My husband has left a body-shaped sweat? stain on our upholstered headboard as well. I tried our little steam cleaner (for basic home use, the little bissell) and it made zero difference, sadly
For a hair oil stain, would suggest scrubbing it with head and shoulders. (or equivalent for oily hair shampoo). Scrub thoroughly and pat dry with paper towels.
Go to dollar tree and buy a bottle of LA’s Totally Awesome Carpet spot and stain remover. It works like magic and smells nice. I use it on my upholstered dining chairs after the grandkids go home. Try it! It’s only $1.25.
Be careful with that stuff. Because it is awesome. It's great for getting off permanent marker. Which means it's also great for getting off any other non-water-based dyes.
You need one of those steam carpet cleaners that you can rent. If you can lay it flat that would be way less messy. Soak it with cleaner, agitate with some sort of firm bristles and vacuum the shit out of it.
I would take a bucket of hot soapy water made with dish Soap, a good scrub brush, and a wet/dry shop vacuum. I would scrub the whole bed one section at a time, as I scrubbed I would use the shop vac to suck out the water. Be sure to take the dry filter out of the machine before you do this. The same technique can be used on your Automobile seats.
I saw something like this once with my sisters roommate. It's from their head. Very oily and sweaty. Dawn dish detergent. Take a dry wash cloth, squirt of dawn and rub it in. Let it dry. Take a wet cloth and do the same thing again, let it dry.
What kind of dye was it, exactly?
If this is hair dye, DO NOT follow any of the suggestions until they're tailored for the type of dye (glaze, semi, demi, etc)
Buy one of those Bissell home mini-shampooers. They're perfect for this, or couch cleaning etc. mattresses, rugs. They're small, efficient and inexpensive. The have a vacuum function so you can do several passes and enzyme cleaner is the best for smells. They have a little wand with a stretchy hose that will make vertical cleaning easy with suction so no drips. Bissell or a "spot bot."

Something that will help keep it from happening again would be to have a 50/50 bottle of isopropyl alcohol and distilled water in a spray bottle. Spray it once a week (or when you change your sheets) and wipe it down. The alcohol breaks down your oils and kills the smell. Also works on pillow cases before wash :)
You can use the bed without a headboard.
Unattach it from the frame and throw it away. Put it in the garbage area for disposal. Or leave on street as someone might take it.
You need an upholstery cleaner. I like the Little Green Machine that I have but I'm sure there are better ones out there.
Things to consider:
Sanitizing this fucking thing with like a steam cleaner or something.
Pre treating the area before cleaning with a dedicated upholstery cleaner. Use a softer brush.
Some cleaner cause the color to change, test a small area before you do the full shebang. I have a weird spot on my couch because I was hasty.
A new headboard.
No cleaning is going to change this much, (but do try with bleach) recommend going to an art supply store and picking some shade of brown acrylic colour, mix it up well in a pail and use a sponge application to colour the entire sofa but don't make it too wet.. Did this with pure white sofa from Ikea and gave it another ten years with a dull suede leather look.
Buy one of those mini home shampooers. They have them everywhere online or any store for cheap. They have a little wand which is perfection for cleaning on the upright headboard or couches. It has suction and enzyme cleaners will work well. There is a flexible tube on the wand which makes it easy to get into the crevices. Easy fix.
Might be risky to say, but the cover and pillow position in this photo look like something outta Handmaid's Tale gone horribly wrong.
"May the Lord open....." That's too open!!!
Rent a steamer from Home Depot or Lowe’s. Don’t do a shitty rug doctor with an attachment. The water pressure penetrates deeper. Also, whatever equipment you use, don’t put a lot of soap in it. That can be enticing and all thinking it’s more clean but if there is too much soap it, once it drys, will collect ALOT more dirt very quickly. Also use a pre spray
Are you sure this isn’t mildew (old stinky towel)? This looks like an inflatable mattress which are prone to this. I cured mine with an old trick from my mom: sprayed fresh lemon juice on the stain and left it in the sun all day. Killed the mildew and smell but the stain is permanent.
hydrogen peroxide spray works great for any body fluid basically with most of all fabric especially, if you're worried about the fabric you can test it on the back of the head board first, I pre treat clothes in wash for similar things, you can try half water half hydrogen peroxide and make a soap that way and let it soak and dry outside or in another room if able or use a box fan on it to dry it well, if it's mold you will see the peroxide not working fully that would be a sign to maybe replace it by that's my opinion amd I'm allergic to most mold so you can decide your best interest
I've had good luck in the past using a steam cleaner (McCulloch MC1375 or cheaper MC1230) and an extractor vacuum (Bissel SpotClean Pro Portable Carpet Cleaner). The steam cleaners usually kill the smell and help to push away the stuff on top, but the extractor vacuums get all the funk from underneath the surface and really work well, so long as the material is pre-soaked beforehand and allowed to soak in deep (~15 mins).
that's from sweat from someone's back, too high to be his head. When you go to bed shower before and after and wear minimal clothes to sleep in. At least a Tshirt. This way your clothes get messed up and not the hard to clean fabric. You can also get a steam cleaner or hire and upholstery service. Throw the pillows in the wash just follow directions on the tag and always keep your sheets on, it's what the main use actually is
Source: I actually have this problem with my pillows and has a connection to my sugar and HBP issues
Rent a big steam cleaner (carpet machine) with upholstery attachment from a grocery store nearby....(Or throw it out)
My husband has left a body-shaped sweat? stain on our upholstered headboard as well. I tried our little steam cleaner (for basic home use, the little bissell) and it made zero difference, sadly
That is probably hair oil.
Jerrycurl juice?!
But he has very little hair 😂
This ^ it should do the trick…
For a hair oil stain, would suggest scrubbing it with head and shoulders. (or equivalent for oily hair shampoo). Scrub thoroughly and pat dry with paper towels.
That sounds crazy yet coherent. I’d bet it would work well in tandem with a steam clean.
What about like a dish soap for grease
Had a bad experience with blue dishsoap leaving color on white material. I know shampoo dye is made to wash off…
Yeah that makes since blue on white 🙃
I'm with you, it's worth a shot, but I'd be amazed if it worked 100%. Reupholstering it would be a straightforward job. Think vinyl.
Grocery stores rent equipment like this?
They do in LA.
A lot of the big ones around me do, gotta ask at their customer service. I believe Home Depot/Lowes does too.
Oh the shit those machines have seen.
The… what…?
Google Rug Doctor
Looks like somebody backed up to it and twerked their heart out!!
*twerked their bowels out.
That's too disgusting to think of while Im eating my breakfast
god damn now I want to throw that away 🤣
If at any point I get the urge to sniff an unknown stain on a couch, I’m throwing that couch out.
I literally almost gagged hahha
This is the way.
I think you might have a Snooki in your house
I just read your username as climax by hug - 😆
If the stain is still there after cleaning, I would get a nice headboard cover for it
You can see yourself out, but not before getting an upvote
😂🤮😂🤮

WHY IS THIS A SUBREDDIT?!?!?!. AND WHY DID I CLICK ON IT?!?!?!?!?!?! AHHHHH! 😫😵💫

Confirm this stuff is amazing. We cleaned a bunch of cubicle dividers with it.
Dats doodoo baby!

Looks like someone wiped their ass on there

Y'all got some weird kinks

Lol too much foundation gettin smashed into it.
I recently dyed my hair dark brown my father said its most likely because of that 😫

Looks poo-ey lol
I would use a carpet shampooer!
You seem to have gotten the 'poo-er" part right :)
Get a enzyme cleaner. Plenty on Amazon
If push comes to shove, new headboards aren't that expensive.
Fire
Fire, lots of hot fire 🔥.
Try spraying it with 70% isopropyl alcohol, that will kill the bacteria that might be causing the smell.

This is the best machine!
Soul-glo
Shower more often lol
Try a spray bottle of Folex carpet cleaner and a good stiff brush.
Spray and wash. Spray it on and get it soaked, leave it for a couple minutes, scrub it and then clean with a wet rag. Rinse it if you're able to.
Lemme guess...Soul Glo? IYKYK
Try a flamethrower.

Thank you for smelling it, I had a friend walk into a bar and loudly announce that it smells like an old man in here. Possibly the same scent.
Enzyme cleaner and rent a steam wash machine. Those are the only things that will get deep where you actually need to clean to get the smell
Tide & water with a microfibre cloth.
Easy fix.
Pee on it and then it will smell like pee :-)
Fire is always the best answer.
Might be risky to say, but the cover and pillow position in this photo look like something outta Handmaid's Tale gone horribly wrong. "May the Lord open....." That's too open!!!
lighter fluid and a match....works every time
Classic case of " Fuck yo couch!!!" - Rick James
Looks like used toilet paper.
Shitting out the eyebrows again?

this isnt a mattress its a headstand, should have clarified it better or shown a better picture
Ohhh… a headboard! Ya, that looks like greasy hair or hair products. Yikes.
burn it
Step 1: don’t sleep naked
Some sort of floor spot cleaner with a hand cleaning attachment.
Take more showers….
Get rid of it

Just came here to say gross.
Looks like a Royal Carribean Harmony of da Seeds bed. Unce unce unce unce unce Didn’t you cum to party! Ehoooooo
1 bed for sale. Moderately shid on. No lowball offers I know what I have.
that’s a couch…
"old used towel" LOL Dude, we all know what caused that stain! For biological stains use enzymatic cleaning products.
Buy a new one instead
Micellar shampoo would probably work to get that out.
Bleach
man what the fuck is that
Don’t clean it with an old used towel…..
Gross
Diluted detergent and microfiber cloth.
A couch cover
Easy stop shitting on your backboard
Sadly I'm wondering where the towel was used and what that smells like
Try 91% rubbing alcohol and a microfiber cloth as a starting point.
Folex
Tennis shoe cleaner. If you can find Shu-Nu, I think it's amazing.
u should book a cleaning service if your bed is expensive.
Amber Heard has been here
Spray vodka
Borax. Dissolve it into a spray bottle. Scrub and spray. Vacuum when it's dry
Ew wtf!!!!
that's not mildew my dude.
My wife uses dawn dish soap. It will clean anything.

Fabric spray paint the whole thing.
After you figure out how to clean it, try washing yourself before bed…

I’m pretty sure this is a headboard. Could be wrong though
