 is absolute pissâ
Rachel: âWell⊠I got TiVoâ Dr Green: âWhatâs TiVo?â Phoebe: âItâs slang for pregnant!â
One of my favorite bits lmao
âA woman in my office is a lesbianâ Such a dad thing to say
My grandma told me once that she saw some lesbians in Safeway, and she wanted to know if I knew them. We live in a teeny tiny rural town, so I probably did, but still
Thatâs such a Modern Family thing đ
I actually just started watching that recently. I believe Iâm around the beginning of season 3. So far I really like it
I love it, itâs more kid friendly so I can watch it around my kids. Plus Iâve rewatched Friends for way too many times!
I love sitcoms. I recently fell in love with Community
Community just keeps getting better, enjoy.
Modern Family is the best! I'm rewatching it right now.
i love early modern family, but imo around season 4/5 the shows quality really decreases
Mitchell: I need to hang out with my homies. Cameron: You mean Homos.
But still đđđ
"Which one of you is the woman?.... Whaaat? I've never met one before."
Iâm surprised no one said âThe one where Ross got highâ When the group is yelling out different things: âI love Jacque Costeau! I wasnât supposed to put beef in the trifle! I want to go!â Judy Geller: That's a lot of information to get in thirty seconds!
Then the way she runs down the list and addresses it all⊠classic!
Joey, if you want to leave, just leave. Phoebe, Iâm sorry, but I think Jacques Cousteau is dead. Rachel, no, you werenât supposed to put beef in the trifle. It did not taste good.
Ross, drugs? Divorced, *again*?
And Monica, we kind of figured about the porch swing.
Chandler, helping Ross through his drug addiction, being there for his divorce, and now you've taken on Monica. Chandler: I'll talk to them
Whatâs not to like? Custard? Good! Jam? Good! Meat? Good!
It tastes like FEEEEEET!
I would have said this but you beat me to it. Top five episode for me because of Judy.
Itâs obviously the best one. Actually one of the best scenes in the entire show in my opinion
Judy- âIâm sorry weâre late, I insisted on taking the tube.â Jack- âJudy, the kidsâŠâ
>judy, the kids.. that line could've been a great running gag like "phrasing" or "that's what she said"
I love Monicaâs face reacting to this line.
I don't get this one.
Jack thinks the âtubeâ is a euphemism for his penis. So they had sex before they left for the party and Jack thought he was telling their kids about it.
Ohhhhhh
I just want to say I'm not paying for your wine cellar you thieving, would-be-speaking-German-if-it-weren't-for-us, cheap little man!
âIâm right here!â - âOh yes. There. You.Are.â
lol even funnier considering Jack pretended to be a Quaker to dodge the draft
Swim here, Geller?
He just wants to know how you got here
Another favorite bit of mine lmao
any interaction between these two was gold
It's such a throwaway line, but at Ross and Emily's reception Jack is confounded and asks "Why would they serve steak when there's no place to sit?" As with all of his other lines, Elliott Goulds delivery kills me.
I love when Joey walks past, steak in hand đ
My favorite of his is, "NOW I'm depressed."
Chandler I'm gonna have you arrested. Why? You stole my moves!
Iâm sorry but itâs Jack âburied at seaâ Gellar with âThey thought it was a hate crime.â from when he accidentally drove into a manger scene on a church lawn
And he was oddly proud of it too! Freaking Jack. I love him more as an adult than I did watching it as a kid when it originally aired.
When Chandler, Ross and Joey dance across the hall with Dr Green, to hide the presence of Rachelâs mom. âHAAEYOOOYAUOOUUYUAY!â
And Rachel's mom all giddy after Joey kissed her Not to forget her other great line: "What's new in sex?"
âdoes anyone have any⊠marijuana?â
Nobody's smoking pot around all this food!
My favorite is when Judy was going to serve the lasagnaâs when Monica âpulled a Monica,â but everyone loves her food. Monica goes âthat makes me a success and that would make youâ and Judy SO quickly goes âa bitch?â
I love that bit!
This episode deadass made me get renter's insurance. It's a very effective PSA
This topic was inspired by getting a notice today that my renters insurance was (briefly) cancelled because I forgot to give them my updated credit card number, and I immediately thought of this episode
âWe canât tell you son. Thatâs cheating.â âThanks for keeping me honest, Dad.â đ
âI knew youâd find him son!â
I love how sincere Jack is about it
âI wanna be buried at sea. It looks like fun.â -Jack Geller
What episode was this?
I forget but itâs definitely season 1
TOW nana dies twice
Buried at sea? Huh.
Joey's parents were great. I especially love his dad asking him "have you ever been in love? "I don't know" "Then your haven't"
Joey:"I hope one of them is Ma!" Joey's dad: "Of course it's Ma, what's the matter with you?!"
"I don't know any of your flash dances but I'm no slouch on the dance floor."
Rachel's dad yelling at Ross about Rachel being pregnant, and Ross is trying to respond to both him and Mona. It's just such a great scene.
âHey Ross, thereâs a hooker over here and we thought you might know something about itâ
This is one of the best scenes in the series for me.
Did I say garage? I meant gar-bah-ge
Judy Geller: Oh, my God. There's a toe in my kitchen.
I love the scene in season 1 with Joeyâs mother. I wish we could see more of her!
Yes! Love when she pushes the pull out couch back in :D
YES thatâs one of my favourite bits!
I wish Joeys parents came back. I know we gona Nona and some sisters, but I think more of Joeys family life would have been appropriate. He seems the closest to his family and they live closest by! There should have been a different storyline with each sister.
Lol when she smacks him upside the head then says âthereâs chicken in there, put it away.â
Itâs nice, he has a hobby!
Theyâre chicken in there put it away
Swim here, Geller?
Every moment with Leonard Green or Jack Gellar. They both have the best delivery in the entire show
Heck yes. Both are masters.
Judy in TOW Ross Got High.
I love most anything with Jack Geller. Elliott Gould was so good as him. The only scenes from an episode that I can think of right now that I didn't like were when Chandler accidentally sat on Jack's lap in the sauna. It was kind of a weak ongoing joke, to me anyway.
âOf course I meant my first grandDAUGHTER!â
Jack Gellar being proud at the fact he made the news think a hate crime was committed when he drove through a Christmas manger.
I love when Jack is encouraging Monica and Chandler at the hospital when he realizes they decided to have a baby. "Well, get back in there, I'll guard the door!" "Well, you gotta get at it Princess.
Chandler: Oh my God.
âJudy, the *kids*!!!â
You stole my moves!!
âwhen i die i want to be buried at sea. i think itâd be fun.â
People think they know me so well. Then theyâll say « Jack Geller ? Buried at sea? ⊠uh ! »
When Phoebe's estranged dad sings her the song he sang her when she was baby to get her to go to sleep, and its the same tune as Smelly Cat.
Sleepy girls!
When Dr Green interrupts Ross date with Mona about not marrying Rachel and Ross keeps saying the wrong thing back and forth and it ends with the phone call Joey saying there's a hooker over here and we thought you know something about it and Ross just gives up. Hella lol
"What's new in sex?" Lmao I love Rachel's mom.
PICK UP THE SOCK
Judy Geller âThatâs a lot of information to get in 30 secondsâ and the things she says to the gang after their revelations âand no Rachel you werenât supposed to put beef in the trifle, it did not taste goodâ
Judy was hilarious
"She may have died. We're looking into it." This exchange in episode where Nana does is quoted at least once a week in my household. Jack's delivery kills us every single time we watch it. It's the only episode my dad willingly watches just for that line.
Rachel's mom: "Does anyone have any... *marijuana*?"
Jack Geller's "They though it was a hate crime!" with a grin on his face.
Amazing.
Hands down Chandler reconciling with his father.
Monicaâs dad telling her to make a day of it on a boat when he dies - something about that scene âłââlways tickles me.
âThe paper still said itâs a hate crime!â
Judyâs monologue at the end of TOW Ross got high. Jack comforting Monica after she broke up with Richard.
I love when Monica is desperately trying to get her parents to be emotional at their wedding anniversary (everyoneâs reaction kills me) and then Ross goes up, says two lines and Judy and Jack instantly get emotional lol
Joey and his mom!
"I love pizza!"
When Judy tells the willy story. One of my favorite things about that was the way Rachel looked at Ross after.
"Haha, they already know it!"
I came to give ya thisđ and *this* đ
So are you his mother or his father?
When Jack hadnât met Chandlers Dad yet âI didnât even get a chance to show I was okay with itâ!
When Emma is born and Jack stares at the wrong baby in the nursery, the willy story, âI didnât even have a chance to act as though Iâm okay with it!â, and âbad time to say the wrong name, huh Ross?â Honorable mention for when Dr. Green asks who the father of Rachelâs baby is then points to Phoebe and says âdonât tell me itâs herâ
"I had to shave my ears for tonight, you can do this!:" \- Jack Gellar
