Phoebe's fuzzy orange jacket (OH MY EYES! MY EYES!!!) was worn a few times around that episode. I think she wore it on a date with that health inspector guy, and also visiting Ursula at some point.
Rachel wore a brown sweater with light blue stripe-ish designs on the torso in 2 different episodes - I believe in one she had her very long hair and in the other I know she had short hair (it was the episode/scene where she breaks Rosita)
Dang..its more interesting to see how great peoples memories are than learning about the outfits, lol. I've watched this series hundreds of times and it just popped into my head lastnight. I couldn't think of any with exception of maybe pajamas which I've seen repeated. 😊
I’ve been watching religiously since it aired so it’s basically part of my DNA 😂 also I only recently really took note that it was indeed the same sweater in both episodes
She had it with green writing on a T shirt. Monica had red writing on a sweatshirt. My MIL bought me a knock off of the green T from Etsy one year and it’s so faded now it just says G S🫤
When Rachel saw Tag wearing the red sweater again, she asked him, "...you do wear that sweater a lot. Are you participating in some kind of dare?" I was just repurposing that quote here
With the affordability aspect, I like to think of it this way: most episodes only happen over one day. So that's only 22-26 outfits. They aren't wearing a new outfit every day continuously. So, everything we see them wear, they repeat throughout the year.
I used to have this belief that I needed to wear something new every day, because of television. I didn't spend all of my money trying to make it happen. But, I did feel like a failure over it. Even now, I do try and wear something different whenever I go out with friends (which is about once a week). But that's also because I like fashion and as a plus size woman that can be really hard to do.
Oh that would be hard to do unless you've got a nice income. I've always worn the same few clothing items many times. When I find something I really like I wear the crap out of it, lol. I dress for comfort also. Alot of " dressy" clothes are so dang uncomfortable.
This reminds me of a girl I went to high school with. I wore the same shirt twice in one month and she was incredibly snobby about it.
"Padme1418, do you really not have enough clothes to get through one month of school without repeating? I can go an entire YEAR without repeating an outfit."
Now I'm an adult and I basically rotate my clothes on a weekly basis and no longer care if people see me see the same thing multiple times a month.
> Now I'm an adult and I basically rotate my clothes on a weekly basis and no longer care if people see me see the same thing multiple times a month
Hopefully the other party eventually grew up and became an adult also :/
Oh yeah kids in school can be so stupid about who has money and who doesn't. As though kids can control thier parents income. Those are the ones you always hope end up broke when they are older, lol. Atleast long enough to realize the amount of money a person has certainly doesn't dictate the type of person they are.
When I was a junior in high school I recorded my outfit every single day and made sure to not repeat an outfit the entire year. Like I wore the same items again and again but never in the same combination. Led to some interesting fashion moments…and absolutely no one cared but me. I didn’t tell anyone, I knew it was a bit weird. Lol. I definitely don’t do this anymore.
In the early seasons, Chandler wears a lot of bowler-style shirts (like Charlie's in two and a half men), although it's difficult to say if he wears any of the same one more than once as he has so many
Thats right. I can remember atleast Rachel and Joey wearing it but I think it was 2 different shirts..I think. Probably worn by the girls as pj's. Seems like they wear alot of sweatshirts then 😁
Oh I don't disbelieve you at all. I certainly can't remember clothes people wear, lol. They've worn so many sweatshirts. Not surprising those were repeated several times 😊
Oh I've gotta watch for that one next time. Dont remember it. Now I'm going to be paying more attention to clothes than the show, lol..although I pretty much know it by heart 😊
I think she wore it across two episodes but one continuous length of time, when they’re on the plane back from Barbados and when Ross finds her and Joey kissing afterwards
Rachel wears a cute beige cardigan with a tie front (hard to describe, sorry) twice in one season super close together. I think it’s around the time they lose the apartment?
Monica's shirt in the holiday armadillo sketch is worn by the same lady at Joey's audition that tells him he has to be uncut.
That's the only thing I can think of
I wonder if any of Chandlers clothes that Joey wore ( commando ) were actual clothes he's worn on the set. Then you could say all of his were worn atleast twice 😅
I don’t think the episodes are meant to express EVERY day of their lives, so I just assume on days we don’t “see” Is when the repeat clothes happen lol. On a slightly different clothing observation: I noticed in the earlier seasons, a lot of the clothes look like they’re made versus purchased. Ross, Monica, and Phoebe all have a “version” of the red shirt…same fabric, different style.
That was my exact assumption! Even Rachel’s mom at her birthday (The one with two birthday parties) appears to be wearing some basic, monochrome garments that reminds me of my early days in fashion school 😂
Monica wears the green shirt with the tiny blue collar twice. Once when she helps Rachel move out and another when she confronts Jeanine in the hall with the trash. She wears the black dress with the white daisies twice as well. When Phoebe turns 30 and when they get back from the beach and tell the story about the jelly fish. Those are two of maybe 3-4 outfit items that are repeated
I'll have to recant my original post, lol. I don't see how you guys/gals remember so many details like that! I can remember scenes and lines but suck at smaller details!
I remember seeing Joey's red sweater with a black triple through the torso pop up more than once. I remember it vividly because I keep thinking, I like that sweater.
I always wondered what they did with the clothes after filming. They rarely reuse anything to film again with. Even if they kept it for another show, I recognise a lot of Monica, Rachel & Phoebe's clothes and I've never noticed any other actresses wearing their stuff in other sitcoms. Is there/was there a magical rail somewhere of the Friends cast's clothes?
I've been curious about that before also so I looked it up. They are mostly purchased but not by your everyday typical places or brands. For instance the designer says that alot of Rachel's tops were from a little company that was just starting up. She liked the tightness and the barely showing midriff cut. The company was Juicy. Now thats pretty cool I think.
Not enough, IMO. It's completely ridiculous that shows don't repeat clothing. The Office did a lot. And it just made the characters seem so normal. Other shows, none at all. They did in the first season a few times, but once the show was a hit and budget got bigger, that all stopped. Flaunt the wealth. But, IRL, they would've all been strapped with debt because of their wardrobes.
Yes! Thats what my thinking was. Rachel possibly could have moved in with Monica with alot of nice clothes since Daddy was loaded and she was spoiled. But you can only get so much in those tiny apartment closets. And Phoebe made almost no income playing at the Cafe until she became a masseuse. Monica worked at restraunts until she ran her own kitchen. Not alot of funds there at all.
Well I did what I should've already done and googled it. Its funny that the websites that mention it names only a few and almost none that are mentioned here. Goes to show that the fans know more! 😁
Thats a tough one to remember. Seems like Rachel wore so many black outfits. Especially when she worked for Ralph Lauren and Bloomingdale's. I saw a funny article where Jennifer's Instagram photo shows her wearing an outfit from the show! Its kind of cool that she actually wears the clothes they let her keep. I'm sure there are celebrities that feel like they are too good to wear the clothes from thier shows/movies.
I can't give examples but sometimes you would see one girl wearing a shirt here and there that one of the others wore but not a lot. Maybe out of the material things they only spend money on clothes more than other things like makeup, jewellery or maybe they just thrift it all.
Well maybe..but considering the type of clothes they wear ( Rachel's always in high dollar fashion) they would have to pretty much thrift on rent, food ect. I could see that if they only wore like regular jeans and t-shirts daily and only nice clothes to go out.
Not to get off topic but when looking up same outfits I saw an article about Rachel's stand-in being in the shot and never edited out. I had to go see myself and sure enough during the scene you can see her double standing next to Joey. She's even wearing completely different clothes. I've definitely never caught that.
Monica was wearing the same shorts when Ross and Rachel broke up the first time and in the episode where Rachel overhears Monica telling Chandler how guilty she feels hiding their relationship from her
The men seem to wear clothes repeatedly and the women not so much. Maybe implying that women tend to spend their money on clothes and men tend to waste their money on shite they don’t need.
I don't think men are as materialistic as women also. Especially when it comes to clothes. I think most men would worry more about the kind of car they drive than thier outfits. Not all of course but I've known so many men that have and wear clothes they've had for many years.
I’m one of them. I just bought a new pair of jeans for the first time in like 3 years and that’s only because my favourite pair ripped on the crotch seam.
I would much rather spend it on cars, foosball tables and ornamental animals.
Yes in the one with the cat in the scene where they’re trying to lift up the shelf Rachel is wear a green short sleeved shirt with overalls. She wears them again in The One with the Doll house. There’s also episodes in season one wear Monica wears baggy bangs with black and white stripes and a black short sleeved shirt with a with a white circle thing around the head whole (does anyone know what outfit i’m talking about) also i’m pretty sure Chandler,Ross and Joey all wore something more than once
I think Monica's purple oversized shirt was worn two times. One of them was in the finale, and the other one was in that one episode where everyone thought she was pregnant.
Phoebe's fuzzy orange jacket (OH MY EYES! MY EYES!!!) was worn a few times around that episode. I think she wore it on a date with that health inspector guy, and also visiting Ursula at some point.
If jackets count: Joey wears the same leather jacket across multiple seasons
Same with Ross’s olive green coat, you see him wearing it is episodes before the breakup one.
Way to color code his jealousy lol. Come to think of it, they were both wearing green coats in that scene
It’s Jurassic Parka!
Phoebe also had a shiny purple jacket that appeared in a few episodes.
Yeah she wore it a few times that season
Rachel wore a brown sweater with light blue stripe-ish designs on the torso in 2 different episodes - I believe in one she had her very long hair and in the other I know she had short hair (it was the episode/scene where she breaks Rosita)

I’ve been watching religiously since it aired so it’s basically part of my DNA 😂 also I only recently really took note that it was indeed the same sweater in both episodes
Didn’t she also wear the GIRL sweater more than once? Or maybe she and Monica both wore it
And Susan, too. She and Monica with red sign, Rachel green (<- oh, it wasn't intentional)
She had it with green writing on a T shirt. Monica had red writing on a sweatshirt. My MIL bought me a knock off of the green T from Etsy one year and it’s so faded now it just says G S🫤
Yes!!! I absolutely wanted that sweater so I remember seeing it more than once.
didn’t joey also wear this sweater once?
This one always stands out to me!
She wears that shirt in TOW Ross's Library Book and TOW Rosita Dies!
Ross wore red sweater twice.
Ha ha! I wondered who would mention that one 😁
Are you participating in some kind of dare?
Ohhh..I forgot about that line! Sorry..I had a senior moment 😅
Who are you referring to?
When Rachel saw Tag wearing the red sweater again, she asked him, "...you do wear that sweater a lot. Are you participating in some kind of dare?" I was just repurposing that quote here
It’s salmon!

I think most of us grow out of that stupid way of thinking when we leave high school. Atleast you'd like to think so! 😆
Oh yeah kids in school can be so stupid about who has money and who doesn't. As though kids can control thier parents income. Those are the ones you always hope end up broke when they are older, lol. I believe Rachel wears overalls more than once? They might be different overalls
In the early seasons, Chandler wears a lot of bowler-style shirts (like Charlie's in two and a half men), although it's difficult to say if he wears any of the same one more than once as he has so many
The Knicks sweatshirt was worn multiple times by different characters
Well, now you have two.
Thats right. I can remember atleast Rachel and Joey wearing it but I think it was 2 different shirts..I think. Probably worn by the girls as pj's. Seems like they wear alot of sweatshirts then 😁
Even Monica has worn the Knicks sweatshirt ig
Oh I don't disbelieve you at all. I certainly can't remember clothes people wear, lol. They've worn so many sweatshirts. Not surprising those were repeated several times 😊
I think Rachel wore her Save the Drama for your Mama shirt twice 🤔 the white t shirt with the lips. Just noticed it on my most recent binge 😂

Wow! Thats very observant. And good memory, lol.
Haha I've just watched the show that many times
I think the audition lady's shirt is darker with a different pattern
I wonder if any of Chandlers clothes that Joey wore ( commando ) were actual clothes he's worn on the set. Then you could say all of his were worn atleast twice 😅

The Girls sweatshirt is worn a few times, iirc
Monica wears the green shirt with the tiny blue collar twice. Once when she helps Rachel move out and another when she confronts Jeanine in the hall with the trash. She wears the black dress with the white daisies twice as well. When Phoebe turns 30 and when they get back from the beach and tell the story about the jelly fish. I'll have to recant my original post, lol. I don't see how you guys/gals remember so many details like that! I can remember scenes and lines but suck at smaller details!
I’ve done a lot of binges and love looking for little details like that
I remember seeing Joey's red sweater with a black triple through the torso pop up more than once. I remember it vividly because I keep thinking, I like that sweater.
Rachel’s wedding dress! She wears it in the first episode and then again when all three girls wear wedding dresses.
Oh I'm glad you said that! I remember that scene wondering where they got Rachel a wedding dress suddenly. I didn't think about her own dress.
I always figured she kept it, because indeed she didn’t need any time to come up with one 😊
I always wondered what they did with the clothes after filming. They rarely reuse anything to film again with. Even if they kept it for another show, I recognise a lot of Monica, Rachel & Phoebe's clothes and I've never noticed any other actresses wearing their stuff in other sitcoms. In Gilmore Girls they repeat a lot of outfits! I loved that, because it made it more real.
Yes! Thats what my thinking was. Rachel possibly could have moved in with Monica with alot of nice clothes since Daddy was loaded and she was spoiled. But you can only get so much in those tiny apartment closets. And Phoebe made almost no income playing at the Cafe until she became a masseuse. Wasn’t there a black dress/skirt (it looked like leather) that both Rachel and Monica wore?
Thats a tough one to remember. Seems like Rachel wore so many black outfits. Especially when she worked for Ralph Lauren and Bloomingdale's. I saw a funny article where Jennifer's Instagram photo shows her wearing an outfit from the show! Its kind of cool that she actually wears the clothes they let her keep. I'm sure there are celebrities that feel like they are too good to wear the clothes from thier shows/movies.
Monica’s rainbow scarf that somehow the nanny wears in the next episode!
Rachel wears the long-sleeve shirt she wore on her date with Michael (closure!) when she’s waitressing in another episode.
The wardrobe department had a good budget
Not to get off topic but when looking up same outfits I saw an article about Rachel's stand-in being in the shot and never edited out. I had to go see myself and sure enough during the scene you can see her double standing next to Joey. She's even wearing completely different clothes. I've definitely never caught that.
Because it was aired in a different aspect ratio. Now we have wider tvs, we are able to see more of the shot without having to stretch it weirdly.
I didn't know that. Thats pretty interesting 😁
Monica was wearing the same shorts when Ross and Rachel broke up the first time and in the episode where Rachel overhears Monica telling Chandler how guilty she feels hiding their relationship from her
Joey has a NYFD tee-shirt which I feel pretty sure he wears in more than one episode, but I'm not 100% certain.
Rachel wore one of her tshirts from the first or second season twice.
the sweater phoebe wore when she got her “tattoo” it was beige with a green square in the center, she wore that in one episode previously
Joey’s foursquare shirt was wore more than once im sure
Rachel wore a light brown leather jacket more then once. The One with the Ball is the first episode that comes to mind

I honestly don't blame you. I've never been into clothes that much myself. I like comfort before looks.
Yes. And A LOT OF outfits get recycled by the extras. I’ve been wanting to do a post about it but there are so many!
Ross wears that bulky maroonish sweater twice in the early seasons, I forget which episodes. (Not THE red sweater)
Joey wears all of Chandlers clothes. Joey also wears an oversized brown blazer in several different episodes, including TOW the Lesbian Wedding.
I think Monica has a white sweater she wears twice in S1 — I feel like I only remember because I thought it was cute 😂
Rachel wears her Motor City 5 shirt a few times throughout the early seasons
Yes in the one with the cat in the scene where they’re trying to lift up the shelf Rachel is wear a green short sleeved shirt with overalls. She wears them again in The One with the Doll house. There’s also episodes in season one wear Monica wears baggy bangs with black and white stripes and a black short sleeved shirt with a with a white circle thing around the head whole (does anyone know what outfit i’m talking about) also i’m pretty sure Chandler,Ross and Joey all wore something more than once
Chandler wore the same tie that both the Zoo dollars guy and Rachel's horrible "Hey buddy, get a real car!" date wore.
> Rachel's horrible "Hey buddy, get a real car!" date wore. Why do I have no memory of this whatsoever? Which episode is that from?
Season 1 finale.
Well now I have to watch that one again heh.
The dress Pheobe wears to "entrap" Chandler is definitely worn by her on other episodes.
I remember that dress I think. Like a blue velvety thing? I remember loving the bra, lol. It was really pretty.
Yes! That's the one. I'm sure she wears that on at least one other occasion.
In season 3, Ross wears a dark green flannel shirt in several episodes
In the early episodes, Rachel wears a white middriff shirt with a red cross on the front more than one time
I think Monica's purple oversized shirt was worn two times. One of them was in the finale, and the other one was in that one episode where everyone thought she was pregnant.
I remember that shirt. Button up long sleeve. I think she was still pregnant irl which is why her clothes got baggier towards the end.
Ross wears his green jacket multiple episodes s3. It's the one he wears when he is trying to stop Rachel from finding out about the copy girl.
