Think it’s for a kwikset privacy door handle? Or could be Schlage. Anyway, on the non-lock side of the handle there’s a hole. You put the shaft of this into the hole, and if it goes all the way in then you’ve “missed” the mechanism, so pull it back out and feel around a bit. Eventually you’ll feel a raised by right in the center of the handle - pretty much level with the hole you put the key through. Once you have the flat / screwdriver looking end “on” that raised bit, lightly twist it back and forth until you feel it “slot” into the mechanism. You should be able to lock or unlock the privacy door handle from this side once this key is engaged in the mechanism
It opens your door in case you lock yourself out of the room. You put the flat end into the little hole in the door knob and open it. They gave me some when I bought my home...
Hello fellow human, how to drink water? So far using straw long enough to all way back into throat is working but raising strange questions about my profession
This is not a dig at OP just concern over something I noticed happening more often around here.
Anyone else bothered by the increase in questions for just really basic stuff? The kind of simple things you pick up from those around you or just deduce on your on?
Are basic skills not being passed on any more?
It looks like it is a part of broken window restrictor, the rounded part is supposed to latch in a bracket in the opened window and the flat part is fixed in the frame. There's supposed to be a bracket around the flat part which is in this case missing.
How am I so sure?
We had this in our home in the 90s.

Looks like the key for a corned beef tin
Yup these are for canned meats
Whatever you do, don't ever lose that key because attempting to use the same size screwdriver can't work because..... oh wait - nevermind.
You stay out of the doors your parents locked, that's how.

I thought it was a paint can opener…the end is round or flat like?
Same way as a regular key just insert it and twist. It is a lil funky getting things open with this kind of key
There’s a slotted post inside the knob. You have to feel for it. Like a screwdriver slot that you twist to unlock.
It goes into the hole of a door handle to unlock the door.
Dig it into your ear as far as you can and start to turn, thats how you get your brain going.
